Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) celebrates rite of return to Church for apostates Moscow, April 11, 2017 Photo: Pravoslavie.ru      On Lazarus Saturday, April 8, Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, celebrated the rite of apostates returning to the holy Orthodox Church. On this day, sixty-three people renounced paganism, sectarian errors, and false schismatic beliefs, in Moscow’s Church of the “Joy of All Who Sorrow” Icon of the Mother of God, reports the press service of the Moscow Patriarchate. As Lazarus was resurrected from bodily death, so have they been resurrected from spiritual death. Met. Hilarion welcomed them all back into the saving enclosure of the Church, noting that, while many contemporary people doubt the existence of the devil and his machinations, those who fell away were “experiencing first-hand the work of the devil.” However, we should take courage because, “The holy Church was founded by the Lord Jesus Christ, and for two thousand years already the Church has faithfully preserved intact the teaching of Jesus Christ and His apostles, as the place of the living presence of the Lord, His Most Pure Mother, and all the saints.” In the Church, His Eminence explained, we are united to the entire Body of Christ and all believers both past and present, and in the holy Eucharist we partake of the Lord Himself, which transforms and enlightens us.      He encouraged all those who had returned to immerse themselves in Orthodox spiritual literature, to be faithful in attending Divine Liturgy and receiving Holy Communion, and to trust in the Church to teach them rightly and guide them on the path to Heaven. He further exhorted them to “be obedient to the Church, read the Gospels every day which tell about the life and acts of our Lord Jesus Christ, and learn to build your life in accordance with Christ’s evangelical commandments.” Work with people who have fallen away from Orthodoxy is carried out in the Moscow church of the Joy of All Who Sorrow Icon of the Mother of God by the Center for Rehabilitation of Victims of Non-Traditional Religions in memory of A. Venerable Hilarion the New the Abbot of Pelecete Commemorated on March 28 Photo: Days.Pravoslavie.Ru Saint Hilarion the New, Igumen of Peleke Monastery, from his youth, he devoted himself to the service of God and spent many years as a hermit. Because of his holy and blameless life he was ordained to the holy priesthood, and later he was made igumen of the Pelekete monastery (near the Dardanelles). Saint Hilarion was granted gifts of clairvoyance and wonderworking by the Lord. Through prayer he brought down rain during a drought, and like the Prophet Elisha he separated the waters of a river, he drove harmful beasts from the fields, he filled the nets of fishermen when they had no success in fishing, and he did many other miracles. In addition to these things, he was able to heal the sick and cast out demons. Saint Hilarion suffered on Great and Holy Thursday in the year 754, when the military commnander Lakhanodrakon suddenly descended upon the Pelekete monastery in pursuit of icon-venerators, boldly forcing his way into the church, disrupting the service and throwing the Holy Gifts upon the ground. Forty-two monks were arrested, slapped into chains, sent to the Edessa district and murdered. The remaining monks were horribly mutilated, they beat them, they burned their beards with fire, they smeared their faces with tar and cut off the noses of some of the confessors. Saint Hilarion died for the veneration of icons during this persecution. Saint Hilarion left behind spiritual works containing moral directives for spiritual effort. Saint Joseph of Volokolamsk (September 9 and October 18) was well acquainted with the work of Saint Hilarion, and he also wrote about the significance of monastic struggles in his own theological works. People will be filled with indignation for some while, but then “pioneers of the evil” will appear who will put this idea into practice. Photo: afonit.info      The question of the glorification of the Russian Athonite elder Tikhon (Golenkov), the spiritual father of St. Paisios the Athonite, was recently discussed at the Moscow Theological Academy at the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra. The discussion occurred as part of the academy’s “Day of the Memory of Two Elders: St. Paisios the Athonite and Archimandrite Kirill (Pavlov),” in which the new book Athonite Elder Tikhon (Golenkov) (in Russian) was presented. The hope was expressed that the Church would support the glorification of this great twentieth-century elder, reports a correspondent of the site Russian Athos . The new book dedicated