It is Monophysite. The Roman pontiff did not have the authority to militarily interfere in the business of another Diocese. It was illegal and anti-Canonical. And I have read it said that Bishop Stigand was a victim of historical smear in order to justify Papal invasion. God knows the truth. But the fact remains that the Roman pontiff had no business interfering in another Diocese. Moreover it was military invasion which was completely anti-Canonical and illegal. seba 6 ноября 2013, 20:00 I " d love to see English Orthodox Church one day, there is British Orthodox Church tho, but very small. Desiderius 11 августа 2013, 00:00 Your article is very good but I must take exception with one point of bias which dissapointed me. That is exception is the comment of the " papally-sponsored Norman Invasion " . It seems it that the invasion was endorsed because of the Archbishop of Canterbury Stigand leading the Church astray. Stigand was a notorious simoniac (simony is the buying and selling of clerical and ecclesiastical offices.) archbishop who had been consecrated by an anti-pope. " Stigand - He was named Bishop of Elmham in 1043, and was later Bishop of Winchester and Archbishop of Canterbury. Stigand was as an advisor to several members of the Anglo-Saxon and Norman English royal dynasties, serving six successive kings. Excommunicated by several popes for his pluralism in holding the two sees, or bishoprics, of Winchester and Canterbury concurrently, he was finally deposed in 1070, and his estates and personal wealth were confiscated by William the Conqueror. Stigand was imprisoned at Winchester, where he died without regaining his liberty. " As Orthodox christians let us remain unbiased and neither overemphasis problems with the papacy, nor deny that it has done a great deal of good in the world, as any Patriarch or Metrpolitan Archbishop ought to.

Now if man is hardly able to pray pure prayer what must be said of spiritual prayer? The holy Fathers ) are accustomed to designate all profitable emotions and all spiritual working by the name of prayer. And the blessed commentator ) even counts beautiful deeds as prayer; though it is clear that prayer is different from deeds which are things done. But sometimes they designate ) by spiritual prayer that which they sometimes call ) 102 contemplation; and sometimes knowledge; and sometimes revelations of intelligible things. Doest thou see, how the Fathers change ) their designations of spiritual things? This is because accurate designations can only be established concerning earthly things. The things of the world-to-be do not possess a true name, but only simple cognition, which is exalted above all names and signs and forms and colours and habits and composite denominations. When, therefore, the knowledge of the soul exalts itself above this circle of visible things, the Fathers use

Archive Metropolitan Hilarion: “Christians in Europe are feeling themselves to be a discriminated against minority” 22 November 2020 year 20:18 “For many years the leaderships of the countries of Europe have been combatting so-called Islamophobia and antisemitism, while at the same time they forget that for along time now in Europe there is such a thing as Christianophobia, and that the passing over in silence of the Christian tradition, the ignoring of Christian symbols is what European Union citizens repeatedly run up against at the present,” said the chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate the metropolitan of Volokolamsk Hilarion. He was commenting on the case highlighted by the media in Sweden when a child during a photo session was required by the photographer to remove his cross since, the child was told, the presence of a religious symbol on his breast “may offend the other schoolchildren.” Metropolitan Hilarion noted that the incident in Sweden was far from an isolated one. “This has become almost the dominant trend in modern-day Europe,” stated the DECR chairman. “That is, Europe is consciously rejecting its Christian roots, consciously passes over in silence its Christian past and present, and Christians in Europe are now feeling themselves to be a discriminated against minority.” An eloquent illustration to this situation was the drafting of the Constitution of Europe which was unsuccessfully drawn up at the beginning of the 2000s, the metropolitan noted. “In the published draft it was stated that Europe was the inheritor of the Greco-Roman tradition, but not a single word was said of Christianity. This, of course, created great indignation among Christians throughout all of Europe as Christianity is an integral part of the European identity. All you have to do is to go to any European city and look at the architecture to see how many Christian churches there are and realize how important Christianity is and was for the past for the continent of Europe.” “So, when we hear that crucifixes are removed from school classrooms and assembly halls, that schoolchildren are forced to remove their crosses in order not to shock Muslims (although why would they be shocked at a Christian wearing a cross?), all of this evokes within my memory recollections of our comparatively recent past when teachers tore crosses off schoolchildren at a time when atheist ideology and atheist propaganda dominated Russia,” the metropolitan emphasized. “I hope very much that Europe does not go as far as this and repeat those same mistakes which we in Russia paid for so dearly,” the metropolitan said in conclusion. Archive Oratorio dedicated to Andrei Rublev is performed in Vatican 22 January 2019 year 17:45 On 20 January 2019, a concert dedicated to Andrei Rublev was performed at the Basilica of St. John Lateran being timed to the 30 th  anniversary of the canonization of the great Russian iconographer.  