St. John Chrysostom says concerning this incident: " Such reckless hatred, such evil passion! Let it be so, that you cursed yourselves. But why do you bring a curse on the children? " This curse, which the Jews called upon themselves, was soon fulfilled. In 70 AD, during the siege of Jerusalem, the Romans crucified a huge number of Jews around the city. It was also fulfilled in the later history of the Jews, scattered since then in many countries—in those countless " pogroms, " to which they were subjected, in fulfillment of the prophecies of Moses in Deuteronomy (Chapters 28:49-57; 64-67). Then released he (Pilate) Barabbas unto them; and when he has scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified. In other words, confirming the verdict of the Sanhedrin, Pilate gave them soldiers to carry out the death sentence through crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. Of course, Pilate could not divulge himself of his responsibility by washing his hands neither before the impartial opinion of humanity, nor before God’s judgment. The expression " washing my hands of it " since then has become a saying. In a little more than a year the punishment of God befell Pilate for his cowardice and unjust condemnation of Him, Who he himself called Righteous. He was banished to Gaul and there, after two years, exhausted from melancholy, torn by pangs of conscience and despair, he ended his life by suicide. (In 1961, in the location of ancient Caesarea, a plaque was found with the name of Pilate carved in Latin: " Caesareanis Tiberium Pontius Pilatus Prefectus Iudaeae debit, " that is " : Pontius Pilate, prefect of Judea, gave the inhabitants of Caesaria (this theatre named for) Tiberius). Pilate here is called " prefect, " which applies to a military leader. The title of procurator referred to civil leaders. It is possible that Pilate served in both positions. Jerusalem monastery and Armenian cemetery vandalised/Православие.Ru Jerusalem monastery and Armenian cemetery vandalised AFP Vandals sprayed anti-Christian graffiti on Jerusalem " s Monastery of the Cross and at an Armenian cemetery overnight, police told AFP on Wednesday, in the latest apparent hate crime by Jewish extremists. The attacks drew a strong condemnation from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who expressed " disgust " over the incidents, his office said. Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said graffiti insulting to Jesus Christ was " sprayed on the gates of the entrance of the Armenian cemetery... and on a monastery belonging to the Greek Orthodox. " Outside the Monastery of the Cross near the Israeli parliament, vandals also slashed the tyres of three cars belonging to staff, and wrote " price tag " and " Happy Hanukkah " the Jewish holiday now being observed by Israelis, an AFP correspondent said. Father Claudius, the monastery " s abbot, said he had noticed the graffiti at 4:30 am (0230 GMT) when he got up to pray. " This is the seventh time this has happened, " he told reporters at the scene, saying that if the vandals had simply knocked on the door he would have invited them in for tea to talk to them about his faith. A statement from Netanyahu " s office said the prime minister had expressed " disgust " over the attacks. " The Jewish values by which we were raised, and by which we raise our children, firmly reject such actions, " he said in the statement. " Freedom of worship for all religions in Israel will be preserved and we will take legal action against the immoral people who committed these crimes. " " Price tag " is a euphemism for revenge hate crimes by Israeli extremists, which normally target Palestinians and Arabs. Initially carried out in retaliation for state moves to dismantle unauthorised settler outposts, they have become increasingly unrelated to any specific government measures. The attacks tend to involve the vandalism or destruction of Palestinian property and have included multiple arson attacks on cars, mosques and olive trees.

