President of the foundation Nikolai Antoshkin conveyed to the Archbishop the gratitude of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian people. The Archbishop thanked him for the honor, saying that he feels that this expression of love and honor does not belong only to him but to the whole Church of Cyprus and its members. “Ties of spirit are much stronger than ties of blood and I have never restricted myself within the limits of the Cypriot Church”, the Archbishop said, pointing out that he is considering the best interest of all Orthodox around the world. The Archbishop said that if there are difficulties and problems in relations between the Orthodox Churches, this is because many people raise first the nationality of their local Church and secondly their Christian identity. The head of the Church of Cyprus expressed to the President and the Prime Minister of Russia his appreciation for the support of the country to Cyprus’ national issue. On his part Antoshkin conveyed to the Archbishop the gratitude of all 35 000 members of the Foundation. “As a representative of the newly elected President Putin I also convey to you his gratitude as well as the gratitude of all 140 million Russian people”, he said. “Your work is great and appreciated not only in Cyprus but also throughout the Orthodox world, " " he said. Antoshkin referred to the Archbishop " s great contribution to the spiritual unity of the people around the world, the strengthening of friendship between Cyprus and Russia, the establishment and development of friendship around the world, his persistent work to combat national and religious hatred between different communities and his struggle for Cyprus’ integrity and peace. Tweet Нравится Theophany “bathing” not a sport, not for forgiveness of sins says St. Petersburg Diocese Moscow, January 17, 2017 Photo:      The St. Petersburg Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church is calling upon all faithful to sensibly approach Theophany “bathing” in fonts, pools, creeks, and ponds, neither for sport nor for forgiveness of sins. “There is a belief that if you immerse yourself in a font, you will wash away all your sins. I hasten to disappoint you,” says Fr. Bogdan Polevoi of the Joy of All Who Sorrow podvoriye of the Holy Trinity-Zelenesk Monastery, “but this is absolutely not true. If you led an indecent life for a whole year, allowing yourself anything, and then decide that if you come and plunge on January 18 or 19, you will be clean, pure, and wonderful—this is a mistaken belief,” he stated in a press conference with Interfax-Religion on Tuesday. It is a widespread custom in Russia to plunge three times into freezing bodies of water, often in Cross-shaped holes, or in pools set up throughout the cities on the feast of the Theophany—the Lord’s Baptism, on January 18 and 19. Fr. Bogdan is urging all participants to remember and perceive the sacred meaning of the act, without which it becomes “nothing more than some kind of sport or extreme procedure.” The Church has no official position on Theophany bathing as an ecclesiastical custom Fr. Bogdan reminds. Rather it is a good and pious folk custom which arose relatively recently. Mother Teresa shelter to be torn down in Moscow Moscow, September 20, 2011 On September 13, 2011 it became known that demolition was to begin on the building housing the shelter of the Mother Teresa Society, located on Third Parkovaya Street in Moscow. The shelter has been a center for rehabilitation of the homeless for twenty years, reports CNL News . The city of Moscow decided the fate of the shelter by arbitrage. On February 5, 2010, the city satisfied a claim made by the prefecture requiring the Mother Teresa Society " Missionaries of Mercy " to tear down their one-storey building and attic level of a two-storey building ruled as " willful construction " back in 2008. In recognition of the importance of such charitable work, many organizations in Moscow had applied to the Moscow municipal government and presidential administration requesting assistance for the Sisters of Mother Teresa in reaching an agreement. Representatives of the Vatican in the Russian Federation had also made persistent requests for the same. The department of social defense of the city of Moscow highly regarded the society " s work, and promised to support it. The Public Chamber of the Russian Federation also agreed to help resolve the conflict. The sisters have especially expressed their thanks to the Russian Orthodox Church. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev), chairman of the Department for External Church Relations had also requested support for the sisters. Nevertheless, these requests brought no results. The sisters received contradictory answers and orders from the local authorities, which could not have enabled them to understand the official position on the matter, reports internet site Tatianin Den " . Archive Statement of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia 6 July 2020 year 10:45 The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church expressed his deep concern over the calls voiced by a number of the Turkish politicians for the change in the current status of Hagia Sophia, one of the greatest masterpieces of Christian culture. I am deeply concerned over the calls of certain Turkish politicians to reconsider the museum status of Hagia Sophia, one of the greatest monuments of Christian culture. Built in the 6 th century in honour of Christ the Saviour, this church is of great importance to the whole Orthodoxy. And it is especially dear to the Russian Church. Prince Vladimir’s envoys stepped across the threshold of this church and were captivated by its heavenly beauty. Having heard their story, St. Vladimir received baptism and baptised Rus’, which followed him into a new spiritual and historical dimension – Christian civilisation. Many generations conveyed to us admiration for achievements of this civilisation, with us now being its part. And Hagia Sophia has always been one of its devoutly venerated symbols. The image of this church has become deeply ingrained