Bithos, PhD.: Thank you for your correction of this important fact; indeed the person remains unidentified. Sometimes, theology is sacrificed for other motives, political and financial influence being some of them. Fr. Dn. George P. Bithos, PhD. 14 апреля 2014, 22:00 I write with some sadness that this explanation of the Hymn of Kasianne perpetuates the popular misconception that the " sinful " woman of the hymn is Kasianne. How very sad. The hymn, which is a masterpiece of Orthodox hymnography, was authored by our devote Mother in Christ Kasia, the abbess of a Convent in Constantinople. Not only was she not a sinful woman, she abandoned the world to seek a life of prayer and contemplation. She stands today as one of the few women hymnographers of the Church. The sinful woman of the Gospels is unidentified, yet her story of repentance is described with great understanding and passion by Mother Kasia writing in ninth century Byzantium. As we listen to the hymn we should allow its message and the poetry of Mother Kasia to help us on our journey through this Great and Holy Week and to the Joy of our Lord " s Resurrection. Moscow church celebrates memorial service for those who die on the streets Moscow, March 28, 2017      On Saturday, March 26, a traditional Pannikhida memorial service was celebrated in the Church of the Holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian “on Shubin” in downtown Moscow for all those who have lived and died on the streets. The service was arranged by volunteers who work with the homeless, reports rublev.com . The service of remembrance for all those who did not survive the winter gathered volunteers of the “Friend of the Street” movement, as well as the homeless friends of the departed, and other concerned residents of the city. “People with no roof over their heads die from cold already from the first autumn frosts. Winter 2016 was severe, which means there were quite a number of victims of freezing nights this year,” the organizers commented. The first such memorial was held eleven years ago in memory of Lily Zueva, a young woman who died of cold and sickness on the streets in 2006. Since then all the homeless departed known by “Friends on the Street” have been commemorated annually in the Church of Sts. Cosmas and Damian. Photo: Miloserdie.ru      “People of various ages and incomes pray side by side, those with homes, and those without, and then they sit down to eat together, to share a prepared memorial meal with love,” the “Mercy” charity organization stated, adding that the purpose of the event is “so that people would not be forgotten but would find, perhaps, the final dignity—to depart to the other world with a name.” A similar memorial service for those who died on the streets was served on March 4 in the Kiev Church of All Saints by Bishop Barsanuphius of Borodyanka, followed by a memorial meal. The Lord of creation, the one who walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden, the one who raised Lazarus from the dead, the one died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again three days later calls to us. The bridegroom calls out to his church and to the world this morning, simply asking, “Who do you say that I am?” Amen. The seventh meeting of the Joint Commissions of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and of the Moscow Patriarchate held in Moscow From June 26-28, 2006, the seventh joint meeting of the Commission of the Moscow Patriarchate on dialog with the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and of the Commission of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia on discussions with the Moscow Patriarchate was held at the offices of the Department of External Church Relations at St Danilov Monastery in Moscow. Participating on behalf of the Moscow Patriarchate were: President of the Commission, Archbishop Innokenty of Korsun; Archbishop Evgeny of Verey; Protopriest Vladislav Tsypin; Archimandrite Tikhon (Shevkunov); and Secretary of the Commission, Protopriest Nikolai Balashov. On the side of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia were: President of the ROCOR Commission, Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany; Bishop Ambroise; Archimandrite Luke (Murianka); Protopriest Nikolai Artemoff; and the Commission’s Secretary, Protopriest Alexander Lebedeff. The Chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, also participated in the discussion of certain questions. The main topic of the meeting was the further steps upon the path of reestablishing church unity in the light of the decisions of the IV All-Diaspora Council and of the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, held last May in San Francisco. The proposals expressed by the Council of Bishops of ROCOR regarding the further development of the Act on Canonical Communion were carefully studied. After an exhaustive discussion, a supplemented draft of the Act was prepared for submission to the Holy Synod of the Moscow Patriarchate and the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia for consideration. Clarifications were made at the meetings on some aspects of the participation of the Moscow Patriarchate in inter-religious and inter-Christian activities. The Commissions also examined other canonical and practical questions which needed to be decided in connection with the reestablishment of ecclesiastical unity. Among these were problems of the existing parishes of the Russian Church Abroad on the canonical territory of the Moscow Patriarchate and of pastoral interrelations between the bishops and clergymen of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and of the Moscow Patriarchate who conduct their ministry abroad. 17 мая 2007 г. ... Orthodox Church Destruction Fought in Morocco June 8, 2012 The Russian Orthodox Church is fighting the demolition of a church in Casablanca after a defrocked priest illegally sold it to a local developer, church officials say. The Dormition Church of the Mother of God sits on valuable land in the city " s downtown. Built by Russian emigres in 1958, it is one of only two Russian Orthodox churches in Morocco. The Dormition officially belonged to a Moroccan parish linked to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, an international synod based in New York. Sometime between late December and early January, the defrocked priest secretly sold the church to a Moroccan real estate firm using false documents, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia reported Friday. That former priest, French citizen Nikolai Semenoff, then hired local workers to enter the church and prepare it for demolition, the rector of the Resurrection Church in Rabat, Morocco, said in comments carried by the Orthodox organization " s website. " On Feb. 1, 2012, the church, recently renovated through the efforts of local parishioners, was entered by laborers who destroyed the valuable iconostasis, tore the old icons off the walls and tried to extract the holy items from the church to an unknown destination, but were stopped by the tenant of the parish property, " Priest Maksim Massalitine said. Police detained Semenoff at a Casablanca airport later that month. An investigation into the church " s sale is under way. Semenoff is prohibited from leaving the country during the inquiry. On April 16, the real estate firm sent an eviction notice to the building " s tenant, La Fondation Marocaine pour la Jeunesse, l " Initiative et le Developpement. The notice asked the tenant to vacate the building within three months so that it could be demolished. The Moscow Patriarchate has asked the Russian Embassy in Morocco to prevent the demolition. " We are attempting in every way possible to oppose the demolition of the church, " archbishop Mark of Yegoryevsk, head of the Patriarchate " s department for institutions abroad, said Wednesday, Itar-Tass reported. More than a hundred Russian Orthodox faithful who have relocated from Morocco to the United States have signed a petition to the Moroccan government to forbid the demolition, Itar-Tass reported. On Monday, several dozen worshipers joined by Christians and Muslims protested outside the church, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia reported. There is now a 24-hour-a-day vigil surrounding the church. The Moscow Times 8 июня 2012 г. ... Комментарии Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку
