As difficult as it is to see once-thriving churches sit vacant, with high onion domes stripped of their crosses, one cannot help but celebrate the restored and growing church community at the Russian Embassy of China in Beijing. After a long visit to the church museum, I returned to the dining room, where Father Sergiy affectionately blessed the faithful as they departed. I thanked him for allowing us to attend Liturgy and visit his museum and library. And bowing down I too received his blessing, after which he said,“You’re on the list, so remember you’re always welcome here.” I remembered his note to me—“Christ is in our midst!”—and I silently thanked the holy martyrs of 1900 for their witness and continued prayers. Truly it is upon their blood that the Russian church is again able to worship the God of the ages, and raise the Cross of Christ in a city growing more fevered in its march toward materialism. In the Troparion sung in honor of the Russian Orthodox martyrs of China, the choir of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Dormition of Most Holy Theotokos sings: Thy 222 martyrs who shone forth in the empire of China held the Christian faith as a shield and did not bow down to idols. They accepted torture and death from their irrational countrymen and the lips of the passion-bearing youth cried: we consider suffering for Christ as nothing. We desire to obtain eternal life for this transitory life. | That is inside Russia among banks that otherwise were vulnerable even domestically to a SWIFT cut. Russia joined the Brussels-based private SWIFT system as the Berlin Wall crumbled in 1989. Today her banks are the second largest users of SWIFT. The new system is inside Russia. Necessary, but not sufficient, to protect against SWIFT cutoff. The next step in discussion is joint Russia-China interbank clearing independent of SWIFT and Washington. That is also coming. The following day after Russia’s “SWIFT” alternative was announced as operational, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping said China will build up its strategic partnership with Russia in finance, space and aircraft building and “raise trade cooperation to a new level.” He added that China plans to cooperate more with Russia in the financial area and in January Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said that payments in national currencies, de-dollarization, were being negotiated with China. China realizes that if Russia collapses, China is next. Failing empires try desperate measures to survive. Russians also realize that their leaders are moving in unprecedented ways to build an alternative to what they see as a morally decadent and bankrupt American world. For most Russians the disastrous decade of poverty, chaos and deprivation of the Yeltsin era in the 1990’s was reminder enough what awaits should Russia’s leaders again prostitute themselves to American banks and corporations for takeover, Hillary Clinton’s infamous “reset” of US-Russian relations she attempted when Medvedev was President. Russians see what the US has done in neighboring Ukraine where even the Finance Minister, Natalia Jaresko, is an American, a former State Department person. Russia and its leaders are hardly trembling behind Kremlin walls. They are forging the skeleton of a new international economic order that has the potential to transform the world from the present bankruptcy of the Dollar System. Moscow and Beijing recently announced, as I discussed in a previous posting, their project to create a joint alternative to the US credit rating monopoly of Moody’s, S&P and Fitch. President Putin’s travel agenda in the past year has been mind-boggling. Far from being the international paraiah Washington and Victoria Nuland hoped for, Russia is emerging as the land which has the courage to “just say No!” to Washington. |

| По многочисленным просьбам верующих желающих помочь пострадавшему монастырю, Патриарх Павел благословил открыть специальных счет для сбора пожертвований: Предстоятель Сербской Церкви заранее благодарит всех, кто хочет и имеет возможность помочь восстановлению древней святыни. Монастырь Хиландар был построен в 1188 году стараниями святого Саввы Сербского и его отца, преподобного Симеона Мироточивого. В течение восьми веков своего существования Хиландар имел судьбоносное значение для Сербской Церкви, народа и государства. Из его стен вышла целая плеяда предстоятелей Сербской Церкви, учителей, проповедников, подвижников веры и благочестия. В монастырской ризнице хранятся бесценные культурно-исторические сокровища: известная мозаика Богородицы XII века, алтарные завесы, подаренные св. монахиней Евфимией, чудотворная икона Пресвятой Богородицы «Троеручица», диптих с 24 миниатюрами на пергаменте XIII века и многое другое. В монастыре находится большое собрание мощей святых, средневековых икон, коллекции богослужебных предметов. Хиландар за время своего существования пережил несколько небольших пожаров. Сильный пожар 1772 года практически полностью уничтожил монастырь. Согласно преданию, во время одного пожара разыгравшегося на Святой горе престольная икона Богородицы " Троеручица " , которую монахи вынесли из монастыря, спасла обитель от огненной стихии. | Православие в Конго В Браззавиле, столице бывшего французского Конго, Православие появилось в 1983 году, когда туда приехал бежавший от политических репрессий Флорибер Чизибу. Именно ему выпала честь просвещать республику и стать первым ее православным священником. Вскоре была построена первая часовня из фанеры. В 1996 году молитвами священника Максима Умба конголезская сборная по футболу одолела сборную ЮАР. Благодарный префект подарил отцу Максиму участок земли в центре города, однако из-за нехватки средств строительство церкви не было начато. В 2004 году в Конго приехал афонский монах-миссионер, архитектор по образованию Теолог (Хризантокопулос) . Он спроектировал храм св. Димитрия Солунского и лично ездил в Европу за пожертвованиями. Со временем появились приходы в Долизи, Нкаи, Браззавиле. В Пуэнт-Нуаре старую фанерную часовню перестроили в каменную церковь с колокольней. В 2007 году Конго впервые посетил Александрийский Патриарх Феодор II. Ныне в Конго учреждена новая епархия. Первым ее архиереем стал епископ Браззавильский и Габонский Пантелеимон. | He takes it for granted that clergy are absolutely forbidden to shed blood: and even if they do so accidentally, will be prohibited from celebrating the Eucharistic mysteries afterwards. In this case, just as with the church’s canonical rules relating to the prohibition of second marriages, what began as a general rule, was relaxed in its application to wider society, although the clergy were required to sustain the original strict interpretation (see Apostolical Canons 66. Pedalion. pp. 113–116.) Today in Orthodoxy, marriage is described as a onetime occurrence: but if the marriage is broken a second (and even third) marriage can be contracted “as an economy” to human conditions and relational failures. The clergy, however, are not allowed to contract second marriages (even if the first wife has died). The economy is not permitted to them. Clergy in the Eastern tradition are still canonically forbidden from engaging in any violence, beyond the minimum necessary to defend their life (Apostolic Canon 66) though they are censured if they do not vigorously defend a third party being attacked in their presence. For both things (use of excessive violence in self-defense, and refusal to use violence in defense of another, they are given the penalty of deposition from orders). 380 “A Christian should not volunteer to become a soldier, unless he is compelled to do this by someone in authority. He can have a sword, but he should not be commanded to shed blood. If it can be shown that he has shed blood he should stay away from the mysteries (sacraments) at least until he has been purified through tears and lamentation.” Canons of Hippolytus 14.74. По божьему промыслу, при падении Византии от рук османов, в ходе династических соглашений, вошла в гарем турецкого султана Мурада II, став приемной матерью его сына Мехмеда II. Не приняв мусульманство, жила в покоях дворца как православная христианка, но не смотря на это, обладала покровительством и почитанием. Ей удалось восстановить некоторые поруганные храмы и вернуть святыни. Дары волхвов - лично передала на хранение в Святую Гору Афон.
