Archive Divine services to be celebrated on regular basis at the historical church in the territory of the Russian Consulate General in Istanbul 12 November 2018 year 10:49 On 11 November 2018, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Church of Ss. Constantine and Helen the Equal-to-the-Apostles, located in the territory of the summer residence of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul, by Rev. Georgy Sergeyev, appointed acting rector of the church by the decree of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill.  Among those present at the service were Mr. Andrei Podyelyshev, Russia’s Counsel General in Istanbul, as well as staff members of the Consulate General and compatriots living in Istanbul and its outskirts. During the Litany of Fervent Supplication, prayers were said for the preservation of the unity of Orthodoxy and for peace in Ukraine. To mark the centenary of the end of World War I, prayers were offered, commemorating the commanders and soldiers who had laid down their lives on the battlefields. After the Liturgy Fr. Georgy greeted the worshippers and conveyed to them blessings from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. As the priest noted, in view of the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church of 15 October 2018, concerning the impossibility of Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople which had brutally violated the canons, the Russian-speaking Orthodox Christians living in Turkey are sending numerous appeals to the Moscow Patriarchate, asking to provide them with pastoral care. The appointment of the rector and the beginning of regular divine services at the historical church located in the territory of the Russian Consulate General in Istanbul is a sign of the Russian Orthodox Church’s concern for its children living in the Turkish land. After the Liturgy the priest met with representatives of the Russian-speaking Diaspora in Turkey. The Church of Ss. Constantine and Helen the Equal-to-the-Apostles was built in 1832 in the territory of the summer residence of the Embassy of the Russian Empire. After the Revolution it was closed, and the building was used as a boiler-house. The restoration of the summer residence, including the church, was completed in 2009. On 6 July 2009, His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia performed the rite of lesser consecration of the church. Patriarch Kirill: the Lord visited Fr. Kirill with illness, which he bore with humility and meekness Moscow, February 22, 2017 Photo: Pravmir.ru “In the last years of his life the Lord visited Fr. Kirill with an illness, which he bore with humility and meekness, showing an example of fortitude of spirit, patience, and wholehearted hope in God,” in the words of Patriarch Kirill. His Holiness expressed his condolences to the deputy abbot of the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, Archbishop Feognost of Sergiev Posad, the monastery brotherhood, and all the family and friends of the newly-departed Archimandrite Kirill (Pavlov), who served many years as the confessor of the monastery. The letter has been published on the site of the Moscow Patriarchate. Fr. Kirill died on Monday evening, February 20, at ninety-eight years of age. His funeral will be celebrated tomorrow, February 23, in the Dormition Cathedral at the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra by Patriarch Kirill. The primate offered his sincere condolences in the letter for the repose of the “well-known and revered elder in the Orthodox world.” He recounted Fr. Kirill’s life, growing up in the Ryazan region, and coming to faith after finding a Gospel book after the brutal WW2 Battle of Stalingrad, which opened his eyes to the reality of God. Fr. Kirill studied at the Moscow Theological Seminary and then the Theological Academy, and became a monk in 1954 at the lavra, where the remainder of his life was centered. “Goodwill, and the ability to empathize and rejoice with others attracted many to Archimandrite Kirill, and he, justifying their trust, attended to their sorrows, aspirations, and hopes with unwavering attention,” the letter reads. Patriarch Kirill recounts how he gained the respect of his contemporaries through his years of service to God and the Church, diligently celebrating the Divine services, and lovingly and modestly always attending to his spiritual children. “In the last years of his life the Lord visited Fr. Kirill with an illness, which he bore with humility and meekness, showing an example of fortitude of spirit, patience, and wholehearted hope in God. I pray to the Lord of life and death our Lord Jesus Christ for the repose in the mansions of Heaven of His faithful servant, the newly-departed Archimandrite Kirill,” writes His Holiness. “His soul shall dwell with the blessed, and his memory shall be from generation to generation,” he penned in conclusion. 22 февраля 2017 г. Archive Metropolitan Hilarion on details of the talk between His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and Pope Francis of Rome 10 May 2022 year 13:02 On March 16, 2022, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia had an online talk with Pope Francis of Rome, which was focused on the situation in Ukraine. Speaking on the air of the TV program “The Church and the World”, the Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, at a request of the program anchor Ms. E. Gracheva, commented on the Pope Francis of Rome’s statement in an interview to the Corriere della Sera newspaper. In particular, the head of the Roman Catholic Church said that during the March online negotiations, Patriarch Kirill “for the first 20 minutes read to me, with a card in hand, all the justifications” of Russia’s actions in Ukraine.  “After the Pope presented the discourse in this light, we have decided to publish its details”, the DECR chairman said, “The Patriarch told the Pope approximately the following: “You receive from the western mass media the specific information about what is happening in Ukraine. I will tell you something that you may not know”. According to Metropolitan Hilarion, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church related to Pope Francis of Rome the prehistory of the conflict in Ukraine and the events in Donbass in 2014. “The Patriarch dwelt especially on the events in Odessa, which led to the widespread dissatisfaction of the Russian-speaking population and provoked, in their turn, the events in Donbass”, His Eminence continued, “Then the Patriarch spoke about the NATO expansion to the east; that NATO has come closer to Sankt-Petersburg at the distance of a few minutes of flight, and if Ukraine had joined NATO, then it would have come as close also to Moscow as at the distance of a few minutes of flight Finally, His Holiness the Patriarch said the most important thing: that his flock lives on the both sides of the conflict, and his heart is aching for what is happening”. Metropolitan Hilarion noted that after the video meeting, the press service of the Holy See quite correctly presented the information about the talk between the Primates of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church. “As a witness and participant in that conversation, I do remember that that the atmosphere was very friendly, that there was no kind of disagreement between the Pope and the Patriarch and no kind of discontent on this or that side. It was a brotherly talk. It is possible though that the sides kept their views”, the hierarch concluded. DECR Communication Service /Patriarchia.ru Календарь ← 7 December 2023 year
