Thus the patriarch has urged parents to spend more time with their children, and to attend to their bodily and spiritual needs. “Each of us needs to have a permanent concern for our families and for the future of the Christian family and of the Romanian nation, by rediscovering and living out Christian values in our homes, in the parishes to which we belong, and in the great family of the Church,” reads a statement from the hierarchy of the Romanian Church. In this vein, the Romanian Orthodox Church also, of course, condemns the horror of abortion which is not only murder, but the murder of an innocent and defenseless child. On these days all churches and monasteries of the Crimean Diocese uplifted prayers before the icon of Archbishop Luka for multiplying love and peace on the peninsula. Archbishop Luka (born Valentin Felixovich Voyno-Yasenetsky) was born in Kerch in 1877. After graduation from the higher school he decided that he should be involved only the activities “useful for suffering people,” and chose medicine and later became a priest. He carried out his ministry in Soviet period, so he had to face many hardships, the archbishop went through arrests, trials and spent 11 years in exile. Archbishop Luka was a ruling bishop of Crimea from 1946 to 1961. He received the Stalin reward for his book on surgery in 1946. He died on June 11, 1961, on the Day of All Russian Saints. Relics of Archbishop Luka were found in 1996 and are kept in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Simferopol. The Russian Church canonized him among new martyrs and confessors in 2000. In April 2014 former deputy of the French Parliament and leader of the Christian Democratic Party of France, seventy-year-old Christine Boutin, gave an interview to the journal “Charles” in which she was asked what she thought of homosexual relations. As a committed Christian the politician responded, referring to the words from the Holy Scriptures: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination (Lev. 18:22). The politician also noted that she had “never judged homosexuals.” She stressed that sin is inacceptable, but we need to accept sinners. On the grounds of these words two French LGBT associations sued her for “public incitement to hatred and violence.” Two years later the Paris court of appeals upheld the fine of 5,000 euros imposed on Boutin. The deputy is also obliged to pay 2,000 euros to two LGBT associations which filed a lawsuit against her. The representatives of the French LGBT community declared that “the judicial power of France has sent a clear-cut message to society.” As for Christine Boutin, she holds that she had every right to set forth her opinion on homosexuality.
