Facebook group established to help transport Holy Fire throughout America Moscow, April 25, 2017 Photo: Facebook.com      A new group appeared on Facebook on April 21, dedicated to transporting the Holy Fire throughout America. The group, “ Come Receive the Holy Fire! ” was created by Fr. Patrick O’Rourke, associate priest at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in New Rochelle, NY. “The sole purpose of this group is to facilitate the spread of the Holy Fire as far as possible, and to as many people as possible,” Fr. Patrick writes in the group. Photo: Facebook.com Fr. Patrick and other members of the group have been posting with updates of where the Fire has reached. For instance, one post shows images of the Holy Fire in Romanian, Antiochian, Carpatho-Russian, Greek, and Serbian churches in the Washington, DC area. A map has been set up indicating churches that have already received the Holy Fire, and people who are interested in bringing the Fire to their churches. Contact information is provided for users to contact one another and coordinate transporting the Holy Fire from one parish or monastery to another. Thus far, the map shows churches in the Northeast having the Fire, with people throughout the country hoping to bring it to their communities. To help coordinate bringing the blessing of the Holy Fire to Orthodox churches throughout the United States, please visit and join the Facebook group “ Come Receive the Holy Fire! ” The Holy Fire was brought to America this year by the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation and the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society. It was ceremoniously greeted at New York’s JFK airport and then officially taken to several Russian Orthodox parishes in New York, and has been spreading out from there. This is the first year that the Holy Fire has been brought to America in such an official capacity, although several readers have reported that the Holy Fire has in fact come to America before. 25 апреля 2017 г. скрыть способы оплаты скрыть способы оплаты Смотри также Комментарии Philip Felts 25 апреля 2017, 23:46 I " ll be will to help drive it within 4 hour distance. Synaxis of the Hierarchs of Novgorod, Buried in the Cathedral of the Holy Wisdom (Hagia Sophia) in Novgorod Commemorated on February 10      The Synaxis of Novgorod Hierarchs is also celebrated on October 4 and on the third Sunday after Pentecost. On October 4, 1439 Saint John (September 7) appeared to the presiding hierarch Saint Euthymius (March 11) and ordered him to serve a special panikhida in memory of those buried at the Sophia cathedral (the Russian princes and Archbishops of Novgorod, and all Orthodox Christians) on the Feast of the Hieromartyr Hierotheus, first Bishop of Athens. Then the incorrupt relics of Saint John (September 7) were uncovered. Afterwards, the Synaxis was established to mark the glorification of the Novgorod hierarchs. E.E. Golubinsky says that because these hierarchs remained unknown at the time of their glorification, he determined this date for their common celebration was established in the period between the time of the Moscow Council of 1549 and the time of the formation of the Holy Synod (E.E. Golubinsky, History of the Canonization of Saints in the Russian Church. Moscow, 1903, p. 157). Included in the Synaxis of Novgorod hierarchs are: Saint Joachim of Korsun, first bishop of Novgorod (988-1030); Saint Luke the Jew, bishop (October 15, 1060); Saint Germanus, bishop (1078-1096); Saint Arcadius, bishop (September 18); Saint Gregory, archbishop (May 24, 1193); Saint Martyrius, archbishop (August 24, 1199); Saint Anthony, archbishop (October 8, 1231); Saint Basil the Lame, archbishop (July 3, 1352); Saint Simeon, archbishop (June 15, 1421); Saint Gennadius, archbishop (December 4); Saint Pimen, archbishop (1553-1571); Aphthonius, metropolitan (April 6, 1653). The relics of these saints were buried or transferred to Novgorod’s Sophia Cathedral (except for Saint Germanus, Saint Gennadius and Saint Pimen) therefore, in some sources their names are not included in the Synaxis. The October 4 celebration was established in connection with the memory of the holy Prince Vladimir Yaroslavich of Novgorod (+ 1052), and the February 10 Synaxis of the Novgorod hierarchs is celebrated in connection with the holy Princess Anna of Novgorod (+ 1056). Besides those mentioned, hierarchs who have separate commemorations are: Saint Nikita the Hermit, bishop (January 31); Saint Niphon, bishop (April 8); Saint John, archbishop (September 7); Saint Theoctistus, archbishop (December 23); Saint Moses, archbishop (January 25); Saint Euthymius, archbishop (March 11); Saint Jonah, archbishop (November 5); Saint Serapion, archbishop (March 16). Icon of St. Luke the Physician to be sent to International Space Station Moscow, March 16, 2017 Photo: Novospassky Monastery      On March 11 in the Church of St. Romanos the Melodist, in the tomb of the Romanov boyars, the vicar of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and deputy abbot of Moscow’s Novospassky Monastery Bishop Sava of Voskresensk blessed an icon of Holy Hierarch and Confessor Luke (Voino-Yasenetsky) the Physician of Simferopol which is to be sent to the International Space Station. The icon has since been sent to the Russian Federal Space Agency by the Institute of Biomedical Problems, and is scheduled to be sent to the space station from April till July 2017, reports the monastery’s website . The painting of the icon was complicated by the fact that for use on the space station, iconographers cannot use artificial colors. Thus the icon is covered only with an oil varnish instead of laquer. The delivery of the St. Luke icon to the International Space Station is possible thanks to the