– We consider the appointment of exarchs of the Patriarchate of Constantinople to Ukraine as an invasion of this Church in the canonical territory of the Moscow Patriarchate, which is a grave violation of church law. The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has appealed to the Primates of Local Orthodox Church to hold a pan-Orthodox discussion on the Ukrainian problem. I know that this appeal has been met with a response from Primates. We are still ready for dialogue. And we will use every opportunity for explaining patiently to our opponents the tragic danger of the steps they are taking in Ukraine.  Reluctant as I am to speak about it, but if these steps lead to entering into communion with the schismatics, we will have to rupture fully the Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople. – The Orthodox flock in the whole world are following the developments in the Ukrainian problem with evident concern. Through centuries the Ecumenical and the Moscow Patriarchates have walked hand in hand every time overcoming arising difficulties. Is not what unites you bigger and firmer that what disunites you? – The Lord Jesus Christ said to His disciples,  Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other  (Mk. 9:50). We have always believed and continue to believe that the Holy Orthodox faith uniting our Churches will ultimately prevail over the present differences, which have been brought about by attempts at the interference of the powers of this world in church life. Nevertheless, the preservation of our common Orthodox witness demands common efforts today in the name of the maintenance of the old canonical order, which, to our great grief, is being destroyed now by unilateral actions of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.      Your All-Holiness, highly esteemed and beloved president of this sacred gathering,Your Holinesses and Your Beatitudes, beloved primates of local Orthodox Churches,Your Eminences and Your Graces, brother hierarchs, gathered at this elevated sacred gathering, Very Reverend and Reverend Fathers, dear brothers and sisters, We express our gratitude to God Who has made us worthy of abundant grace to be the participants of this pan-Orthodox gathering here at the Ecumenical Patriarchate at Chambesy, that has as its aim a God-pleasing deed to define and unanimously prepare the Holy and Great Council of the Eastern Orthodox Church that has been prepared and expected for quite a long period of time. We firmly believe and resolutely confess that our Church is One and unique, that it is Holy, Apostolic and that it has its foundation in the living patristic Tradition, that becomes manifest through conciliar deliberations, the image of which we reflect being gathered like this here, but whose seal will be the Holy and Great Council of the Eastern Orthodox Church It is thanks to the grace and benevolence of the All-Holy Spirit that we have gathered here in brotherly love, following the example of our holy predecessors who have left us a bequest, starting with the first Apostolic council (Acts ch. 15), to deliberate with one another frankly and honestly about the most significant matters that pertain to the life of the Church – all of that in the spirit of the Holy Tradition of the Holy Orthodox Church, of the holy and great Church Fathers – our predecessors, and of the sacred canons of the Church of Christ. We assure you that we, the representatives of the local Serbian Church, are going to act wisely and soberly, investing all our efforts – both through prayer and through theological knowledge – so that this elevated gathering could achieve full success, and so that, consequently, we could whole-heartedly and zealously profess Orthodoxy in face of each others and the heterodox, whereby everybody will recognize us as His disciples (John 13:35). We are praying to the Lord, the Founder of the Church, that during the forthcoming days He may inspire us with the spirit of truth and love, and that His blessing may direct this gathering of ours to be inspired by charity, which is the bond of perfectness (Col 3:14), to the glory and benefit of our God-loving Orthodox faithful. Religious leaders commend ‘wisdom’ in FM visit to Bethlehem/Православие.Ru Religious leaders commend ‘wisdom’ in FM visit to Bethlehem By Hani Hazaimeh Amman, January 10, 2011 Jordan " s participation in the Christmas celebrations of the Eastern churches in Bethlehem last week set an example of coexistence, tolerance and solidarity with the Christians, Muslim and Christian leaders said on Saturday. Following His Majesty King Abdullah " s directives, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Thursday joined the Orthodox congregations celebrating the birth of Christ at Bethlehem’s Church of Nativity, conveying a message of solidarity from the King and the Jordanian people to Christians in the occupied lands and the region. " The minister " s participation in the event reasserts the attention and care the Hashemites attach to the holy Christian places, and is a message of love and solidarity from the King to Christians in Palestine and the rest of the world, " Father Nabil Haddad, head of the Jordanian Interfaith Coexistence Research Centre, told The Jordan Times yesterday. The message Judeh’s visit carried is vital as it is addressed to Christians, who constitute an essential component of Arab society and its cultural and social fabric, Haddad added. The timing is also important, especially since the visit reflects Jordan’s rejection and denouncement of all sorts of violence against the Christian places of worship, which have been escalating lately in Iraq and Egypt. During the visit, Anba Abraha of the Egypt-based Coptic Orthodox Church expressed his appreciation for the role of King Abdullah and the Hashemite family in the protection of the holy places of Christianity, saying such gestures underline a true belief in interfaith dialogue on the part of the Jordanian leadership. Professor of Comparative Religion at the Al al Bayt University Amer Hafi told The Jordan Times that the visit also pinpoints “Jordan’s special connection with the Palestinian cause as well as the relationship between the Muslims and Christians in Jordan and the Palestinians territories”.

