| Archive Пн DECR chairman begins his working trip to the Holy Land 3 November 2022 year 20:12 On November 2, 2022, with a blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Mosco and All Russia, the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, arrived in Israel on a working visit. On November 3, the DECR chairman was received in audience at the Patriarchate of Jerusalem by His Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and all Palestine. During a prolonged conversation, which was held in a warm and confidential atmosphere, they dealt with topics on the common Orthodox agenda and other issues of mutual concern. In particular, they discussed the situation of Christians in the Middle East as well as prospects for the development of cooperation between the two Churches. Attending the meeting were Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina; Archimandrite Alexander (Yelisov), head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem; Archpriest Nikolay Balashov, an adviser to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, acting vice-chairman of the DECR; the Rev. Alexander Ershov, assistant to the DECR chairman; E.I. Skopenko, executive director of the Foundation for Support of Christian Culture and Heritage; Hegumen Nikon (Golovko), Hieromonk Dometian (Markarian) and Hieromonk Afanasy (Bukin), members of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem. | Archive Пн DECR Chairman meets with His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem 21 February 2022 year 11:42 On February 20, 2022, His Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine, received Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR). The audience took place at the premises of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. The DECR chairman conveyed cordial greetings and congratulatory message from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem with the coming celebration of his 70th birthday and presented him with a set of pectoral icons. Metropolitan Hilarion thanked His Beatitude for an opportunity to celebrate at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. During the talk, which was held in a warm atmosphere of confidence, various issues of mutual interest were broached. For instance, the situation of Christians in the Hoy Land and in the entire Middle East was discussed. His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos conveyed his good wishes and an icon of the Nativity of Christ as a gift to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. The talk continued during dinner. | Archive Пн DECR vice-chairman attends the opening of an exhibition of photographs and documents devoted to the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and the CPR 30 September 2019 year 18:07 On September 30, 2019, an exhibition of photographs and documents on the history of Soviet- and Russian-Chinese cooperation was opened at the Receptions House of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow. Opening the exhibition, Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Russian Federation minister of foreign affairs, noted, ‘Certainly, relations between the two nations are not limited to the seven decades alone. Their roots lie deep in centuries, going through which we have learnt to understand each other, to act together, to be good friends and good neighbours.’ The exposition was prepared by the foreign ministry with the use of materials from the Archives of the Russian Federation Foreign Policy and sources from a number of Chinese archives, Mr. Lavrov said and expressed confidence that the new exhibition ‘will serve to preserve the memory of historical landmarks of our common past and will become a noticeable event in the course of numerous festivities devoted to this date’. In his speech, Mr. Zhang Hanhui, Chinese ambassador to Russia, pointed to the importance of exchanges in the humanitarian area, which ‘pave the way to people’s souls’, thus promoting better understanding among nations. | Archive Пн Hierarchs of Serbian Orthodox Church visit DECR 17 October 2022 year 20:11 On October 17, 2022, hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church - Metropolitan Joannikije of Montenegro and the Littoral and Bishop Jovan of Slavonia visited the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate and met with the DECR chairman, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk. Present at the meeting were Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, acting vice-chairman of the DECR, Archpriest Ostoja Knezevic, secretary of the Metropolis of Montenegro and the Littoral, Sub-deacon N. Joksimovic and Ms S. A. Luganskaya, interpreter. During the conversation, which was held in a warm atmosphere of fraternal mutual understanding, the sides discussed the state of and prospects for the development of relations between the Russian and the Serbian Orthodox Churches. In conclusion of the talk, the DECR chairman and his guest exchanged tokens of the meeting. On October 18, the commemoration day of the Synaxis of Metropolitans of Moscow, Metropolitan Joannikije and Bishop Jovan will concelebrate with His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia at the Cathedral of the Assumption in the Moscow Kremlin. On the same day, the hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church will attend the opening of the festival ‘Serbian consolation of the Russian Heart’ at the St. Tikhon Orthodox University of Humanities. | Archive Пн His Holiness Patriarch Kirill expressed brotherly support to Primate of the Church of Jerusalem in view of radicals’ attack on the Church of the Dormition in Gethsemane 23 March 2023 year 22:20 On March 23, 2023, His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, sent a message to His Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine, expressing his compassion and brotherly support in view of another attack made by radicals on Christian buildings in the Holy Land. ‘Your Beatitude, beloved Brother and Concelebrant at God’s altar! With sorrow and concern I have learnt about an attack made by Jewish radicals on the Church of the Dormition on the Sunday of the Adoration of the Cross during the Liturgy celebrated at the Tomb of the Mother of God and about an attack on the priest and an attempt to maim His Eminence Joachim, Metropolitan of Helenopolis. Crying shame on this crime, I express compassion and brotherly support to Your Beatitude’, the massage reads. His Holiness wished His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos peace for the Holy City, strength from the Lord and well-being to his God-saved flock. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill assured Patriarch Theophilos that the Russian Orthodox Church, on her part, would continue ‘doing all that depends on us to help all Christians in the Holy Land, first of all, the faithful of the Church of Jerusalem’. In his letter to Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill also shared his profound concern for the situation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which ‘has entered the gravest period of persecutions’. | Archive Пн International conference on The Gospel of St. Mark: Historical and Theological Context completed its work at the Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies 2 October 2019 year 12:35 From September 23-26, 2019, the 2 nd International Conference of New Testament researchers devoted to the Gospel of St. Mark was held at the Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies (CMI). For four days, leading biblical scholars from Russia, Europe and America discussed the findings of over fifteen studies on the historical and theological context of the Gospel of St. Mark. On September 25, the participants in the conference visited the Novospassky Monastery for a familiarization tour as part of the cultural program. On September 26, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations (DECR) and the CMI rector, read a paper at the conference. In his introductory remarks, he spoke about the importance of the Gospel of St. Mark for the Orthodox tradition. The conference completed its work on September 27, the Day of the Elevation of the Holy Cross. The guests attended the Divine Liturgy celebrated by Metropolitan Hilarion at the church of Our Lady the Joy to All the Afflicted-in-Bolshaya Ordynka. After the service, they were invited for a festive repast during which they summed up the conference. The conference was conducted by the CMI in cooperation with the Eastern European Liaison Committee (EELC)’s Society of New Testament Scholars (SNTS) and with the support of the Kirche in Not and Business & Education as Mission foundations. | Archive Пн Metropolitan Hilarion chairs a meeting of the Inter-Council Presence commission on theology and theological education 3 October 2018 year 17:48 On October 3, 2018, the Inter-Council Presence commission on theology and theological education met at the Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute for Post-Graduate Studies (CMI). The meeting was chaired by the chairman of the commission, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk in his capacity of chairman of the Synodal Biblical-Theological Commission and CMI rector. Opening the meeting, His Eminence Hilarion announced the agenda. Then the meeting heard reports on the progress of work on various documents. The Rev. Roman Tarabrin presented a draft document on Ethical Problems Involved in In-Vitro Fertilization. The meeting agreed to send this draft to the Inter-Council Presence secretariat for further work. Hieromonk Stephan (Igumnov) spoke about the progress made in developing a document on Veneration of Holy Relics in the Orthodox Church. The meeting approved the membership of groups to work on the documents ‘Orthodox Understanding of the Causes of Extremism and Terrorism’ and ‘The Attitude to the Modern Practice of Exorcism (by beads bidding’. The meeting was chaired the chairman of the commission, head of the Department for External Church Relations (DECR), chairman of the synodal biblical and theological commission and the CMI rector, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk. Opening the meeting, His Eminence announced the agenda. After that, reports were made on the progress of the work on various documents. The draft document on The Church’s Attitude to Genetic Diagnostics and Genetic Therapy was presented by Archpriest Oleg Mumrikov. The draft document on ‘The Teaching of the Church on the Miracle” was presented by A. Shishkov. As a result of the discussion, it was agreed to send these draft documents to the secretariat of the Inter-Council Presence for further work. In conclusion of the meeting, Archbishop Ambrose of Petergof, rector of St. Petersburg Theological Academy, made a report on the results of the academic-theological conference ‘On a Theological Reflection of the Phenomenon of Extremism and Terrorism’ held on May 12, 2018, at St. Petersburg Theological Academy. | Archive Пн Paschal divine services for Russian communities celebrated in Ankara, Istanbul and Belek 1 May 2019 year 11:28 On 28 th April 2019, at the Church of Ss. Constantine and Helen, Equal-to-the-Apostles, located in the territory of the summer residence of the Consulate General of Russia in Istanbul, the Paschal Matins with the procession of the cross and the Divine Liturgy were celebrated by Priest Georgy Sergeyev, acting rector of the church, responsible for taking pastoral care of the flock of the Russian Orthodox Church in the territory of the Republic of Turkey. Praying at the service were some one hundred people: Orthodox citizens of Istanbul, a group of pilgrims from Bursa, and representatives of the Russian diplomatic corps. On the day of the Radiant Resurrection of Christ the divine service was celebrated for the faithful residing in the Antalya province, at the ‘Garden of Religions’ complex located in Belek. Attending the Liturgy celebrated by Priest Georgy Ivanchoglo, who had come to Antalya with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, were over 200 people from various regions of the country, as well as staff members of the Consulate General of Russia in Antalya. On 30 th April, the Bright Tuesday, in the territory of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ankara, Priest Georgy Sergeyev celebrated the Paschal divine service. Praying at the Liturgy were compatriots living in the capital of Turkey and staff members of the diplomatic mission, official website of the Russian Orthodox Church reports.
