On Friday evening, while the participants enjoyed a night out in Clearwater, the LMC held their annual meeting and discussed an agenda that included preparations for next year’s conference. During this year’s conference, many participants expressed their interest in the historical evolution and status of the ROCM conferences and everything this project has accomplished since its founding in Glen Cove in 1987. Over the years, the ROCM conference has been enormously successful in awakening the interest and commitment of a whole new generation of Orthodox Church musicians. As a result, the conference can no longer be seen as a solitary undertaking, as multiple other initiatives and ad hoc regional meetings continue to spring up every year in different corners of the United States, Canada, and around the world. The LMC is grateful for the constructive feedback and encouragement it received and is looking forward to auspicious program planning for the coming year. On Saturday night, we all traveled to St. Andrew’s church for the Vigil service. The choir of roughly fifty singers fit comfortably in the choir loft of the new church, which featured magnificent acoustic surroundings. All church services were officiated by Vladyka Theodosy, who himself is very fond of church singing, and who during his time at the Kiev Caves Lavra monastery, was part of their choir. (It is well known that, on occasion, Vladyka comes up to the choir loft of the San Francisco Cathedral to sing Kievan Lavra chant along with the Holy Virgin Cathedral choir.) Archpriest Igor, Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky, and Deacon Igor Tarasov concelebrated with Vladyka Theodosy. After the Vigil, a catered dinner was served, generously donated by a benefactor from the parish. On Sunday morning, a festive greeting and vesting of the bishop took place. The Divine Liturgy was peacefully prayerful. All the work that went into rehearsing and conducting technique during the conference was evident in the beautiful singing witnessed by those who attended the Divine services. At the end of Divine Liturgy, the thunderous chant of “Many Years,” along with the words of gratitude from Vladyka and Father Igor, warmed the hearts of those present. After the service, the parish hosted a farewell banquet, during which the LMC thanked all the local organizers, presenting gifts to those who made significant contributions: Vladyka Theodosy, Father Igor and Matushka Shitikov, Elder sister Rose Agayev, Music Director Vladislav Markov and Olga Markov, an anonymous donor, Vitaly Macas, Louise Kudrov, Katherine and Alexei Lukianov, Peter Jermihov, and Eugenia Temidis. We wish our Liturgical Music Commission strength, health, patience, and vitality of spirit for their further efforts in the field of church music. Next year, God willing, we will all meet at the 25th Jubilee ROCM Conference, which will be held at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Montreal, Canada. May it be so! 6 ноября 2015 г. Смотри также

It had either disintegrated through the passage of time, or been destroyed during the desolation of the region. The monks obtained permission, indeed direction, from Anselm, Archbishop of Canterbury, to excavate and find the burial. But the actual discovery was inadvertent. On the vigil of St. John the Baptist, while the monks were celebrating the night office, an even occurred in the monastery of the Holy Trinity in the very place where the document said the holy body lay. Two boys were playing when the ground under their feet collapsed, and they sank up to their knees into a kind of circular pit. At the sight of this, Raymond, the lay-brother, ran off to the monastery of St. Mildburga where the brethren were chanting Mattins. As it was night, nothing was done until morning. Then, with tools, the ground was excavated and the bones of the Saint exposed, together with remains of iron bands. The sacred limbs had been buried in a wooden coffin. No signs of the altar mentioned in the parchment had yet appeared. On the following day the brethren began to dig throughout the whole church. Eventually there appeared beyond any possible doubt the foundations of the altar mentioned in the document, near to which, as was universally known, the holy body had been found the previous day... » When a beautiful fragrance as of balsam pervaded the church, her body was taken up and many miracles were performed through it. People suffering from leprosy and blindness were healed. Once a woman was cured when she vomited a «monstrous worm». In 1540, during the Protestant Reformation, St. Mildburgás relics were burnt in the market place. St. Mildburga is commemorated on February 23. Archive Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk: President of Montenegro works to divide the population of the country, on religious grounds in particular 20 September 2021 year 11:57 On September 5, 2021, in the historical center of Montenegro – Cetinje – Metropolitan Joanikije was installed as Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral. He had been elected by the Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church in place of the late Metropolitan Amfilohije. Radical forces supported by Milo ukanovi, the President of the country, who had been known for his unrelenting opposition to the canonical Church, tried to prevent the celebration of this occasion in Cetinje. In response to the accusations of the attempt to excite unrest, ukanovi said: “We have become witnesses to profound disgrace of the Serbian Orthodox Church that has unprecedentedly shamed the long history of the state of Montenegro, as well as the history of Orthodoxy as a whole.” Commenting on this statement at the request of the host of “The Church and the World” TV programme Yekaterina Gracheva, Metropolitan Hilarion, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, said, “Just as Pyotr Poroshenko in his time dreamt of creating an ‘independent Ukrainian Church,’ so also Milo ukanovi is dreaming of creating an ‘independent Montenegrin Church.’ Therefore, his support is not for the canonical Church, with the majority of the population of Montenegro among its parishioners, but for a certain schismatic group consisting of a few adventurers who have clothed themselves with episcopal or clerical vestments.” According to Metropolitan Hilarion, what actually brings shame on Montenegro is its leader who is unable to unite the people of his country, but instead is working for their division, bringing about a conflict.” “It was indeed a shame that the Serbian Patriarch, who came to perform the enthronement of Metropolitan of Montenegro, could not reach Cetinje unhindered, because ukanovi’s followers were placed on the road to block the Patriarch’s access to the city. The Patriarch had to reach the city by helicopter. There are video-clips showing him coming down from the helicopter under the protection of the military carrying shields to cover him and the metropolitan-elect of Montenegro against snipers’ bullets. This is what indeed shames Montenegro; and it is the President of Montenegro ukanovi who is to blame for it,” concluded the DECR’s chairman. Russian Church trying to find a place for the closed Oxford museum built by teacher of children of Nicholas II Source: Interfax-Religion Moscow, October 7, 2016      The Sourozh Diocese (combining parishes of the Russian Church in Great Britain and Ireland) is seeking to resolve the issue with a closed chapel-museum dedicated to the family of Nicholas II in Oxford. It was built by Archimandrite Nicholas (Gibbes), the teacher of the children of the last Russian emperor. “Presently our parish of St. Nicholas in Oxford is laboring to find a permanent place of habitation for the sacred items left behind by Archimandrite Nicholas (Gibbes), and we hope this work will be crowned with success,” stated Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh in an interview Friday with Interfax-Religion. According to him, after the death in the early 1990s of the adopted son of Archimandrite Nicholas, George Gibbes, the chapel was closed. Then for some time it was set up in the “Luton Hoo” estate in Hertfordshire County, but financial difficulties led to the space’s closing. Archimandrite Nicholas (in the world Charles Sydney Gibbes) was the English teacher for the children of Nicholas II, particularly of the Tsarevich Alexei. With ten years of service in the Russian imperial court he became a confidant of the royal family, even following them into exile in Siberia. In 1934 he accepted Orthodoxy with the name Alexei (in honor of the Tsarevich Alexei), and in the next year monasticism with the name Nicholas (in honor of Nicholas II). He founded a parish in London and then in Oxford. He remained faithful his whole life to the memory of the royal family and managed to save many of their relics. In 1945 Fr. Nicholas bought three cottages in Oxford, keeping the items in one of them, including an icon which Tsarina Alexandra Fedorovna entrusted to him in Tobolsk, including a dedicatory inscription, a pair of the emperor’s high boots, his handkerchief, and a bell and pencil case belonging to the Tsarevich Alexei. In 1946 he founded a museum in memory of the royal family in one of the three cottages. The large part of the items preserved there were taken from them at Ipatiev House, where Nicholas II’s family was shot, and transferred to Beijing. The priest took them with him everywhere from that time. As reported, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will visit London October 15-18 for the 300 year anniversary of the presence of Russian Orthodoxy in the British Isles. Archive Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk: Everything needs to be done to preserve Christian presence in the Holy Land 8 January 2022 year 12:19 On December 13, 2021, Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem and other heads of Christian Churches in Jerusalem came out with a statement drawing the attention of the state authorities and public to the threat to Christian presence in the Holy Land caused by the activities of radical groups, in particular, to the attempts to violate the identity of the Christian quarter of the Old City with the aim to eventually drive away the Christian community from Jerusalem. Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk spoke about the grave situation in the Holy Land and the plight, in which Christians of the Middle East have found themselves at present, during the Church and the World program aired on January 7, the Feast of the Nativity of Christ. “As a whole, the situation of Christians in the Middle East can be describes as tragic”, the archpastor stated, “We can see that the number of Christians is decreasing in almost all the countries of the Middle East. In some places this decrease is going on at fast and noticeable paces, for example, in Iraq, where in the last fifteen years the number of Christian has decreased to from million and a half to one thousand fifty hundred, at best. In other places, it is going less noticeably, for instance, in Lebanon, wh ere the ratio between Christians and Muslims is just gradually changing”. His Eminence Hilarion also noted that in Bethlehem, the city in which Jesus Christ was born, the number of Christians has noticeably decreased in recent years. “We can see that in Israel there are radical groups who seek to oust Christian Churches from the Holy Land”, the hierarch said. Having reminded the audience that Jerusalem is the holy city for the three world religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam, he stated the need to do everything to preserve Christian presence in the Holy Land, “so that Christians may not feel themselves second-class citizens either in Israel or Palestine, so that Christians’ holy places may be preserves, so that Christians may not be deprived of their property and so that radical groups may not attack Christians and put their lives at risk”. “This appeal is especially relevant now as we celebrate the Nativity of Christ”, the archpastor stressed. Metropolitan Hilarion celebrates the Day of All Saints at Moscow Representation of the Orthodox Church of Alexandria Moscow, June 8, 2015      On June 7, 2015, the Day of All Saints, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), led the parishioners of the church of All Saint-at-Kulishki, the Moscow Representation of the Orthodox Church of Alexandria, in celebrating the Divine Liturgy. The liturgy was celebrated in Greek and Church Slavonic. After the liturgy the DECR chairman was greeted by Metropolitan Athanasios of Kyrenia, rector of the Representation, who said in particular, ‘The fact that you have accepted our invitation and our common celebration of the great Sacrament do not just point out the good relations between the Patriarchates of Alexandria and Moscow but, more important, make it visible that the holy Churches of God are bound up by inseparable unity, comprising One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church’.      In his response, Metropolitan Hilarion spoke about the Day of All Saints as a feast commemorating hundreds of thousands of people who, following Christ, took the path of sanctity. The Lord Jesus Christ, he said, came out against the understanding of sanctity as one’s isolation from society and the need to observe a whole bulk of prescriptions and statutes. The Lord told very simple things to people: ‘the kingdom of God is within you’, and the spiritual struggle for sanctity is waged within a person. Speaking about martyrs and confessors who followed Christ on the way to sanctity in times of persecution against the Church, Metropolitan Hilarion pointed to the fact that the Church has again become persecuted today in the Middle East, where Christianity was born and in North Africa, where Christians have become a persecuted minority. ‘We pray every day that the Lord may give us peaceful times. We pray for all Local Orthodox Churches and especially for such old Patriarchates as that of Alexandria founded by St. Mark, asking the Lord that He may preserve and multiply Christian faith in the countries in which it is subjected to oppression and persecution today’. Addressing Metropolitan Athanasios, His Eminence Hilarion thanked him for the opportunity to celebrate together and to pray for His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodore, saying, ‘ We know and love him. He used to serve in Odessa as representative of the Patriarch of Alexandria to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. He has covered a long and difficult path and founded a great number of church communities in various African countries… I rejoice in the fact that the spiritual ties between our two Churches are developing and strengthening today including through your efforts’. 8 июня 2015 г.
