The youngest of them is a 1-week-old boy, the oldest, a 95-year-old woman.      “The Holy Orthodox Church has always been like a loving mother for its people: reconciling the conflicting groups, giving consolation to those in sorrow, praying for peace and prosperity of our motherland, giving a helping hand to those in need, providing the naked with clothes, giving shelter to the homeless and those without means of subsistence, supporting by prayer and strengthening the weak-spirited and those who have given themselves up to despair, inspiring its spiritual children with hope in the all-powerful help of God,” reads the statement of Abbot of the Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra Archbishop Arseny with the brethren, refugees and pilgrims.      “It is the same in our days: the Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra and, following its example, the whole town of Svyatogorsk have sheltered many refugees with a sincere desire to help their neighbors in trouble and sorrow.      “With the town’s population of 4,000 residents, Svyatogorsk has already received about 25,000 refugees. Some families have lost all their possessions and do not even have daily necessities. 470 people are currently accommodated on the territory of the Svyatogorsk Lavra, with 201 children among them. The youngest refugee is 1 week old and the oldest one is 95. The people have gathered here in great number, hoping for the help of God and the Protection of the Mother of God—the Abbess of this holy place”.      “Very many people have responded to their neighbous’ trouble and appeal for aid. We need a new discussion of the ‘Relationship of the Orthodox Church with the Rest of the Christian World’ document” December 13, 2016 The hierarch of the Greek Orthodox Church has commented on the results of the Crete Council and criticized the document “Relationship of the Orthodox Church with the Rest of the Christian World.” The main points of his statement are published here:    1. “The Crete Council should have clarified the situation (to protect believers from temptation) and should have publicly condemned the two main heresies of our times—papism and ecumenism.” 2. Instead, “the Crete Council not only did not condemn a single heresy, but rather called them ‘Churches.’” 3. “The Church possesses all the fullness of truth and cannot err. If it errs it ceases being the Church. In turn, heresy is delusion. 4. Therefore, using the expression “non-Orthodox Churches” we combine incompatible things: we confess that the Church can err, but heretics to be bearers of truth. It’s absurd.” 5. “The decision of whether to recognize the Crete Council will be jointly made by the whole hierarchy of the Greek Church.” 6. “The documents of the Crete Council can be amended by the next Holy and Great Council. They can be improved for the sake of achieving pan-Orthodox consensus, as the Antiochian, Russian, Bulgarian, and Georgian Churches did not participate in the work of the Crete Council. The usual practice for councils in the past was to hold several meetings over the course of many years, and then they were reckoned in Church consciousness as part of one council.” 7. “Expression of the Orthodox faith requires a precise and unambiguous formulation, full of deep theological meaning. Our Church has fought for accurate expressions of the dogmas of our faith. Today we need prayer and discernment. Archive Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk: Dishonorable visit of Patriarch Bartholomew to Ukraine has demonstrated the fruits of his actions to the world 6 September 2021 year 16:39 Ат the end of August, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople visited Ukraine. He met with the state leaders, with the head of the schismatic OCU that he has recognized, and with representatives of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, ignoring the position of bishops, clergymen and laymen of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church that unites the majority of the faithful in Ukraine. Also, he “took no notice” of the several thousand strong protest actions against his visit.  On this background, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for Eternal Church Relations, cited the Hoy Scriptures: “anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit” (Jn 10:1-2). Speaking at ‘The Church and the World” TV programme, he underscored:”Patriarch Barthoomew has arrived in the country in which the majority of the faithful do not recognize him as their pastor. He had to come in the Verkhovna Rada in the literal sense through the back door as the faithful have gathered there protesting against his visit. This visit was made at the invitation of the state authorities and schismatics. The majority of the Orthodox has not only ignored his visit but has explicitly shown that Patriarch Bartholomew was not their pastor. Metropolitan Hilarion believes that “all this testifies to the mistake made by Patriarch Bartholomew in 2018 in which he still has no desire to repent.” “Now Patriarch Bartholomew, wishing to present his wishful thinking as the reality, comes to a group of scismatics and says: the real Church is here, and only some titular bishops are there. Patriarch Bartholomew acts as if there is no Church with over twelve thousand parishes, over two hundred and fifty monasteries, more than one hundred bishops and millions of believers. But the spiritual and cultural heritage of the whole world should not become a hostage to a current political situation. It is too bad that a political expediency has come out on top of the respect for other religious traditions. The transformation of Hagia Sophia into a mosque is the Turkish leaders’ slap in the face of the Orthodox Church and the whole world Christianity’, His Eminence said to the agency. Earlier, Turkey’s Council of State repealed the Turkish Government resolution to assign Hagia Sophia in Istanbul the status of museum. It was reported on Friday by the CNN Turk news channel. Archive DECR chairman meets with Primate of the Armenian Catholic Church 10 January 2022 year 15:50 On January 10, 2022, DECR chairman Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk met with His Beatitude Raphael Berdos, Catholicos Patriarch of Cilicia, who has come to Russia for the first time as Primate of the Armenian Catholic Church since he was elected to the Patriarchal see in September 2021. The meeting took place at the Department for the External Church Relations (DECR) of the Moscow Patriarchate. His Beatitude was accompanied by Protoarchimadrite Bedros (Yessaian), rector of the Armenian Catholic parish in Moscow, and Hegumen Narek (Mnoian), Patriarchal secretary. From the Russian Orthodox Churches, there were Hieromonk Stephen (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, and S. Alferov, staff member of the DECR. Metropolitan Hilarion welcomed the high guest on behalf of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. His Eminence pointed to the importance of cooperation between the Moscow Patriarchate and the Armenian Catholic Church, including in implementing humanitarian projects in Syria and Lebanon. On his part, His Beatitude thanked Metropolitan Hilarion for the hospitality, expressing gratitude to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and to the whole Russian Orthodox Church, as well as to the Russian State for their consistent efforts to support persecuted and distressed Christians in various regions of the world. Archive The Serbian Church re-affirms its position on church situation in Ukraine 31 May 2019 year 22:39 His Holiness Irenaeus, Patriarch of Serbia, has familiarized His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, with the position taken by the Serbian Orthodox Church on the Ukrainian church problems. Below is the full text of the official position formulated by the Bishops’ Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church at its session on May 14, 2019.  With regard to the disputed and vitally important topic of an abnormal church situation in Ukraine that has developed after the well-known decisions and unilateral interference of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the Sacred Bishops’ Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church officially and unanimously informs and presents to the general public that the position of our Church on this problem remains unchanged as to its previous official conciliar and synodal decisions, statements and appeals. Accordingly, the Serbian Orthodox Church does not recognize the newly formed pseudo-ecclesiastical structure in Ukraine, headed by citizens Denisenko and Dumenko, but stands in the liturgical and canonical communion only and exceptionally with the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church headed by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy. It implies that our Church is in communion with all the rest canonical Orthodox Churches. We repeat once again that our Sacred Bishops’ Council makes another appeal to all to solve and resolve the church problems in Ukraine canonically, in fraternal dialogue with the Russian Orthodox Church on the whole and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in particular after a conference on the pan-Orthodox level. We send the text of our decision concurrently to the Patriarch of Constantinople and to Your Holiness and after them will immediately send it to all the rest Primates of local Orthodox Churches and, in an appropriate form, to the public both ecclesial and secular.
