Each of these contemporary Orthodox trajectories share in common an understanding of the doctrine of the Trinity as the Christian expression of God’s being as free to be in communion with what is not God. The disagreement lies in the implications of this consensus of divine- human communion for trinitarian theology. In the future, Orthodox trinitarian theology faces at least two issues. First, the perennial question of patristic hermeneutics: is the question of God as Trinity a settled one; or (if one agrees that the settling of the question of God is an impossibility for faith), what might constitute authentic amplification of the classic patristic theology? Second, Orthodox thought is in serious need of a theology that integrates two not so manifestly compatible strands of thought: apophaticism, together with its essence-energies distinction, and the classically formulated doctrine of the Trinity. Fr. Paul affirms that they are all parishioners of this church—the only one there that serves the Eucharist, the sacrament of Thanksgiving to God, for Whom all are living. Added to the number of reposed parishioners for whom we pray in Antarctica was one more name—a cameraman of Russia’s Channel One, Anatoly Klyan, who filmed the laying of the foundation of the church on King George Island. Anatoly was killed last spring in Donetsk. I remember him standing with his camera on his shoulder, pointed at the porthole of an aircraft carrier C-130. With these shots from the clouds of the wing and propeller of the military aircraft flying to Antarctica began within a few days the report of our expedition on the “Vremya” (“Time”) TV program. Two years later, the church assembled in the Altai and disassembled for its travel to King George Island, then reassembled from numbered logs, was consecrated by Bishop Theognost (Superior of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra) in the name of the Holy Trinity, although at first is was planned that it would be dedicated to St. Nicholas, the protector of sailors, and therefore also of polar explorers. But here is something symbolic: the only icon on the table that served as temporary altar was a small plastic icon that I had purchased the day before in Catholic store in Punta Arenas—the southernmost city of Chili and Latin America. It was a table icon of the Holy Trinity by St. Andrei Rublev. Symbolic. And the church in Antarctica, a church amidst an icy universe with the Southern Cross above it, is perhaps the best illustration for the last line of the Creed: “I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come.” Priest Constantine Kravtsov spoke with Hieromonk Pavel (Gelyastanov) Translation by OrthoChristian.com 18 декабря 2014 г. Apostle Herodion of the Seventy, and those with Him Commemorated on April 8 Saints Herodion (Rodion), Agabus, Asyncritus, Rufus, Phlegon and Hermes are among the Seventy Apostles, chosen by Christ and sent out by Him to preach (Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles: January 4). The holy Apostle Herodion was a relative of Saint Paul, and his companion on many journeys. When Christianity had spread to the Balkan Peninsula, the Apostles Peter and Paul established Saint Herodion as Bishop of Patara. Saint Herodion zealously preached the Word of God and converted many of the Greek pagans and Jews to Christianity. Enraged by the preaching of the disciple, the idol-worshippers and Jews with one accord fell upon Saint Herodion, and they began to beat him with sticks and pelt him with stones. One of the mob struck him with a knife, and the saint fell down. But when the murderers were gone, the Lord restored him to health unharmed. After this, Saint Herodion continued to accompany the Apostle Paul for years afterward. When the holy Apostle Peter was crucified (+ c. 67), Saint Herodion and Saint Olympos were beheaded by the sword at the same time. The holy Apostle Agabus was endowed with the gift of prophecy. He predicted (Acts 11:27-28) the famine during the reign of the emperor Claudius (41-52), and foretold the suffering of the Apostle Paul at Jerusalem (Acts 21:11). Saint Agabus preached in many lands, and converted many pagans to Christ. Saint Rufus, whom the holy Apostle Paul mentions in the Epistle to the Romans (Rom. 16:11-15), was bishop of the Greek city of Thebes. Saint Asyncritus (Rom. 16:14) was bishop in Hyrcania (Asia Minor). Saint Phlegon was bishop in the city of Marathon (Thrace). Saint Hermes was bishop in Dalmatia (there is another Apostle of the Seventy by the name of Hermas, who was bishop in the Thracian city of Philippopolis). All these disciples for their intrepid service to Christ underwent fierce sufferings and were found worthy of a martyr’s crown. Troparion — Tone 1 Let us praise in hymns the six-fold choir of Apostles:/Herodion and Agabus,/Rufus, Asyncritus, Phlegon and holy Hermes./They ever entreat the Trinity for our souls! Troparion — Tone 3 Holy Apostles/entreat the merciful God/to grant our souls forgiveness of transgressions. Kontakion — Tone 4 With the light of the Holy Spirit,/you illumine the way of the faithful like stars, O Holy Apostles./As you gaze on God the Word you repel the darkness of error. Kontakion — Tone 2 You became the disciples of Christ/And all-holy Apostles,/O glorious Herodion, Agabus and Rufus,/Asyncritus, Phlegon and Hermes./Ever entreat the Lord/To grant forgiveness of transgressions/To us who sing your praises. скрыть способы оплаты Подпишитесь на рассылку Православие.Ru Рассылка выходит два раза в неделю: Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку
