International conference " Syria: path to peace " in Geneva Geneva, June 13, 2013 On June 7, 2013, the second conference " Syria: the path to peace " took place in Geneva, as part of the 23rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, reports Sedmitza.ru . The representative of Patriarch of Antioch and all the East John X, Bishop Isaac of Apameia, the UN high commissioner on human rights Navanethem Pillay, the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church at the World Council of Churches and international organizations in Geneva, Archpriest Michael Gundiaev, and other public and religious figures and diplomats took part in the meeting. One of the conference " s organizers was the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society that was represented in the forum by the IOPS deputy chairman E.A. Agapova. The President of the Historical Perspective Foundation and a member of the IOPS council N.A. Narochnitskaya took part in the event. The message of the grand Mufti of Syria Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, who for safety reasons could not be present at the event, was read aloud at the conference. The message relayed information about cruel violence perpetrated by militants against the peaceful population, about the destruction of churches and mosques by them. The Mufti called upon the UN Human Rights Council to be unbiased and impartial towards events happening in Syria. Bishop Isaac of Apameia devoted his speech to the situation of Christians in Syria. He expressed the deep concern about their exodus from their native land, named cases of kidnapping of clergy, acts of vandalism, and destruction of Christian Shrines. He especially noted the positive role of Russia in overcoming of the crisis. The hierarch stressed that Christians feel that they are an integral part of the Syrian society. In his speech, Archpriest Michael Gundiaev stated that Syria is gradually losing its unique model of peaceful coexistence between Christians and Moslems based on mutual respect. He also expressed a special concern about the destiny of the two missing hierarchs: Metropolitan Paul of Aleppo and Metropolitan Mar Gregory Johanna Ibrahim, who were kidnapped by militants near Aleppo on April 22, 2013. The following decision was made at the conference: to send an appeal to the UN Human Rights Council that would express deep concern over the kidnapping of clergy, and contain a call to the UN to make every effort to ensure the prompt and successful release of the Syrian Metropolitans from captivity. All the delegates agreed that a peaceful settlement must be carried out on the basis of the Geneva communique through the Syrian national dialogue, which will result in the resolution of the problem by Syrians themselves, and create an atmosphere wherein all residents of Syria can feel safe, regardless of their ethnic and religious background or political views. 17 июня 2013 г. ... (См.: The Record of the presbyterian church in the U. S. of America, for June 1869. The Foreign Missionary. June 1869. New York.)

Archive Patriarch Kirill meets with Portuguese ambassador to Russia 5 June 2018 year 17:20 On June 5, 2018, His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, met with Portugal ambassador to Russia Pauly Viseu Pineiro.  They were joined in their talk by Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), vice-chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relation. Addressing the ambassador, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church noted, ‘Portugal is loved in Russia. As my compatriots are aware of its rich culture and remarkable history they have a great interest in this country. One can say that we live on opposite borders of the European continent: we in the extreme west while we in the east. Nevertheless, people find some similarities in the mentalities and psychology between the Russians and the Portuguese people. In the life of the both nations, an important role is played by religious tradition’. During the talk His Holiness also mentioned the dozens of thousands of people in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova who reside on Portugal today. ‘They are Orthodox and it is remarkable that in Portugal today there are fourteen parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in which people can receive spiritual support’, he said. His Holiness told his guest about his meeting in Havana with the Head of the Roman Catholic Church to which most Portuguese people belong. ‘Pope Francis of Rome and I had an opportunity to express together our concern for the situation of Christians in the Middle East and generally in the modern world. The defense of Christian values and the Christian presence in the world, especially in the regions where Christians are subjected to danger, is our common goal and common task’, he stressed. Patriarch Kirill expressed the opinion that Christian communities in Russia and Portugal can play a positive role in strengthening spiritual and cultural relations. ‘You certainly know that in Russia there is a great interest in Portuguese culture and in Portugal there is an interest in Russian culture. And cultural exchange is a very important factor in the development of relations between our peoples and countries’, His Holiness said and expressed the hope that the presence of Mr. Pauly Viseu Pineiro as head of the Portuguese diplomatic mission will help develop good relations between Russia and Portugal. Mr. Pauly Viseu Pineiro said in response, ‘Your Holiness, I have come to you with an absolutely clear intention to assure you of my respect as ambassador of Portugal to the Russian Federation and to ask for your blessing upon the fulfilment of my mission in this country’. He mentioned that 19 years ago he had the honour of meeting and exchanging opinions with His Holiness Patriarch Kirill when he was chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations. They also discussed a wide range of issues of mutual concern. DECR Communication Service /Patriarchia.ru Календарь ← 7 December 2023 year

Archive Metropolitan Hilarion celebrated Divine Liturgy at the church of the Elevation of the Cross in Geneva 3 June 2019 year 11:12 On June 2, 2019, the 6 th  Sunday after Pascha, the Blind Man, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the church of the Elevation of the Cross in Geneva, Switzerland, the cathedral church of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia diocese of Western Europe.  His Eminence was assisted by Bishop Alexander of Vevey, vicar of the diocese Western Europe; Archpriest Pavel Tsvetkov, the church’s ecclesiarch; Archpriest Peter Perekrestov, ecclesiarch of the Cathedral of our Lady the Joy for All the Afflicted in San Francisco; and Hieromonk Ioann (Kopeikin), pro-rector for development, Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies (CMI). In the church, there was a shrine with a part of the relics and belt of St. John, Archbishop of Shanghai the Wonderworker of San-Francisco. The shrine had been brought to Swiss parishes with a blessing of Archbishop Kirill of San Francisco and Western America and Bishop Irenaeus of Richmond and Western Europe, on the occasion of the 25 th  anniversary of the glorification of the saint. After the Prayer of Fervent Supplication, Metropolitan Hilarion lifted up a prayer for peace in Ukraine. In his sermon after the service, His Eminence Hilarion conveyed to the congregation a blessing from His Holiness Kirill, Patriarchate of Moscow and All Russia. Then he spoke about the Gospel’s story about the healing of a man born blind, stressing that the Lord healed the blind man not only physically but also spiritually, bringing him to faith in Christ not just as man but as God Incarnate. “Every Gospel’s story speaks of Jesus Christ as God”, His Eminence said, “And He continues to live in our midst, with us and in us, for when we partake of the Holy Communion, the Lord Jesus Christ comes to dwell in us entering into our human essence”. Speaking about the difference between Christianity and other religions, he said that the difference between the life of a Christian and that of a non-believer is the same as the life of a blind one and a sighted one. “Externally, everything in our life as Christians seems to be similar to the life of other people, but inwardly our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ makes us aware of the meaning of our life and all that happens in it”. His Eminence concluded his sermon with the traditional exclamation “Christ is Risen!” Then Bishop Alexander of Vevey greeted Metropolitan Hilarion and presented him with an Icon of All Saints in memory of the common prayer and a leaflet about the restoration of the church of the Elevation of the Cross. Monument to Pushkin, rejected in Estonia, to be installed in Greece Moscow, May 28, 2014 A bust of Alexander Pushkin by Stanislav Nechvolodov was set to be installed in Tartu, but the Estonian authorities prohibited it. Now it will be installed in Delphi, where a memorial park to great literary figures of the world will be opened, reports AgionOros.ru . The monument to the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin will be installed on the Parnassus in Delphi, Greece. Its opening is scheduled for June 6, the poet’s birthday, when the Day of Russian language is celebrated, reported author Oleg Volovik, speaking at the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Athens at an evening dedicated to the heritage of Sts. Cyril and Methodius. The monument was evacuated from Estonia after the local authorities had “outlawed Pushkin”, and it eventually ended up on Mount Parnassus where Apollo and the Muses dwelled, and where lived the winged horse Pegasus—a symbol of poetic inspiration and eloquence. Parnassus is mentioned in many works of Pushkin. “The monument to Pushkin became unwanted in Estonia several years ago; the Estonian authorities did not grant permission to erect it. I would like to stress that this was the work of several bureaucrats—not of the Estonian people nor the residents of Tartu from which we evacuated the monument,” Volovik said. He is the chairman of the International Federation of Russian-speaking Writers, on whose initiative several monuments to outstanding compatriots were installed all over the world. There was a plan to install the monument to Pushkin on the territory of the University of Tartu in 1999 when the 200th anniversary of the poet’s birth was celebrated. “We decided that this monument should stand on the slopes of the Mount Parnassus in Greece, in the town of Delphi. Work is now being carried out in Delphi, and with the help of our Greek friends we will place Pushkin on Parnassus. The opening will take place on June 6—the great poet’s birthday and the Day of Russian Language, and we are inviting everyone to the festive event,” Volovik announced. The monument to Pushkin in Delphi will be open in the memorial park of great literary figures of the world, related Volovik in his interview with RIA-Novosti . The bust to Pushkin by Stanislav Nechvolodov will be set up near the world-famous sanctuary in Delphi, in a little pine grove. 31 мая 2014 г.