Michael Prokurat, Alexander Golitzin, Michael D. Peterson Скачать epub pdf ECCLESIOLOGY ECCLESIOLOGY. The word means the study or rationale of the Church. Never rigorously discussed in its own right in the earlier centuries, the Church emerged a theological subject of first importance only in the 20th c. and as a result of the ecumenical movement (q.v.). Orthodox theologians in this century, following and attempting to articulate the hints present in the New Testament and Church Fathers (q.v.), have sought to define the Church fundamentally as sacrament, i.e., as the presence in this world and communication of the Kingdom of God, the body of the risen Christ animated by the Holy Spirit (q.v.). In particular Russian theologians such as Nikolai Afanasiev, Georges Florovsky, Joh n Meyendorff, and Alexander Schmemann, together with Greeks such as Joh n Zizioulas and the Romanian Dumitru Staniloae (qq.v.), have advanced an ecclesiology based on the Eucharist (q.v.) as central-to the other sacraments (q.v.) and the Church’s historical self-understanding, e.g., the evolution of the three sacred orders (sacramental ministers). The contribution of these men has been admired by and influenced other Christians, notably Roman Catholics; but they have raised the legitimate question that Eucharistic ecclesiology does not address the political reality of the universal Church, i.e., the Christian Church is a worldwide society whose unity requires an officer charged with the responsibility for the whole. They see this office in the “petrine ministry” exercised by the papacy (q.v.). The question of primacy is perhaps the burning issue facing the Orthodox Church as it approaches the 21st c. The old relations between Church and state (q.v.) that obtained in the Christian East up until the opening of the 20th c., wherein the Church’s unity was in great part the responsibility of the Christian state, now no longer apply. Recent initiatives on the part of the Ecumenical Patriarch (q.v.) allow some hope that contemporary Orthodoxy is moving toward a possible resolution of the question. Patriarch Kirill greets 5th International Russian-Georgian Poetry Festival Moscow June 6, 2011 The 5 th International Russian-Georgian Poetry Festival is held from June 6-15, 2011, in the Georgian cities of Batumi, Poti, Kutaisi and Tbilisi. About 100 authors from over 30 countries attend. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has sent following message of greetings to the organizers, participants and guests of the festival: Dear Brothers and Sisters, I cordially greet the poets, people of letters and all the guests of the 5 th International Russian-Georgian Poetry Festival. Holy Fathers of the Church would present the most sublime theology in the form of verses and the greatest of poets would praise the Creator in their works, admiring His creation. The human soul has always sought to embody things good, beautiful and eternal in the word, and poetry as the art that gives the fullest expression to the potential of language offers a master a multitude of resources for expressing the subtlest tinges of emotions. Sharing their permanent love of the human word and devout desire to serve the Word of God, the great Russian and Georgian cultures have given the world literature a whole pleiad of remarkable poets and artists of the thought. Now you as posterity of Pushkin and Rustaveli, Lermontov and Baratashvili, are to continue these glorious traditions in a worthy way. United by the faith of Christ, our peoples are tied by the bonds of spiritual brotherhood which cannot be broken by any hardships, troubles or trials, for there is no more solid foundation for friendship than common prayer and love of the truly beautiful. It is my conviction that in this unity of the spirit lies out authentic history and our future. Invoking God’s blessing on you all, I wish the participants and guests of the festival fortitude and further successful creative achievements. + Kirill Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia DECR Communications Services 7 июня 2011 г. ... It must be pointed out that Palestinian Christians have long played a leading role in