It is therefore likely that the author of our text simply failed to mention the Gospel reading. See the analysis below. 58  Until the 11 th century, this litany preceded the Trisagion; only a few 11 th century manuscripts witness its transposition to the earlier point in the liturgy, which became normative in the 12 th –13 th centuries (Juan Mateos, La célébration de la Parole dans la liturgie byzantine. Étude historique (OCA 191, Roma: Pont. Institutum Studiorum Orientalium, 1971), 30). 61  Despite Afanasyeva, the contents of the treatise cannot be described as «a struggle between the angels, who are taking part in the liturgy and who help the priest to celebrate, and the devil, who tries to frighten the believers and to obstruct the celebration» (Afanasyeva, Old Slavonic Interpretations... 63). A story of such a struggle is indeed known, but from a different liturgical commentary, which is found in some late South Slavonic manuscripts, ascribed to St. Ephrem (Mirkovich, «Angels and Demons...»; Ivanova, «The Sermon of St. Basil the Great and of Father Ephraim...»), and which is interrelated to the late reworkings of Pseudo-Gregory’s treatise. But in the pristine redaction of the treatise, as well as in its oldest Russian translation, the devil is depicted as defeated from the very beginning of the liturgy (§ 6). However, §§ 16–17 describe a suspicious man «with sharp teeth like arrows and bloodshot eyes», possibly an allusion to the appearance of the devil. But the only function of this man is to try to expel «those standing in the church», and he by no means obstructs the celebration itself. Therefore, Afanasyeva’s generalisation is surprising. 63  See Michael Asmus, «Concerning the Question of Consecration of Commemorative Particles During the Divine Liturgy» [original title in Russian: Асмус М., «К вопросу об освящении поминальных частиц за Божественной литургией " ], in Вестник ПСТГУ I: Богословие. His life in seclusion followed a classic monastic model: prayer, study, manual labor. For the first ten years he served liturgy on Saturdays and Sundays, and for the last twelve he did so every day. He sent out between twenty and forty letters a day in response to people seeking his spiritual advice. His ever-expanding library contained several encyclopedias in various languages, Migne’s Patrologia, Russian editions of the fathers of the church, books of the liturgical cycle, many theological journals, commentaries on Scripture, and such like. He wrote continuously, authoring more than fifty books by the end of his life: commentaries on Scripture, manuals on Christian life and prayer in particular, meditations on various subjects, theological treatises, and collections of letters of spiritual direction. In addition, he translated two volumes of Symeon the New Theologian, the Unseen Warfare in the version of Nicodemus the Hagiorite, as well as texts of the major ascetic writers, included in his five-volume Philokalia, which was supplemented by a volume including the monastic rules of Pachomius, Basil of Caesarea, John Cassian, and Benedict of Nursia. In the last years of his life, Theophan suffered from a number of ailments, including blindness in one eye. He died on the Feast of Theophany, January 6, 1894. Having become one of the most popular and influential spiritual writers of the Russian Orthodox Church in the 19th and 20th centuries, he was canonized in 1988. Krishnaites are project of Indian government, their book contains extremism, Russian Justice Ministry expert believes Moscow, March 2, 2012 Head of the Expert Council for State Religious Expertise under the Russian Justice Ministry Alexander Dvorkin believes Bhagavad Gita As It Is with the commentary written by the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness Swami Prabhupada is an extremist book. " The main idea of the PR-campaign launched by Krishna followers and their allies is that the great monument of ancient Indian literature, holy book of Hinduism Bhagavad Gita, is under trial and the world classic can be banned. But it " s a lie, " Dvorkin, who is also a renowned expert on sects told Interfax-Religion last Thursday. As was reported, the Leninsky District Court late in December