What is one to make of these accounts? If nothing else, for now, one can acknowledge the special place that Matushka Olga has had in the lives of certain native people and a growing number of contemporary women. But it is in the slow and gradually expanding process of knowledge which moves from local veneration to broader awareness that God reveals how He can be " wonderful in His saints. " Matushka Olga was herself a midwife and may have also known from personal experience the traumas of being abused earlier in her life. Perhaps it is in this role as an advocate for those who have been abused, particularly sexually, that God will continue to use Matushka Olga in drawing " straight with crooked lines, " His work of " creating beauty from complete desolation and nothingness. His theology and influence fell into nigh-obscurity from the late sixteenth century practically until the twentieth century, and today there is still disagreement within the Orthodox Church over how to understand his theology and interactions with his opponents, as well as continued debate from outside the Church. Second Sunday of Lent, St. Gregory Palamas Archbishop Andrei (Rymarenko) Second Sunday of Lent, St. Gregory Palamas Archbishop Andrei (Rymarenko) The triumph of Orthodoxy always starts in a person’s heart, and only afterwards is it expressed externally. True, sometimes there are cases when the external attracts the heart, as if waking it up. But for this to happen, there must be something in the heart, which makes such an awakening possible. God demands our heart. To serve God without heart, Orthodoxy without heart—this is the same as a man without heart. Комментарии © 1999-2016 Православие.Ru

Sermon on the Feast of the Three Hierarchs Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) Sermon on the Feast of the Three Hierarchs Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) There is much in common among the three hierarchs and great ecumenical teachers whom we commemorate today: Saints Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom. All three lived in a time when the Christian Church, after almost three centuries of persecution, received freedom and was flourishing throughout the Byzantine ‘oikoumene’. All the three were involved in contesting contemporary heresies. All the three combined serving the Church in episcopal rank with literary activity, and it is precisely their literary legacy which secured for them the paramount place that they occupy in Christian Tradition. All the three were victims of ecclesiastical intrigues. Their posthumous glory, however, exceeded any expectations their contemporaries might have had, and their significance for the entire Christian Church in East and West cannot be overestimated. The Church is in such desperate need of people like Fr Peter to bring us Truth when our own hierarchs are dragging us into an abyss with their heretical ecumenism. Of course the Church has always suffered being battered by enemies from within - in the former times it was the valiant minority - saints like Athanasios the Great and Mark of Ephesus who defended the purity of Dogma. As concerns the Protestants, here there absolutely is no regenerating grace of the Holy Spirit in its wondrous manifestations, for Protestantism does not have the mystery of Chrismation, in which is granted to us the grace-filled strength to become new creatures in Christ. However, we must not only rejoice that we are children of the Orthodox Church, receiving from it this great grace; but we must unveil this grace in our lives, unto its wondrous manifestations. And this will come to pass only when we will steadily fulfill all the Divine commandments. Therefore let the words of Apostle Paul, heard by us in the Liturgy today, awaken in us not only a feeling of joy, but also the desire to realize this in our lives. Then the grace of the Holy Spirit will teach us the salvific, chaste, and holy life, and to us will be fully suitable the words of the apostle Paul: For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world (Tit. 2:11-12). Why can " t the Pope see this? Thank God for true Orthodox hierarchs like Patriarch Ilya. And thanks for the article, Jesse. Ad Orientem 6 октября 2016, 01:00 AXIOS! Jesse Dominick 5 октября 2016, 11:00 When man fell the fallen mode of reproduction came into play. Those conceived by the fallen mode inherit the fallen mode of being, thus the Theotokos, conceived in the usual manner, received the fallen state of human nature, whereas Christ, conceived virginally, that is, in the unfallen manner, received the unfallen state of human nature. This is all clear in St. Maximus the Confessor, and others. As for a universal and infallible jurisdiction of the Pope -- well, we all know that Church history simply doesn " t bear that out, as is obvious from the Catholic Church " s own notion of doctrinal development, which we reject. Jesse Dominick 5 октября 2016, 11:00 Linus, it can be legitimately said in an Orthodox manner that the Spirit proceeds from the Father THROUGH the Son, as was laid down at the Council of Blacharnae in 1285. The saints you have mentioned lived several centuries beforehand and understandably may have spoken less precisely. A good book to check out would be " Crisis in Byzantium " by Aristeides Papadakis, in which he demonstrates that Patriarch Gregory II and others were aware of Patristic texts that sometimes seemingly taught a double procession, but when placed in proper context, they " re meaning is not that which was laid down at Lyons of a double procession as from one principle. As for the Theotokos - no doubt God was preparing a lineage to bring her forth. St. Gregory Palamas talks a good bit about this. Also, St. John of Damascus, in his Exact Exposition, speaks of her being foreordained, proclaimed in diverse images, etc, but he also speaks of her striving after holiness and becoming the home of all virtue whilst living in the Temple -- nowhere does he proclaim that she had been freed from the taint of original sin. Jesse Dominick 5 октября 2016, 11:00 Matthew, the translation of the Patriarch " s words were sent by a friend in Georgia, translating from this article on interpressnews.ge: You can at least run it through some online translators and see that the translation is accurate.

P. Antonio Arganda 27 апреля 2017, 03:30 Met. Hilarion is of the school of thought that Roman sacraments are " valid " . The differences between the Orthodox and the R.C.s are reduced to differences of opinion. He believes that Roman sacraments are completely valid. The ecclesial theology of St. Hilarion Troitsky is completely ignored as are the thoughts of many Orthodox canonists. It should be remembered that the Frankish heresy did not adopt baptism by infusion until 1311. Anthony 5 октября 2016, 16:38 @ Jesse Dominick - apologies, my comment was wrongly framed - I meant to say the article compares St Seraphim and pseudo Saint Francis, and shows just how disparate their spirituality is, in other words encouraging people to read it to see and understand the differences. Jesse Dominick 5 октября 2016, 11:55 Anthony, to be clear, the article comparing St. Seraphim and Francis of Assisi is in no way favorable to Francis. Anthony 4 октября 2016, 20:22 As a Greek Cypriot whose own home Church is spiralling into freefall heretical ecumenism and communion with the heretics, and as one who is now under Moscow, I find this extremely disappointing. Comparisons have been made in articles such as the one that appears above these comments, between St Seraphim of Sarov, and the prelest riddled, hapless pseudo- " " saint " " francis of assisi. And now someone from the ROC is giving a part of these holy relics to heretics. For what? Has 75 years of enslavement to godlessness not taught these people anything. Look at the spiritual state of Russia prior to the revolution. It " s this exact dabbling with heresy that brings the wrath of God. What a disgrace. Fr. Peter Olsen 4 октября 2016, 17:12 On the Russian Orthodox calendar we celebrate the transfer of the relics of St. Nicholas to Bari, Italy in 1087. Note that this was after the schism, and the relics were actually stolen by Venetians. The relics were put in the church of St. Stephen, I " m sure a church that still commemorated the Pope. The circumstances surrounding this were certainly different than gifting relics to the pope, but I always found it odd that it was God " s will that relics of an Orthodox saint should be transferred to heretics, and that it would even be celebrated on our church calendar.
