Michael Prokurat, Alexander Golitzin, Michael D. Peterson Скачать epub pdf IMPERIALISM IMPERIALISM. While the urge to dominate and build empires is universal among human beings and their societies, this term has a specific application to the history of the Orthodox Church. Inheriting the ideology of the Roman Empire as civilizer and pacifier of the world (see, for example, Virgil’s Aeneid), the newly Christian Empire under Constantine (q.v.) and his successors took over and promulgated a “baptized” version of this imperial theology. (See Church and State.) The oikoumene of Byzantium (qq.v.) theoretically embraced all Christians and sought-in theory, at least, and under Justinian (q.v.) in fact-to effect this dominion. Where possible, this was accomplished via the tools of diplomacy and armed force and, where impossible, through an elaborate hierarchy of titles bestowed by the imperial court on neighboring rulers. The latter, if only by a kind of fiction, preserved the theory of a family of nations presided over by the one emperor. Following the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Empire (qq.v.) in 1453, the universal claims of the Christian emperor found two claimants. Under the Sultans the Ecumenical Patriarch (q.v.) was given effective rule over all the formers’ Christian subjects. Later, with the advent of the Phanariots (q.v.) to power within the patriarchate, this rule was translated into an active Greek imperialism in the modern sense, leading to the suppression of the native hierarchies of the Empire’s Slavic and Romanian Orthodox subjects. The second claimant, the Russian tsar with the Church of Russia, displayed much the same policy of narrowly nationalist political and ecclesiastical conquest. All Orthodox within the tsardom were subjected to Russian political and ecclesiastical rule. These included the peoples of Western Rus’ (modern Ukraine and Belarus), Russian Moldavia (Bessarabia), and Georgia. One may note that the progress of the same imperial idea was different in the West. With the crowning of Charlemagne in 800, and the fabrication of the Donation of Constantine, the papacy laid claim to the presidency of the Christian oikoumene (qq.v.). It put these claims into effect during the Gregorian Reforms of the 11th-13th c. That the latter era was also the period which saw the definitive split between Orthodoxy and the Roman Catholic Church (q.v.) is not accidental. The two imperialisms in Orthodoxy (q.v.), Constantinopolitan and Muscovite, have come close to splitting the Church. The earlier competition between East and West succeeded in doing so. " Signing the Ukraine-EU association agreement in its present form means acceptance by the Ukraine of the obligation to follow the European policy of supporting homosexuality. Our demand is to exclude from the Ukraine-EU association agreement the reference to the 2000/78/EU directive which is for the benefit of the sexual minorities " ideology, " said one of the organizers of the action, leader of the " Love against homosexuality " organization Ruslan Kukharchuk to the journalists. The participants of the action have also expressed their view that the Ukrainian authorities do not wish to protect the traditional family values. " In order to protect the family, it is necessary, at least, to include additional terms into the agreement which exclude implementation in the Ukraine of the directives and regulations of the European law, dealing with the family law and the public ethics and especially concerning sexual orientation. Making a step towards the EU, the Ukraine has a right to demand safeguarding and defense of its basic values. In the agreement there are stipulations from the side of the Ukraine on land ownership, forest use and notarial practice, but there are no reservations regarding protection of family, defense from imposition of homosexuality. Why has this subject been ignored? We want to hear the answer from the Ukrainian government, from the president administration, and the Verkhovna Rada deputies, " said a representative of " The Ukrainian parents " committee " Alexander Skvortsov. The First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad Calls Upon the Mayor of Moscow to Remove Petr Voikov’s Name From the Map of the Capital August 12, 2015 His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, called upon Mayor Sergey Sobyanin of Moscow to remove the name of Petr Voikov, one of the organizers of the murder of the Royal Family, from the maps of the capital. “We know of your reasonable and constructive position on this serious and long-overdue matter. We pray and hope that the Municipality of Moscow adopt the only true, lawful and historically-founded decision to remove the name of Petr Voikov from the map of Moscow,” states the letter address to Mr Sobyanin. The existence of this name on the map of the capital “prevents the healing of wounds brought about by the Civil War, and enables the artificial support of division within the Russian people,” noted His Eminence. He pointed out that Voikov was “one of the darker and repulsive personas in the history of Russia, and we cannot find a single positive action in his life.” “Terrorism, the organization of the lawless and beastly vengeance against the defenseless Royal Family and their aides, then the hiding of