The concert in honour of the saint canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church was performed for the first time in the history of the Roman Catholic Church. The Moscow Synodal Choir, the Choir of the Roman diocese and the Fideles et Amati symphonic orchestra performed the Smotrenje Lo Squardo Oratorio by Monsignor Marco Frisina who acted as a conductor. At the beginning of the concert, the Moscow Synodal Choir conducted by its artistic director Alexei Puzakov, the honoured artist of Russia, and by Mikhail Kotelnikov, artistic director of the Youth Synodal Choir, performed “The Cherubic Hyman” and “In Thy Kingdom” composed by Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk. The idea of this performance belongs to Monsignor Marco Frizina and was supported by the Moscow Department of Culture, the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Vatican City State and the Pontifical Lateran University. “The Russian side considers the joint performance of the contemporary Italian music dedicated to the Russian iconographer very important. In Rublev’s creative work we find such traditional Christian values as love and mutual understanding,” Alexei Puzakov said. Commenting on the event, H.E. Aleksandr Avdeyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Vatican City State, underlined its importance, saying that it was a sign of good relations between the RF and the Holy See. The Moscow Synodal Choir performs in Rome for the fourth time. In 2014, 2015 and 2016 it performed musical pieces of the Western and Eastern Christian traditions together with the Sistine Chapel Choir at the Sistine Chapel in Vatican, at the at the Papal Basilica of St. Peter, the Cathedral of St. John Lateran and the Basilica of S. Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs. DECR Communication Service /Patriarchia.ru Календарь ← 7 April 2024 year

Holy Trinity Seminary Announces a New Publishing Endeavor Jordanville, NY, May 26, 2015 The publishing work of Holy Trinity Monastery is expanding into the academic field with the creation of a new imprint. Under the editorship of Dr Vitaly Permiakov, Holy Trinity Seminary Press will publish studies relating to the theology, history, and liturgy of the Orthodox Church. Liturgical texts and guidance for the spiritual life will continue to be the mainstays of Holy Trinity Publications’ flagship imprint, the Printshop of St Job of Pochaev. Archimandrite Luke, abbot of Holy Trinity Monastery and seminary rector, commented on the new project: “Our mandate has always been to publish books for the spiritual edification of the faithful and for the conversion of the world around us. Now we seek to expand this mission to include works that elucidate the Church " s Tradition in a scholarly manner. These books will both support our task of educating the next generation of Orthodox priests and address the growing challenges of an increasingly secularized academia.” Assistant to the dean Priest Ephraim Willmarth sees a lack of traditional and patristic textbooks available for seminary courses in the English language. He hopes that the new seminary press “will have a significant impact on theological education in our seminary classrooms, in distance education, for those educating themselves, and in other seminaries.” Towards this aim, HTSP will release Archbishop Averky’s The Four Gospels, the first volume in his series, Commentary on the Holy Scriptures of the New Testament. Writing in the tradition of biblical exegetes such as St John Chrysostom and Blessed Theophylact of Bulgaria, Vladyka Averky allows the reader to see the life of Christ as an unfolding narrative in accessible, direct language. This translation will be an indispensable addition to the library of every student of the Gospels. The first title released under the new imprint will be Chosen for His People: A Biography of Patriarch Tikhon by Jane Swan. Ninety years after St Tikhon’s repose, Dr Swan’s modest but carefully crafted monograph remains the only complete biography of this holy confessor available in English. This new edition has been updated and revised in light of newly discovered sources. 27 мая 2015 г. Смотри также Комментарии Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку

Greek liberals are displeased with bringing of relics of St. Barbara to the country Athens, May 13, 2015      An influx of a great multitude of faithful to the holy relics of Greatmartyr Barbara has produced an immense impression on the Greek secular media. The journalists call the number of those willing to venerate the relics “unprecedented” and they are trying to explain the reasons for this phenomenon. The relics of Greatmartyr Barbara are permanently kept at the Basilica of St. Mark (San Marco Cattedrale) in Venice and have arrived on the territory of an Orthodox country for the first time in 1000 years, reports AgionOros.ru.      The relics were received in Greece with state honors. This circumstance as well as a multitude of the faithful flocking to the relics have provoked a negative reaction among the Greek liberals. They are also displeased with the plans to bring the relics to a number of Greek hospitals. “It upsets them that a huge amount of people are flocking to the relics. They should understand they have failed to uproot the faith from the hearts of Greeks and will never succeed in it,” stressed Metropolitan Makarios of Sidirokastro. Commenting on the outrageous statement of N. Phylis, member of the ruling Syriza party, who described what is going on as “a relics trade”, the metropolitan said: “Had he taken the liberty of saying similar things to Muslims, he would simply have been killed. It is inadmissible to insult the Orthodox faith, established on the sacred bones of our forebears.”      