Archive Aid given to people in Syrian city of Maaloula with assistance of Russian Orthodox Church Representation 27 July 2021 year 16:04 On July 26, 2021, a humanitarian aid was conveyed from Russia to people in Maaloula, Syria, with the assistance of the Damascus-Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church.  Dozens of humanitarian actions have been  carried out as part of the work of a delegation that came to a meeting of the coordinating staffs of Russia and Syria for returning refugees and restoring peaceful life in the country ravaged by war. In Maaloula, two tons of foodstuffs from the Russian humanitarian mission were conveyed to needy parishioners of the church of God’s Prophet Elijah with the support of the Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides. All the children who live in Maaloula received gifts from the Russian National Organization of Veterans “Boyevoe Bratstvo” (Combat Brotherhood) including rucksacks with school stationary, Russian matryoshkas and Tula honey cakes. They also received icons of St. Spyridon of Trimythous - a gift from parishioners of the church of the Founding of the Lord’s Sepulcher-in-Uspensky Vrazhek, Moscow.  The Sunday schoolchildren of the church of God’s Prophet Elijah arranged a small concert and sang, among other songs, the Russian song “Katyusha” in Arabic. The rector of the parish, Father Elijah al-Shayeb, thanked the guests for the aid. He also spoke about his church, which was destroyed in a militants’ attack and now is being restored by the faithful.  As Dmitry Sablin, first deputy head of “Boyevoe Bratstvo” noted, “For us, Maaloula with its ruined monasteries and churches, executed Christians for their faith, hijacked nuns, and the miraculously saved children from the monastery’s orphanage is a symbol of what Christians in Syria had to endure. So, it is our duty to help them, support their efforts to restore churches and to preserve the Christian presence in this holy land.  The rector of the church blessed an icon of the Mother of God and gave it as a gift to the Russian delegation. The guests from Moscow also visited the Blessing Summer Camp of the Orthodox Church of Antioch in Maaloula. Now resting in it are about one hundred children from several Sunday schools in Syrian cities. “Boevoye Bratstvo” also gave children a TV set and sporting goods, while representatives of the Krasnodar region conveyed to them foodstuffs, detergents and bedlinen.  A food supply weighing about a half ton was also conveyed to the Patriarchate of Antioch. In the northern church of Rehovot-in-the-Negev (ancient Betomolacha?), of the second half of the fifth century, a crypt was found underneath the bema (figs. 18–20) 163 . The crypt is equipped with two stairways leading in and out of the aisles of the main church, facilitating the approach of worshippers who visited the venerated relics. This phenomenon has already been discussed in the context of the Loca Sancta: the church of Eleona, the church of the Nativity in the days of Justinian, and with some modifications in the Sinai monastery. The small apse and the cavity for the reliquary box are installed directly underneath the main apse of the church. No inscription has hitherto been found that can identify the saint whose relics were installed in the crypt. Several decades after the Muslim conquest, when the Christians left the site of Rehovot and abandoned the church, probably in the late seventh-early eighth centuries they undoubtedly took the precious relics with them. A similar arrangement was discovered at in Horvat Berachot, south of Bethle-hem (figs. 21–23) 164 . The crypt was built, probably in the early sixth century, into a natural cave in which several burials were found. It may well be that these tombs were the reason for installing the crypt here. The crypt was furnished with a beautiful mosaic; no remains of an altar or reliquary box were preserved in the site. An-other church, with a crypt underneath it and two stairways leading to it, was found in Madaba in Jordan (fig. 24) 165 . The church, dedicated to the Prophet Helias (Elijah), and the crypt of St. Elianos are of the late sixth century. Other churches in Israel and Jordan display other variations of veneration of Loca Sancta and relics. These show the important role of the cult of the holy places and holy relics in the development of ecclesiastical architecture in the fourth – seventh centuries. Revival of Orthodoxy in South Sudan South Sudan, January 15, 2015 By grace of God and the blessings of His Beatitude Theodore II, the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Metropolitan Narkissos (Gammoh) of Nubia founded the first missionary center in South Sudan – the newest independent state in the world, a long-suffering nation plagued by civil war for more than 30 years, with little cessation of hostilities. This first missionary center will be named in honor of the glorious Saint Apostle and Evangelist Mark, the founder of the Alexandrian Church. The missionary endeavors will be housed on Mongala, an eastern suburb of the capital Juba, 500 meters from the White Nile.      In his short speech, His Eminence conveyed to the faithful the absolute love and watchful interest of the Patriarch for South Sudan, praised the few Greek, who remained in the area despite all the difficulties and dangers, and wished this day to be the beginning of a lasting peace and unity for South Sudan, so that this wounded people will prosper and advance. Next day, January 11, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated for the first time after 38 years in St. Stylianos church in downtown Juba, by Metropolitan Narkissos of Nubia. A holy excitement and unspeakable joy took over the few Greeks who remained in South Sudan despite the adverse political conditions, while the Bishop prayed that 2015 will be a year of peace and bring reconciliation and unity among the people. Before the dismissal, the bishop blessed and distributed a Saint Basil’s pie.      