Venerable Amphilochius of Pângrai      Holy Venerable Amphilochius from Pângrai was born in 1487, in ara de Sus, Moldavia. He began his monastic life in his youth at Moldovia Monastery, wherefrom he came to Pângrai in 1508. There all the members of the community elected him abbot, so that he led them for fifty-six years. Hieromonk Anastasios from Moldovia, who knew him well, speaks about his life: “He chose to live in monasticism ever since he was a child, having been esteemed by all the people of his time for his good deeds. He was a very good writer, fasting, patient and striving to live a spiritual life.” Due to his efforts, Christ our Lord and St. Demetrius, the protector of the monastery, commanded the ruling prince Alexandru Lapuneanu (1552-1561; 1564-1568) to build a new church at Pângrai in place of the old wooden one which the Turks had burned down. The church was consecrated by Metropolitan Gregory of Suceava in 1560. In 1566, the saint gathered all his spiritual sons around, gave them his last advice, appointed Hieromonk Teodorit as igumen in his stead and retired to his first monastery, Moldovia. There Blessed Amphilochius became a hermit by the name of Enoch and lived for four more years. In 1570, having known beforehand the time of his death, he received Holy Communion and fell asleep in the Lord. His disciples buried him. On March 6, 2008 the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church canonized Venerable Simeon and Amphilochius, to be celebrated on September 7/20. Through the prayers of the venerable Saints Simeon and Amphilochius, Lord Jesus Christ our God have mercy on us. Amen. Troparion, tone 3: Oh, Venerable Fathers Simeon and Amphilochius, you who did enlighten the Carpathian woods through your prayers and filled the whole valley of Bistria with a spiritual aroma, close advisers of the ruling princes and radiant torches of the monastics and pious faithful, pray to God for us, who celebrate with love your holy commemoration. 20 сентября 2016 г. Hieromartyr Hippolytus the Pope of Rome Commemorated on January 30 Photo: Days.Pravoslavie.Ru The Hieromartyr Hippolytus, and the Martyrs Censorinus, Sabinus, Chryse the Virgin and 20 Others suffered during the third century. When Saint Hippolytus, Bishop of Rome, learned of the suffering of the martyrs, he appeared before the governor despite his advanced years and rebuked the torturers for their inhumanity. The enraged governor sentenced the holy bishop to be tortured. After long torments, they tied him hand and foot and threw him into the sea. Saint Censorinus was a high-ranking magistrate during the reign of the Roman emperor Claudius II (268-270). He was arrested and thrown into prison for his faith in Christ. By the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ he raised up a dead man. As a result, twenty soldiers and prison guards were converted to Christ. They were beheaded with Saint Censorinus. Then the virgin Chryse was brought for interrogation. She bravely confessed herself a Christian and was subjected to torture. After horrible torments, she was drowned in the sea. Saint Sabinus had heavy rocks tied around his neck, and then they hung his body on a tree and burned his sides with torches. In his torments, he gave up his holy soul to the Lord. With Saint Chryse suffered the martyrs Ares, Felix, Maximus, Herculianus, Venerius, Stiracius, Mennas, Commodus, Hermes, Maurus, Eusebius, Rusticus, Monagrius, Amandinus, Olympius, Cyprus, Theodore the Tribune, Maximus the Presbyter, Archelaus the Deacon, and Cyriacus the Bishop. All these Roman martyrs suffered in the year 269. The relics of the Hieromartyr Hippolytus were put in the church of the holy Martyrs Laurence and Pope Damasus at Rome. Saint Hippolytus was a disciple of Saint Irenaeus, Bishop of Lugdunum (Lyons in France), and he is also renowned as a Christian theologian who wrote many treatises against the heretics. Saint Hyppolitus compiled a Paschal Canon, the famous Apostolic Tradition, “On Christ”, and a “Treatise on the Antichrist.” Saint Hippolytus also wrote many commentaries on Holy Scripture, on the Biblical Books: Genesis, Exodus, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, the Song of Songs, and on the Gospels of Matthew, Luke and John, and on the Prophets Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Zechariah, on the Psalms of David and on the Apocalyse. Part of his works are preserved only in fragments. His discourses, devoted to the Theophany and the Prophet Daniel, are preserved in full. His discourses demonstrate his masterful style of preaching. He was one of the last Western Fathers to write in Greek. The Orthodox Church in America 7 февраля 2017 г. Interesting note: in American Orthodoxy, we use the Menaia published by Sophia Press, a Byzantine Catholic publisher (we surmise because the Orthodox either cannot or will not spend monies to publish these readings)! Their bias is all too clear inserted into the Vesper and Matins Irmoi: the two brothers corrected the error of the Moslems (!!) - nowhere mentioned is the problem with the " german " Latin Bishops who imprisoned and tortured St Methodios! We celebrate the two Sts Kyril and Methodios as our patrons in our own outreach to those in the Latin-western errors who live among us and name the name of the Lord Jesus Christ while knowing so little about Him! Armenian Muslims living in Turkey are returning to Christianity Istanbul, May 19, 2015    Armenians living in Turkey – descendants of the Christians who embraced Islam – are returning to the faith of their fathers in great numbers, reports the Linga news portal.      