They will remove the Lord’s clothes—hurry to clothe yourself with them, to cover your sinful nakedness with His righteousness and accomplishments. A spear shall bring forth water and blood from His side—stand beneath the Cross with open mouth, that at least a drop of life will fall inside you, to extinguish the flames of hell which consume you. Again, I repeat: the coming days are the most favorable for sinners’ repentance, for the essence of these days is the salvation of the whole world, to which the wise thief bears witness. Amen. Syria: details of massacre of Christians at Sadad revealed. Bodies of a whole family, including the elderly and teenagers, found inside a well Damascus, November 7, 2013      The burial of a Christian family, murdered by Muslim extremists, took place on November 4 in the Syrian settlement of Sadad, reports Blagovest.info. Bodies of six people were found inside a well of the settlement which was retaken by the government troops from the islamists of the Al-Nusra front. The mass murder was probably committed on October 26. Among those killed there were: 85-year-old Matanios Ash-Sheikh, his 75-year-old wife Habsa, their 45-year-old daughter Njala, and two grandsons: a 18-year-old university student Ranim and a 16-year-old school student Fadi. The sixth victim of the militants was 90-year-old Mariam, the teenagers " grandmother from the side of their father. The total number of victims in Sadad, whose population consists mainly of believers of the Syriac Church, is 45 people. The history of this settlement goes back to 2000 b.C., it is first mentioned in the Old Testament as Cedad. To this day local residents speak Aramaic—the language that Jesus Christ spoke. During his talk with representatives of the " Aid to Church in need " charity, the Melkite (Greek-Catholic) Patriarch Gregory III Laham of Antioch called the actions of the militants in Sadad " brutality " . " I do not understand why the world community is not raising its voice for denouncing such cruelty, " said the Hierarch. On November 7, Patriarch Gregory was to speak at the panel discussion on the situation in Syria, organized by " Aid to Church in need " in Augsburg (Germany). In October the head of Syrian Melkites visited Great Britain on invitation of the same aid organization, where he called upon the politicians, journalists, and Christian congregations to give support to the persecuted followers of Christ in his country. The manslaughter in Sadad has become the bloodiest act of violence towards Christians for the whole period of the civil war in Syria that began in March 2011. In the eyes of local Christians, those killed in Sadad are genuine martyrs, for they suffered exclusively for their faith. Pravoslavie.ru 8 ноября 2013 г. ... A common characteristic of all creation is corruption and death, and yet we are told that God is not the author of death, and that all of creation awaits its redemption through the revealing of the saints, when all of heaven and earth will be united to God. Within this framework, St. Maximus the Confessor is recognized as a theological and spiritual giant by the Orthodox Church. The best example of such an understanding, and the presentation of such an understanding of the Old Testament, is the famous sermon of the holy First Martyr Stephan, related in the 7 th chapter of the Acts of the Apostles. Those who are interested in the topic mentioned here, should compare the conception of the Old Testament in the presentation of the Apostle Stephan and the same conception in the presentation of Prof. Kartashev. They will be easily convinced of their contrasts and will be able to judge for themselves, which of these conceptions is more logical, successive, has more historical understanding and artistic intuition. The true church understanding of this question is still absolutely identical to the understanding of it by the Apostle Stephan in the, one might say, first minutes of the Christian Church – Its unified character and catholicity, as it was defined by the great teacher of the Church St. Vicente Lerinsky: «What the whole Church always and everywhere believes and believed is unified-catholic.» Because the Church and Church truth, necessary for the eternal salvation of the soul, cannot depend on temporary historical and geographical factors. The Church considers only that theology, which has roots in eternity, to be Its own. Then it does not ask for any scientific diplomas from a theologian, but Itself confers them on Galilean fisherman John the Theologian and even on the malefactor on the cross: «for while the one was led down to hades by the heaviness of his blaspheming, the other was lightened of his sins, unto the knowledge of things