Cave churches of Taurica: The problems of typology and chronology Summary Cave churches of the South-Western Crimea attracted scholar’s attention for a long time, still, no attempts have been made to suggest a systematic classification of the monuments. The authors criticize the ideas of Yu.A.Mogarichev and T.A.Bobrovsky and suggest the new typology based on the development of the churches structure taken in its Liturgical aspect, and the way in influenced the architecture. These problems have been sufficiently studied on the materials of ground churches. According to presence or absence of prothesis two classes of churches have been singled out, the classes are subdivided into separate types forming a chronological sequence, contain types being coeval. |
