| Archive DECR representative attends 6th International Interreligious Youth Forum 30 September 2019 year 20:43 The 6 th International Interreligious Youth Forum began its work in Manas, Republic of Dagestan, on 30 September 2019. It was organized by the Russian Orthodox diocese of Makhachkala, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Dagestan (SAMRD) the Council of Jewish Communities in Dagestan, and the Ministry for ethnic policy and religious affairs of the Republic. Over one hundred and fifty religious leaders, statesmen and young representatives of religious communities from different regions of Russia and foreign countries attended.. Deacon Iliya Kashitsyn, a staff member of the DECR secretariat for interreligious relations, took part in the forum with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and read out the message of greetings from Metropolitan Hilarion at the opening session. The participants visited the religious and educational centre under construction by the SAMRD and planted trees. That same day representatives of the Synodal departments and Orthodox guests visited the Cathedral of the Dormition and were received by Archbishop Varlaam of Makhachkala and Grozny. On October 2, a conference on the ways leading to ethno-confession peace and accord was held. The DECR representative took part in the section ‘Experience of traditional confessions in the Republic in ideological countering extremism and terrorism in the context of the 1999 events in Dagestan.’ He told the audience about the grounds of successful propaganda of extremism among young people, noting the key role of religious education in the formation of true culture of interreligious relations. The conference continued its work at the Republican House of Friendship. Several hundred of students of the Dagestan leading educational institutions attended. It is the Church’s responsibility to understand the Traditions under which the books were written. It is the Church’s responsibility to understand the Literary context (Poetry etc.) under which these books were written. Example, (The Gospel of John is Poetic in script.) Ignoring any one of these four (4) perspectives when reading and interpreting the Scripture will invariably lead one to the wrong conclusion. That, gentlemen, is the reason and necessity for the Church.” I have remembered very little specifics of that term’s class on Scripture but for his opening statement. However, I have never forgotten the Enthusiasm, Patience and Love in which it was presented on that first day. It became the foundation for which I have viewed the Scriptures ever since, and my basis of understanding of the Orthodox Christian Church. I have recently written a historical Christian action/adventure novel that is set in the year 120 AD. As you probably know, the New Testament Scriptures were not disseminated because they were held close to the particular churches. I believe that the story was inspired by GOD; not as a doctrine but as a literary journey into what life was like before Catholicism and the Reformation. Thus, leading me to venture into the realms of Orthodox Christianity because of my research. However, the orthodox that I discovered was a rich historical presentation of how the Gospel was presented to those that were not of the Jewish and Hebrew tradition. I have absolutely no training in Orthodoxy, but my lean is towards Orthodoxy. Go figure. You present some very interesting points, while subtlety addressing some of the fundamental practices of Jewish and Hebrew traditions such as Passover, and the many feast that were celebratory. The studio director Gennady Sokolov was much impressed by the fortress, including the Garrison Cathedral. Help was offered to restore the paintings on the walls and ceilings of the Church. Only fragments survive. The initiative was supported by the Russian Consul General in Brest, Nikita Matkovsky. Nikita Nikolaevich stressed: " The fortress in Brest is the common heritage of both the Belorussian and Russian peoples. We have a moral duty to preserve this holy place for our descendants. Wherever it is possible to restore what has been lost, it must be restored. The recreation of paintings inside the Cathedral is one example. I am very glad that the idea was put forward by the Grekov Studio who are true specialists. Amateurs should not be allowed to approach such a place " . On Wednesday March 20, icon restorers from Moscow, members of the Grekov Moscow military painters " Studio, took measurements in the St. Nicholas Garrison Cathedral in the fortress in Brest. As a result of this work, the wall paintings in the Cathedral can be restored, reports the Pravoslavie.by website. After Brest, the restorers face painstaking work in the records in Moscow and St Petersburg—it may be possible to find photographs or drawings depicting the Cathedral interior. In any case, the new wall paintings will match the authentic ones as far as possible. As a result of the research a design for the restoration of the wall paintings will be drawn up, using 3D technology. If restoration does take place, it will be carried out using a " silicate painting " technique. This technique uses porous material on a liquid glass base, which is impervious to moisture and will not let the painting crumble. |

