Patriarch Kirill greets 5th International Russian-Georgian Poetry Festival Moscow June 6, 2011 The 5 th International Russian-Georgian Poetry Festival is held from June 6-15, 2011, in the Georgian cities of Batumi, Poti, Kutaisi and Tbilisi. About 100 authors from over 30 countries attend. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has sent following message of greetings to the organizers, participants and guests of the festival: Dear Brothers and Sisters, I cordially greet the poets, people of letters and all the guests of the 5 th International Russian-Georgian Poetry Festival. Holy Fathers of the Church would present the most sublime theology in the form of verses and the greatest of poets would praise the Creator in their works, admiring His creation. The human soul has always sought to embody things good, beautiful and eternal in the word, and poetry as the art that gives the fullest expression to the potential of language offers a master a multitude of resources for expressing the subtlest tinges of emotions. Sharing their permanent love of the human word and devout desire to serve the Word of God, the great Russian and Georgian cultures have given the world literature a whole pleiad of remarkable poets and artists of the thought. Now you as posterity of Pushkin and Rustaveli, Lermontov and Baratashvili, are to continue these glorious traditions in a worthy way. United by the faith of Christ, our peoples are tied by the bonds of spiritual brotherhood which cannot be broken by any hardships, troubles or trials, for there is no more solid foundation for friendship than common prayer and love of the truly beautiful. It is my conviction that in this unity of the spirit lies out authentic history and our future. Invoking God’s blessing on you all, I wish the participants and guests of the festival fortitude and further successful creative achievements. + Kirill Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia DECR Communications Services 7 июня 2011 г. ... Saint Ambrosi the Confessor, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia (†1927) Archpriest Zakaria Machitadze Saint Ambrosi the Confessor, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia (†1927) Archpriest Zakaria Machitadze In response to one of the Bolshevik interrogations, the patriarch asserted, “Confession of Faith is a spiritual necessity for every nation — persecution increases its necessity. Faith deepens, being contracted and accumulated, and it bursts out with new energy. So it was in the past, and so it will be in our country. Georgia is no exception to this universal law.” St. Ambrosi spoke these remarkable last words to his persecutors: “My soul belongs to God, my heart to my motherland, and with my flesh you may do whatever you wish.” The court sentenced the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia to seven years, nine months and twenty-eight days in prison. The Lives of the Georgian Saints Archpriest Zakaria Machitadze The Lives of the Georgian Saints Archpriest Zakaria Machitadze Since the time of the ancient Greek historians, Georgia has been viewed as an enigma hidden behind impenetrable mountains and a complex language. Little has been written about this small country and its saints. Now, Pravoslavie.Ru presents the entire collection of the Lives of the Georgian saints which has been translated for the first time into English. These lives encompass the seventeen hundred years of Orthodox Christianity in Georgia. The stories of ascetics and bishops, warriors and noblemen are intertwined with the tumultuous history of the Georgian land. Venerable Hieromartyr Gabriel the Lesser (†1802) Archpriest Zakaria Machitadze Venerable Hieromartyr Gabriel the Lesser (†1802) Archpriest Zakaria Machitadze Saint Gabriel the Lesser was a major figure in the eighteenth- century Georgian Church. Few details of his life are known, but it is evident that the education he received was quite good for the period. Striving toward the monastic life but still living in the world, Gabriel tried in every way to close himself off from the vanity of the world. He kept a small sewing shop in Tbilisi and distributed most of his profits to the poor. Подпишитесь на рассылку Православие.Ru Рассылка выходит два раза в неделю:

Tweet Поделиться Georgia celebrates its national holiday—St. George " s (Giorgob) Day Tbilisi, November 24, 2014 On November 23 the Georgian Orthodox Church celebrated the St. George’s (Giorgob) Day. Great Martyr George the Victory-Bearer is venerated as patron-saint of the Georgian people and is particularly loved in Georgia, reports Gruzia Online .      On this day His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia celebrated a festal service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral.      The Georgian president and prime minister were present at the service. They came to the cathedral together with their families.      