It is because, in reality, most people do not glorify God – either in their deeds or through their words.  Many of them doubt the very existence of God and God’s presence in their lives.  There are also many people that attribute responsibility to God for the misfortunate occurrences in their lives.  However, those who grumble against God err profoundly, since evil does not derive from Him.  On the contrary, the loving incarnation of the divine Son and Word, together with the consequent events of His Crucifixion and Resurrection, reshape the human person to its former beauty, granting eternal life and the peace that surpasses all understanding, while rendering human beings co-heirs of the heavenly kingdom.  This act of divine condescension, though embracing the ultimate humiliation, is in itself capable of glorifying humanity.  Thus, even if many people fail to glorify God in their hearts, nevertheless glory is rendered – by all creation and all things that take place among humans – unto Him who dwells in the highest.  We too, then, gratefully cry out with the Angels, “Glory to God in the highest,” for the immensity of His works and the incomprehensibility of His love for us.

Archive Metropolitan Joanikije II of Montenegro and the Littoral: expulsion of monks from the Kiev Pechersk Lavra is a violation of all international norms 30 March 2023 year 20:27 On the 27th of March 2023, Metropolitan Joanikije II of Montenegro and the Littoral said that the expulsion of monks from the Kiev Lavra of the Caves is a violation of all international norms. This was reported by the DECR website of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Metropolitan Joanikije sent a letter to the chancellor of the UOC Metropolitan Anthony of Borispol and Brovary, in which he expressed support for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The head of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral said he grieved over recent events in Ukraine. " The intentions to evict the brethren from Kiev Pechersk Lavra, as well as from other shrines of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, about which we hear these days, seem simply incredible and so absurd that it is difficult to believe that this can be talked about at all, " wrote Metropolitan Joanikije. Vladyka also noted that " the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, with its shrines, is the best symbol of solidarity and consent of the Church, society and people, rather than a stone of stumbling and disagreement. " " We see that you personally, as well as the entire Ukrainian Orthodox Church, do everything to ensure that this is the case, helping in word, deed, prayer. But, unfortunately, the other side, the authorities, acts exactly the opposite, trying to eclipse, with various false accusations, all the good that the Church brings to its flock " the hierarch noted. According to him, " this false propaganda is not having the desired effect, which is confirmed by the thousands of believers who gather these days and pray for the preservation of the holy places. " Metropolitan Joanikije outlined the attitude of the international community toward these events. " This is, in fact, a gross violation of international acts and norms on freedom of conscience and religion. It seems incredible to people living in the twenty-first century that someone is going to evict hundreds of monks from the monastery to the street, " stressed the hierarch. Metropolitan Joanikije  also wrote that Montenegrin clergy and believers " are praying and worrying for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and its Primate, Blessed Metropolitan Onuphry, a hierarch who has gained great spiritual authority throughout the Christian world. " " In these days, the faithful of Montenegro are going to pray that the Lord would change the hearts of who are hostile against His Holy Church, call them to the path of salvation, and preserve the dear Ukrainian Church from all evil, " concluded the head of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The works of Isidore of Seville reveal several levels of knowledge. The first and the highest is wisdom (sapientia), which according to Isidore, is knowledge of divine things. This wisdom will most definitely lead the initiate to salvation and the Kingdom of Heaven. But the specific quality of wisdom is interpreted by Isidore in different ways according to his various works. In those works which possess an encyclopedic character («Etymologies» and the fi rst book of «Differences»), wisdom involves an understanding of how the world and the whole of the cosmos are organised. A wise man is able to comprehend the causes of both the visible and the heavenly world. On the contrary, a person’s rationality (prudentia) is oriented towards worldly and secular things. It aims at distinguishing between good and evil and how best to arrange one’s own life and final destiny. Rationality is connected with knowledge (scientia), which is bookish learning, and which Isidore treats as a part of philosophy. At the same time, rationality and knowledge act as instruments for the gaining of wisdom (sapientia). Thus wisdom is linked also with the art of speaking well (eloquentia). In his works meant for a clerical readership, particularly the second book of the «Differences» and the «Sentences», wisdom is opposed to vain mundane knowledge. In these works Isidore affirms that mere eloquence is alien to wisdom and that true wisdom is to be cherished precisely because of its lack of pretention. In the context of these works, wisdom is geared only to the living of a devout life and towards the final aim of the salvation of one’s soul. The differences in the interpretation of the word sapientia can be easily explained by the differences in literary genre among the various works as well as by the readers for whom the various works were intended by the author. Keywords: Isidore of Seville, «Etymologies», «Differences», «Sentences», wisdom, knowledge, eloquence, sapientia, prudentia, eloquentia. Список литературы