On January 12, the Metropolitan was received by Mr. Moses Telar Cindwt, the country’s Minister of Religious Affairs, to whom he stressed the historical presence and contribution of the Orthodox Church in the region and the will to continue this presence and offer in the future, now that South Sudan is an independent state. In turn, the Minister pledged that the new state will provide every possible assistance to the Orthodox Church to achieve its much-needed mission. Finally, on January 13, the bishop visited Wau, another city of the South, to meet several Orthodox families living there, celebrate the Divine Liturgy in Prophet Elijah church and conduct the baptisms of many children. Wooden Churches in the Russian North British architectural photographer Richard Davies is exhibiting a series of stunningly beautiful images of endangered, centuries-old Wooden Churches in the Russian North at the Museum of Finnish Architecture from March to May. Here’s a selection of the photographs that will be on display. If you can’t make it to Helsinki, be sure to stop by his website for more. Kosmozero, Karelia region, Church of St Alexander Svirsky (1769) Turchasovo, Arkhangel region, Church of the Transfiguration (1781) From the exhibition catalogue: “Old postcards made the English photographer Richard Davies travel to northern Russia in 2002 to find out what was left of the wooden churches depicted in the cards. The churches had been photographed by the Russian artist Ivan Bilibin in 1902–04, and already then the photographer was worried about their condition. Davies followed Bilibin’s footsteps on several travels in successive years. Tulgas, Arkhangel region, Church of St Blaise (18th C) Polya, Karelia region, Church of the Prophet Elijah (18th C) Many churches had been lost and many were threatened by destruction. Still, much was left to celebrate. The integrity between the landscape and the architecture was as striking as before, the simple log cabin construction with extravagant decorations was just as startling, and even in decay these churches had a spiritual presence commanding respect. With his pictures Davies wishes to help preserve this extraordinary cultural heritage.” Rakuly, Arkhangel region, Church of the Resurrection (1766) Podporozhye, Arkhangel region, Church of St Vladimir (1757) “Many churches have been saved by dedicated specialists and enthusiasts, whose untiring work goes on. We hope that the photographs in this exhibition will help raise public awareness of the plight of these wonderful buildings and that more restoration projects will attract the funding they deserve. Imzha, Arkhangel region, Church of the Virgin Hodigitria (1763) Izma, Arkhangel region, Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour (1679) During our travels, the story of the hardships of the last century has been unavoidably felt – a story of Revolution, War, Communism and severe Northern winters. The photographs also tell of the lives of resilient people who have lived through extreme times in extreme places – a story of the Russian North.” Matilda Moreton, Richard Davies London August 2007 Arkinet 18 февраля 2011 г. ... Road accident in the Khabarovsk region: a seriously injured priest helped rescue many passengers; 84-year-old survivor baptized Khabarovsk (a port in Eastern Russia near the Chinese border), August 7, 2015      Secretary of the Amur Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, Dean of the Cathedral of the Holy Prophet Elijah in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Igumen Tikhon (Tyuryumin) was seriously injured in the road accident that occurred on the Khabarovsk-Komsomolsk motorway on August 5. After the accident, Fr. Tikhon was taken to the Clinical Hospital No. 1 of Khabarovsk. According to the doctors, his condition is serious and he is currently in the intensive care unit, reports the Pravostok.ru portal. According to eyewitnesses, at the scene of the accident Fr. Tikhon, with serious injuries (multiple rib fractures, hemathorax, a penetrating wound of the left eye, multiple contusions and abrasions on torso and extremities), nevertheless helped evacuate the injured passengers from the severely damaged buses. On August 7 the clergy of the Khabarovsk Diocese visited the crash survivors at Clinical Hospital No. 1 of Khabarovsk in order to perform holy sacraments. On that day, 84-year-old Maria Ivanovna in the traumatic surgery department was baptized by Hieromonk Innocent (Mitin). In spite of her poor condition (she could hardly sit up on her bed), Maria Ivanovna rejoiced at her Baptism and was grateful for the kind attention.      According to the woman, “a bearded man” helped her get out of the bus after that terrible accident – it was Fr. Tikhon (Tyutyurin) from the Amur Diocese. On that day a lady named Elena with her 6-year-old daughter Anastasia were given Holy Communion. Elena lost a close friend in that crash, while little Anastasia was not injured at all. “It was because I was wearing a cross,” said Anastasia, addressing her mother. “I will never take it off again. And you, please, always wear it too.” 10 августа 2015 г. Смотри также Комментарии Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку
