Russian Church trying to find a place for the closed Oxford museum built by teacher of children of Nicholas II Source: Interfax-Religion Moscow, October 7, 2016      The Sourozh Diocese (combining parishes of the Russian Church in Great Britain and Ireland) is seeking to resolve the issue with a closed chapel-museum dedicated to the family of Nicholas II in Oxford. It was built by Archimandrite Nicholas (Gibbes), the teacher of the children of the last Russian emperor. “Presently our parish of St. Nicholas in Oxford is laboring to find a permanent place of habitation for the sacred items left behind by Archimandrite Nicholas (Gibbes), and we hope this work will be crowned with success,” stated Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh in an interview Friday with Interfax-Religion. According to him, after the death in the early 1990s of the adopted son of Archimandrite Nicholas, George Gibbes, the chapel was closed. Then for some time it was set up in the “Luton Hoo” estate in Hertfordshire County, but financial difficulties led to the space’s closing. Archimandrite Nicholas (in the world Charles Sydney Gibbes) was the English teacher for the children of Nicholas II, particularly of the Tsarevich Alexei. With ten years of service in the Russian imperial court he became a confidant of the royal family, even following them into exile in Siberia. In 1934 he accepted Orthodoxy with the name Alexei (in honor of the Tsarevich Alexei), and in the next year monasticism with the name Nicholas (in honor of Nicholas II). He founded a parish in London and then in Oxford. He remained faithful his whole life to the memory of the royal family and managed to save many of their relics. In 1945 Fr. Nicholas bought three cottages in Oxford, keeping the items in one of them, including an icon which Tsarina Alexandra Fedorovna entrusted to him in Tobolsk, including a dedicatory inscription, a pair of the emperor’s high boots, his handkerchief, and a bell and pencil case belonging to the Tsarevich Alexei. In 1946 he founded a museum in memory of the royal family in one of the three cottages. The large part of the items preserved there were taken from them at Ipatiev House, where Nicholas II’s family was shot, and transferred to Beijing. The priest took them with him everywhere from that time. As reported, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will visit London October 15-18 for the 300 year anniversary of the presence of Russian Orthodoxy in the British Isles. Michael Prokurat, Alexander Golitzin, Michael D. Peterson Скачать epub pdf IMPERIALISM IMPERIALISM. While the urge to dominate and build empires is universal among human beings and their societies, this term has a specific application to the history of the Orthodox Church. Inheriting the ideology of the Roman Empire as civilizer and pacifier of the world (see, for example, Virgil’s Aeneid), the newly Christian Empire under Constantine (q.v.) and his successors took over and promulgated a “baptized” version of this imperial theology. (See Church and State.) The oikoumene of Byzantium (qq.v.) theoretically embraced all Christians and sought-in theory, at least, and under Justinian (q.v.) in fact-to effect this dominion. Where possible, this was accomplished via the tools of diplomacy and armed force and, where impossible, through an elaborate hierarchy of titles bestowed by the imperial court on neighboring rulers. The latter, if only by a kind of fiction, preserved the theory of a family of nations presided over by the one emperor. Following the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Empire (qq.v.) in 1453, the universal claims of the Christian emperor found two claimants. Under the Sultans the Ecumenical Patriarch (q.v.) was given effective rule over all the formers’ Christian subjects. Later, with the advent of the Phanariots (q.v.) to power within the patriarchate, this rule was translated into an active Greek imperialism in the modern sense, leading to the suppression of the native hierarchies of the Empire’s Slavic and Romanian Orthodox subjects. The second claimant, the Russian tsar with the Church of Russia, displayed much the same policy of narrowly nationalist political and ecclesiastical conquest. All Orthodox within the tsardom were subjected to Russian political and ecclesiastical rule. These included the peoples of Western Rus’ (modern Ukraine and Belarus), Russian Moldavia (Bessarabia), and Georgia. One may note that the progress of the same imperial idea was different in the West. With the crowning of Charlemagne in 800, and the fabrication of the Donation of Constantine, the papacy laid claim to the presidency of the Christian oikoumene (qq.v.). It put these claims into effect during the Gregorian Reforms of the 11th-13th c. That the latter era was also the period which saw the definitive split between Orthodoxy and the Roman Catholic Church (q.v.) is not accidental. The two imperialisms in Orthodoxy (q.v.), Constantinopolitan and Muscovite, have come close to splitting the Church. The earlier competition between East and West succeeded in doing so. The tsar files: Who killed the Romanovs/Православие.Ru The tsar files: Who killed the Romanovs SOURCE: Russia Beyond the Headlines In the night between the 16th and 17th of July 1918 the family of Russia " s last Emperor, Nicolas II, was killed in Ekaterinburg. RBTH investigates the identities and lives of the killers of the tsar. Nicolas II Romanov and his wife Alexandra with children (pictured L-R): Alexei, Maria, Tatiana, Olga, Anastasia. Source: Getty Images/Fotobank      Even now, 95 years after the murder of Russia " s last czar, Nicholas II, we do not know precisely how many people took part in the deed. One account of the event claims there were eight, and yet another insists there were 11—one for each murdered member of the Russian royal family. It is clear, however, that the killing squad was led by two men named Yurovsky and Medvedev-Kudrin. Both later penned memoirs in which they described in great detail the night that Nicholas II was killed: both were proud of their role in Russian history; both held important jobs until their death, and remained respected members of Soviet society. Yakov Yurovsky, chief executioner of the Russian royal family. Source: Press photo Yakov Mikhaylovich Yurovsky (1878–1938) served as the superintendant of Ipatyev House in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg), where the royal family was held by the Soviet government. He also led the shooting squad. He claims that he personally fired the bullet that killed the czar. The participation of Yurovsky, who was Jewish, in the killing of the last Russian monarch later gave nationalists reason to complain that “our father the Czar was murdered by foreigners.” There were, in fact, only two “foreigners” in the killing squad: Yurovsky and Tselms; the latter was of Latvian extraction, and his participation in the killing is questioned by many. Yurovsky was a jeweller by profession, and, on the night of the killing, he was determined to find the czar’s diamonds. In this he succeeded; after the bodies of the czarinas were searched, about 17 pounds of jewellery was found sewn in their clothes. Yurovsky later handed it all over to the superintendant of the Kremlin. For the most part, the first Bolsheviks were not interested in money—but they undoubtedly were extremely ruthless.