to Elder Tikhon was published with the blessing of the abbot of Koutloumousiou Monastery Archimandrite Christodoulos, who was the confessor and co-struggler of the great St. Paisios the Athonite. The book has been recommended for distribution by the publishing house of the Russian Orthodox Church. Meanwhile, according to Russian Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov, Metropolitan Zenobius of Saransk and Mordovia and the head of the Russian Church’s committee for canonization Bishop Pankraty of Troitsk have introduced an initiative to glorify Elder Tikhon as a saint of the Russian Orthodox Church. “We are hoping for Church-wide support for the initiative,” the minister stated. Interest in the person of Fr. Tikhon has grown since the canonization of his most famous disciple St. Paisios the Athonite in 2015. As noted by Konovalov, “In 1,000 years of the presence of Russian monks on Mt. Athos, only one of the Russian ascetics has been glorified by the Church of Constantinople—St. Silouan the Athonite… In this regard, we found it reasonable to also publish a book about the teacher and co-struggler of St. Pasios, who was the Russian elder Tikhon.” Elder Tikhon was born in 1884 in the Russian Empire, in the village of Novaya Mikhaylovka (in present-day Volgograd). At the age of 24 he arrived to Mt. Athos where he spent the remaining sixty years of his life in unceasing prayer and repentance. Е.В. Бухович Проблема духовного и идеального в отношениях Бога и человека (по творениям святителя Феофана Затворника) Источник Аннотация. Данная статья посвящена рассмотрению про­блемы духовного и идеального в богословском наследии Фе­офана Затворника. Данная проблема рассматривается как ме­тодологическая в отношении богословского познания. Само богословское познание, богословие понимается в опытном ключе. И во всей своей полноте возможно исключительно как богообщение во Христе. В рамках данной проблемы свя­титель Феофан находится в контексте святоотеческой тради­ции. Очевидным образом прослеживается преемственность с аскетической письменностью древних подвижников христи­анского Востока. Феофан Затворник пишет по этому вопро­су в сотериологической перспективе. Идеальное и духовное, согласно святителю Феофану, соотносятся во Христе и опыте жизни в Нем. Конечной целью является обожение человека, достигаемое через причастие Богу. Таким образом, проблема духовного и идеального приобретает в богословии святителя Феофана Затворника важные для понимания спасения черты. Abstract . This article is devoted to the problem of the spiritual and the ideal in the theological heritage of Theophan the Recluse. This problem is considered as methodological in relation to theological cognition. Theological knowledge itself, theology, is understood in an experimental way. And in all its fullness it is possible only as Communion with God in Christ. Within the framework of this problem, St. Theophan is in the context of the patristic tradition. There is an obvious continuity with the ascetic writing of the ancient ascetics of the Christian East. Theophan the Recluse writes on this issue in a soteriological perspective. According to St. Theophan, the ideal and the spiritual are correlated in Christ and the experience of life in Him. The ultimate goal is the deification of man, achieved by communion with God. Thus, the problem of the spiritual and the ideal acquires important features for understanding salvation in the theology of St. Theophan the Recluse.

To conclude this article, I would like to say a few words about the main factor of parenting. Children always become similar to their parents in almost everything, especially their spiritual world. That is why your own spiritual health and well being, the true Christian spirit of both parents, their religious zeal and Christian love and solidarity, are key. The foundation of our souls is built up by various educational situations, but the most important part of it is mysteriously formed through being connected to our families. The sacraments of confession and Holy Communion have a great impact on the spiritual formation of our souls. O mores! Any sign of affection on the priest’s side is sometimes interpreted as something unnatural, homosexual. It leads to many complaints. Then the priest is prohibited from loving children. Well, the results will inevitably match the beginnings. When I was young I worked as a youth leader in a children’s pioneer camp. I was amazed to see the difference between the children who were not baptized and those who were baptized and had some basic church experience. Even though they had no proper church education, God’s grace was in their souls, as it had been put there in the beginning.