If we come out of judgments of ancient thinkers about democracy, then hardly will anyone have a wish to move towards democratic form of government. Aristotle, who called a human “a political creature” predicted long life to democracy: “Evil passion of cupidity of rulers which constantly made them lessen their own number involved strengthening of population so that it descended upon them and established democracy. And since the states increased in territory it now seems unlikely that another form of government but democracy could appear.” (Aristotle. Works, M., 1984. V.4 P. 479). And it turned out that Aristotle was right: since that time (since IV BC, in Hellenistic epoch) democracy became neither stronger nor weaker, but from then it has never disappeared from the horizon of political life of peoples. If we want to create a normal democratic form of government in our country, the government itself should learn true democracy, and then teach it to the people, regenerate democratic ideals as possible, purify morals, and gradually attract citizens to governing matters. All government officials today need to discern good from evil, enlightenment from superstition, culture from platitude, freedom from slavery, virtue from amorality and cynicism, patriotism from chauvinism and racism, holiness from sin, greatness from moral turpetude and nonentity, nobility from gross-out and insolence, spirituality from obscurantism and ignorance. And the main thing, finally, is to start loving people. And we ourselves would speak with more reason if we did not despise our own people – the base of a democratic state. One wants to believe that the upcoming democratic reforms and transitions in Russia will be accompanied by relevant legislative, moral and cultural transformations. Otherwise these reforms will either be ineffective or appear effective but will soon be ruined the same way as Russia itself as a democratic state. Vadim Venediktov 21 октября 2004 г. ... Michael Prokurat, Alexander Golitzin, Michael D. Peterson Скачать epub pdf COSMOLOGY COSMOLOGY. Literally, this word means the study or rationale of the universe and, in Christian thought, the theology or meaning of the universe as created by God (q.v.). The distinctions implied in the halves of the preceding sentence provide the key to much debate in the early Church. Neoplatonism, the dominant philosophy of the era of the Church Fathers (qq.v.), did see the universe as a kind of theophany (q.v.), but a theophany tied to divinity by impersonal chains of causal necessity. Gnosticism (q.v.), on the other hand, argued that the physical world was entirely unrelated to the good and true God and instead the product of evil forces. Clement and Origen of Alexandria (qq.v.) were among the earliest writers to attempt to find a Christian expression for the world as, on the one hand, the product of a personal Creator, and on the other, consistent with the best insight of the pagan philosophers. Their attempts to accomplish this double task were flawed in ways that contributed to the controversies of the 4th c. and following, over the divinity of Christ and the Trinity (q.v.). The later work of Gregory of Nyssa and Maximus the Confessor (qq.v.) built on the foundations laid by the two Alexandrians. The corrections that Gregory and Maximus applied lay chiefly in their reevaluation of change (kinesis), and in their rooting of universal meaning in the Incarnate Word. The universe, in short, finds the fulfillment of its being and movement in Christ. The latter is the end or goal (telos) for which God made the invisible (angelic) and visible worlds. This adjustment of Origen’s position, which considered material existence a temporary expedient provided for fallen spirits by God’s mercy (see Apocatastasis), owed much to Irenaeus’s (q.v.) idea of “recapitulation,” i.e., the re-creation or renewing of humanity and the world in Christ. The cosmology of the Orthodox Church, evident in both its liturgy and its formal theology (q.v.), is the result of this reworking. The reason of Ukrainian conflict in degradation of ruling elites – Ukrainian Church/Православие.Ru The reason of Ukrainian conflict in degradation of ruling elites – Ukrainian Church Moscow, May 7, 2015 Head of the Moscow Patriarchate " s Ukrainian Orthodox Church press service Vasily Anisimov criticizes Ukrainian authorities. " I think the reason (of the developing military conflict in Ukraine - IF ) is in spiritual and moral degradation of the ruling elite, when bloodshed, violation of civil rights and freedoms, censure, lie, violence, even cruel political murders in the center of the capital during the day cause neither disgust nor abhorrence, " Anisimov says in his interview posted by the Radonezh Orthodox society website. He believes that people feel comfortable in such atmosphere. " We see even malicious joy, " delight of the fascist pressure " as great Kiev resident Yunna Morits wrote. It is s kind of condition characteristic of people before the Flood when they do not tell good from evil or do not want to make an effort to tell it. I believe it is such a moral reason, " the UOC official says. According to him, there is also a political reason as " the party of war is afraid of peace most of all: everyone will count wounds and ask what was the reason for destroying and covering with blood the part of the country and devastating the other part of it. " " So our way to peace is not simple: two steps forward, one step back, " Anisimov resumed. 7 мая 2015 г. The battle over the impulsive thoughts is also greatly aided by the holy Mysteries of the Church, primarily because in the mysteries, God touches man and man touches God. That touch gives the will a bit more strength to again do what is right through the grace of God. According to Metropolitan Hierotheos of Nafpaktos, “When someone lives without the grace of Christ, he is completely unprotected from the devil’s attacks. When, however, he is full of Christ’s grace, it is impossible for the devil to act. St Diadochos of Photiki says that, if God’s grace does not dwell in a person, the demons lurk like snakes in the depths of his heart. But when God’s grace is in the nous, the demons move like dark clouds around the heart, taking the shape of different passions, with the sole purpose of distracting the nous from God. Someone who has the grace of God within him, even if the devil makes war on him, cannot suffer harm.” God is ultimately everything and must become everything for the impulsive. When God is everything for man, man can do anything for God. That is why seeking God’s will is absolutely crucial for those struggling with impulsivity. As Saint Leo, Pope of Rome noted “if our will is His will, our weakness will receive strength from Him, from Whom the very will came; ‘for it is God,’ as the Apostle says, ‘who worketh in us both to will and to do for His good pleasure’” Homily 19). With His strength, the tools that cognitive behavioral therapy offer can truly be effective, and we can truly do all things through Christ who strengthens us. There " s no describing the shock and sense of violation when an object pierces your body " s integrity. But as I sat in the ER at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, I remember thinking that if this is what it felt like to be pierced by a tiny nail, how must it feel to have large ones pounded through your wrists and feet. It made me say to myself, " Lord, thank you for doing that, for me. " The Cross became personal like never before, from a little taste of pain. God doesn " t send pain. He doesn " t afflict us with kidney stones, lacerations, infections or nails through the feet. But as Joseph discovered in Egypt, what his brethren meant for evil (what comes our way from sin, the devil and death), God can use for good. May we find some blessing in pain, and bear this cross as something that unites us to each other and to Christ. Fr. Barnabas Powell 27 сентября 2017 г.