in the Palestinian national project, alongside their Muslim brethren. Palestinian Christian leaders have demonstrated their commitment to the cause and many have left their mark on the course of the Palestinian struggle and the more contemporary Palestinian revolution. Among the prominent examples of such influential figures is Dr George Habash, known as the founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Other leading figures were Edward Said and Dr Wadih Haddad, known for being the leader of he Popular Front of the Liberation of Palestine " s foreign operations branch and the vice-president of the Palestinian National Council during the Palestinian Liberation Organisation " s earlier years. We cannot forget that many of the cause " s leaders were among the Palestinian Christians living in the 1948 territories during the early years following the Nakba. Many of them led battles to defend their right to stay inside Israel and contributed to Palestinian resistance and were very persistent in making changes on the ground. One must also mention other prominent Palestinian Christians such as Tawfiq Toby from Haifa, famous writer Emile Habibi and historian Emile Toba. There are also figures like Shehadeh Shehadeh, who is known for his work as the head of the Committee for Land Defence, lawyer Hanna Naqara, writer and poet Hanna Ibrahim, thinker Elias Choufani and the leaders of the Land Movement, which started in the Galilee in the 60s as a way to confront the occupation and its oppressive policies. Among the members of the Land movement were: Mansour Kardoush, Boulus Farah and Habib Qawaji among others. 5 июля 2014 г. It is hard to imagine how a palestinian state could exist with christians and muslims both citizens in there....not likely since muslims have always persecuted christians....I do not see why any christian would support muslims over and against Israel given that christians have not been persecuted by Israel nearly as much as by muslims....

Pennsylvania: Archimandrite Athanasy (Mastalski) reposed in the Lord Source: Eastern American Diocese (ROCOR) February 6, 2016      On Friday, February 6, Archimandrite Athanasy (Mastalski), longtime rector of Joy of All Who Sorrow Church in Philadelphia, PA, reposed in the Lord. He was 69 years old. Fr. Athanasy was born on June 24, 1946 in Philadelphia. In 1975, he was ordained a deacon, and in the following year a priest, by Archbishop Nikon (Rklitsky). In December 1978, Metropolitan Philaret performed Fr. Athanasy’s monastic tonsure. Hieromonk (and later Abbot) Athanasy led Joy of All Who Sorrow parish in Philadelphia for many years; he served in Holy Protection Church in New Brunswick, NJ and St. Nicholas Church in Red Bank, NJ, as well as at the convents in the Holy Land – Holy Ascension on the Mount of Olives and the Gethsemane Convent. In December 2005, Metropolitan Laurus elevated Fr. Athanasy to the rank of archimandrite. For many years, Archimandrite Athanasy was the guardian of the myrrh-streaming icon of the Holy Righteous Anna, Mother of the Most Holy Theotokos, with which he traveled to a multitude of churches and monasteries in the dioceses of the Russian Church Abroad. The holy image was painted in the Mount of Olives Convent by Nun Mastridia, and began to stream myrrh in the United States. It was well known that the future priest fell in his childhood and was very badly hurt; he prayed to St. Anna, promising that, when he had the opportunity and the funds, he would order an icon of St. Anna. Archimandrite Athanasy spent the final years of his earthly life at St. Tikhon’s Monastery (OCA) in South Canaan, PA, where the services for the departed will be held. Tuesday, February 9 – Vespers & Matins at 16:30. Panihida – at 19:00. Wednesday, February 10 – Meeting of Metropolitan Tikhon, Divine Liturgy – at 9:00. The funeral will be served according to the monastic rite at 11:30 AM. Through the intercessions of the Most Holy Theotokos and the prayers of the Holy Righteous Anna, may the Lord grant blessed repose to the soul of His newly departed servant, the Archimandrite Athanasy, in the mansions of the righteous, and make his memory to be eternal!
