On the contrary, their attitude was based on a pastoral and pedagogical concern that those who had deviated should become aware of their error and be led to the correct faith, which is the indispensable prerequisite for salvation. He who speaks the truth has love, even if he causes distress at the outset and creates a reaction, not he who misleads and conceals the truth, taking account of temporary human relations and not of eternal realities. May God Give You Wisdom! The Letters of Fr. John Krestiankin. Letters to Monks and Nuns. Part 1 Archimandrite John (Krestiankin) May God Give You Wisdom! The Letters of Fr. John Krestiankin. Letters to Monks and Nuns. Part 1 Batiushka, how is it that you do not hear God’s will for you, spoken by the head of the Church: “It means you’ll have to remain here!” It is all the more valuable having been pronounced without any judgment from one or another interested party. You correctly thought at that moment that the question was resolved. But then … then egoism and self-will began their underground work. While His Holiness [the Patriarch] repeatedly confirms what he said according to inspiration: “It’s better for you to stay here.” The Letters of Fr. John Krestiankin The Letters of Fr. John Krestiankin A year has passed since the repose of Russia’s righteous elder, Archimandrite John Krestiankin of the Pskov-Caves Monastery. But his memory has far from faded; to the contrary, it is spreading far beyond the Russian borders, his writings being translated into other languages. Pravoslavie.ru (English edition) is therefore pleased to present each week day excerpts from the forthcoming book May God Give You Wisdom! The Letters of Fr. John Krestiankin (published by Sretensky Monastery and St. Xenia Skete). May our readers find in them answers to perplexities, sober instruction, and deep Christian wisdom, coming from a true elder and confessor of the Faith. May God Give You Wisdom! The Letters of Fr. John Krestiankin. Letters to Clergymen,To Those Desiring the Priestly Rank, and to Priests’ Wives. Part 2 Archimandrite John (Krestiankin) May God Give You Wisdom! The Letters of Fr. John Krestiankin. Letters to Clergymen,To Those Desiring the Priestly Rank, and to Priests’ Wives. Part 2 God’s strength is made perfect in weakness; I have seen this in actuality all my life, and we are only strong in God’s strength. As Holy Hierarch Benjamim of Petrograd said on the threshold of death, we need to abandon learnedness and mind, and arm ourselves with faith. We need faith! Robert M. Bowman Jr., J. Ed Komoszewski The central theological distinctive of Christianity--that Jesus is God incarnate--has repeatedly come under fire from adherents to other religions and scholars who interpret Jesus as a prophet, angel, or guru. Putting Jesus in His Place is designed to introduce Christians to the wealth of biblical teaching on the deity of Christ. Using evidence from the New Testament, this book helps readers appreciate the significance of Christ " s deity in a personal relationship with Him, and gives them the confidence to share the truth about Jesus with others. The book is divided into five sections, each corresponding to an aspect of the New Testament " s revelation of Jesus as God, and using an acronym based on the letters in the word HANDS: H-Honors (Jesus shares the honors that are due God) A-Attributes (Jesus shares the attributes of God) N-Names (Jesus shares the names of God) D-Deeds (Jesus shares the deeds that God does) S-Seat (Jesus shares the seat of God " s eternal throne) Putting Jesus in His Place engages objections to the divine identity of Jesus Christ from Jehovah " s Witnesses, Mormons, Muslims, Unitarians, and other religious perspectives. Its emphasis throughout, however, is on the positive case for the deity of Christ. The book introduces the reader to cutting-edge scholarship on New Testament Christology and makes the information accessible and usable for those who are not biblical scholars or theologians. Endorsed by an impressive lineup of leading specialists in the field including Martin Hengel, Richard Bauckham, I. Howard Marshall, Craig A. Evans, Daniel B. Wallace, Murray J. Harris, and Larry Hurtado, Putting Jesus in His Place is an indispensable introduction and reference on the New Testament teaching about the identity of Jesus Christ. Archive Representatives of Moscow Patriarchate take part in the meeting with President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue 1 December 2021 year 10:59 On November 26, 2021, the “Pokrovskie Vorota” Cultural Center in Moscow hosted a thematic meeting on “The Relevance of Interreligious Dialogue.” Cardinal Miguel Ángel Ayuso Guixot, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and Prefect of the Commission for Religious Relations with Muslims, spoke at the meeting. The Moscow Patriarchate was represented by hieromonk Grigory (Matrusov), chairman of the Patriarchal Experts’ Council for cooperation with the Islamic world; and D.I.Menyailov of the DECR secretariat for interreligious relations. Taking part in the meeting on the part of the Roman Catholic Church were Archbishop Paolo Pezzi, Ordinary of the Archdiocese of the Mother of God in Moscow; Mons. Lucio Sembrano of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue; and Mons. Peter Tarnavsky, Apostolic Nunciature adviser.  At the beginning of the meeting Cardinal Guixot recalled how the idea of interreligious dialogue emerged in the Roman Catholic Church and pointed out the major landmarks of the development of dialogue since the 1960s. Pope Paul VI instituted a Council for Interreligious Dialogue and issued the Nostra Aetate Declaration. Pope John Paul II set up a Committee for Relations with Islamic World within the Council for Interreligious Dialogue and organized a meeting in Assisi. Pope Benedict XVI used to devote due attention to interreligious dialogue and speak about the necessity for establishing contacts with other faiths with respect to their identity, but in full awareness of our own identity.  Cardinal Guixot told the participants about his vision of interreligious dialogue: it should not be about disagreements and contradictions, but be based on the “rich diversities” and on striving to do good which all traditional religions proclaim. “Such dialogue is far from proselytizing, but is based on openness and mutual respect. Religious variety could be likened to different notes or various voices which together create music.” At the end of Cardinal Guixot’s presentation the participants had an opportunity to ask him a few questions.    The meeting at the “Pokrovskie Vorota” Cultural Centre was held in the framework of Cardinal Guixot’s visit to Moscow during which he had talks with Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations. Finally, it must be said that Fr. Daniel emphatically rejected any notion in the organization of missions that any particular local group should be targeted to the express exclusion of others. Thus, he had extreme contempt for those who would say things like “[f]irst convert your own people then go for others.” 25 If he began to have success with a particular group, he would do all he could to facilitate conversions, such as when he began to hold certain services in the Tatar language in response to the many Tatars who had converted in his parish or when he began to hold special services for college students who were anxious about finals. However, he would never have seen the outreach of his church community as restrictively focused on any specific group or groups. To discriminate by age, ethnicity, or social class was utterly abhorrent to him. It was the duty of a Christian community, ultimately, to “witness to all” to the best of its ability. 26 As the life (and death) of Fr. Daniel himself has shown, such witness requires determination, intentionality, organization, and a martyr’s courage.