Archive Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk sums up the Search for Scriptures theological conference 13 November 2021 year 18:26 On November 12, 2021, the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, who is in the USA with a blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and at the invitation of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of All America and Canada, attended the plenary sessions of the academic-theological conference on “Search for Scriptures”, which took place at St. Vladimir’s Seminary in New York. The conference gathered leading American specialists in the New Testament studies, including Professor Emeritus Carl Holladay, Kendler School of Theology, the Emory University; Professor of Biblical Studies Craig Keenner, Asbury Theological Seminary; Professor of New Testament Studies Gregory Sterling, Yale School of Divinity; Professor Emeritus Edit Humphrey, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary; Prof Garwood Anderson, dean of the Nashotah-House Theological Seminary; Mr John Barnet, Associate Professor at the Chair of the New Testament, St. Vladimir’s Seminary; Associate Professor Bruce Beck, the Holy Cross Seminary in Brooklyn, MA; Prof of Religion and Philosophy James Walles, dean of the Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Ten. Each of the scholars who came to St. Vladimir’s Seminary presented a paper. Many speakers pointed to the importance of dialogue between the Orthodox Church and representatives of the contemporary biblical scholarship, which for the most part ignores the patristic tradition of interpreting Holy Scriptures while in Orthodoxy precisely this tradition is considered normative. Summing up the conference, Metropolitan Hilarion noted that the four canonical Gospels are the main and only sources from which information about the life and teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ should be drawn. Neither the apocryphal Gospels, nor any other “alternative sources” can be perceived as containing reliable information about Him. And the most authoritative interpretations of the Gospels is that which has formed within the Church and has been approved by it. At the same time, Orthodox theologians should not ignore the achievements of contemporary Bible studies in those aspects that do not contradict the Orthodox doctrine. Dialogue between representatives of the Orthodox Church and contemporary biblical scholarship is important for the both sides, Metropolitan Hilarion emphasized. Heart as an Epistemological Organ The question dividing Barlaam from the Hesychasts was episte- mological in nature and concerned whether knowledge is the result of inquiry or the result of vision. Barlaam, who later became a Roman Catholic bishop, represented the approach of the analytical subcurrent of later Western theologians, while the Hesychasts were quite comfortably situated within the mys- tical outlook that prevailed throughout the Eastern Church. Gregory Palamas the great champion of Hesychasm, explained: «Our holy faith is a vision of our hearts in a special way because it surpasses all the intelligible capabilities of our soul». There is no contradiction here between understanding through the soul as opposed to understanding through the heart. The heart is seen not as different from the soul, but as the very center of the soul. This formulation, among other teachings of the Hesychasts, may have been what Barlaam had in mind when he attacked as «monstrosities» their «ridiculous doctrines not even worthy of mention by one of sound mind or understanding – products of mistaken doctrines and reckless fantasy». For among their teachings «of certain wondrous disjunctions and reunions of the mind with the soul», he points specifically to their claim of «the union of our Lord with the soul, which occurs perceptibly within the navel and with full conviction of our heart». The idea of union with the divine is typical of both Hesychasm and Sufism. For example, the Sufi Abu Sa’id Abel-Kayr wrote: «Sufism is the heart standing with God, with nothing in between». Nil’s formulation is thus: «Обдержно же имать cie в житльств нашемъ, еже всегда и въ всхъ всякомъ haчuhahiu душею и тломъ, словомъ и длом, и noмышлehieмъ в дл Бoжiu eлiko по сил». And elsewhere Nil alludes to Matt. 23:26 and John 4:23 when he writes: «внутрешняя съсуда научивша очищати, и еже духомъ, рече, и истинною подобаетъ Отцу клянятися» After the Muslim capture of the Alexandrian Academy in 640, Neoplatonic epistemology may have influenced Sufism in its idea that the infant is born with knowledge of God. A Sufi has been described as one who has God in the forefront of the mind at all times, as indicated by internal repetitive saying of the first part of the shahada: «La ilaha illa ‘llah» and in frequently beginning statements with the phrase: «In the name of God» (bismallah). Such constant repetition of a sacred formula, to the point that it becomes subconscious, correlates with the Nil’s understanding of the purpose of the Jesus prayer – that is, to remind us of our closeness to God, not to experience the divine light.

