Therefore let us open our eyes while there is still time. Let us firmly believe that the final victory will not belong to the devil and his angels, but to our King and Leader Christ. So let us hasten to take up the victory-bearing weapon blessed by our King for battle—Great Lent; a weapon that is for us bright and glorious, and for our adversary terrible and fatal. Let us abstain from gluttony and drunkenness, that they might not burden our hearts (cf. Lk. 21:34) and not bury them in corruption and darkness. Let us abstain from gathering up earthly treasures, that through them satan cannot separate us from Christ and force us to surrender. And when we fast, let us fast not for the sake of human praise, but for the sake of our soul’s salvation and to the glory of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Whom with the Father and the Holy Spirit the angels and saints in heaven and the righteous on earth sing hymns of praise—to the Trinity One in Essence and Indivisible, now and ever, and to all ages, and unto the ages of ages. The Lord of creation, the one who walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden, the one who raised Lazarus from the dead, the one died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again three days later calls to us. On Palm Sunday Archpriest Andrew Phillips On Palm Sunday Archpriest Andrew Phillips This is not just an historic event, but an event that can be repeated at every communion. It is an image of every person who is led by irrational desires, deprived of spiritual freedom, attached to the passions and habits of fleshly life. Christ’s teaching looses the ass from its attachment; that is, from fulfilling its sinful and fleshly will. Sermon for Palm Sunday Sermon for Palm Sunday With the expectation of the Messiah, and the events of Christ’s ministry on earth, word travelled quickly around Judea that Jesus was the one whom the prophets had spoken about and whom everyone was expecting. Yesterday Christ performed a miracle by raising Lazarus from the dead, the miracle that foreshadowed his glorious resurrection next Sunday. Now everyone is convinced that this is the Messiah-king who will save the Israelites. Комментарии Подпишитесь на рассылку Православие.Ru Рассылка выходит два раза в неделю:

O, great is the power of God and ineffable are His wonders, so that one who loves God and abides by His will cannot be destroyed even by the grave and the earth cannot imprison him. Moreover, even during his lifetime the sea itself was obedient to him, and after his death, death did not affect his God-bearing body. But, moreover, like an aromatic lily it grew on the fragrances of his virtues which blossomed from his youth, and, as the prophet said: ‘his body did not undergo decomposition’ (Acts 2:31). I see much the same as happened to Israel of old with what is happening in my own Greek nation. We turned our backs on God and ended up enslaved to the fourth reich EU. Now the nation is in freefall demographically from abortions, economically from consumerism debt, corruption (people forgot Christ " s own commandment - render to Caesar the things that are of Caesar " s and to God the things that are of God ie pay your taxes) and spiritually from a loss of true Orthodox faith. (And thrown in the mix is the heresy of ecumenism for which parts or rather members of the clergy are notorious for) and you see the catastrophe engulfing the nation. © 1999-2016 Православие.Ru При перепечатке ссылка на Православие.Ru обязательна Контактная информация

