Russian Orthodox Church will do whatever it can to preserve fraternal relations between Russia and the Ukraine Moscow, March 19, 2014 The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church at its meeting on March 19, 2014, has testified that it is willing to do anything it can to restore fraternal relations between Russia and the Ukraine, as to bring peace to Crimea, stated chairman of the Synodal Information Department V.R. Legoida.      " The Holy Synod has stressed that Crimea has been and remains an integral part of our one, multinational Church, " said V. Legoida. " In this crucial moment of the Crimean history, the Russian Orthodox Church is offering up a fervent prayer to the Lord: that fraternal blood might not be shed on the Crimean land; that the Lord may keep all residents of the peninsula—Russians, Ukrainians, Tatars, and representatives of other nationalities—in peace, prosperity, integrity of views and love, " said Legoida, citing the statements of the Holy Synod (minutes no. 4), which express the belief that " There should be no issues between the fraternal nations of Russia and the Ukraine, decided by force of arms, in defiance of the will of the people " . " The Holy Synod has testified that the Russian Orthodox Church, which embraces the peoples of Russia and the Ukraine, prompted by their pastoral responsibility, is ready to do its best to restore brotherly, good-neighborly relations, based on mutual respect, between Russia and the Ukraine, " head of the synodal department added. The Holy Synod has also made a separate statement dedicated to the situation in the Ukraine: " The Russian Orthodox Church has many times called for the prevention of violence, bloodshed, and the fratricidal conflict on the Ukrainian land. Unfortunately, the tragic events have not been avoided: people have been killed, and many have been injured. Thus, today we are again and again calling upon everyone, for whom the Ukrainian people and peace in the Ukraine are of great importance: violence must not be repeated. Church boundaries are not determined by political preferences, or by ethnic differences, nor even by state boundaries. The Church keeps its unity in spite of all changing circumstances. At the same time, it is important for the Church that the peoples of historical Rus’ preserve those values on which Christian civilization is founded. These values enabled us to build the glorious past, and we believe that they will enable us to build a worthy future " . Source: Patriarchia.ru. 21 марта 2014 г. Archive Holy Synod calls upon Primates of Local Orthodox Churches to initiate pan-Orthodox discussion on the church situation in Ukraine 14 September 2018 year 20:29 On 14 September 2018, at its extraordinary session , the Holy Synod adopted a statement concerning the uncanonical invasion of the Patriarchate of Constantinople of the canonical territory of the Russian Orthodox Church. “The unilateral, uncanonical actions of the See of Constantinople in the territory of Ukraine, committed while ignoring completely the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, indicate a direct support for the Ukrainian schism. It constitutes a great temptation among the millions-strong flock of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church that the Patriarchate of Constantinople, considering itself to be the Mother Church for the Ukrainian Church, gives to its daughter a stone instead of bread and a serpent instead of a fish (cf. Lk. 11:11),” the statement reads. The document notes that “in this critical situation, when Constantinople has practically refused to resolve the matter by means of dialogue,” the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church decided to suspend the liturgical prayerful commemoration of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and the con-celebration with hierarchs of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. “In the event that the Patriarchate of Constantinople will continue to carry out its uncanonical activities in the territory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, we will be compelled to completely break off the Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople. All the responsibility for the tragic consequences of this division will lie personally with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and the hierarchs supporting him,” the statement says. Being aware that the current situation puts in jeopardy the whole world Orthodoxy, the members of the Synod asked the Local Autocephalous Churches for support and called upon the Primates of the Churches “to fully realize our shared responsibility for the fate of the world Orthodoxy and initiate a fraternal pan-Orthodox discussion on the church situation in Ukraine.” Patriarchal Press Service Календарь ← 7 December 2023 year

