The Ascension of the Lord St. Nicholai Velimirovich Thus did the One ascend to Heaven Who held heaven within Himself. He who carries hell within himself will end up in hell, but he who bears heaven within his soul will ascend to heaven. And truly, no one can ascend to heaven other than those who have heaven within; and no one can end up in hell besides those who have hell within. The familiar is drawn to what is familiar and unites with the familiar; but it rejects what is not familiar. Matter submits to the spirit to the extent that the human soul is filled with the Divine Spirit; and the laws of nature are obedient to moral laws, which govern the world. Because the Lord Jesus Christ is the fullness of the Holy Spirit and the perfection of moral law, to Him is subject all matter—the entire physical world, with all the laws of nature. Any person, as a spirit, can be victorious in his life over a certain law of nature, with the help of another law of nature—that is, he can overcome it with his own spirit. Christ, as the God-Man, could subject the laws of nature to Himself through the law of the Spirit, which is the supreme law of the created world. However, this concept, just as any other spiritual concept, can be but partially explained by ordinary earthly conceptualizations and reasoning—and that only by examples and comparisons. Spiritual things only become clear beyond a doubt when the spirit sees them and perceives them. In order to see and feel the manifestations of the spiritual world, long and exhausting spiritual practice is needed, after which, by God’s grace, spiritual vision may be opened in a person; this vision allows him to see what seems unbelievable and impossible to ordinary mortals. Nevertheless, a person must first believe those who have seen the unbelievable, and strengthen their faith from day to day, striving to see what is inaccessible to the common gaze. Not in vain does the Lord say, Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed (Jn. 20:29). The Lord God rejoices in their faith just as a father on earth rejoices that his children believe his every word. All the apostles were present at the Ascension of the Lord, gathered on the hill. This was their last collective meeting. However, this was not the last appearance of Christ. Later He appeared in a vision to the Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus, to the Apostle John on the island of Patmos, and to other apostles, as well as to martyrs, holy hierarchs, and confessors, over the course of the entire history of the Christian Church.

The Holy Prophet Micah Commemorated August 14/27 St. Nicholai Velimirovich      Micah was of the tribe of Judah and from the village of Morasth for which he is called the " Morasthite. " He was a contemporary of the prophets Isaiah, Amos, Hosea and the Jewish kings Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah. Micah rebuked the vices of his people and rebuked the false prophets who prophesied " of wine and of strong drink " (Micah 2:11). He foretold the destruction of Samaria. He also foretold the destruction of Jerusalem, which will come because their leaders accept bribes, the priests teach for lucre and its prophets tell fortunes for money. " Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field and Jerusalem shall become as heaps " (Micah 3:12). But, of all his prophecies, the most important prophecy is that of the Messiah, especially the place of His birth. He mentioned Bethlehem as the birthplace of the Messiah, " Whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting " (Micah 5:2). It is not known exactly whether this prophet was slain by the Jews or whether he died a peaceful death. " Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah and spoke to all the people of Judah saying, Thus said the Lord of hosts; Zion shall be plowed like a field and Jerusalem shall become heaps and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest. Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? Did he not fear the Lord and besought the Lord and the Lord repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls " (Jeremiah 26:18-19). However, it is known that he was buried in his village and his relics were found, together with the relics of the Prophet Habakkuk, during the reign of Emperor Theodosius the Great according to a mysterious revelation, which Bishop Zevin of Eleutheropolis received. HYMN IN PRAISE OF MICAH Micah, God's prophet, with the Spirit of God burns, Salvation speaks and punishment prophesies:

The Lord of creation, the one who walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden, the one who raised Lazarus from the dead, the one died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again three days later calls to us. The bridegroom calls out to his church and to the world this morning, simply asking, “Who do you say that I am?” Amen. It is an image of every person who is led by irrational desires, deprived of spiritual freedom, attached to the passions and habits of fleshly life. Christ’s teaching looses the ass from its attachment; that is, from fulfilling its sinful and fleshly will. Sermon for Palm Sunday Sermon for Palm Sunday With the expectation of the Messiah, and the events of Christ’s ministry on earth, word travelled quickly around Judea that Jesus was the one whom the prophets had spoken about and whom everyone was expecting. Yesterday Christ performed a miracle by raising Lazarus from the dead, the miracle that foreshadowed his glorious resurrection next Sunday. Now everyone is convinced that this is the Messiah-king who will save the Israelites. Комментарии Подпишитесь на рассылку Православие.Ru Рассылка выходит два раза в неделю:

O, great is the power of God and ineffable are His wonders, so that one who loves God and abides by His will cannot be destroyed even by the grave and the earth cannot imprison him. Moreover, even during his lifetime the sea itself was obedient to him, and after his death, death did not affect his God-bearing body. But, moreover, like an aromatic lily it grew on the fragrances of his virtues which blossomed from his youth, and, as the prophet said: ‘his body did not undergo decomposition’ (Acts 2:31). I see much the same as happened to Israel of old with what is happening in my own Greek nation. We turned our backs on God and ended up enslaved to the fourth reich EU. Now the nation is in freefall demographically from abortions, economically from consumerism debt, corruption (people forgot Christ " s own commandment - render to Caesar the things that are of Caesar " s and to God the things that are of God ie pay your taxes) and spiritually from a loss of true Orthodox faith. (And thrown in the mix is the heresy of ecumenism for which parts or rather members of the clergy are notorious for) and you see the catastrophe engulfing the nation. © 1999-2016 Православие.Ru При перепечатке ссылка на Православие.Ru обязательна Контактная информация

