Archive Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk: The most important task of the Church is to consolidate our unity 26 July 2021 year 10:52 Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk answered questions put by Yekaterina Gracheva, host of “The Church and the World” TV programme, and called the anticanonical and brigand actions of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, which have split the world Orthodoxy, the key challenge in the sphere of external activities of the Russian Orthodox Church.  The chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations underscored: “The developments we faced in 2018 have split the whole Orthodox Church. This schism is exacerbating because of the Patriarch of Constantinople’s actions.” “This is a great tragedy, but, as I have said many times, this schism is developing outside of our Church. We deplore it and we pray for Patriarch Bartholomew and other hierarchs who have lapsed into schism or supported it. We thank God for that schism has not affected our Church.  “Our bishops in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, and other countries in our canonical space and beyond it hold the same views and stand in full solidarity. During all these years our Church has lost no part of its canonical territory and none of our church buildings except those on which the Ukrainian schismatics had laid their violent hands, but even in those places we have built many new church buildings.” Besides, the DECR chairman added, in 2019 there was restored the unity with the Archdiocese of Parishes of the Russian Tradition in Western Europe that were in the Patriarchate of Constantinople’s jurisdiction for a long time. The Metropolitan is convinced that “the main church-wide task is to consolidate our unity.” He underscored that the most important responsibility of the Department he heads is to guard the sacred borders of the Russian Orthodox Church and to prevent any possible encroachment on its heritage that has been forming over centuries. “What is going on outside our Church will weight on the conscience of people committing anticanonical actions. They have already disgraced themselves by these actions here and, most certainly, will account for them in the future life,” said Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk. When he was at the gates of Damascus, Saul from Tars, the persecutor, later on Saint Paul the Apostle understood that it was a living relationship between Christ, the Lord, and those who believed in Him, and that when the Church, namely the Body of Christ, suffered, Christ suffered too”, the Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church explained. While speaking about the preaching of these Saints Apostles, the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church showed that the people were hostile to them and that they suffered a lot because of their faith in Christ, becoming models worthy following, examples of confessing the Gospel of Christ not only in good times, but also in times of persecution: “These great teachers of repentance become great missionaries too, people who enlighten the life of many pagans, who guide the confused ones, raise the fallen ones, and encourage the disappointed ones. Saint Peter the Apostle and Saint Paul the Apostle preached the Gospel of Christ in a hostile world, and they were imprisoned several times. (…) These imprisonments were complemented with many troubles, having been beaten and mocked. They suffered a lot, this fact showing that the world they were preaching in was against them very often either because of a formalist faith of the Jews or because of the pagan faiths. (…) Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles preached the Gospel in a hostile world, with much confusion from the point of view of the faith, of the life with much injustice. Nevertheless they were victorious through the power of God. (…) Today, these two great apostles, preachers, missionaries, teachers of repentance, as well as of courage, are enlighteners of the Church for us, who pray and urge us to preach the Gospel not only when everything is well, but also in times of persecution and hostility. To end with his speech, His Beatitude wished all those who were celebrating their name days joy and much help of God for keeping, transmitting, and intensifying faith: “Today about 500,000 Romanians are named Peter or Paul, the names of these Saints Apostles or of other names derived, which fact shows that our people have great devotion for these great Apostles whom we pray to protect and enlighten us to love Christ and the Church, to be confessors of the right faith, supporters of the Church and of her work in the world. We wish all those named Peter and Paul many years of life, good health, joy and much help of God for keeping, transmitting and intensifying the faith”. Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles are considered protectors of those deprived of liberty in Romania. 11 июля 2013 г. Something my great-grandfather did out of necessity, I hope to do by choice. He left his country to find new opportunities in another country; I hope to leave mine to represent it abroad. My goal is to be a Foreign Service Officer — a diplomat representing the United States. For my great-grandfather, life in the United States meant economic security, freedom and safety from the sectarian clashes of the old world. For me, the modern American life makes it difficult to build something enduring while racing from job-to-job and city-to-city searching for that elusive promise of economic security. The two pictures that I’ve seen of my great-grandfather are of an austere, well-mustachioed young man about my age and another from the late 1950s, as a wrinkly, smiling and proudly toothless old man bouncing my father on his lap. At the very least, it’s comforting to know that the life of an immigrant-soldier-autoworker can lead to happiness — which, when I’m feeling cynical, I think is restricted to those getting the “starting street” salary in their first year out of the Business School. I’ve never been to Lebanon. The country of my ancestors (for full disclosure, half of them) is still wracked by violence and plagued by a weak government. A century after my great-grandfather left Lebanon, the Maronites and Muslims have flipped demographics, but it’s still a very divided country with an unfortunate penchant for never-ending retaliatory rocket attacks. Eventually, maybe, I’ll get there. For now, it seems about as distant as America must have seemed to my great-grandfather. 