in our culture and history, having given strength and inspiration to our architects of the past in Kiev, Novgorod, Polotsk – in all the major centres of the spiritual formation of Early Rus’.. There were different, sometimes rather difficult periods in the history of relations between Rus’ and Constantinople.. Yet, with bitterness and indignation the Russian people responded in the past and respond now to any attempt to degrade or trample upon the millennium-old spiritual heritage of the Church of Constantinople. A threat to Hagia Sophia is a threat to the entire Christian civilisation and, therefore, to our spirituality and history. To this day Hagia Sophia remains a great Christian shrine for every Russian Orthodox believer. It is a duty of every civilised state to maintain balance: to reconcile the society, and not aggravate discords in it; to help unite people, and not divide them. Today the relationships between Turkey and Russia are developing dynamically. At the same time, one should take into account that Russia is a country with the majority of population professing Orthodoxy, and so, what may happen to Hagia Sophia will inflict great pain on the Russian people. I hope for the prudence of Turkey’s state leadership. Venerable Simeon Of Pângrai Venerable Saints Simeon and Amphilochius Of Pângrai      Venerable Simeon was born at the beginning of the fifteenth century in a village close to Piatra Neam city, at the time of the pious ruler Prince Alexander the Kind (1400-1432). From his youth he was a very religious man, choosing to live the monastic life and joining the community of Bistria Monastery. After much ascetic practice and obedience, in 1432 he retired together with two of his disciples on the left bank of Pângrai creek. There he built a cell of fir beams in a beautiful meadow where he stayed together with his disciples in permanent prayer, so that his place became known as “Simeon’s Hermitage.” Having heard of him, Right-believing Prince Stephan the Great (1457–1504) helped him raise a small wooden church dedicated to Great Martyr St. Demetrius the Myrrh-Gusher. When Metropolitan Teoctist I consecrated it, Venerable Simeon was ordained priest, becoming the founder and igumen of Pângrai Monastery, called “Simeon’s Skete” until 1508. There he gathered many disciples around him, growing in self-denial and prayer and receiving the gifts of healing and of prophecy. The faithful benefited from his blessings, as well as high officials, and even Right-believing Prince Stephan the Great, who used to ask for his advice for him and for the country. In 1476, when the Turks invaded Moldavia and won the battle of Rzboieni, Venerable Simeon prayed for the country and for the ruling prince to rid them of the invaders, and took his disciples to settle at Cava Monastery, in Mure region. There he passed away the same year in the autumn, being buried in that monastery. Towards the end of 1484, when peace was reigning again in the country, Right-believing Prince Stephan the Great placed his relics in a shrine and kept them in his treasury, in great honor. Then he took parts of the relics and placed them in a shrine for veneration, burying the rest of them in the Citadel of Suceava. On March 6, 2008 the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church canonized Venerable Simeon and Amphilochius , to be celebrated on September 7/20. Through the prayers of the venerable Saints Simeon and Amphilochius, Lord Jesus Christ our God have mercy on us. Amen. These ideas and activities may be old-fashioned or modern, spiritualistic or secular, relativistic or sectarian, political or pietistic. They may be sophisticated or simplistic, intellectual or popular, refined or vulgar. But whatever or however they are not rooted in Jesus Christ. Moscow government representative A.A. Ignatenko, representative of Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation I.K. Korostelev were present at the event in addition to representatives of traditional faiths of Russia, reports Patriarchia.ru . The statement of the Interreligious Council of Russia concerning the situation in the Ukraine: " We, the heads and representatives of traditional religious communities of Russia, express our deep concern in connection with the ongoing events in the Ukraine. The Ukrainian and Russian peoples are united by the centuries-old common history, and inseparable spiritual, cultural and kindred relationships. Our fraternal nations must cherish this commonality and work towards its development. We categorically condemn the provocation of ethnic conflicts, the derivation of political dividends from the people " s suffering. We hope that no one ever manages to change the Ukraine into a state that is hostile to Russia. We also feel certain that the wise and freedom-loving Ukrainian nation must preserve its right to an independent choice of its historical path, of its own values, which cannot be torn from its many centuries’ history, its moral standards, its model of organization of economics, public and state life. It is also important to preserve the common cultural and spiritual space of the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). Respecting the right of all Ukrainian residents and various public groups to freely choose their path of development, we are calling all to do their best to peacefully and mutually acceptably settle the existing controversies and disagreements. We consider intolerable any language-related, ethnic, religious and political discrimination. It is the recognition of the full extent of the legal rights of various ethnic, regional and religious communities, including a right to participation in determination of fate of the whole state with respect for traditional values of the majority of the nation, that can prevent new sources of instability. We feel as if they are our own wounds the killing of people, the appearance of refugees, the increase of intolerance and mutual indifference in Ukrainian society, persecution of certain religious and social figures, threats to the normal functioning of monasteries, churches, mosques and synagogues.