divine.» The Church will never accept any other deep thinking as Its own and does not call it by the holy and elevated name of Theology, recognizing everything that does not belong to It – as mundane foolish wisdom, no matter what the external world calls it. Protestantism sank to the disgrace of «theologians,» like Prof. B. Bauer, «Pastor» Drews and others, who rejected the reality of Christ’s existence. Is it possible that scholarly «Orthodox theology» will come to such disgrace as well? Читать далее Источник: Translated from Russian by Tatiana Pavlova. They did not come on their own initiative. The Council consisted mostly of the bishops of the Russian Church and was greatly influenced by the tsar. When in February 1667 Ioasaf was elected a new patriarch, the conciliar actions began to be signed in this way: ‘We, by God’s grace the Ecumenical Patriarch Lord Paisius, and the Pope and Patriarch of the Great City of Alexandria and the universal judge, and Lord Macarius the Patriarch of God’s City of Great Antioch and All the East, together with our brother and concelebrant Lord Ioasaf, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, and the most reverend metropolitans, archbishops and bishops in Russia and together with the Greek hierarchs who happen to stay here and others and together with the whole sacred Council of the Great Russian State’ (Деяния Московских Соборов 1666 и 1667 гг. Thus the Eastern patriarchs saw the Patriarch of Moscow as their equal. There is evidence of the early 18 th century which seems to violate this principle of equality. The Response to the Anglicansof April 18, 1718, written on behalf of three patriarchs (Jeremiah of Constantinople, Samuel of Alexandria and Chrysanthus of Jerusalem) states: ‘Our holy Church of Christ is reinforced today by four pillars, that is, four patriarchs and remains immovable and inviolable. She has as the first in honour the Patriarch of Constantinople, the second the Pope of Alexandria, the third the [Patriarch of] Antioch, the fourth [the Patriarch of] Jerusalem. Together with them [the patriarchs] she is made up and filled by autocephalous archbishops, namely: the Archbishop of Moscow, who is also the Patriarch of All Russia, and two archbishops of the Asian Iberia... besides there is [the archbishop of] Ochride also called [the archbishop of] Old Justiniana and the archbishop of Cyprus called the archbishop of New Justiniana, as well as their numerous subject bishops and metropolitans’ (see, Mansi .

Prayers requested for Egypt " s Coptic Christians/Православие.Ru Prayers requested for Egypt " s Coptic Christians October 20, 2011 Bishop Serapion of Los Angeles, Coptic Orthodox Church. Recent violence in Egypt resulting in the deaths of Coptic Christians has caused suffering and anxiety in the Coptic community in the United States. On behalf of the Orthodox Church in America, Archpriest Leonid Kishkovsky, Director of External Affairs and Interchurch Relations, spoke with leaders of the Coptic Church in America, expressing the concern and solidarity of the Orthodox Church in America. He conveyed to the Coptic leaders a message of sympathy from His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, and the Holy Synod of the OCA. One of the Coptic leaders, His Grace, Bishop Serapion, was on the way to the airport to travel to Cairo when he spoke with Father Leonid. Bishop Serapion expressed his appreciation for the love and solidarity of the Orthodox Church in America, and promised to share his impressions of the situation upon his return from Egypt. Dramatic events in Egypt during the year 2011 have seen the end of the rule of President Mubarak as a result of demonstrations and popular pressure. At the same time, there has been the danger of the emergence of extremist movements. In Egypt, 10% of the population is Coptic Christian, led by Pope Shenouda. In the majority Muslim population, the possible emergence of extremist political or religious groups would put the minority Christian population at risk. The largest community of Christians in the Middle East is the Coptic Church of Egypt. In Egypt, there are also small Catholic and Protestant communities, as well as the historic Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria. Most recently, military and security forces dealt with demonstrators for democracy violently, resulting in the deaths of some twenty-five Coptic Christians. This violence has been deeply wounding to the Coptic community, and indeed to the whole of Egyptian society. Egyptians who are Muslim by faith have come forward with expressions of solidarity with the Coptic Church and the Christian minority. It is the request of Metropolitan Jonah that the clergy and