The day before it was reported that on the occasion of St. George’s Day, Georgian president Georgy Margvelashvili had granted presidential pardons to 121 convicts. According to the presidential order, 93 prisoners were to be released on that day, and punishment was mitigated for 28 more convicts. In addition to this, the prison sentence was reduced by half to one felon convict. There were three women and three minors among those pardoned. In Georgia, St. George the Victory-Bearer is commemorated twice a year: on November 23 (the Breaking on the Wheel of Holy Greatmartyr George) and May 6 (the Beheading of St. George). “Faith is getting stronger,” said spokesman Irakli Kadagishvili. “The patriarch is seen not only as a religious figure, but also as a national authority. When he saw the need to increase the birth rate he only had to provide an incentive. It was the only stimulus most parents needed if they were already thinking about having more children.” Lamara Georgadze, whose fourth child was recently baptized by Patriarch Ilia II, said she and her husband answered the patriarch’s call to have more children. “The Holy Father reminded us all of the importance of increasing the birth rate,” she said in an AP report that described the 400 baptisms presided over by Patriarch Ilia II in a Tbilisi cathedral on May 6. “There are too few of us Georgians and therefore this is very important.” “This is a wonderful day for my family,” said Tamar Kapanadze, a 33-year-old father of four. “Our fourth son, Lashko, was baptized by the patriarch himself, and before this he baptized our daughter Liziko. This is why we decided to have a fourth child.” The Georgian government announced earlier this year that parents would be given a one-time payment of 1000 Georgian Lari (about for a third child and double that amount for a fourth child. “This will help raise the birth rate,” Saakashvili said. “The patriarch has already taken steps in this direction. We should be thankful to him for continually reminding the Georgian people that we should multiply.” Government statistics indicate that the number of abortions has also declined by nearly 50 percent between 2005 and 2010. The office of canonization of Schema-Archbishop Anthony (Abashidze; +1942) as a locally venerated saint was performed during the divine service. Archbishop Alexander read out the decision of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of 14 June 2011 (minutes 21) to enter the name of Schema-Archbishop Anthony into church calendar. Archbishop Antoniy of Borispol told all those present about the life of the saint. His icon was brought to the middle of the church, and His Beatitude, archpastors, clergymen and laymen venerated the relics of the newly canonized saint, reports the website of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Schema-Archbishop Anthony (secular name David Iliych Abashidze) was born in Georgia in 1847. He graduated with distinction from the Law Department of the Novorossiysk Imperial University in Odessa in 1891 and that same year entered the theological academy. He was tonsured with the name of Dimitry at the age of twenty-four. In 1897 he was appointed inspector of the Kutaisi theological seminary, and in 1898 – inspector of the Tbilisi theological seminary. It was he who expelled Joseph Dzhugashvili, better known as Stalin, from the seminary. Bishop Dimitry was appointed Bishop of Tauris and Simferopol in 1912.  When he was in Moscow for the Local Council of 1917-18, he would walk along the streets with his first-aid kit and give help to those wounded in the battle for Moscow. Bishop Dimitry was arrested and exiled from the Crimea in 1923 and settled in the Kitayevsky Hermitage which belonged to the Lavra of the Caves in Kiev and was located some nine kilometers from it. He made a vow of silence and took the Great Schema with the name of Anthony. He was revered as a great ascetic, a man of prayer and clairvoyant elder. Orthodox Christians from Russia, Ukraine, Belarussia and Georgia came to him for advice. He died in 1942 and was buried behind the sanctuary wall of the Church of the Elevation of the Cross at the entrance to the Near Caves. mospat.ru Другие публикации на портале:

Georgian Patriarchate asks to provide security to human rights activist from LGBT community Source: Interfax-Religion Tbilisi, February 8, 2016      The Georgian Patriarchate has asked the interior minister to provide security to citizen Giorgi Tatishvili, a representative of the LGBT community who campaigns for their rights, who has filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court seeking the legalization of same-sex marriage. " As we know, most of our people (regardless of nationality and faith) feel negatively about this law. For this reason, there is a threat that certain forces will use this situation for provocation and the life of Giorgi Tatishvili may be in danger, " the patriarchate said in a statement. The statement says that, despite the fact that the Georgian Orthodox Church " condemns and considers this step (let alone the adoption of a law) to be unacceptable, violence and, naturally, manifestations of violence in its gravest form are also unacceptable. " " For this reason, we are asking the interior minister to take this fact into account and provide Giorgi Tatishvili with security in a timely manner, " the statement says. According to reports released in late January, a lawyer for Giorgi Tatishvili told reporters he had filed a lawsuit with the Georgian Constitutional Court seeking the legalization of same-sex marriage in the republic. In his lawsuit, he demands the invalidation of the provision of the Georgian Civil Code that provides that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. He said the definition of a family should be changed to a union between a man and a man, a woman and a woman, and a man and a woman. The lawyer said he had filed the lawsuit with the Constitutional Court as a private individual, not as a representative of some organization. There was active debate on this issue in the Georgian media in 2015. Zurab Jornenadze, the head of the Georgian NGO Rights for Everyone, said last summer that the association agreement signed by Georgia with the EU envisaged official recognition of same-sex marriage in the country. Irakly Garibashvili, who was then prime minister, then told reporters that " there will be no same-sex marriage in Georgia and family is a union between a man and a woman.