In consideration of Bishop Isihije’s work aimed at promoting relations between the Valjevo Diocese and the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, Metropolitan Alexander awarded him with the Order of the Holy Hieroconfessor Nicholas the Metropolitan of Alma-Ata and Kazakhstan and presented him a cross and a panagia. Other members of the Serbian delegation received medals commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Turkestan Diocese. As a gift for the Valjevo Diocese, Metropolitan Alexander handed over to Bishop Isihije icons containing particles of the holy relics of the heavenly patrons of Kazakhstan – Hieroconfessor Nicholas the Metropolitan of Alma-Ata and the Venerable Confessor Schema-Archimandrite Sebastian, Elder of Karaganda. With the blessing of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, Bishop Isihije presented to the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District an icon and a particle of the holy relics of St Nicholas (Velimirovi) the Bishop of Ohrid and ia – one of the most venerated Serbian saints, known all over the world. Metropolitan Alexander expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the gift and noted that St Nicholas of Serbia is deeply revered by Orthodox Christians in Kazakhstan. St. Nicholas’s spiritual exhortations, well-known among the faithful, strike a chord with many people, both active church-goers and those who seek their path to God. During the meeting, Bishop Isihije shared his impressions of his visit to Astana and Almaty. DECR Communication Service /Patriarchia.ru Календарь ← 19 апреля 2024 г. (6 апреля ст.ст.) пятница Свт. With the outbreak of the First World War, Archimandrite Nikolai was sent on a diplomatic mission to England, where he successfully pleaded the cause of the embattled Serbs. In addition, the distinction of his Oxford doctorate helped gain him an invitation to speak at Westminster Abbey. As one Anglican prelate later recalled: " The Archimandrite Nicholai Velimirovich came, and in three months left an impression that continues to this day. His works, " The Lord " s Commandments " and his " Meditations on the Lord " s Prayer " electrified the Church of England. His vision of the Church as God " s family, as over against God " s empire, simply shattered the West " s notion of what it had regarded as the Caesaro-Papism of Eastern Orthodoxy. " (Canon Edward West, " Recollections of Bishop Nikolai, Kalendar, Serbian Orthodox Church of USA and Canada, 1979; quoted in Kesich.) Archimandrite Nikolai then took his mission to America, where he enlisted the aid not only of emigrant Serbs, but also of thousands of Croats and Slovenes in their common war with Austria. His spiritual and intellectual strengths made him a very persuasive ambassador for his country, even as he was also - and always - an ambassador for Christ and His Church. Returning home to Serbia in 1919, Archimandrite Nikolai was consecrated Bishop of Zica. The ravages of war had inflicted great physical and emotional damage, and the new bishop applied himself energetically to the work of restoration. He taught religion, helped the poor, established orphanages, and took the helm of the popular spiritual revivalist movement, Bogomljcki Pokret, steering it away from its inclination towards sectarianism. This movement encouraged prayer, the reading of the Bible, and frequent confession and communion. Under Bishop Nikolai " s spiritual guidance, its influence spread, and it contributed to a revival of monasticism. Monasteries and convents were restored and reopened, and the flowering of monastic life in turn reinvigorated the spiritual life of the Serbian people as a whole, who responded with esteem and devotion to the leadership of this extraordinarily gifted archpastor.

“I myself find great inspiration in the great Serbian saints, beginning with Saint Sava and continuing through to the newly glorified Saint Sebastian and Saint Mardarije, who were active in the American Mission,” Metropolitan Tikhon continued. “I have especially high veneration for Saint Nicholai [Velimirovic], who spent his last years at Saint Tikhon’s Monastery and remains a source of inspiration for the monastics and seminarians and many others throughout the Orthodox Church in America. “I am certain that our Lord, Jesus Christ will strengthen you with His grace for the heavy cross of archpastoral leadership that now lies on your shoulders,” he concluded. “I am also certain that the strong spirit of the Serbian Church will likewise sustain you, so that you may faithfully offer your service to God in the tradition of Saint Sava and Saint Nicholai. May you continue to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ on this North American continent.” Photo: http://oca.org/      Metropolitan Tikhon presented a hand-carved wooden panagia to Bishop Irinej, who in turn gave a beautiful book, The Christian Heritage of Kosovo and Metohija , which documents the tragic history of the region in which over 100 historic churches have been destroyed in recent years, to Metropolitan Tikhon. Mr. Liberovsky offered a presentation on original holdings in the OCA Archives concerning the recently canonized Serbian missionary saints of North America, Mardarije and Sebastian both of whom served in the North American Mission before the establishment of the Serbian Diocese. According to Father Jillions, Metropolitan Tikhon and Bishop Irinej discussed a variety of matters, including the recent Council in Crete, at which Bishop Irinej was present; the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the USA; pastoral challenges facing the Church in countries outside traditional Orthodox lands; and theological education in America. Metropolitan Tikhon also spoke fondly of his 2006 visit to Serbia’s Soko Monastery, where he had been the guest of His Grace, Bishop Lavrentije.