3 октября 2013 г. ... Brest exhibition highlights Russian Orthodox Church during Great Patriotic War Brest, August 26, 2015 The exhibition " Russian Orthodox Church during the Great Patriotic war " was opened at the Russian Science and Culture Center in Brest, BelTA has learned. The exhibition presents the archival documents and photographs which used to belong to Patriarchs Sergius and Alexy I. Many documents have not been published before. This is the first time they have been made available to the general public as they were declassified just a few years ago. This makes the exhibition unique. It tells visitors about the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church during the war and its role in the international arena in the postwar years. “Before the war atheism was the main doctrine in the Soviet Union. Hitler also paid much attention to religious issues as he was planning to hold the occupied countries subjugated. On the first day of the war Patriarch Sergius typed a message calling on people to stand up to defend the homeland and sent it to all parishes,” Director of the Russian Science and Culture Center in Brest Yelena Maslova said. It is symbolic that the exhibition has been organized in 2015. This year marks 70th anniversary of the Great Victory and the 1000th anniversary of the repose of St. Prince Vladimir. “Hence we had the idea to show the role of Orthodoxy in the period of the Second World war. This topic is still not well researched,” added Yelena Maslova. " We know little about this common page in the history of Russians and Belarusians. The exhibition opens new facets of the history of the Great Patriotic War. Unselfish patriotic serving to the Church greatly contributed to the Victory,” Consul General of the Russian Federation in Brest Igor Konyakin said. The exhibition was prepared based on the materials of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 (Moscow). It also uses the copies of the documents and photos from the holdings of the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War. The exhibition in Brest will run until mid-October. 26 августа 2015 г. Комментарии Anthony 8 октября 2016, 11:00 Thank you Fr Peter. An absolutely brilliant, succinct erudite summation of why this heretical council must be rejected. The Church is in such desperate need of people like Fr Peter to bring us Truth when our own hierarchs are dragging us into an abyss with their heretical ecumenism. Of course the Church has always suffered being battered by enemies from within - in the former times it was the valiant minority - saints like Athanasios the Great and Mark of Ephesus who defended the purity of Dogma. Nowadays we have men like Father Peter doing the same thing. God bless him and all those who defend our Church. © 1999-2016 Православие.Ru

Your All-Holiness, highly esteemed and beloved president of this sacred gathering,Your Holinesses and Your Beatitudes, beloved primates of local Orthodox Churches,Your Eminences and Your Graces, brother hierarchs, gathered at this elevated sacred gathering, Very Reverend and Reverend Fathers, dear brothers and sisters, We express our gratitude to God Who has made us worthy of abundant grace to be the participants of this pan-Orthodox gathering here at the Ecumenical Patriarchate at Chambesy, that has as its aim a God-pleasing deed to define and unanimously prepare the Holy and Great Council of the Eastern Orthodox Church that has been prepared and expected for quite a long period of time. We firmly believe and resolutely confess that our Church is One and unique, that it is Holy, Apostolic and that it has its foundation in the living patristic Tradition, that becomes manifest through conciliar deliberations, the image of which we reflect being gathered like this here, but whose seal will be the Holy and Great Council of the Eastern Orthodox Church It is thanks to the grace and benevolence of the All-Holy Spirit that we have gathered here in brotherly love, following the example of our holy predecessors who have left us a bequest, starting with the first Apostolic council (Acts ch. 15), to deliberate with one another frankly and honestly about the most significant matters that pertain to the life of the Church – all of that in the spirit of the Holy Tradition of the Holy Orthodox Church, of the holy and great Church Fathers – our predecessors, and of the sacred canons of the Church of Christ. We assure you that we, the representatives of the local Serbian Church, are going to act wisely and soberly, investing all our efforts – both through prayer and through theological knowledge – so that this elevated gathering could achieve full success, and so that, consequently, we could whole-heartedly and zealously profess Orthodoxy in face of each others and the heterodox, whereby everybody will recognize us as His disciples (John 13:35). We are praying to the Lord, the Founder of the Church, that during the forthcoming days He may inspire us with the spirit of truth and love, and that His blessing may direct this gathering of ours to be inspired by charity, which is the bond of perfectness (Col 3:14), to the glory and benefit of our God-loving Orthodox faithful. Tweet Нравится Sunday of Orthodoxy Liturgy and Procession at Vatopedi Monastery (VIDEO) Source: Pemptousia March 15, 2017 The first Sunday of Great Lent is known as the Sunday or Triumph of Orthodoxy, in which victory over the iconoclasts, who opposed the veneration of the holy icons, is celebrated. The Church teaches that we can depict Christ in iconography because He became incarnate, taking on a visible body. Thus the icons are a safeguard to the dogma of the Incarnation. On this Sunday we process with holy icons, professing the triumph of Truth over falsehood. This video presents highlights of the Divine Liturgy and procession with the holy icons on the Sunday of Orthodoxy, 2017, at the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi. Pemptousia 23 марта 2017 г. Elder Ephraim came to America in response to the pleas of the faithful to provide this guidance, but in doing so many questions have been raised concerning the nature of Orthodox monasticism and teachings. To assess his role and importance for American Orthodoxy it is helpful to investigate his life and spiritual development, which will provide insight into him whom Metropolitan Hierotheos Vlachos says “received fire, and ... has imparted this fire ... to the Church in America that has great need of it.” The Great and Holy Monastery of Vatopaidi The Great and Holy Monastery of Vatopaidi December 17/30 the holy Orthodox Church commemorates Sts.