evidence of this crime through the destruction of the remains of the executed bodies with fire and sulfuric acid, and the subsequent sale of the treasures of the Diamond Fund and the Hermitage’s holdings at a heavy discount are on the resume of this unprincipled and cruel man,” the letter states. The letter goes on to say that society has unsuccessfully been requesting the removal of Voikov’s name from the map of Moscow for a quarter century, and that “this evokes surprise among Russian people who live in various countries of the world, to foreigners with a friendly, positive and loving attitude towards Russia, who understand her role in the world and wish her the greatness and prosperity.” Metropolitan Hilarion is especially troubled and bewildered by the “planned naming of the renovated metro station on the Ring Line in honor of Voikov.” As His Eminence noted, this means that “the securing for posterity of the name of this evil terrorist and executioner continues.” Mayor Sobyanin had earlier declared in an interview with the radio station Govorit Moskva that the municipal authorities are prepared to rename the Voikov Metro Station. This idea was supported by the Russian Orthodox Church and other social organizations. 12 августа 2015 г. Смотри также Комментарии Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку

Archive Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates in the Russian Metochion in Belgrade 10 July 2018 year 11:09 On July 8, 2018, the commemoration day of Ss Peter and Fevronia of Murom, His Holiness Irenaeus, Patriarch of Serbia, presided over the Divine Liturgy at Belgrade representation of the Russian Orthodox Church’s church of the Holy Trinity. The Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church was assisted by Archpriest Vitalij Tarasjev, rector of the metochion, and Belgrade clergy. The service was attended by A. Konanykhin, Russian cultural attaché in Belgrade; N. Popovic, Serbia’s minister of innovations and technological development; Ms. M. Radojevic, director of the Serbia’s Office for Religious Affairs; and Ms. N. Kuschenkova, director of the Russian House in Belgrade. Among the worshippers were representatives of the Night Wolves motorcycle club who are on a pilgrimage to Serbian holy places. Addressing Patriarch Irenaeus, Archpriest Vitalij Tarasjev noted with gratitude that for several years now, the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church marks the Day of Ss Peter and Fevronia with the Divine Liturgy at the Moscow Patriarchate representation in Belgrade. For the prayerful memory, the rector of the methochion presented His Holiness with an icon-lamp, stressing that its light symbolizes His Holiness’s constant prayer and care for the flock. His Holiness greeted the worshippers on the occasion of the Day of Ss Peter and Fevronia as ‘intercessors for the sacredness of the Christian marriage’ and reminded the congregation that marriage was established by God immediately after the creation of the world. At the same time, he said, the Lord gave His blessing upon childbearing and for spouses there is no honour greater than ‘to be God’s co-workers in the creation of life’. ‘However’, he continued, ‘in our time, the family as a holy union is increasingly threatened and ruined under various impacts of the modern world’. Any deviation from God’s will, he said, and rejection of the family values and childbearing lie in the basis of demographic problems in various European countries, including Serbia. Speaking about Prince Peter and Princess Fevronia as holy patrons of the Christian family, Patriarch Irenaeus said, ‘The Russian Church has established this great feast. On this day, we should think about the enormous problem of our time, and may we be obedient to the voice of the Church and the Lord’s commandment ‘to be fruitful, and multiply’ and let us glorify God by bearing children’. The liturgy was followed by a grand reception. DECR Communication Service /Patriarchia.ru Календарь ← 7 December 2023 year

Russian specialists preserving Christian heritage of Lebanon The Kadisha Valley (also Wadi Qadisha), Lebanon, December 12, 2014 A group of archaeologists and restorers, including Russian scientists, has begun implementing a large-scale project of reconstructing an ancient Christian church complex that is a UNESCO World Heritage monument, reports the Tayyar.org news portal.      According to the media reports, the Maronite Church appealed to the Committee for Restoration of Ancient Lebanese Churches for further examination of the unique wall paintings of the Kadisha Valley churches. The first stage of the reconstruction was carried out through joint efforts of specialists from Russia, Poland, and Italy. Now the time has come for 16th-17th century frescoes. According to George Arab, the project’s executive director, the frescoes depicting Christ and the Holy Family as well as Icons of the Mother of God and St. Daniel Are of a special interest for the scientific world. Today the committee members have started surveying the state of the monuments and embarked on their description. Unfortunately, the frescoes were considerably damaged over the years by the high humidity of the valley. The icons themselves, according to rector of one of the Kadisha Valley churches, Father Habib, amaze pilgrims even