last year rejected the Tomsk Prosecutor " s appeal to recognize the holy for Krishnaites Bhagavad Gita As It Is with Prabhupada " s commentaries an extremist book. The process in Tomsk caused protests from Indian politicians and public. The theme of " prosecutions against Hindus in Russia " became top news in leading Indian media. The interviewee of the agency said that all claims of the Prosecutor Office referred to Prabhupada " s commentaries as, for example, " they contain rude and insulting statements about people belonging to other religions. " " There is sex discrimination, there are indications that a person shouldn " t be a patriot since a person who loves his Motherland and children is similar to pig, camel, donkey and so on. Children are considered a " by-products of the body, " and thus equated with defecations. Such quotations can take several pages, " he said. Dvorkin also notes that the Society for Krishna Consciousness does not belong to traditional Hinduism as it is impossible to become a Hindu--you can only born in the caste. Hinduism is unthinkable without caste system. He noted that the Communal Bharatiya Janata Party first came to power in India in the 1990-s; its ideology was based on religious nationalism, and it offered a version of neo-Hinduism. They were the first to exploit the idea of " guru on export. " " Communalists understood that gurus who go to Western countries and their newly converted adepts play rather important political role, can be agents of influence, and bring real income. As all these gurus then come back to India, many Western people who fell in their nets come after them to see them, to live beside them and certainly bring their money with them, " the expert said. According to him, though Communalists are not in power, the Indian National Congress, which replaced them, " realized that gurus on export is a profitable thing, and started supporting pseudo-Hinduism projects in the West. Сети богословия Тема недели: Почитание мощей в православии Статья Статья Статья Статья Статья Статья Статья Статья Статья Статья Мнение Мнение Статья Статья Статья Новые материалы 1 января Christians angry as Saudi Grand Mufti calls for churches to be destroyed 19 марта 2012 15:01 – 1 января 1970 03:00 События Christians across the Middle East are expressing anger and frustration after the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia said it is “necessary to destroy all the churches of the region.” In Cairo and Beirut, the anger was loudest, but also through their calls were gestures of tolerance. “I mean from a regular, end of the street mosque, this stuff happens all the time, but for the Grand Mufti of a country to say it is simply shocking,” Beirut resident Hani told Bikyamasr.com. The mufti’s statements had followed Kuwait’s move to ban churches from being constructed in the country. Ironically, the Saudi religious leader’s comments come only months after Saudi Arabia partnered with Switzerland on an institute of tolerance. At the time, many observers called the move “unsubstantiated” in reference to Saudi’s ultra-conservative Islamic views. Speaking to a delegation in Kuwait, Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah, stressed that since the tiny Gulf state was a part of the Arabian Peninsula, it was necessary to destroy all of the churches in the country, Arabic media have reported. Saudi Arabia’s top cleric made the comment in view of an age-old belief that only Islam can be practiced in the region. According to religious scholars, however, even during the Prophet Mohamed’s time, Christians and Jews were allowed to practice their faith openly and freely. Christians in Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan largely have open access to churches and places to pray, although regulations in Egypt have been condemned by Christian leaders and activists. “What we see with this is the turn toward ultra conservatism in the region,” said Egyptian Coptic Christian Noha, adding that “what we need to do now is bring together people and show this mufti that us Christians and Muslims can live and share the same street. And that it is a right granted by Islam for others to pray in their own place.”