Tweet Нравится Fundraising begins to install monument to Nicholas II in Diveyevo Moscow, November 23, 2016 Photo: http://www.pravoslavie.ru/ On November 17 representatives of the St. Basil the Great Charitable Fund and the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolia announced the beginning of collecting donations for installing a monument to the last Russian Tsar Nicholas II. The monument, which will also be dedicated to the family of the Russian tsar, is to appear at the Holy Trinity-St. Seraphim-Diveyevo Convent as early as 2017. Founder of the St. Basil the Great Charitable Fund Konstantin Malofeyev; Metropolitan George of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas; Abbess Sergiya of Diveyevo; representatives of the business community and public organizations that honor the history and hope for the resurgence of the former glory of Russia were present at the event, reports Tsargrad TV . According to Konstantin Malofeyev, “the Russian people are beginning to realize the gravity of the crime of apostasy and betrayal of the tsar.” He also stressed that they have also now come to realize the significance of the martyrdom of the Holy Emperor Nicholas II and his family. The date of unveiling of the monument was not chosen at random—2017 will mark the 100th anniversary since the tragic events of 1917. The location was chosen intentionally as well. The St. Seraphim-Diveyevo Convent and the family of Nicholas II are inseparably interconnected. It is much to the credit of St. Nicholas II that the holy elder Seraphim of Sarov, the patron of Diveyevo for many years, was canonized. The emperor insisted on his glorification in spite of the opposition of almost all the members of the Holy Synod. “The ceremony of the Church canonization of Venerable Seraphim took place on July 19 (August 1 according to the new calendar), 1903. The imperial family along with thousands of people from all corners of Russia took part in it,” representatives of the metropolia noted. Translated by Dmitry Lapa Pravoslavie.ru 24 ноября 2016 г.

United States Ambassador to Russia visits the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra Moscow, April 29, 2015      On April 24, 2015, the current USA Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation John Tefft together with his spouse visited the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, reports the communication service of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR). At the monastery’s holy gates the distinguished guests were received by Archimandrite Paul (Krivonogov), the Lavra’s dean. During a tour round the monastery the ambassador visited the Holy Trinity Cathedral where the Holy Relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh rest. John Tefft also was shown the refectory church which is unique by the fact that once it was one of the largest buildings of its time that were covered with vaults without intermediate supports; this temple was used for state receptions and festal dinners. In the mid-20th century it was venue for Local Councils and Councils of Hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church. Then the guest was told about the Lavra’s belltower and the bells that had been cast especially for it. By the end of the tour around the monastery Tefft visited the Holy Dormition Cathedral and the Godunov family burial vault.      The USA Ambassador has also paid a visit to the Moscow Theological Academy. There the guests were received by Archpriest Alexander Zadornov, pro-rector for the academic and theological work. Then followed a tea party during which John Tefft had an opportunity to learn about the life of the theological academy and seminary and communicated with representatives of the teaching staff.    During an excursion round the Church Archaeological Museum of the Moscow Theological Academy the Ambassador was told about the ever-memorable Patriarch Alexis I (Simansky: 1877-1970), with whose blessing the museum had been restored following the plunders of the post-revolution years, and was shown the late Patriarch’s personal things displayed at the museum.      In conclusion of the visit Archimandrite Paul (Krivonogov) presented the visitors with mementos, particularly with an image of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra on canvass. In his turn, J. Tefft gave the Lavra some books on the history and culture of the United States.      Throughout his visit to the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra the USA Ambassador was accompanied by DECR staff worker Alexander Ershov. 4 мая 2015 г. The Coalition for Family Values will be encouraging our current and future affiliates throughout the world to lobby their own governments to follow the Russian example. While the LGBT agenda has seemed like an unstoppable political juggernaut in North America and Europe, the vast majority of the people of the world do not accept the notion that sexual deviance should be normalized. It is time that these voices are heard on the world stage before the so-called elites of the Western powers impose their inverted morality on everyone through the manipulation of international law, which they clearly intend to do. The LGBT agenda has already gone too far, but it is still advancing. We are asking the family-friendly nations of the world to erect a barrier to that agenda in their own countries and in the international community, which can perhaps strengthen and embolden the pro-family movement in the Western nations to roll back that agenda in our own countries. The future of the natural family is the future of humanity itself. We must not allow the culture of desolation to supplant the culture of life in our societies. Let us pray for healing for those who choose the LGBT path, and (within reason) respect their right to be wrong in their private lives. But let us not allow the LGBT political movement to transform the world in its own distorted image. Caveat: This statement is not to be construed as a blanket endorsement of the Russian Federation, but an acknowledgement that its policies regarding family values are trending in the right direction. The great lesson of Christianity is that repentance brings renewal, and every person or nation which turns from sin receives the blessing of God. We praise Russia not because it has achieved perfection in all things, but because it has turned from the evil of communism and is beginning to embrace Christian values once again. By encouraging the good, we hope to see further positive changes. 