Priests should return to Chinese Orthodox churches - Moscow Patriarchate/Православие.Ru Priests should return to Chinese Orthodox churches - Moscow Patriarchate Moscow, May 16, 2013 The recent visit to China by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has exceeded even the most ambitious expectations, Metropolitan Hilarion, head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations, said. " Even a year or two ago, only a few people could have imagined that Patriarch Kirill would visit China, that it would not be just a private visit, but it would be a semi-official visit, which would take place at such a high level - the highest state level, " the metropolitan told the Voice of Russia radio station. Patriarch Kirill was the first Christian faith leader to meet with the head of China, he said. " A year ago, no one could have thought that religious services would be conducted in Beijing, Harbin and Shanghai, especially in Shanghai " s Church of the Mother of God the Surety of Sinners, which had not been used for religious services for almost 50 years. In my opinion, this visit has exceeded even the most ambitious expectations in many ways, " Metropolitan Hilarion said. However, there is still a great deal to do to bring the life of the Orthodox Church in China back to normal, he said. The Russian Orthodox Church will conduct this work in close cooperation with the Chinese authorities and China " s State Administration for Religious Affairs. Metropolitan Hilarion described the main task as securing the ordination of Chinese priests and resuming religious services at churches that still function as lay churches, he said. " Our church is Orthodox. It must have priests. We will not be satisfied until all churches in China have priests, " Metropolitan Hilarion said. The Chinese Orthodox Church is " not some foreign church structure, but it is a national church, which was established certainly with the help of Russian missionaries in the 18th and 19th centuries, and became a national church in the 18th century, " he said. " The Orthodox Church of China is not some project imposed on us from outside. It was born in the depth of the Chinese Orthodox community, which is small, but is strongly committed to its faith. And I hope that this understanding will keep growing from now one, " the metropolitan said. Interfax 20 мая 2013 г. ... His Holiness Patriarch Kirill addresses the U.N., the European Council, and the OSCE concerning facts of persecution against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in besieged southeast Ukraine. Moscow, August 20, 2014      On August 18, 2014 His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia addressed a letter to the United Nations, the European Council, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, in which he enumerates brazen violations of the rights of the clergy and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church during the present military conflict in southeast Ukraine. The head of the Russian Orthodox Church has informed these higher organizations of the great concern the Russian Orthodox Church has regarding continual attempts by Uniates (also known as Greek-Catholics) and schismatics, who are taking advantage of the military conflict in the southeastern part of the Ukraine to bring destruction upon canonical Orthodoxy in that besieged country. In his letter, the Patriarch informed these international organizations of the tragic deaths of a number of clergymen of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church who became victims of the armed internecine conflict. He also directs their attention to outrageous incidents of violence against the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and continual attempts to pressure and frighten representatives of the clergy. He notes the serious material losses inflicted on churches and monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which during armed conflicts have become the last haven for the many thousands of refugees who have received help within the walls of these churches and monasteries. In his letter, His Holiness expressed his hope that these higher international organizations will not remain indifferent to the problems facing the Ukrainian Orthodox Church—the largest religious organization in the Ukraine, which in its political neutrality and under extremely difficult conditions continues to carry out its pastoral care for millions of the faithful. The chief hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church is calling upon the leaders of the U.N., the European Council, and the OSCE to raise their voices of authority to protect the Orthodox Christians of the Eastern Ukraine. 20 августа 2014 г. A Russian Orthodox Church Will Be Built in Chile " s Second-Largest City/Православие.Ru A Russian Orthodox Church Will Be Built in Chile " s Second-Largest City January 22, 2013 Concepcion is Chile’s second-largest city with a population of 1.5 million. Among the Orthodox Christians living there are Russian emigres of the post-World War II period and their descendants, Russian and Ukrainian immigrants after the fall of the USSR, Palestinians, as well as Chilean converts. Orthodox services have become a regular occurrence since March, 2006, in a building in the Arab section known as Estadio Arabe. They are conducted mostly in Spanish, some prayers are read in Church Slavonic and Arabic. Concepcion’s Protopriest Alexei Aedo Vilugron of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia conducts the services. The parish belongs to ROCOR’s South American Diocese under His Grace Bishop John of Caracas and South America. Fr Alexei is Chilean by birth, having accepted Orthodox Christianity with his heart and soul. By his efforts and persistence, his focus and a great deal of labor, with reliance on God’s help, work on building the first-ever Orthodox Church in the south of Chile commenced in August 2011. The consecration of the cornerstone and erection of a cross on the site of the future church was performed by Vladyka John on December 5, 2010, in the presence of representatives of the local authorities and of the