Ankara upset at Vatican for pope’s remarks on mass killings of Armenians AFP Photo/Filippo Monteforte Turkey has reacted angrily to the Vatican following a statement from Pope Francis describing the mass killings of Armenians during World War I as “the first genocide of the twentieth century” during a meeting with a delegation led by Patriarch of Cilicia of Armenian Catholics on June 3. “The Turkish Foreign Ministry delivered Turkey’s views on the issue and expressed disappointment to the embassy in Ankara and Vatican in Rome,” a Turkish diplomat told the Hürriyet Daily News on June 7. Pope Francis described the mass killings of Armenians during World War I as “the first genocide of the 20th century” during a meeting with a delegation led by Patriarch of Cilicia of Armenian Catholics on June 3. The pope met with members of the delegation and when one of them said that she was a descendant of genocide victims, he replied, “The first genocide of the 20th Century was that of the Armenians,” reiterating his earlier recognition of the mass killings as “Armenian Genocide” while he was the head of the Catholic Church in Buenos Aires as a cardinal. In 2006, during events marking the 91st anniversary of the killings in Buenos Aires, he had urged Turkey to recognize “the genocide” as the “gravest crime of Ottoman Turkey against the Armenian people and the entire humanity.” Commenting on the issue, Armenian Apostolic Church Diocese of Gougark Bishop Sebouh Chuljyan Primate said, “The pope is speaking out a historical truth. Turkey needs to see the pains and should face the genocide,” he told the Hürriyet Daily News, adding that the archives of the Vatican may be opened to investigate the issue further. The director of the Armenian National Committee of South America, Alfonso Tabakian, explained that this was the first such statement from the pontiff since being elevated to pope and leader of the Roman Catholic Church. Tabakian called the statement “very important since his words transcend any state or religion,” according to the Armenian weekly website. Hurriyet Daily News 11 июня 2013 г. ... Archive Metropolitan Anthony of Borispol and Brovary: a ‘neo-Orthodoxy’ alien to the faith of the Church is being created now 11 August 2021 year 13:28 Metropolitan Anthony of Borispol and Brovary, chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, stated that it is especially important for the Orthodox Ukrainian to preserve faithfulness to the true faith now that attempts are made to introduce to the Church’s doctrine some innovations alien to it.  The church situation in Ukraine is not only a problem of the survival of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, but also a catalyst of the situation throughout the world when attempts are made to impose a ‘neo-Orthodoxy’ on the Church, he said in his comment to the ‘Pershyi Nezalezhniy’ (First Independent) Ukrainian TV news channel. According to His Eminence, faithfulness to the Orthodox faith has always helped Ukrainians to preserve their identity, but now the situation in the entire Orthodox world is dependent on this faithfulness. “Today, we see in the Orthodox world a tendency to substitute the principles of canon law, life of discipline and even the faith in order to shift key points”, he said, “And I would even say that what is being created is a certain ‘neo-Orthodoxy’, a compete novel to the Orthodox Church. Therefore, for Orthodox Ukraine it is now a matter of survival not only for us as Orthodox people in Ukraine - we are now generally a catalyst of the situation in the Orthodox world”.  Many are looking at Ukraine, at how the church situation will develop, he said. “Most of our people, thank God, are faithful to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and they testify to this by ‘their feet’ because people come to church; thousands and hundreds of thousands come to processions with the cross. It is a testimony [to the support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church] contrary to commissioned public opinion polls artificially created with the aim to convince our society that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is numerically decreasing, that we have no supporters”.  According to Metropolitan Anthony, the church, divine service, procession with the cross - all this testify to the true situation in Ukrainian Orthodoxy; for most Ukrainians are parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Based on his oversight in the Church of England, the Archbishop of Canterbury became the original sign of the unity of the bishops and local churches of the Anglican Communion - all 34 provinces in communion with See of Canterbury, a total of about 80 million members throughout the world which has developed over the last 200 years or so. He is the focus and spokesman of its unity today, but shares his oversight as president of the Communion with other bodies. In the last two areas of dialogue and activity - Ecumenical relationships between Christian Churches, and Inter Religious relationships between different traditional world religions - the Archbishop has no formal authority. But his role in England and the UK, and his leadership in the Communion at large, give him significant influence and the responsibility to speak authoritatively for the faith and witness of the Church, the Anglican Church in particular. Outline of procedures for the appointment of an Archbishop of Canterbury Since 2007 the agreed convention in relation to episcopal appointments has been that the Prime Minister commends the name preferred by the Commission to the Queen. The second name is identified in case, for whatever reason, there is a change of circumstances which means that the appointment of the CNC’s recommended candidate cannot proceed. Once the Queen has approved the chosen candidate and he has indicated a willingness to serve, 10 Downing St announces the name of the Archbishop-designate. The College of Canons of Canterbury Cathedral formally elect the new Archbishop of Canterbury. The election is confirmed by a commission of diocesan bishops in a legal ceremony (the Confirmation of Election), which confers the office of Archbishop on him. The new Archbishop does homage to Her Majesty. He is formally enthroned in Canterbury Cathedral. anglicancommunion.org Другие публикации на портале: © 2007-2024 Портал Богослов.Ru.
