Celebration of Venerable Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher in Hilandar admin 06 March 2013 March 5, 2013 At Hilandar the feast day of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher was solemnly celebrated at Hilandar coincides with marking the nine centuries of his birth. Along with the feast of The Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple, Saint Sava and icon of the Three-Handed Theotokos, the feast of Saint Simeon is the part of four slavas (Patron Saint-days) which the Hilandar brotherhood celebrates. In the period that followed the 2004 fire, the monastery could not celebrate more solemnly this feast and receive a large number of guests. A great joy for the Hilandar family represented the arrival of His Grace Bishop Varnava of Viksin and Pavlov from Russia. Despite the bad weather, a lot of guests and pilgrims gathered. Bishop Varnava celebrated the Divine Liturgy with the concelebration of Archimandrite Metodije, Abbot of the Hilandar monastery; hieromonks and hierodeacons from other monasteries on Mount Athos, as well as priests from Russia and Serbia. Church Holy Days ] Archimdrite Kirill (Pavlov) This parable teaches us that, accepting faith, we must accompany it with good deeds, which can and must support our spiritual life. The foolish virgins, going out to meet the Bridegroom, did not prepare the oil of good deeds for their lamps. The wise stored up good deeds along with their lamps in order to meet the Bridegroom worthily. So too our life must be a preparation for meeting the Lord, and for the rest of our lives we must constantly work towards the acquisition and preservation of living faith and burning love of God, the Source of life, and love of one’s neighbors.

Cross set up in Belgrade to commemorate defenders of the city during the First World War Source: Interfax-religion Natalya Mihailova 19 September 2014 Belgrade, September 19, Interfax - A commemorative sign honoring the soldiers who fought in the First World War, defending the Kalemegdan fortress in Belgrade, was inaugurated by Serbian President Tomislav Nicolic and Russian Railways (RZhD) chief Vladimir Yakunin. The monument was set up at the fortress Kalemegdan where the river Sava merges the Dunay river. It was blessed by Patriarch Irinej of the Serbian Orthodox Church, bishop Nazary of Kronshtadt who is the locum tenens of the St. Alexander Nevsky’s Laura of the Holy Trinity, and a Russian Orthodox Church representative in Belgrade Archpriest Vasily Tarasyev. The commemorative sign in the form of a cross featuring the image of St. George the Victor is the collective work made by a group of St. Petersburg-based artists led by painter Albert Charkin and architect Yury Pavlov for the Center of National Glory. Making history a myth and “darkening” heroic deeds of the war are unacceptable, Yakunin said during the conference Great War and the Start of New World: Urgent Agenda for Humanity organized by the Center of National Glory and St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation as he is a chairman of its tutorial board. “Serbia, where the conference is held, survived many troubles, suffered many victims, and now urges offsprings: “It shouldn’t repeat!” Yakunin stressed. Answering the questions of journalists, he said resuming the results of two-day conference that “there is an evident connection with events of the past, which is the First World War and the Second World War.” According to him, wars are the result of a deliberate action by “the global political elite,” Yakunin said. “Historical parallels between today’s situation and that of 100 years ago are obvious,” the RZhD chief said. We hear the words of the Lord Jesus Christ addressed to each of us, thus becoming witnesses to the last days and hours of His life on earth”. Taking the faithful through the whole history of the Passions of Christ, hour after hour, minute after minute, “Passion week will lead us to the feast of the Radiant Resurrection of Christ and we will carry away from this bright feast the paschal joy and our experience of standing before the Cross of Christ. Let us try to bear it through our further life so that it may be filled with the feeling of standing before Christ Who is not far away but here, next to us, and that the joy of the Resurrection of Christ may always light up our life journey leading us to the Heavenly Kingdom”.
