While problems remain in the relations between the Russian Orthodox and Catholic Churches, both see protection of persecuted Christians as a priority, the synodal Department for External Church Relations said ahead of the upcoming meeting between the patriarch and the pope. " If we are talking of the meeting between His Holiness Pope Francis and His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, this is a meeting between two brightest and most significant leaders of the Christian world, the leaders of the largest Christian communities. There were many years of thorough preparations for the meeting, " Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations secretary for inter-Christian relations Hieromonk Stephan (Igumnov) told Interfax-Religion . While it cannot be said that problems that hindered this meeting have finally been solved, " today the circumstances have formed, as a result of which it is no longer possible to postpone the meeting, " he said. At issue is the situation of Christians in the Middle East, in North Africa, in a number of other regions of the world, and the meeting between the patriarch and the pontiff " will focus primarily and precisely on this problem, " he said. Persecutions " against our brothers today is a pain shared by all Christians, prompting to jointly stand up for them, " he said. The agenda of the two Churches includes a whole host of other topics on which they share views: the problem of preserving the traditional moral values, family protection, and many other issues, the priest said. " But the main reason today is the need to make a joint statement in support of the Christians in those regions where they are persecuted, " he said. It was reported that Patriarch Kirill and Pope Frances will be meeting in Havana on February 12. This will be the first ever meeting between a Russian patriarch and a pope. It has been about 20 years in the planning. The central topic of the meeting will be persecutions against Christians in the Middle East. A joint declaration will be signed after the meeting. Archive Billy Graham’s book ‘Happiness of Living in Christ’ presented in CMI 5 March 2019 year 10:12 On March 4, 2019, Billy Graham’s book Happiness of Living in Christ. Billy Graham’s Sermons  was presented at the Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies (CMI). The book was prepared by the Poznanie Publishers as part of a joint project of the CMI and the Billy Graham Evangelical Association.  The book was presented by the CMI rector and the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations (DECR), Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, and the president of the Billy Graham Evangelical Association, Rev. Franklin Graham, the son of the famous preacher. Opening the presentation, Metropolitan Hilarion said, ‘Billy Graham was not just an outstanding preacher of the 20th century, but also a legendary man’ whose sermons brought together whole stadiums of people. ‘Billy Graham loved Russia and was not shy of this love’, His Eminence stressed, ‘In spite of the confrontation between the USSR and the USA, Billy Graham did not just use to come to our country but also addressed large audiences, including in America, speaking about our country. The metropolitan pointed out to Billy Graham’s Christ-centered sermons. ‘He was a Protestant preacher but the spirit of his preaching was Orthodox. Trough vivid images he managed to bring the Gospel’s message home to people and even convince non-believers’. The son of the preacher and continuer of his cause, Franklin Graham, too, spoke about his father’s love of Russia and the Russian Church: ‘My father’s heart was very much disposed to the people of Russia; he prayed for them, He came not for the sake of politics and for speaking about Christ Who assumed our sins’, the leader of the Evangelical Association recalled. In spite of the fact that Billy Graham ‘did not want to be spoken about himself but wished that all the glory should go only to God, he was delighted at the publication of this book’, the preacher’s son recalled. Metropolitan Hilarion and Franklin Graham also recalled with warmth the only meeting His Eminence had with Billy Graham, which was a great joy for the both. Archive DECR chairman meets with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán 7 September 2019 year 10:14 On 6 th  September 2019, a meeting between Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, and Mr. Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, took place at the House of the Hungarian Government in Budapest. The DECR chairman arrived in Hungary with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to take part in the Budapest Forum for Christian Communicators.  Greeting Mr. Orbán, Metropolitan Hilarion noted that he had the warmest recollections of Hungary, for in 2003-2009 he headed the diocese of Hungary of the Russian Orthodox Church and in his capacity as chairman of the Department for External Church Relations he undertakes regular working visits to the country. The participants in the meeting discussed the role and importance of Christianity in today’s world. Among the issues raised at the meeting was the situation of Orthodox Christians in Ukraine, where numerous cases of discrimination against and violation of the rights of individual believers and whole communities occurred. As the DECR chairman noted, the drastic aggravation of the religious situation and the increasing number of inter-confessional conflicts in Ukraine this year can be explained, first of all, by the actions of the state authorities, which in December 2018 made an attempt to forcibly unify the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and two schismatic structures. As Metropolitan Hilarion pointed out, the Moscow Patriarchate maintains good and constructive relations with the Hungarian leadership that devotes favourable attention to the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church’s parishes located in the territory of Hungary. To conclude the meeting, Metropolitan Hilarion thanked the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for his willingness to further promote the relationships between Hungary and the Russian Orthodox Church. Tweet Нравится Estonian Orthodox church iconostasis and icons named cultural monument Source: RIA-Novosti Tallinn, Estonia, December 1, 2016      Estonian Minister of Culture Indrek Saar has signed an order recognizing as cultural monuments the structures, iconostasis, icons, and altarpiece with framework of the church of St. John the Baptist in the village of Kolga-Yani, reports the portal Delfi. The Orthodox Church was built in Kolga-Yani (near the city of Tartu) in the 1870s. At the same time it was decided how to decorate the church, including the wooden iconostasis, icons, and altarpiece with frame behind the iconostasis. In all, nineteen sacred images, surrounded by wooden decorated designs, were