| DECR staff members take part in congress organized by International Council for Central and Eastern European Studies August 13, 2015 On 7-10 August 2015, an international meeting of Old Believers took place in Ulan-Ude, marking the 250th anniversary of the arrival in Buryatia of the first Old-Rite settlers. As part of the meeting called “The Path of Avvakum”, a number of events were held, such as an International Research and Application Conference “The Old Belief: History and Modernity, Local Traditions, Relations Inside Russia and Abroad” and an ethnic forum “The Old Believers’ Congress.” On August 7, an opening plenary session took place at the premises of the Government of the Republic of Buryatia. Among the speakers were Mr. Vyachslav Nagovitsyn, head of the Republic of Buryatia; Metropolitan Savvaty of Ulan-Ude and Buryatia; Metropolitan Korniliy of Moscow and All Russia (Russian Orthodox Old-Rite Church); Archbishop Alexander of Moscow and All Russia (Russian Old Orthodox Church); and Dagba Ochirov, Did Hambo Lama of the Republic of Buryatia (Buddhist Traditional Sangha of Russia). On August 8, the ethnic forum was held at the National Library. As part of the forum, a meeting of the Old-Rite clergy took place. Among those who took an active part in the discussions was archpriest Ioann Mirolyubov, head of the Patriarchal Center for Old Russian Liturgical Tradition, secretary of the Commission for Old Rite Parishes and Cooperation with the Old Rite Community. Next day, he delivered an address on the Old-Rite Parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church and Problems of Their Formation. | Archive The Moscow Synodal Choir gives a concert as part of the Patriarchal International Festival of Church Music ‘The Light of Christ’ 11 November 2021 year 11:28 With a blessing of His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, the annual Light of Christ Patriarchal International Festival of Church Music has been held since 2021. The musical event is held with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives in implementing projects in the sphere of culture, art and creative industries and the Russian Federation Ministry of Culture. The Moscow Synodal Choir in one of the participants in this festival. The festival is co-organized by the Russian Culture Foundation, the Patriarchal Church-Society Council for developing Russian church music and the Academy of Choral Culture Foundation. On November 9, the Moscow Synodal Choir and the Voce Anima Orchestra gave a concert as part of the festival. The conductors were Russia’s Honoured Artist Alexy Puzakov and Mikhail Kotelnikov. The musical event was held in one of the best concert halls in today’s Moscow - the Council Chamber, a historical building of the Moscow Diocesan House. In the first part of the concert, the choir performed compositions by eminent musicians who maintain close cooperation with the Moscow Synodal Choir and entrust the choir with performing their best works and premiere compositions, namely, Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev), Andrey Mikita, and Anton Viskov. The listeners heard His Eminence Hilarion’s compositions “Praise the Name of the Lord”, “Great Doxology”, “In Thy Kingdom”, “To Thee we sing”; Andrey Mikita’s hymn “The Master’s Pilgrimage”, Anton Viskov’s “Lord, have mercy” and “The Most Holy Theotokos”. Soloists: Alena Kuznechikova, Anastasia Zubkova and Anastasia Artamonova. In the second part of the musical evening, the unique cantata by young composer Mikhail Kotelnikov “Octoich” composed for soloists, a mixed choir, an orchestra and drums was performed. It was composed in 2021. It is intended to be of eight parts according to the number of tones in the conventional system of church octoich singing. The idea to compose such a cantata came to the author at the time of the 250th anniversary of the first Church Slavonic edition of Octoich, which came out in Moscow in 1772. | Archive DECR representative takes part in interreligious forum at the Pubic Chamber of the Russian Federation 23 December 2022 year 15:38 On December 22, 2022, a research and practice conference on “Islam – an integral part of religious heritage of Russia: 1100th anniversary of Volga Bulgaria’s conversion to Islam” took place at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. The conference was organized by the Commission of the RF Public Chamber for Harmonization of Interethnic and Interreligious Relations and the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia. Mufti Albir Hazrat Krganov, head of the Assembly and vice-chairman of the Commission acted as moderator. Taking part in the conference were representatives of the state, public, charitable and nonprofit organizations, academic and educational community, experts, and religious and public figures. Welcoming remarks were delivered by Mr. Konstantin Blazhenov, deputy chairman of the Department for national politics and interregional relations of Moscow and head of the administration for relations with religious organizations, and by Mr. Danis Shakirov, chairman of the Executive Committee of the World Congress of Tatars. With the blessing of Metropolitan Antony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, taking part in the conference was Rev. Dimitry Safonov, DECR secretary for interreligious relations. In his presentation he told the audience about the experience of cooperation with Islamic communities and organizations, for instance, with the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia, in the work with migrants and collecting and delivering humanitarian aid to the Syria and Donbass residents, and also about activities of the Interreligious Working Group for Protecting Believers’ Rights against Discrimination and Xenophobia.