The To Potami (“the River”) Greek liberal pro-European party has made harshly anti-Orthodox statements. The party leader, Stavros Theodorakis, earlier already made critical remarks about bringing the Holy Fire to Greece; and now, once again, he has ventured to comment with much irony on the visit of the St. Barbara’s relics to the state. In her turn, spokeswoman for the Independent Greeks party (which joined the government coalition led by Syriza in January this year) Marina Chrysoveloni has commented on the statement by the To Potami leader. She has expressed her indignation at the behavior of the politician who, On the one hand, is defending the rights of the Muslim minorities, and, on the other hand, “is ridiculing the Orthodox faith: this position is based on the destructive pseudo-progressive policy and national nihilism”. 14 мая 2015 г. Eritrea: Security campaign bridging the wider gap between Muslims and Christians Khartoum, September 21, 2014 The Commander of the Eritrean Police Force, Col. Mehari Tsegai Eritrean scholars are still continue to agitate for the implementation of the constitution, the release of political prisoners, journalists, religious groups that are languishing in prison camps without any due process of the law. Professor Araya Debessay and Professor Kiflai were trying for the last three decades to foster better understanding between Eritrea’s Christian minority and the Eritrea’s Muslim majority in the country, not the Diaspora. In Eritrea Christians make up about 32 percent of Eritrea’s 8 million approximately , but the secular Orthodox Christian government of Isyas Afwerki ensures they are well represented in government and have access to the major and important jobs in Eritrea. “Many Eritrean Muslim feel very bad about what they see as the oppression of the current leadership of security, police and military – its empowering christian cultural and financial pressure as well as Afwerki’s long-term power strategy to undermine Muslim refugees in Sudan and Gulf-States. So there’s a situation of tension.” Because of regional tension and Briding the gap, the Commander of the Eritrean Police Force, Col. Mehari Tsegai, has called on religious leaders to play active role in nurturing and keeping intact the nation’s cultural values. He made the call at a meeting conducted in the Central region’s administration Hall in which over 150 religious leaders took part. Col. Mehari explained that the meeting is aimed at nurturing a law-abiding society and the supremacy of the rule of law. Moreover, he called on the religious leaders to enhance role towards upgrading the awareness of the faithful as regards prevention of crime instances. The dominance of Tigrinya speaking Christians and their involvement in the various sectors of community-based, organizational activities representing Eritreans in Los Angeles, if not throughout the United States, make it appear as though Eritrea is a homogenous country composed predominantly of Tigrinya-speaking Christians (Woldemikael 1996; Hepner 2003). Accordingly, the Government is exerting persistent efforts pertaining to the prevalence of peace and stability, Col. Mehari elaborated. He also stated that promotional activities in progress have borne commendable outcome. The Commander further urged communities to step up collaboration with the Police Force regarding crime prevention. The participants of the meeting expressed satisfaction with the initiative, and expressed readiness to sustain input towards the realization of the set objectives. 22 сентября 2014 г. Archive Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk: actions of a politician must not come into conflict with his religious convictions 12 April 2021 year 11:18 The discussion of the question whether President Joe Biden could be allowed to take communion because he supports abortion has deeply divided American Catholics of different political views. Answering the question of the host of the program “The Church and the World,” if similar discussions take place in the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, referred to the differences between Russian and American history. He pointed out that “before 1917 all Russian rulers had been Orthodox but afterwards up to the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union, the leaders of our country had been atheists, and militant atheists for the most part – in other words, they had been persecutors of the Church. So such question would not even come up. “ Metropolitan Hilarion underlined that the Russian Orthodox Church does not share the view according to which politicians may promote anti-religious views and be religious believers at the same time. “I believe that there are many Catholics in the United States, and not only Catholics, who see a problem in this serious controversy between the religious faith to which Joe Biden claims to belong and the values he is advocating,” the hierarch said. The DECR chairman mentioned, among other things, the position of the well-known American religious leader Franklin Graham, head of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Commenting on the scandalous answer of Joe Biden who, when asked by a journalist whether he believes Mr. Putin is a “killer”, responded: ‘I do,’ Rev. Graham noted that these words have offended millions of the Russian people and added that the US President Biden, while claiming to be a Christian, supports abortion, whereas abortion, in God’s eyes, is a murder. It is the killing of the innocent. “I think that such a controversy is very noticeable and provokes questions and indignation of people,” Metropolitan Hilarion said. In his opinion, the fact that a part of American Catholics, including bishops, deem it possible to allow a politician speaking in favour of abortion to take communion can be explained by “a very tolerant attitude to various fields of vision in the USA and by an opinion according to which a man can profess any kind of views while belonging to any religious confession.” DECR Communication Service /Patriarchia.ru Календарь ← 7 April 2024 year