included as monuments. According to the adviser for protecting monuments of antiquity, Estonian Minister of Culture Liini Yanes, it is very important that the ensemble was taken under protection as a whole. “Although the decoration of the church of St. John the Baptist in Kolga-Yani was completely typical for the 1870s, it has become a rarity by our times,” noted the adviser. Until now, not a single iconostasis as a whole had been taken under protection. The proposal to recognize the church décor as a cultural monument was made by the department for protecting monuments of antiquity, arguing for it on the basis of its time and place, uniqueness and wholeness. The recognition of the object as a cultural monument allows the owner to apply for grants for maintenance and beautification. Translated by Jesse Dominick RIA-Novosti 2 декабря 2016 г. Systematic Christian Silence on the Russian Intervention/Православие.Ru Systematic Christian Silence on the Russian Intervention In Order to Prevent the Repeat of Tragedies and Civil Wars Source: Notes on Arab Orthodoxy October 14, 2015      All Christian political parties, movements, and blocs are avoiding taking any public position about the Russian military intervention in Syria, despite the fact that the division between Christians over the Syrian crisis is clear, as is their division over every issue. There are those who support the regime and hope for its victory and there are those who are still betting on the victory of the opposition and the defeat of the regime, in addition to a a third group who see both the regime and the opposition as having failed. With the exception of a lone statement by the leader of the Lebanese Forces, Samir Geagea, that the Russian intervention is in order to prevent the fall of the regime in Damascus, the other parties such as the Free Patriotic Movement, the Phalange, the National Liberal Party, and even the institutional Church are still keeping a systematic silence about the issue. Policy statements issued by them are deliberately ignoring the whole issue without even making a hidden reference to it. This political Christian silence does not mean that public opinion is unconcerned about what is happening. The matter is on everyone " s lips in Christian circles. The statement attributed to the Russian Orthodox Church only sharpened the debates and raised them to unprecedented levels in a society that just a short time ago was fearful of the arrival of takfiris and ISIS in the Lebanese arena. This terrifying prospect, to which is added images and reports in the media about the suffering of Iraqi Christians and Yezidis and the humiliation to which they were subjected after their women were sold in slave markets, in addition to being treacherously murdered by their neighbors. All of these reports have contributed to lowering morale and raising tension.

Michael Prokurat, Alexander Golitzin, Michael D. Peterson Скачать epub pdf PHILOSOPHY PHILOSOPHY. Philosophy as a distinct discipline dates from the Greek thinkers of the 6th c. B.C., and especially from the time of Plato (q.v.). In origin it was in part a reaction against the inadequacies of traditional pagan religion and the inherited mythology; it often sought through reason to validate traditional practice. With Plato, Aristotle, and the Stoics, philosophy became the intellectual and spiritual lens through which the cultivated elite of the Hellenistic and Roman worlds viewed their universe. While several different schools existed in the Roman Empire (q.v.) at the time of Christ, it was the three above that dominated the world of late antiquity; in the work of Plotinus (q.v.) they achieved a kind of fusion. Thus Neoplatonism (q.v.), codified two centuries later by Proclus (d. 486)-who set the philosophical curriculum for the whole Byzantine era (q.v.)-was the philosophy of the later Church Fathers (q.v.). From the 2nd-c. “Mid-Platonism” of the Apologists (q.v.) down to the capture of Constantinople (q.v.) in 1453, Christian writers sought a way to come to terms with philosophy. Many embraced it gladly: Clement of Alexandria, Origen, the Cappadocians, and Dionysius the Areopagite (qq.v.)-always with careful revisions. Others, particularly in monastic circles, were more dubious, regarding the philosophers’ claims of autonomous reason as deluded or demonic. The inherent tension between revealed truth and the sovereignty of reason was never resolved, then or now. Modern Orthodox look to the Fathers and see, first, that the questions of the modern world are very seldom new, and second, that spiritual writers have dealt with many of these issues in particular ways. The latter emphasized the purification of the intellect itself, an affirmation that reason requires the school of humility (q.v.) in order to work in a way adequate to the mystery of Christ. Moscow church destroyed by Napoleon to be restored Moscow, July 8, 2014      The Church of Beheading of St. John the Baptist, destroyed by the French at their retreat from Moscow in 1812, will be reconstructed near the walls of the Novodevichy Convent, reports Interfax-Religion with the reference to Vladimir Resin, State Duma deputy and adviser of Patriarch Kirill. “The approximate, cost of the building will be 50 million rubles,” he said on Tuesday at a press conference in Moscow. The chronicles date the foundation of this church to the year 1525 – the time of construction of the Novodevichy Convent. In September 1812, the convent was temporarily occupied by the French, who, could not destroy the whole convent as they left, but did destroy the Church of Beheading of St. John the Baptist. As contemporary to the convent, this church was an integral part of its ensemble. One of the convent towers is called “Predtechenskaya” (“of the Forerunner”) to this day. Architects for the reconstruction project of the lost church used 19th century engravings and drawings, but for want of detailed designs it is impossible to restore its authentic appearance. The Church was up to 30 meters in height. Thanks to archaeological excavations, the precise location of the original church has been ascertained. At the present time this site is in the buffer zone of a UNESCO world heritage site, which dictates specific requirements: the new church must not change the existing town-planning situation radically and exceed the convent towers, which means it must not be higher than 18 meters. The new church will be tent-roofed: firstly, because the destroyed church was tent-roofed, and secondly, it will be a memorial church in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the expulsion of Napoleon’s troops. Memorial churches built in honor of victories of the Russian forces were traditionally crowned with a tent. Construction of this church, which will hold up to 150 people, must be completed within a year. 11 июля 2014 г. Смотри также Комментарии Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку
