Archive Archbishop Theodosius of Sebastia: We demand to stop systematic persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by Kiev authorities 28 March 2023 year 16:24 On March 27, 2023, Archbishop during his meeting with a church delegation in Jerusalem: “We resolutely condemn the systematic harassment and persecutions against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church organized by the Kiev authorities, who, as we know, are implementing western programs hostile to the entire Orthodox Church. These programs run contrary to her values and mission and threaten her very existence.” The publication about this meeting quotes the Archbishop as saying: ‘We consider the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as the persecution of the entire Church, since at the moment there remains a threat of evicting bishops, priests and monks from the Lavra in Kiev, this ancient historical monument well-known as one of the largest monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.” “The Ukrainian Orthodox Church headed by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry is subjected to systematic hostile campaigns with many threats and assaults,” Archbishop Theodosius noted, pointing out that “her message has always been to preserve love, brotherhood and peace.” Archbishop Theodosius underscored: “We demand urgent actions from the entire Orthodox community for stopping these severe persecutions. His Beatitude Onufry is a holy man of God. He visited us in Jerusalem several times. He is notable for his particular humility, spirituality and wisdom. He is being guided by these principles now, at the darkest hour and under the most difficult circumstances in the historical monuments of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. We express our support to all religious leaders who have spoken about the necessity of putting an end to the persecution of the UOC.” The hierarch expressed his hope that such statements “would become a strong deterrent for the Kiev authorities whose actions towards the Ukrainian Orthodox Church are hostile and who resort to incitement, thus carrying out the instructions of their masters.” He continued to say: “We state that we do not recognize legitimacy of any other organization created in Ukraine to replace the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church and call on the entire Christian and civilized world to exert all possible efforts to stop systematic persecution of the UOC.” Archbishop Theodosius of Sebastia has warned against the danger of violation that the authorities could use for the eviction of monks from their monasteries, scetes, and churches. Bishop Longin, other church officials break ground on new St. Sava cemetery Source: Chicago Tribune November 14, 2016 The cemetery site north of the Merrillville church will be used by Orthodox Church members of all ethnicities, with the first of three phases holding 2,100 grave sites. Photo: http://www.chicagotribune.com/      With prayer and a special blessing, clergy and church members broke ground Saturday on a new cemetery at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Merrillville, which will serve Orthodox Church members of all ethnic groups. A solemn procession led by His Grace Bishop Longin and priests from several Orthodox parishes in Indiana and Illinois brought church members from St. Sava church building north to the site where the cemetery will be built. Ground was broken with gold-colored shovels, and the dirt blessed before it was placed around a cross marking the location of the first grave site. " It " s a beautiful project. It keeps us all together, " said the Rev. Marko Matic, parish priest of St. Sava, which has about 380 members. " It will be an Orthodox cemetery, allowing our parishioners to be buried with all the Orthodox customs and traditions. " Of special significance, he said, was that the ceremony took place on St. Varnava (Nastic) Day, marking the day the Gary native was consecrated a saint. " He was the first child baptized at St. Sava when it was in Gary. Today is his day, " Matic said. The Rev. Bogan Zjalic, assistant priest at St. Sava, said a committee began working on bringing an Orthodox cemetery to the site five years ago because so many parishioners requested one. Previously, many church members traveled as far as Gurnee, Ill., or New Carlisle, Ind., to bury loved ones in an Orthodox cemetery, he said. About 40 acres owned by St. Sava in the 9100 block of Mississippi Street have been earmarked for the cemetery, with another 80 acres available if needed. The new cemetery has had support from Russian, Greek, Romanian and Ukrainian Orthodox churches in Illinois and Indiana, Zjalic said. Church member Radmila Milivojevic said the cemetery is not only important for members of the Serbian church, but for all ethnicities of the Orthodox Church. Three phases are planned, with 2,100 grave sites in the first phase, church president Danica Pejnovic said. Planting grass and the remainder of the asphalt work needed for the first phase will be done in spring, officials said. Chicago Tribune 14 ноября 2016 г. Archive The Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s community at Mikhalcha village marks two years of its prayer vigil for their church 10 February 2021 year 12:09 On February 8, 2021, the Day of the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church, the community of the church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God at the Mikhalcha village, Storozhynets district, Chernovtsy Region, Ukraine, marked the 2nd anniversary of its prayer vigil for its right to remain in the canonical Church, the Union of Orthodox Journalists reports with reference to the press service of the Diocese of Chernovtsy and Bukovina. That day, the parishioners of the church of the Holy Dormition together with their rector prayed at the Divine Liturgy. According to the faithful of the Diocese of Chernovtsy, it was the feat of the new martyrs that inspired them to stand up for their faith. As the diocese’s people noted, during these two years the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at the Mikhalcha village had to endure mockery and abuse from representatives of ‘the Orthodox Church of Ukraine’. The church of the Holy Dormition was subjected to outrage: in 2019, the OCU supporters rammed the old door of the church; in 2020, about one hundred young people in masks (some armed with knuckle-dusters) unsealed the vestibule doors in an attempt to get into the church of the Dormition. The capture of churches belonging to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by schismatics continues. Thus, on February 6, 2021, supporters of ‘the Orthodox Church of Ukraine’ cut off the locks of the church of St. Sergius of Radonezh at the Galinovka village, Vladimir-Volynsky district, Volyn Region, and actually seized it. It is reported by the website of the diocese of Vladimir-Volynsky of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The whole process was video-recorded. As was reported earlier, for two days on February 3 and 4, 2021, the OCU representatives led by their ‘priest’ picketed the state administration of Volyn Region in Ukraine, demanding the registration of documents that would make it possible for a schismatic organization to come into possession of the church of St. Sergius at the Galinovka village, which belongs to the religious community of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Under the pressure and threats from the schismatics, their statute was registered by the regional state administration (RSA) executives. Archive The metropolitan of Cherkasy and Kaniv Theodosius: The Ukrainian Orthodox Church preaches peace and unity 22 December 2021 year 10:09 The metropolitan of Cherkasy and Kaniv Theodosius, a bishop of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, in an interview with the A Bishop’s Word TV programme on the UkrLive TV channel, emphasized the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is the only institution in the country which has retained its borders inviolate. “The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is the Church of Christ here on the territory of our state, of our people of Ukraine,” said metropolitan Theodosius. The hierarch noted that the Church, while unable to speak openly of the wrongness of many doctrines propounded by politicians and officials for their own advantage, can nevertheless speak about peace and can even make connections where none may be found. “Within our parishes, within our monasteries, we never divide people politically or by the way they view the world,” said metropolitan Theodosius. “To the present day the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is the only institution within Ukraine that has retained its boundaries without any losses: the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is to be found in the Donbas, in Crimea, in the Chernihiv region and in western Ukraine.” According to the metropolitan, throughout the territory of all of Ukraine the parishes of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and its monasteries and, correspondingly, its faithful preserve peace and unity. “Ukraine as it was has remained within the boundaries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This is not simply demagogy and just talk, but the reality,” the bishop emphasized. The metropolitan of Cherkasy and Kaniv Theodosius also drew attention to the fact that the peace-making mission of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was the object of criticism fr om some politicians and officials. “The preaching of peace today is not at all welcomed by very many people, and that is why the Church is subjected to pressure and obstruction from those people who hope to cash in dividends from hostility,” said the bishop. “It’s like being in a room of crooked mirrors wh ere everyone says that these crooked mirrors supposedly reflect the reality of what we see. But there is one mirror in which the ugly person will never see himself as attractive … And what are these people, who have become used to crooked mirrors, doing? They try to smash the one normal mirror or hide it away from sight in a cupboard so that it no longer exists. This is more or less how the Ukrainian political establishment and many officials relate today to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.” DECR Communication Service /Patriarchia.ru Календарь ← 7 December 2023 year

Archive Holy Synod considers problems arising in preparations for Pan-Orthodox Council 3 June 2016 year 20:20 During the session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on June 3, 2016, it was noted that in the run-up to the Pan-Orthodox Council, serious problems arose demanding urgent joint Orthodox actions. “The decision that the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church made on June 1, 2016, as well the continued uncertainty as to the possibility for the Patriarchate of Antioch to attend the Holy and Great Council, just as the absence of preliminary consensus on the draft Working Procedure of the Council and the document “The Sacrament of Marriage and Impediments to It” mean that at the present moment when only two weeks remain before the planned date of the opening of the Council, there are serious problems demanding urgent joint Orthodox actions”, the Holy Synod’s resolution states. The Holy Synod adopted the Russian Orthodox Church’s amendments to the draft documents on “The Relations of the Orthodox Church with the Rest Christian World” and ‘The Mission of the Orthodox Church in Today’s World”. The amendments were formulated on the basis of judgements voiced by hierarchs, clergy, monastics and laity. It is stated in the Synod’s resolutions that as a result of the discussion held by the Orthodox Churches of Georgia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece as well as the Holy Kinot of Holy Mount Athos on the draft documents of the Pan-Orthodox Council, essential amendments were presented, consonant to a great extent with the proposals made by the Russian Orthodox Church, demanding a substantial consideration with the aim to find general Orthodox consensus. The Holy Synod noted that nonparticipation of even a single Church in the Council constitutes an unsurmountable obstacle for the holding of the Holy and Great Council, considering that its decisions can be made only by consensus, as it follows from the provisions of the documents approved by the Synaxis of the Primates of the Local Churches. In accordance with the resolution of the Holy Synod, a way out of the emergency situation could be found in the holding of an extraordinary pre-Council conference to consider the situation and to examine the amendments to the Council’s documents so that agreed proposals may be developed. As a result of this conference, the Holy Synod’s resolution states, a judgement could be made as to the possibility of holding the Pan-Orthodox Council at the planned date. The position of the Russian Orthodox Church Holy Synod will be brought to the notice of the Primates of all the Local Orthodox Churches. Календарь ← 7 December 2023 year

Russian Orthodox Church slams seizure of churches in Ukraine Source: TASS December 22, 2015      The seizure of cathedrals of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate and the manipulation with religious organizations are an attempt of the Ukrainian authorities to draw the church into the political and civil conflict in the country. By doing so, private political tasks will be solved, but Ukraine’s unity will be lost, member of the secretariat for inter-Orthodox relations of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations Deacon Feodor Shulga told a round-table meeting in Russia’s Civic Chamber. " The Ukrainian Orthodox Church (of the Moscow Patriarchate - TASS) is essentially the only unifying factor amidst the present civil conflict, " Shulga said, adding that " for this very reason the Ukrainian Orthodox Church observes strict political neutrality in relation to the conflict. " He noted that " the task of the political forces was to draw the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (of the Moscow Patriarchate - TASS) into the conflict, which already involves in full measure the competing denominations. These are the so-called Russian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate and the so-called Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. " He pointed to two ways of exerting pressure on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, namely, promoting the idea of a unified national church and the seizure of churches. As of the end of 2014, 9 churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions were completely destroyed, 77 others were destroyed partially. This year six more churches suffered. During the conflict three priests were killed, four others were injured and at least eight were subjected to interrogations and beaten. In addition to that, the cathedrals are looted and illegally seized. There are more than 30 examples to this effect. TASS 23 декабря 2015 г.
