We can also speak of the monastic tonsure as a marriage. The soul of a monk or nun enters into marriage with Christ, and the angels are present at this moment and bear witness to the sacredness and indissolubility of this union. “I Will Make You a Gerontissa” Olga Rozhneva, Gerontissa Theophano About the benefit of obedience and Elder Ephraim A Conversation with Gerontissa Theophano Olga Rozhneva, Gerontissa Theophano The first monastery built by Elder Ephraim in America was the women’s monastery of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Saxonburg, PA. Elder Ephraim founded it in 1989. Pilgrims meet here a peaceful corner of nature, where you can forget for a time your worldly cares and anxieties and you can immerse yourself in a world of silence and prayer. The sisters of the monastery labor purely for the prayer of the heart and mind. Here and there you here: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me.” The Byzantine singing in church during the services leaves pilgrims in awe. Based on the memoirs of A. D. The central event of this fragment is the description of the arrival of the Most Holy Patriarch Tikhon in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.

The family-physician of the last Russian emperor and his family Dr. Eugene Botkin is to be canonized by the Moscow Patriarchate. The announcement was made today at a press conference in Moscow by the Department for External Church Relations " Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk. " The Council of Bishops has decided to celebrate among the saints Dr. Eugene Botkin, " the Metropolitan said. Eugene Botkin, son of the famous doctor Sergei Botkin, who had been a court physician under Emperors Alexander II and Alexander III, served as court physician for Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and, while in exile with the family, sometimes treated the haemophilia-related complications of the Tsesarevich Alexei Nikolaevich. Botkin accompanied the emperor and his family into exile to Tobolsk and later Ekaterinburg. The faithful doctor, aged 53 years, was shot along with the Russian royal family and three other retainers in the early morning hours of July 17th, 1918 in Ekaterinburg. In 1981, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) canonized the family of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, his wife, five children, and four faithful retainers - including Botkin - as new martyrs. In 2000, the Moscow Patriarchate canonized the family of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, including his wife and five children as passion bearers. Paul Gilbert Royal Russia 3 февраля 2016 г. Andreas J. Kostenberger A Theology of John’s Gospel and Letters introduces the first volume in the BTNT series. Building on many years of research and study in Johannine literature, Andreas Köstenberger not only furnishes an exhaustive theology of John’s Gospel and letters, but also provides a detailed study of major themes and relates them to the Synoptic Gospels and other New Testament books. Readers will gain an in-depth and holistic grasp of Johannine theology in the larger context of the Bible.D. A. Carson (Trinity Evangelical Divinity School) says about Köstenberger’s volume that “for the comprehensiveness of its coverage in the field of Johannine theology (Gospel and Letters), there is nothing to compare to this work.”I. Howard Marshall (University of Aberdeen) writes, “This book is a ‘first’ in many ways: the first volume that sets the pattern for the quality and style of the new Biblical Theology of the New Testament series published by Zondervan; the first major volume to be devoted specifically to the theology of John’s Gospel and Letters at a high academic level; and the first volume to do so on the basis that here we have an interpretation of John’s theology composed by an eyewitness of the life and passion of Jesus. ”The Biblical Theology of the New Testament SeriesThe Biblical Theology of the New Testament (BTNT) series provides upper college and seminary-level textbooks for students of New Testament theology, interpretation, and exegesis. Pastors and discerning theology readers alike will also benefit from this series. Written at the highest level of academic excellence by recognized experts in the field, the BTNT series not only offers a comprehensive exploration of the theology of every book of the New Testament, including introductory issues and major themes, but also shows how each book relates to the broad picture of New Testament theology. One way or another, Russian Orthodox believers trust in the power of the Mother of God to protect them from foreign invasions, times of trouble and other sorrows. They pray before the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God and the Image of Edessa to have the strength to overcome their difficulties, diseases and predicaments. The Russian Saint Seraphim of Sarov lived in the 18th century and was known for his righteousness, piety and miracle-working powers. His father was a successful businessman and a philanthropist, but Seraphim did follow in his footsteps. Instead, he dedicated himself to Orthodoxy from a young age. Christians appeal to Saint Seraphim of Sarov for his help in healing their ailments, restraining their passions, making good life choices, building strong families and finding success in their business endeavours. Out of a total of six altars, the Vladimirskaya Church is now using two in its worship. The main altar is dedicated to the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God (commemorated on 8 September, 3 June, and 6 July). The other altar bears the name of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sophia (commemorated on 30 September). To view the schedule of its worship, please refer to the official website of the Vladimirskaya Church . The prior of the church, Metropolitan Vladimir (Kotlyarov) has served in this capacity since 1996. Nine members of the clergy are assisting him. The church runs a Sunday school, a school for bell ringers and a library, and offers free legal advice to the needy. Whatever are your views on religion, the Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God is an exciting place to visit in Saint Petersburg. Be sure to add it to your sightseeing programme.