Russian Embassy. The Palestinian community of Concepcion donated the parcel of land for the church (costing approximately US and measuring 758 sq. m.). Donations by the parishioners covered all the expenses of the preliminary construction stages (planning and documentation). In July 2011, the community received aid from the Chilean government in the amount of 30M pesos (about The funds covered closing the perimeter of the property, excavations, foundation (1.5 m deep and 1.1 m wide), and the metal framework for the walls. Concepcion is in within Chile’s earthquake zone: the last earthquake, which struck in February 2010, measured 8.8 on the Richter Scale. For this reason, construction standards here are stringent and costly. Construction has been temporarily halted due to a lack of funds. St. Alexis, a Resolute Zealot for Orthodoxy/Православие.Ru St. Alexis, a Resolute Zealot for Orthodoxy Archimandrite Luke (Murianka) " On May 6, 2014 Archimandrite Luke delivered a lecture at St. Mary " s Cathedral (OCA) in Minneapolis, MN. The talk was part of an annual Saint Alexis (Toth) lecture series sponsored by the St. Mary " s Boriss-Hansen Committee. St. Mary " s plays a significant role in the history of Orthodoxy in America. The Cathedral altar was consecrated by St. Patriarch Tikhon and St. Alexis was the pastor of the church. The parish hall, next to the church, is located where the first Russian Orthodox seminary once stood. St. Alexis is one of the great missionary confessors of the Orthodox Church and is lauded as such in Father Luke " s talk. " Text of Archimandrite Luke " s Lecture: St/Alexis (Toth) St. Alexis, a Resolute Zealot for Orthodoxy In light of contemporary ecumenical exchanges, dialogues, theological commissions, and dramatic statements frequently confusing and scandalizing the Orthodox faithful, we need to pause a moment and refresh our memory with the image of a prophet zealous for the Lord " s truth found in the person of St Alexis, who not only resembles an Old Testament prophet but is equal in spirit to great luminaries such as Sts. Athanatious the Great, Cyril of Alexandria, Photios the Great, and Averky of Jordanville. Some might favor a different reading of his life, by excusing his words and actions as the result of a misunderstanding, an overreaction to circumstances, which we now might better understand through the prism of unfortunate historical events. What really inspired Fr. Alexis " actions and how would he would have reacted to the presentation of the facts of his life through our compromising contemporary attitudes, may be discerned from his life and writings. “St. Alexis was born in a Carpatho-Rusyn family of priests, both his father and brother were priests and his uncle was a bishop. Like most Carpatho-Rusyns of the time, the Toths were Eastern Rite-Uniate Catholics. After completing his seminary education, he married Rosalie Mihalich, the daughter of a priest in 1878, was ordained to the priesthood and assigned as the second priest in a Greek Catholic parish. While serving there, his wife and their only child died. The critical time of Father Toth " s life began with his arrival in America in November, 1889 to become the first pastor of the new Greek Catholic church in Minneapolis. Five weeks after his arrival, Father Toth met the local Roman Catholic bishop, Archbishop John Ireland. Learning that Father Toth had been married, the Archbishop refused to recognize him as a legitimate Catholic priest and forbade him to function as a priest anywhere in the Diocese.

Tweet Нравится Church complex in memory of A321 crash victims to be built in St. Petersburg St. Petersburg, October 27, 2016      On Wednesday the head of the St. Petersburg Committee for Urban Development and Architecture Vladimir Grigoryev informed journalists that St. Petersburg authorities are planning to build a church complex in memory of the A321 plane crash victims in the city’s Krasnoselsky neighborhood on the bank of the Matisov canal, reports the Interfax agency. “Following an appeal from the victims’ relatives we proposed a place which, in my judgment, is perfect for building a church. It’s an area set aside for building a noncommercial object. We considered it feasible to give a parcel of land from noncommercial parking for building the church. The investor reacted with great understanding and attention,” Vladimir Grigoryev said. On October 31, the first anniversary of the tragedy, a foundation stone will be laid on the site of the future church and a memorial cross will be blessed. There is as yet no information about the length of the construction project. The church will be built with funds from benefactors. The preliminary project envisages building a two-story church in basilica form. The actual church will be situated on the second floor where memorial prayers for crew members and passengers of the flight will be offered. The ground floor will have a spiritual and educational center, a Sunday school, a parish library, a children’s choir, and an Orthodox psychological service. On October 31, 2015, an airbus A321, operated by the Kogalymavia airline, crashed in the Sinai Peninsula en route from Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt) to St. Petersburg. All 224 people on board, including the crew members and passengers, were killed. Two weeks after the tragedy the Russian authorities classified the catastrophe as an act of terrorism, concluding that a bomb had detonated on board during the flight.