25 февраля 2014 г. Подпишитесь на рассылку Православие.Ru

Romanov Descendants Want Romanovs " Murderers Name Erased from Moscow Map/Православие.Ru Romanov Descendants Want Romanovs " Murderers Name Erased from Moscow Map July 17, 2015      Members of the Romanov dynasty intend to address the Moscow City Hall with the request to rename a metro station that currently is named after the Bolshevik who played a key role in the 1918 execution of Tsar Nicolas II and his family. Representatives of the Russian Imperial House say that the renaming could be done on the anniversary of the killing, which happened in the early hours of July 17, 1918. The station in question is currently called Voikovskaya–After Pyotr Voikov who worked in the Bolshevik “Extraordinary Commission” security service and was in charge of first keeping the Romanovs under house arrest and later of their execution and body disposal. The Romanovs also want the city authorities to rename the whole Voikovsky district in Moscow for the same reasons. The dynasty’s lawyer German Lukyanov told the Interfax news agency that the renaming should have happened a long time ago. “It is simply necessary to clear the Moscow city map of the name of someone who took part in repression and who organized the Tsar’s family killing.” He added that Voikov’s name was found under the order to issue 80 kilos of sulfuric acid used to dissolve the bodies of the last Russian Emperor, his wife and children and also some of their servants. The lawyer said that a new name would restore historical justice. “The renaming would mean that Russia is a democratic state with no connections to the totalitarian past. Patriarch Alexy II [the late head of the Russian Orthodox Church] had said that the execution of the Tsar’s family was the beginning of repressions and the terrible terror unleashed against the whole population of Russia.” A similar initiative has been prepared by municipal lawmakers of the Voikovskiy District. Aleksandr Zakondyrin suggested holding an online poll and choosing a new name for the area. The City Hall press service told the Kommersant newspaper that they have not yet received any suggestions regarding the renaming and such initiatives would be considered as soon as they arrive. At the same time, deputy Elena Shuvalova of the Moscow City Duma told reporters that many residents of the Voikovskiy District were against the renaming as it would require them to change their internal passports and other documents.

Russian specialists preserving Christian heritage of Lebanon The Kadisha Valley (also Wadi Qadisha), Lebanon, December 12, 2014 A group of archaeologists and restorers, including Russian scientists, has begun implementing a large-scale project of reconstructing an ancient Christian church complex that is a UNESCO World Heritage monument, reports the Tayyar.org news portal.      According to the media reports, the Maronite Church appealed to the Committee for Restoration of Ancient Lebanese Churches for further examination of the unique wall paintings of the Kadisha Valley churches. The first stage of the reconstruction was carried out through joint efforts of specialists from Russia, Poland, and Italy. Now the time has come for 16th-17th century frescoes. According to George Arab, the project’s executive director, the frescoes depicting Christ and the Holy Family as well as Icons of the Mother of God and St. Daniel Are of a special interest for the scientific world. Today the committee members have started surveying the state of the monuments and embarked on their description. Unfortunately, the frescoes were considerably damaged over the years by the high humidity of the valley. The icons themselves, according to rector of one of the Kadisha Valley churches, Father Habib, amaze pilgrims even now. The main wall painting that depicts the Ascension of the Holy Virgin is a rare iconographic type. Here the Mother of God, being received by the Holy Trinity into the heavens, rises above the cedars of Lebanon, under which the locally venerated Holy Patriarchs surround the sacrificial altar with the Lamb. It is supposed that the original icon was painted by Monk Peter of Cyprus in 1702 under Patriarch Estephan El Douaihy (1630-1704). Other wall paintings the Russian archaeologists are currently working on are no less striking; for example, the so-called “fresco of Petition” bears an image of the Heavenly Father standing in front of the Heavenly Altar with the Lamb. In the historians’ view, this and other compositions enable the scientists to throw light upon the late stages of development of the oriental iconography which are insufficiently known to this day. At the same time, according to the As-Safir newspaper’s reports, the next step of the field research will be the lower story of a Kadisha monastery built in the 12th century.
