The Church would like people to replace Yoga with Prayer June 17, 2015 The Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church reacted to the UN’s decision to designate June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014. The Holy Synod’s statement says that the practice of yoga has “no place in the lives of Christians” since it is a fundamental aspect of Hinduism and as such is not considered a “form of exercise” but of worship! Though praised for its calming effect and wellness, Christians are urged to seek the same comfort in God – not hindu practises. After all, the postures of yoga were created as adulation to 330 million Hindu gods. The postures are viewed in the Hindu faith as offerings to gods that in Christianity are considered to be idols. Furthermore, a third of yoga is concerned with emptying the mind – a contradiction to what Christianity teaches. In the Christian faith, there is free choice and transformation through renewal. Furthermore, astral travel that yoga guides people into is a practise that the church continues to frown upon. “For this reason, yoga is totally incompatible with our Christian Orthodox faith and it has no place in the life of Christians,” the statement said, even though it added that the the Church respects religious freedom. The journey took them through major cities—Tirana, Korça, and Durrës—and to hubs of Orthodox Christian activity, including parishes, monasteries, orphanages, and conference centers. The seminarians—Jason Ketz, Logan Johnson, Fr. Raphael Barberg, and Bruce Lawrence— traveled under the auspices of the Missions Institute of Orthodox Christianity, a center directed by Fr. Luke. A. Veronis and situated on the campus of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, MA. Seminarians from Holy Cross also comprised part of the missionary group to Albania. Archpriest Chad Hatfield, chancellor and CEO at St. Vladimir’s, will teach a course on missiology during the Fall 2010 semester on our seminary campus, concentrating particularly on the “Orthodox-centric” method of missiology. | T. Akcam: “Christians in Turkey are in danger” March 13, 2012 Turkish historian and sociologist Taner Akcam gave an interview to Turkish Taraf daily. During the interview he also spoke about the protest action devoted to “Khojalu genocide” which took place in Istanbul, Taksim Square. During the protest the participants held Fascism posters and sounded mottos. As the Turkish historian underlined Turks must face with those events which are connected with Christians otherwise Turkey will never become more democratic. “100 th anniversary of Armenian Genocide is coming and the leading “Justice and development” party shows that it can use Fascism. If you press me, I will use Khojalu and Azerbaijani issue”, T. Akcam considers that this is the message of the action. He advised to look a glance to the deeper past before they would refer to Khojalu. “First of all a citizen named Hrant Dink was killed in that state. People who were accused in his murder were protected by the authorities. 10 days before the Khojalu meetings the municipality supporters spread posters with a note ”do not believe in Armenians’ lies”,” he said. According to Akcam those posters also spread hatred against Armenians. “Then a protest action took place with the participation of the Ministry of Inner Affairs. Participants called we all are Ogyut Samasts and they claimed those “who all are Hrant Dinks”, Turkish historian says and asks: “If there were posters in Berlin with a note “do not believe in Turkish lies” what would he do”? Answering to the question which the main meaning of the protest action devoted to Khojalu was in real, the historian said: “The action showed that Armenian citizens are not in safe in Turkey. Minister of Inner Affairs of the state is responsible for the security of Armenian citizens as well but he participates in an action which says “the blood will not remain on the ground”. This means that Christians in Turkey are in danger”. Note every year Azerbaijan uses “Khojalu events” as a measure of propaganda against Armenians. But Azerbaijani fake myths on the issue are mostly discovered and the world has already seen that Azerbaijani authorities have just used “Khojalu events” as a measure to get authority and now it used as a measure to spread hatred against Armenians. In April 2014 former deputy of the French Parliament and leader of the Christian Democratic Party of France, seventy-year-old Christine Boutin, gave an interview to the journal “Charles” in which she was asked what she thought of homosexual relations. As a committed Christian the politician responded, referring to the words from the Holy Scriptures: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination (Lev. 18:22). The politician also noted that she had “never judged homosexuals.” She stressed that sin is inacceptable, but we need to accept sinners. On the grounds of these words two French LGBT associations sued her for “public incitement to hatred and violence.” Two years later the Paris court of appeals upheld the fine of 5,000 euros imposed on Boutin. The deputy is also obliged to pay 2,000 euros to two LGBT associations which filed a lawsuit against her. The representatives of the French LGBT community declared that “the judicial power of France has sent a clear-cut message to society.” As for Christine Boutin, she holds that she had every right to set forth her opinion on homosexuality.