executive director of manned space programs of the state corporation “RosCosmos” (the Federal Space Agency) astronaut Sergei Konstantinovich Krikalev, who circled the earth more than 1,000 times on board Union TMA-6 in 2005 together with a copy of the miraculous Valaam Icon. The icon’s arrival and stay on the space station is timed to the 140th anniversary of St. Luke’s birth on May 9, 2017. St. Luke was a beloved bishop and physician who treated innumerable people, many of whom are still alive today. In 1946 he was awarded a first degree Stalin Prize, but was later subject to repressions, being exiled for eleven years. He was rehabilitated in April 2000, and later that same year was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in the assembly of Russian New Martyrs and Confessors. Today St. Luke is widely venerated throughout the Orthodox world, including Russia, Ukraine, Greece, and America and beyond. 16 марта 2017 г. Statement of Interreligious Council of Russia concerning the situation in the Ukraine/Православие.Ru Statement of Interreligious Council of Russia concerning the situation in the Ukraine Moscow, April 3, 2014 On April 3, 2014, in the Danilovskaya hotel, under the chairmanship of head of the Moscow Patriarchate " s Department for Church and Society Relations Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin a regular working session of the Interreligious Council of Russia took place. Moscow government representative A.A. Ignatenko, representative of Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation I.K. Korostelev were present at the event in addition to representatives of traditional faiths of Russia, reports Patriarchia.ru . The statement of the Interreligious Council of Russia concerning the situation in the Ukraine: " We, the heads and representatives of traditional religious communities of Russia, express our deep concern in connection with the ongoing events in the Ukraine. The Ukrainian and Russian peoples are united by the centuries-old common history, and inseparable spiritual, cultural and kindred relationships. Our fraternal nations must cherish this commonality and work towards its development. We categorically condemn the provocation of ethnic conflicts, the derivation of political dividends from the people " s suffering. We hope that no one ever manages to change the Ukraine into a state that is hostile to Russia. We also feel certain that the wise and freedom-loving Ukrainian nation must preserve its right to an independent choice of its historical path, of its own values, which cannot be torn from its many centuries’ history, its moral standards, its model of organization of economics, public and state life. It is also important to preserve the common cultural and spiritual space of the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). Respecting the right of all Ukrainian residents and various public groups to freely choose their path of development, we are calling all to do their best to peacefully and mutually acceptably settle the existing controversies and disagreements. We consider intolerable any language-related, ethnic, religious and political discrimination. It is the recognition of the full extent of the legal rights of various ethnic, regional and religious communities, including a right to participation in determination of fate of the whole state with respect for traditional values of the majority of the nation, that can prevent new sources of instability. We feel as if they are our own wounds the killing of people, the appearance of refugees, the increase of intolerance and mutual indifference in Ukrainian society, persecution of certain religious and social figures, threats to the normal functioning of monasteries, churches, mosques and synagogues.

Celebrations Marking 70th Anniversary of Liberation of Dachau Concentration Camp Take Place in Germany      On 3 May 2015, the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp took place in the territory of the former concentration camp. The commemorative events are traditionally held on the first Sunday after April 29. Taking part in the large-scale celebrations were representatives of Munich’s major religious organizations, as well as public and political figures, such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Minister-President of Bavaria, Horst Seehofer. This year the celebrations concurred with the 20th anniversary of consecration of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection, located in the territory of the former concentration camp. This church, built to commemorate all those compatriots who had guiltlessly suffered and died in the concentration camp, was the first place of worship of the Resurrection Parish of Dachau and Munich. As the website of the diocese of Berlin and Germany reports, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated there on May 3. Among those who were praying at the service were clergymen and lay people from the Orthodox parishes of Munich, Nuremberg, Ulm, and Kempten, as well as the Dachau camp survivors. After the service the clergymen led the worshippers in a procession with the cross.      