Fr Gregort Tillett 15 ноября 2015, 08:00 I didn’t realize that telling lies was acceptable for Christians. Yet on Pravoslavie.Ru. we read: “Australia Investigating Archbishop for Distributing Pamphlet Defending True Marriage”: http://www.pravoslavie.ru/english/87727.htm Neither “Australia”, nor the Australian Government, nor the government of any Australian State or Territory, is involved in any action in relation to any Bishop, Roman Catholic or Orthodox, in regard to any publication relating to same sex marriage. An individual has initiated a civil action under anti-discrimination law in the State of Tasmania. The Anti-Discrimination Commissioner is administering the action as she is required to so by law. The further statement that “In 2013 the Archbishop faced accusations from the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner that he may be found to have violated state law if he restricted altar serving to boys” is equally dishonest. The Archbishop faced no accusations from the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner. The Commissioner received a complaint and, as required by law, investigated it. However, given that Section 27 of the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 specifically states that discrimination in a religious institution is not unlawful if it is required by the doctrines of the religion of the institution the complaint could not proceed, and the Archbishop could not have been found to have violated state law. pushaa 15 ноября 2015, 07:00 satanic white men! you are doing evil in the name of human right and democracy. Michael 15 ноября 2015, 04:00 I appreciate and applaud when an Orthodox Christian organization goes out of its way to recognize that we share a common struggle with other Christians against forces that are attacking us all regardless of our affiliation. Let " s build on this. Ana Fernandez 15 ноября 2015, 03:00 The laws of God are always overturned, because Jesus " apostles keep accommodating the devil. We need to believe, then preach what we believe, stand up for what we preach and defend the Gospel of the one who told us: " Do not fear those who can only kill the body... " Our clergy must man-up and be as bold as the agents of the devil are. Otherwise, the King will depose the weak servants and give their posts to deserving ones. The Kingdom of God is taken by force (Mt 11:12), not by apologies. Our leaders have remained still while God " s signs are taken down everywhere, because they offend someone. Christianity is over 3 billion strong, counting all its branches. But one person protests and God comes out of that place. Prayers, statues, symbols... In any field, flock is as strong as it " s shepherd. Thank God for Pope Francis, and the saintly Popes we " ve had before him.

Jerusalem Meets Russian Patriarch Kirill Jerusalem, November 10, 2012 The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, who arrived in Jerusalem on Friday, was accompanied by a solemn procession of clerics and laypeople on his way from the Jaffa Gate to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre inside the Old City. Thousands of believers gathered in front of the church, which is the holiest site for Christians across the world, to greet Patriarch Kirill and Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III, who met him. The two patriarchs held a short divine service. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre has for centuries been one of the most important pilgrimage destinations for millions of Christians as the purported site of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Patriarch Theophilos III addressed Patriarch Kirill, for whom it is the first visit to the Holy Land since he was elected to head the Russian Orthodox Church in 2009, with a solemn speech, in which he noted the importance of brotherly relations between the two Orthodox Churches. Patriarch Kirill said each Christian dreams of visiting the Holy Land. “For the first time I have come to the Holy Land to offer prayers on behalf of the entire Russian Church that chose me as its Primate,” the patriarch said, adding that he will in particular pray for peace around the world. During his six-day stay, Patriarch Kirill is expected to visit Christian holy sites in Israel, the Palestinian territories and Jordan. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre earlier in November threatened to close its doors as its bank account was frozen over a debt to an Israeli water company. The church had been exempt from water charges in a tacit agreement with Jerusalem authorities for decades but the Hagihon company, which took over water supply to Jerusalem in the late 1990s, recently demanded payment of a million bill dating back 15 years, including interest. Theophilos III even wrote letters to the leaders of Russia, Israel, the United States, Greece, Cyprus and Jordan with an appeal to intervene with the standoff and put a stop “to this flagrant act against the church.” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the presidential administration will thoroughly study Theophilos " s request for help. The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem shares control of the church with the Armenian Orthodox Patriarchate and the Roman Catholic Franciscan Order through complicated arrangements essentially unchanged for centuries. The site, located within the Christian Quarter of the walled Old City of Jerusalem, attracts more than 1 million pilgrims annually. RIA Novosti 12 ноября 2012 г. ... 2 июля 2012 22 июня 2012 Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia examines the teachings of St Gregory of Sinai (1255-1346) on the Jesus Prayer. Describing both the form of the Prayer and the inward and outward techniques of prayer of the heart, Metropolitan Kallistos also touches upon the question of possible parallels or influences from other religions on the Jesus Prayer in Eastern Christianity. We are left with a clear impression of the extraordinary saint who, with St Gregory Palamas, initiated the renaissance of hesychasm. 27 апреля 2012 Today being the 61st anniversary of the blessed repose of Schema-Archimandrite Ilarion (Udodov; 1862-1951), Bogoslov.Ru is publishing his life, compiled by Fr Vladislav Michin, a priest of the Church of the Deposition of the Venerable Robe of the Theotokos at Blachernae in Leonovo, and translated from the Russian by Yana Larionova.
