The Russian Orthodox Diaspora: Copenhagen 1987-1988/Православие.Ru Tweet Нравится The Russian Orthodox Diaspora: Copenhagen 1987-1988 Archpriest Nicholas Artemov The Church of St. Alexander Nevsky in Copenhagen was established back in Tsarist times. In fact, Danish Royalty and the Russian Royal House have been closely connected—Tsar Nicholas II " s mother, Tsarina Maria Feodorovna, was a Danish princess. Archpriest Nicholas Artemov, who served there from 1987-88, published on the website ROCOR Studies his memoirs of that historical parish. St. Alexander Nevsky church on Bredgade 53. Its interior and exterior demonstrate the same imperial splendor as St. Alexander Nevsky church in Jerusalem (1896) or Holy Trinity Cathedral’s in Buenos Aires (1901). Photo by Bishop Agapit      Archpriest Sergei Plekhov, the rector of the Parish of St Alexander Nevsky in Copenhagen wanted to publish a book about the community, but found that he lacked certain information. When he asked me what I knew about the church life in Copenhagen, I realised that I could not remember all the details of my Copenhagen ministry. I did however remember about my pocket diaries from those years and ventured into the basement where I believed they might be stored. When I found them, I was amazed by the level of detail entered in day by day. I had forgotten that I once used to be organised like this (the electronic diary I am using at the moment doesn’t inspire one to make such detailed entries). The images of past events were coming back to mind once again. In 2012, during my summer holidays, I wrote up a historically-accurate account of those days, based on the notes in the diaries. The extent of this account exceeded even my own expectations. Although, it was far too lengthy to be used in the Copenhagen Parish book, it seemed a shame just to discard it and so the text was preserved. Deacon Andrei Psarev, my colleague since 1989, read this account and asked to have it published. For a long time, I couldn’t get round to editing the text, but now, here goes …

Metropolitan Tikhon was elected OCA Primate at the 17th All-American Council held in Parma, OH on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. Born Marc R. Mollard in Boston, MA on July 15, 1966, Metropolitan Tikhon was the eldest of three children born to Francois and Elizabeth Mollard. After brief periods living in Connecticut, France, and Missouri, he and his family settled in Reading, PA, where he graduated from Wyomissing High School in 1984. In 1988 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Sociology from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA, after which he moved to Chicago. In 1989 he was received into the Orthodox Church from Episcopalianism and, in the fall of the same year, he began studies at Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, South Canaan, PA. He was awarded the Master of Divinity degree from Saint Tikhon’s Seminary in 1993, after which he was appointed Instructor in Old Testament and subsequently Senior Lecturer in Old Testament, teaching Master level courses in the Prophets and the Psalms and Wisdom Literature. He also served as an Instructor in the seminary’s Extension Studies program, offering courses in the lives of the Old Testament saints, the liturgical use of the Old Testament, and the Old Testament in patristic literature. He collaborated with Igumen Alexander [Golitzin]—now Bishop of Toledo and the Bulgarian Diocese of the Orthodox Church in America—in the publication of “The Living Witness of the Holy Mountain” by Saint Tikhon’s Seminary Press. In 1995, he was tonsured to the Lesser Schema with the name Tikhon, in honor of Saint Patriarch Tikhon, Enlightener of North America. Later that year, he was ordained to the Holy Diaconate and Holy Priesthood at Saint Tikhon’s Monastery. In 1998 he was elevated to the rank of Igumen, and in 2000, to the rank of Archimandrite. Tweet Нравится Life of St. Innocent of Irkutsk, head of Chinese mission, to be published in Chinese Moscow, February 6, 2017 Photo: http://pravoslavie.fm/      On February 14, 1721, Hieromonk Innocent (Kulchitsky) was consecrated as Bishop of Pereslavl in preparation for his assignment as head of the Russian Church’s mission to Beijing and representative of the Russian government. He journeyed to Selingin on the Chinese border but was refused entry into China due to his ecclesiastical status. He spent three years in limbo and deprivation in Selingin until he was named as first bishop of the new Diocese of Irkutsk and Nerchinsk in 1727. Now the St. Innocent of Irkutsk Brotherhood and the Hong Kong parish of Sts. Peter and Paul hope to acquaint Chinese Orthodox Christians with the life and labors of this holy hierarch, reports. Pravoslavie.fm . “The Life of St. Innocent for China” aims to expand the base of Orthodox literature in the Chinese language and to facilitate the revival of the Chinese Autonomous Orthodox Church to which the Russian Orthodox Church is currently dedicating much effort. The brotherhood and parish believe the life of this missionary who was originally sent to preach in China, but then moved to the largest Siberian diocese could strike a chord in the hearts of Chinese Orthodox Christians. A fundraising site has been established to finance the translation and distribution of St. Innocent’s life. The Hong Kong parish earlier published a prayer book and a Book of Hours in Chinese, which proved to be very popular. 6 февраля 2017 г. Archive New Russian Orthodox church consecrated in Spanish Torrevieja 27 March 2018 year 14:28 March 25, 2018 – Bishop Nestor of Korsun, administrator of the Korsun diocese, celebrated the Grand Consecration of a new parish Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in Torrevieja, Alicante Province, Spain. During the consecration, the relics of the Holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian were placed at the holy altar. After a procession with the cross, Bishop Nestor, after anointing the holy relics with myrrh, placed them together with the consecration deed into a reliquary and seal it with reliquary wax. This placement of a part of holy relics at the basis of the altar means that the Universal Church in the period of persecution was established on the bones of martyrs. In the newly consecrated church, the archpastor celebrated the Divine Liturgy. He was assisted by Archpriest Yaroslav Dybach, rector of the Parish of St. George in Valencia, Archpriest Sergiy Prosandeyed, Hiero-schema-monk Nicholas (Serbian Church), Deacon Roman Onika, and other guests of the parish in holy orders. There were some 400 worshipers including parishioners, pilgrims and guests of the community from various parishes in Spain. After the liturgy, Bishop Nestor delivered an archpastoral homily, congratulated the community with the opening of a new church and presented laudatory diplomas to churchwardens and parishioners who proved to be the most active participants in the purchasing and adorning of the new church building. The building to be later arranged according to the canons of the interior decoration of the Orthodox church, was bought in autumn 2017. At the same time, the community bought an adjacent plot of land next to the picturesque Park of Europe 400 meters from the Mediterranean coastline. According to a report from the diocese of Korsun, the purchase of a new church facility became possible thanks to the active actions of the clergy and parishioners who managed in a short time to raise the sum necessary to continue financing the project. Archive ROCOR Synod of Bishops holds regular session 19 February 2020 year 11:41 On February 18, 2020, a regular session of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia took place under the chairmanship of the ROCOR First Hierarch, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York. Taking part in the meeting were Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany, Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America, Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada, Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, and Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan. Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Mid-America was unable to participate due to diocesan matters. The Synod members heard a brief report from Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany on the activities of the ROCOR Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, and considered an appeal from the Union of Descendants of the Russians of Gallipoli, seeking special prayers for the White Army soldiers on the centenary of their exodus from Russia. The Synod of Bishops blessed the prayerful commemoration on Saturday, November 21, this year. In view of the need to appoint a new ROCOR’s representative to the Church and Public Council for Commemoration of Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church under the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, the Synod designated Archpriest Nikolai Artemoff, secretary of the German diocese, as new representative. Having discussed the issues raised in a report of Archpriest Andre Papkov, president of the Synodal Liturgical Music Committee, the Synod decided to rename the school of church singing headed by him into the Metropolitan Laurus Synodal School of Church Singing. Noting the success of the recent conference held at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God in London, England, the Synod blessed the establishment of a special committee under the auspices of the Liturgical Music Committee with the view of coordinating events in Western Europe. The committee will work under the guidance of Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe. Acting on a request from Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Mid-America, the Synod of Bishops granted to the St John the Theologian Skete, formerly a metochion of the Holy Cross Monastery in West Virginia, the status of an independent monastery. The Synod of Bishops also deliberated on a number of disciplinary matters within the Church, and considered appeals from the ruling bishops for ecclesiastical awards to their clergymen and laity. The meeting concluded with the singing of “It is Truly Meet,” website of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia reports.