The Dachau concentration camp was the fist concentration camp set up in Germany at the time of the Third Reich. It is notorious for severe tortures and medical experiments on prisoners. It was there, at the Hebertshausen shooting range, located two kilometers from the camp, that the mass shootings of the Soviet prisoners took place. The Dachau concentration camp was liberated on 29 April 1945. Soon after that, the Orthodox Christians, its former prisoners, gathered to celebrate the Paschal Liturgy in the territory of the camp. A writer and public figure of the Russian émigré community, Gleb Rahr, who was a Dachau prisoner himself, wrote about this Divine service in his memoirs. In 1945 the Orthodox Pascha was celebrated on the 6th of May, concurring with the commemoration day of St Geogre the Victory-Bearer. The faithful made vestments out of sanitary towels for 18 priests and a deacon. Praying at the service were the Serbs, the Russians, and the Greeks. Notwithstanding the squalid conditions, that Easter Liturgy was an unforgettable celebration which made the hearts of the liberated people rejoice. Nowadays the clergy and parishioners of the Resurrection Parish of Dachau and Munich (some of them are descendants of the Dachau prisoners) try to help preserve the memory of those who guiltlessly suffered and was killed in the Dachau concentration camp. Archive In Ivano-Frankovsk regions, marauders are plundering a monastery closed by authorities 2 May 2022 year 16:40 Marauders are gradually taking to pieces for firewood the Dukonya Monastery of the Holy Trinity. It is reported by Pravoslavnaya zhizn’ [Orthodox Life] website with reference to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Diocese of Chernovtsy and Bukovina. “Quite recently, Carpathians resounded with “Christ is Risen”, and the mountings echoed “Risen, Risen, Risen…”. But on March 9, 2022, the 23 year-long glorious history of the Dukonya Monastery of the Holy Trinity ended. The monks were evicted in the middle of winter by the authorities of the Ivano-Frankovsk Region. The Halychyna no longer needs the endless prayer of Orthodox monks. It is sad. The locals say that the wooden monastery is gradually taken to pieces for firewood and with time there will be only desolation at its place”, the report informs. The Dukonya monastery is located in the Carpathian Mountains at the height of 1534 meters. On March 8, 2022, a group of armed men forcibly took the abbot, Archimandrite Tit, and Novice Trofim out of the monastery. According to locals, they were brought to Verkhovina, where they were interrogated. As of today, all the churches and monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Diocese of Ivano-Frankovsk are forcibly closed and sealed up, except for the Cathedral of the Nativity in Ivano-Frankovsk. However, this church, too, is facing the threat of closure. In April, the priests and community of the cathedral, as well as the clergy and faithful of the diocese appealed to the head of state, asking him to defend them from the arbitrariness of the local authority. The appeal stated in particular that on April 4, the Ivano-Frankovsk mayor announced that the religious community of the cathedral had “voluntarily” changed its confessional affiliation and called upon the city-dweller to help the community move to “The Orthodox Church of Ukraine”. “We officially state and stress: neither the clergy nor the community of the cathedral made such a decision”, the document emphasized. The clergy and parishioners regarded the statement of the mayor as “a call to make the religious community change its subordination, otherwise the church will be taken by force”. Christian day-care worker fired after refusing to read pro-gay books to children London, April 24, 2014 Sarah Mbuyi A Christian child-care worker has been added to the growing list of workers who are discovering that their faith is no longer tolerated in polite society, she alleges. Sarah Mbuyi, who was employed by Newpark Childcare, a London-based organization, since last April, was terminated following a disciplinary meeting, prompted by a complaint by a lesbian co-worker. Her employers determined that she had harassed her co-worker, which behaviour, they concluded, amounted to ‘gross misconduct.’ During the disciplinary meeting she was asked her opinion on reading books to the children that featured same-sex parents. She stated that she would not be able to do so. It appears that Miss Mbuyi never hid her faith but had had at least a few conversations with the lesbian co-worker about it, even visiting her in the hospital after an accident and giving her a Bible. Mbuyi asserts that she stated her opinion on the Bible’s teaching about homosexuality only after being asked by the co-worker about it. “If I tell you that God is OK with that I am lying to you,” she stated – after being invited to express her opinion by her co-worker, in what she now recognizes was meant to provoke her. Mbuyi had added that God “does love you and says you should come to Him as you are.” At that point, she claims, the co-worker “became emotional and went off to report me to my manager. " She described her disciplinary hearing as “hopelessly one-sided because they put my accuser " s claims to me as fact, without any forewarning and so I wasn " t prepared. It seemed to me they had already made up their minds to justify sacking me, before hearing my side of the story.” Mguyi has charged Newpark Childcare with wrongful dismissal, asserting that she was fired for her religious beliefs. The suit comes just after British Prime Minister David Cameron controversially stated that “we should be more confident about our status as a Christian country, more ambitious about expanding the role of faith-based organisations, and, frankly, more evangelical about a faith that compels us to get out there and make a difference to people " s lives.” The prime minister, however, was the driving force behind the country’s same-sex “marriage” legislation, and has been accused of advocating a “fluffy” version of Christianity. Some people, like Andrea Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre, are seeing this as a test case for the Prime Minister’s words. The group is representing Miss Mbuyi in the case. “Sharing Biblical truths out of genuine love and concern for colleagues,” definitely meets the litmus test of civil discourse, Williams believes. 7 мая 2014 г.