now. The main wall painting that depicts the Ascension of the Holy Virgin is a rare iconographic type. Here the Mother of God, being received by the Holy Trinity into the heavens, rises above the cedars of Lebanon, under which the locally venerated Holy Patriarchs surround the sacrificial altar with the Lamb. It is supposed that the original icon was painted by Monk Peter of Cyprus in 1702 under Patriarch Estephan El Douaihy (1630-1704). Other wall paintings the Russian archaeologists are currently working on are no less striking; for example, the so-called “fresco of Petition” bears an image of the Heavenly Father standing in front of the Heavenly Altar with the Lamb. In the historians’ view, this and other compositions enable the scientists to throw light upon the late stages of development of the oriental iconography which are insufficiently known to this day. At the same time, according to the As-Safir newspaper’s reports, the next step of the field research will be the lower story of a Kadisha monastery built in the 12th century.      Prior to electricity and central heating, most families gathered in parlors, spending evenings with reading, sewing, and family conversations. The notion that everyone would retreat to bedrooms, kitchens, or dens, separating themselves from other family members, was unthinkable. The communal nature of the family was natural. I can remember, as a child (this really dates me), sitting together with my brother and my parents, listening to radio dramas. Before the coming of television, families would gather for evenings in the living room, where children would play with Lincoln Logs, or play board games with their parents. Evenings spent together as family is important, for these moments not only build a bond between parents and their children, but serve as important times in which to share family values. The old saying that “a family that prayers together, stays together” was a truism that is often forgotten. I remember, as a boy of six, a Catholic family living next to us who had a small family chapel, complete with altar, statues, and candles. Every evening they would all gather in that little chapel to pray the rosary. As a protestant boy, I remember wishing we had a chapel as well. Family meals are also important times for building strong moral and spiritual foundations in children. Sitting around the dinner table is a great time for parents to develop strong bonds of trust with their children. Dinner is a perfect time for talking to your children about their friends, or school activities, or recounting the homily from the Sunday Liturgy. Family members dispersing throughout the house for the evening, can end up functioning as autonomous entities, and family bonds are unlikely to develop in a healthy manner. The domestic church, which is such an important element of the Orthodox Christian tradition, can not be developed in a family where meals, prayers, and social life are all in separate parts of the house. Parents, in their capacity as shepherds and nurturers, have the God given responsibility to make sure the home is an incubator for a life of righteousness, and where the Orthodox faith can take root. It is in such households that these children, in turn, learn how to be good parents to their own future children. Hebrews 10:24-25: “… and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another …” With love in Christ, Abbot Tryphon Abbot Tryphon The Morning Offering 8 февраля 2016 г. Source: Getty Images/Fotobank      Even now, 95 years after the murder of Russia " s last czar, Nicholas II, we do not know precisely how many people took part in the deed. One account of the event claims there were eight, and yet another insists there were 11—one for each murdered member of the Russian royal family. It is clear, however, that the killing squad was led by two men named Yurovsky and Medvedev-Kudrin. Both later penned memoirs in which they described in great detail the night that Nicholas II was killed: both were proud of their role in Russian history; both held important jobs until their death, and remained respected members of Soviet society. Yakov Yurovsky, chief executioner of the Russian royal family. Source: Press photo Yakov Mikhaylovich Yurovsky (1878–1938) served as the superintendant of Ipatyev House in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg), where the royal family was held by the Soviet government. He also led the shooting squad. He claims that he personally fired the bullet that killed the czar. The participation of Yurovsky, who was Jewish, in the killing of the last Russian monarch later gave nationalists reason to complain that “our father the Czar was murdered by foreigners.” There were, in fact, only two “foreigners” in the killing squad: Yurovsky and Tselms; the latter was of Latvian extraction, and his participation in the killing is questioned by many. Yurovsky was a jeweller by profession, and, on the night of the killing, he was determined to find the czar’s diamonds. In this he succeeded; after the bodies of the czarinas were searched, about 17 pounds of jewellery was found sewn in their clothes. Yurovsky later handed it all over to the superintendant of the Kremlin. For the most part, the first Bolsheviks were not interested in money—but they undoubtedly were extremely ruthless.