John. In several months, we opened the relics a second time in order to wash them and vest Vladika, but we were not sure how to go about doing this. There was no reference book with detailed instructions on relics are to be washed and prepared before a glorification service. Archbishop Anthony was searching all his books. He did find some historical data on canonizations, including a description of how St. Theodosy of Chernigov and St. Ioasaph of Belgorod were glorified by the Russian Orthodox Church. He also found some articles in the publication The Church Herald and other old periodicals. There was some information there, but we had to figure out most things for ourselves. In Russia, perestroika had only just begun, and the opening of relics was not yet widespread. There was nobody to ask. We washed St. John's relics using water, oil, and rosewater. Initially, his skin seemed light in color, almost white, but it turned a rather dark amber color after it was washed. I combed out his hair and beard (I even found several hairs in the comb afterwards). We changed his vestments and left him in the sepulcher until 1994, when he was glorified on the day of his repose, July 2. Before St. John Maximovitch's canonization, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia had canonized Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg, St. John of Kronstadt, and the New Martyrs of Russia. There were many requests and pleas that these saints be glorified. Even St. Nicholai (Velimirovic) of Serbia had written to the Synod of Bishops asking ROCOR to glorify St. John of Kronstadt. Metropolitan Anastassy, who was the First Hierarch of ROCOR at that time, was against the idea of canonizing St. John of Kronstadt because he felt that such an act might in some way usurp the full authority of the whole Russian Orthodox Church. When Metropolitan Philaret was elected First Hierarch, though, the glorification of St. John of Kronstadt did take place. The glorification of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco took place as follows: First, the relics were brought from the sepulcher to the cathedral proper and placed in the center of the church.

Panteleimon Monastery on Mt. Athos. In the 1920’s alone over twenty Trans Carpathians entered the St. Panteleimon brotherhood. One of these zealous seekers of the ascetic life was the future abbot of St. Panteleimon Monastery, Gabriel (George Legach). In 1924 he and a group of his young countrymen arrived on the Holy Mountain of Athos, where on June 4, 1924 he became a novice in the Russian St. Pateleimon Monastery. In two years, on March 24, 1926, in the Russian Athonite monastery he received the ryassaphore tonsure with the name Gabriel, and on March 20, 1930 he was tonsured into the mantia with the same name. Fr. Gabriel’s first obedience was in the roofing workshop. During that period, when communication with the fatherland was lost, the St. Panteleimon Monastery experienced serious material hardships. Therefore many of the monks of the monastery went to collect alms in Serbia, where the center of the Russian immigration was located. Fr. Gabriel became one of these emissaries. He established very good contacts with the Serbian Orthodox Church and inclined the good will of certain of its representatives. There, in Serbia, on July 22, 1937, Fr. Gabriel was ordained a hierodeacon by St. Nicholai (Velimirovich). On January 24, 1949 he was ordained a hieromonk in his own monastery. After returning from Serbia to his monastery he continued his obedience as a roofer. “With a fearlessness that amazed the brothers he repaired and painted the roofs. The monastery leadership sent him to other obediences as well. Everyone who knew him spoke of his particular love of labor. If Fr. Gabriel was not in church or praying in his cell, then he was without fail at work. He allowed himself but an insignificant rest at night. In the over fifty years of his life in the monastery there was never an occasion when he spent time in idle talk. Fr. Gabriel loved the church. Every day, morning and evening, he came to the church services, and if he was not appointed to serve he sang and read on the cliros.

With the outbreak of the First World War, Archimandrite Nikolai was sent on a diplomatic mission to England, where he successfully pleaded the cause of the embattled Serbs. In addition, the distinction of his Oxford doctorate helped gain him an invitation to speak at Westminster Abbey. As one Anglican prelate later recalled: " The Archimandrite Nicholai Velimirovich came, and in three months left an impression that continues to this day. His works, 'The Lord's Commandments' and his 'Meditations on the Lord's Prayer' electrified the Church of England. His vision of the Church as God's family, as over against God's empire, simply shattered the West's notion of what it had regarded as the Caesaro-Papism of Eastern Orthodoxy. " (Canon Edward West, " Recollections of Bishop Nikolai, Kalendar, Serbian Orthodox Church of USA and Canada, 1979; quoted in Kesich.) Archimandrite Nikolai then took his mission to America, where he enlisted the aid not only of emigrant Serbs, but also of thousands of Croats and Slovenes in their common war with Austria. His spiritual and intellectual strengths made him a very persuasive ambassador for his country, even as he was also - and always - an ambassador for Christ and His Church. Returning home to Serbia in 1919, Archimandrite Nikolai was consecrated Bishop of Zica. The ravages of war had inflicted great physical and emotional damage, and the new bishop applied himself energetically to the work of restoration. He taught religion, helped the poor, established orphanages, and took the helm of the popular spiritual revivalist movement, Bogomljcki Pokret, steering it away from its inclination towards sectarianism. This movement encouraged prayer, the reading of the Bible, and frequent confession and communion. Under Bishop Nikolai's spiritual guidance, its influence spread, and it contributed to a revival of monasticism. Monasteries and convents were restored and reopened, and the flowering of monastic life in turn reinvigorated the spiritual life of the Serbian people as a whole, who responded with esteem and devotion to the leadership of this extraordinarily gifted archpastor.