| Archive Moscow Patriarchate’s community in Cancún, Mexico, celebrates its first anniversary on the feast of Theophany 23 January 2020 year 16:53 A year ago the Orthodox citizens of the city of Cancún, Mexico, appealed to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, asking for his blessing, as they intended to establish a parish of the Russian Orthodox Church. The Moscow Patriarchate’s Administration for Institutions Abroad instructed the acting administrator of the Patriarchal parishes in the USA, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, to render assistance in organizing regular divine services for the community members and to explore a possibility for opening a parish in Cancún. Throughout 2019, with the blessing of Bishop Matthew, Rev. Kirill Chacon, rector of the Church of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God in Mexico, visited the community of the faithful in Cancún, where at a local Catholic church, with the kind permission of Bishop Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cárdenas of Cancún-Chetumal, he celebrated the Divine Liturgy and administered Sacraments and rites. On 19th January 2020, the feast of the Holy Theophany, with the blessing of Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, Rev. Mark Rashkov, chancellor of the Patriarchal parishes in the USA, visited Cancún and in concelebration of Rev. Kirill Chacon celebrated the Divine Liturgy and performed the rite of the Great Blessing of Water. After the divine service Father Mark greeted all the worshippers with the feast of Theophany and conveyed to them blessings and warm wishes from Bishop Matthew of Sourozh. Acting on the instruction of the archpastor, Fr. Mark presented Rev. Kirill with a medal in commemoration of the centenary of the restoration of the Patriarchate in the Russian Orthodox Church and thanked him for taking pastoral care of the Russian Church’s believers in Mexico. That same day later Priests Mark and Kirill met with Msgr. Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cárdenas, Bishop of Cancún-Chetumal, expressing their appreciation for providing on a gratis basis a church building to the Orthodox community for celebrating divine services. Fr. Mark conveyed to the Bishop of Cancún-Chetumal Christmas greetings from Bishop Matthew of Sourozh and presented him with the ‘Eleousa’ Icon of the Mother of God. | Archive An exhibition dedicated to St. Luke (Voyno-Yasenetsky) has opened in Monaco 1 February 2022 year 10:25 On January 28, 2022, the vernissage of the exhibition " Saint Luke of Crimea " was held at the Agora Diocesan House of the Principality of Monaco. The exhibition, held under the high patronage of the Archbishop of Monaco, is organized by the local community of the Russian Orthodox Church - the parish in honor of the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers. The exposition presents personal items and valuable documents that belonged to St. Luke (Voino-Yasenetsky): manuscripts of works, speeches and sermons, drawings, photographs, as well as an inkwell, a pencil box and other personal belongings of the holy saint of God. The opening ceremony began with a speech by the Archbishop of Monaco, Dominique-Marie David, who addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. Later, the Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe, Metropolitan Anthony of Chersonesus and Western Europe delivered a welcoming address. Then the floor was given to the rector of the Parish of the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers in Monaco, Archpriest Vadim Zakrevsky, who spoke about the main milestones in the life of St. Luke of Crimea. The event was attended by the Head of the Cabinet of Prince Albert II L. Anselmi, Director of the Department of National Education, Youth and Sports of Monaco I. | A Fountain of Love Speech given at the opening of a new monument to Alexander Pushkin, May 26, 2012, in Howell NJ Julian Henry Lowenfeld, translator and playright, has a lifelong love for Alexander Pushkin, Russia " s all-time favorite poet. His landmark translation of poems by Pushkin, entitled, My Talisman , drew the attention of Pushkin admirers in both Russia and America. At the unveiling of a new monument to Alexander Pushkin in Howell, New Jersey, Julian was asked to give a speech. Фонтан любви , фонтан живой ! Fountain of love, Fountain alive! Принес я в дар тебе две розы As gift to you I’ve brought two roses. Above all else in life we must be grateful. Pushkin once wrote to Zhukovsky: call me crazy, call me eccentric, but just don’t ever call me ungrateful.” We essentially lose what we have when we forget to be grateful for it. I therefore wish to thank Alexander Bondarev and the Russian Cultural Center “Rodina” for working so tirelessly to have this monument erected. I also wish to take this opportunity to publicly thank my marvelous Russian teacher Nadyezhda Semyonovna Braginskaya, whose birthday today is. God is my witness how much she did for me, and with what love, affection, and patience, she gave of herself in teaching this wayward and unruly “Mowgli” as she sometimes used to call me, teaching me to love the Russian culture with all my heart. Nadyezhda Semyonovna was unable to come today, but requested that I pass along to you not just that “Pushkin is our all”, and the shining lodestar of Russian literature, but he was and still remains the Russian people’s poet, though he was an aristocrat of very ancient lineage. He combined within himself the honor, brilliance, and dignity of the Russian nobility with that unfathomable “universal sympathy of the Russian soul”. His harmony is ever full of our faith’s core values: warmth and compassion, for which we must ever strive with dedicated astonishment. These days, unfortunately, we not all of us strive towards that warmth. When “producers” have supplanted artists, and “ratings” have replaced aesthetics, when on the boob tube the wine of poetry is ever transmuted into the intellectual Coca-Cola of cheap thrills, as thoughts of money and money only cheapen the very meaning of art, naturally more and more you hear the doubts: “Does Pushkin really matter anymore?” |