Archive Representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of Antioch takes part in meeting with Syrian President 18 January 2019 year 13:14 On January 17, 2019, the President of the Inter-Parliament Assembly of Orthodoxy and Russian State Duma member, S. A. Gavrilov, visited the Damascus representation of the Russian Orthodox Church.  The Russian parliament member attended a thanksgiving celebrated at the representation’s church of St. Ignatius the God-bearer by its rector, Hegumen Arseny (Sokolov), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of Great Antioch and All the East. Mr. Gavrilov presented the representation church a bell cast in Voronezh according to a special technology. Mr. Gavrilov had a talk with Hegumen Arseny at the representation’s receptions hall to discuss issues of mutual concern. After that, Hegumen Arseniy took part in a meeting between the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and a delegation of the Russian parliamentarians, public figures and entrepreneurs.  The delegation included Mr. Sergei Gavrilov, president of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy and deputy of the State Duma; Mr. Dmitry Sablin, deputy of the State Duma; and representatives of the Russian non-governmental organizations and entrepreneurs. Greeting the President of Syria on behalf of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Hegumen Arseniy said in particular, “Mr. President, all the power in the universe belongs to the Almighty, and He gives it to whomever He wishes. May the Almighty pour wisdom into your heart for leading the Syrian people at this difficult time! The future of the peoples of the Middle East, as well as of the entire humanity, including Russia, depends on what occurs in the Middle East. Metropolitan Amphilohije: " NATO bombings are a continuation of fascism " Cetinje, March 30, 2014      In the days when the whole Serbian Church commemorates victims of barbaric bombings during the NATO attack of Yugoslavia in 1999, Metropolitan Amphilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral performed a memorial service at the Cetinje Monastery. Praying for repose of the souls of all innocent victims on the territory of Serbia and Montenegro, the hierarch called the NATO aggression an awful crime, committed in the very heart of Europe: " European peoples, once Christian, marked the second millennium of their Christian history by these bombings of Holy lands, Christian shrines, especially of Kosovo and Metohija. This is a sign that will be remembered by generations and that will serve as a measure of everything that happened late in the 20th to early 21st centuries, " said Metropolitan Amphilohije. In the hierarch’s view, the godless tyranny is continuing its violence towards Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, and in recent times the godless tyranny has been sinking its tentacles to Europe. The hierarch has compared the NATO aggression with medieval crusades, which, proclaiming their struggle for the truth and liberation, indeed destroyed the eastern Christian Byzantine Empire, desecrated Holy Sophia and ended up by insolently plundering Christian shrines. Montenegro, 1999      " The godless and tyrannical bombings and NATO violence is a continuation of Nazism and fascism of the 20th century. Hitler too was building a new world order and thus shed the blood of millions of people in Europe, Asia, Africa, " stressed the hierarch. " If what happened with us in 1999 and what is happening now in the spacious territories of Asia and other places is the NATO " s aim, then the building of the new world order is in many ways similar to previous godless orders, " noted the Metropolitan.      According to Metropolitan Amphilohije, most surprising is the fact that those people whose ancestors struggled against Hitler " s tyranny and violence, particularly in Montenegro, are currently struggling to become cogs in the tyrannical and godless machine of NATO. Fifteen years ago, NATO barbarically bombed Serbia and Montenegro and as a result the civilian peaceful population mostly became victims.