According to the famous Agos Armenian weekly newspaper published in Istanbul, the cases of conversion of Armenian Muslims to Christianity, which are becoming more frequent, indicate that they (Armenians) have preserved their ancestors’ faith deep in their memory. Specifically, it has been reported that on Saturday, May 9, clergy of the Turkish Church of St. Stephen baptized twelve Dersim Armenians. The latter, having learned about their true origin, accepted the Gospel message at once. Also most of the newly-baptized who joined the Armenian Church have decided to bless their family life by the sacrament of a Church wedding. In the experts’ view, this event is just one example of a large number of conversions of Turkish Armenians’ descendants from Islam to Christianity: thus, Dr. Georgette Avakian in her interview with the portal noted that “descendants of the Armenians who were forcibly converted to the faith of Prophet Muhammad have started realizing the significance of their nation’s history, and now they are returning by the dozens to their ancestral faith in Christ the Savior”. “There are many such examples. One case of particular resonance recently took place in Jerusalem, when a group of Turkish Muslims of Armenian origin came to the Holy Land in order to be baptized there in the Metropolis of the Armenian Apostolic Church. And that they fearlessly announced this in public is already extremely significant,” Avakian said in conclusion. Now we are radiantly celebrating, giving thanks to the Creator and commemorating the miracle of the Incarnation of God – the most important event in the history of the economy of our salvation, which occurred over two thousand years ago in a small town in the east of the Roman Empire. Born not in royal chambers, but in a squalid cave in Bethlehem, the Lord Jesus Christ brought to earth a new covenant – the covenant of love which is truly more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices (Mk 12:33). May this love, being sent from above, strengthen you in your Primatial ministry and inspire you to pray zealously on behalf of all and for all .” The message concludes with wishes of strength, God’s generous help and success in the service for the good of the Holy Church. They will remove the Lord’s clothes—hurry to clothe yourself with them, to cover your sinful nakedness with His righteousness and accomplishments. A spear shall bring forth water and blood from His side—stand beneath the Cross with open mouth, that at least a drop of life will fall inside you, to extinguish the flames of hell which consume you. Again, I repeat: the coming days are the most favorable for sinners’ repentance, for the essence of these days is the salvation of the whole world, to which the wise thief bears witness. Amen. The Last Supper (with audio) This kind of Liturgy is reserved for the major feasts of the Lord, but on Holy Thursday we are additionally reminded of Judas’ betrayal at the Last Supper in the upper room, as he dipped his bread into the wine and gave his Master a kiss. This is to instruct us that we must flee Judas’s example and cleanse our conscience through the sacrament of confession before daring to receive Communion of the Holy Mysteries of Christ. Уподобляя эти 6000 лет шести дням, он писал: So in not many years within our own generation we are reaching what Jehovah God could view as the seventh day of man’s existence. 48 How appropriate it would be for Jehovah God to make of this coming seventh period of a thousand years a sabbath period of rest and release, a great Jubilee sabbath for the proclaiming of liberty throughout the earth to ail its inhabitants! This would be most timely for mankind. It would also be most fitting on God’s part, for, remember, mankind has yet ahead of it what the last book of the Holy Bible speaks of as the reign of Jesus Christ over earth for a thousand years, the millennial reign of Christ. Prophetically Jesus Christ, when on earth nineteen centuries ago, said concerning himself: «For Lord of the sabbath is what the Son of man is.» (Matthew 12:8) It would not be by mere chance or accident but would be according to the loving purpose of Jehovah God for the reign of Jesus Christ, the «Lord of the sabbath,» to run parallel with the seventh millennium of man’s existence.

God sent Tamar a sign when He was ready to receive her into His Kingdom. Then the pious ruler bade farewell to her court and turned in prayer to an icon of Christ and the Life-giving Cross: “Lord Jesus Christ! Omnipotent Master of heaven and earth! To Thee I deliver the nation and people that were entrusted to my care and purchased by Thy Precious Blood, the children whom Thou didst bestow upon me, and to Thee I surrender my soul, O Lord!” The burial place of Queen Tamar has remained a mystery to this day. Some sources claim that her tomb is in Gelati, in a branch of burial vaults belonging to the Bagrationi dynasty, while others argue that her holy relics are preserved in a vault at the Holy Cross Monastery in Jerusalem. Exalted among the saints, O Holy and Righteous Queen Tamar, thou didst erect churches atop the highest peaks, strengthen the armies of the Christ-fearing Georgian nation by thy prayers, and defeat the Muslim armies with thy right hand.