faithful of the Orthodox Church in America offer fervent prayers for the Coptic Church and for all Christian churches in Egypt and the Middle East. The 90th anniversary of the Schism of Tylawa: Reunion of Eastern Catholics with the Orthodox Church      In the middle of September 2016, Polish Orthodox believers celebrated the 90th anniversary of the returning of the people of Lemkos to the Orthodox Church from the Uniate Church. A small village of Tylawa located on the border between Poland and Slovakia was the center of the celebrations. The village of Tylawa is a significant place for the Polish part of the Subcarpathian region and for all the Polish Orthodox Church. In the autumn of 1926 the residents of the village who are the people of Lemkos (Rusyns) announced their desire to return and reunite with the Orthodox Church from the Uniate Church. Within a few years of this event almost 50 thousand Lemkos decided to support the decision of the Tylawa residents and to return to Orthodoxy as well. The descendants of these people came these days to Tylawa to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the so-called schism of Tylawa together with guests from Romania, . Rusyns adopted Eastern Rite Christianity in the middle of the 9th century. Many laity and even some representatives of the Uniate clergy living in the Carpathians considered themselves Orthodox Christians even before the schism of Tylawa. Yet massive liturgical changes initiated by Uniate clergy from Galicia together with Ukrainian nationalist propaganda made Lemkos abandon the Eastern Catholic Church. The massive return of the Lemkos to Orthodoxy was preceded by the activity of the martyr Maxim Gorlitsky. Having been killed by an Austrian army officer for the Orthodox Christian faith, he was heard shouting before his death: “Long live holy Orthodoxy, long live holy Russia!” Bishop Paisios of Gorlice told journalists during the celebrations " “Orthodoxy burst as a flame in the hearts of believers, both of the people who heard the words of the martyr and of the people who learned about them and this flame embraced our whole country. Fathers slain at Sinai and Raithu Commemorated on January 14/27 The Holy Monastic Fathers Slain at Sinai and Raithu. There were two occasions when the monks and hermits were murdered by the barbarians. The first took place in the fourth century when forty Fathers were killed at Mt. Sinai, and thirty-nine were slain at Raithu on the same day. Mount Sinai, where the Ten Commandments had been given to Moses, was also the site of another miracle. Ammonios, an Egyptian monk, witnessed the murder of the forty holy Fathers at Sinai. He tells of how the Saracens attacked the monastery and would have killed them all, if God had not intervened. A fire appeared on the summit of the peak, and the whole mountain smoked. The barbarians were terrified, and fled, while the surviving monks thanked God for sparing them. That day, the Blemmyes (an Arab tribe) killed thirty-nine Fathers at Raithu (on the shores of the Red Sea). Igumen Paul of Raithu exhorted his monks to endure their suffering with courage and a pure heart. The second massacres occurred nearly a hundred years later, and was also recorded by an eyewitness who miraculously escaped: Saint Nilus the Faster (November 12). The Arabs permitted some of the monks run for their lives. They crossed the valley and climbed up a mountain. From this vantage point, they saw the bedouin kill the monks and ransack their cells. The Sinai and Raithu ascetics lived a particularly strict life: they spent the whole week at prayer in their cells. On Saturday they gathered for the all-night Vigil, and on Sunday they received the Holy Mysteries. Their only food was dates and water. Many of the ascetics of the desert were glorified by the gift of wonderworking: the Elders Moses, Joseph and others. Mentioned in the service to these monastic Fathers are: Isaiah, Sava, Moses and his disciple Moses, Jeremiah, Paul, Adam, Sergius, Domnus, Proclus, Hypatius, Isaac, Macarius, Mark, Benjamin, Eusebius and Elias. Troparion — Tone 4 Your holy martyrs, O Lord,/Through their sufferings have received an incorruptible crown from You, our God./For having Your strength, they laid low their adversaries,/And shattered the powerless boldness of demons./Through their intercessions, save our souls! Vladimir Putin: “We are restoring historical truth about World War I” Moscow, August 3, 2014 The ceremony of unveiling of the monument to the fallen heroes of the World War I was organized on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow. One of the key events, dedicated to the 100th anniversary since the beginning of World War I, took place on August 1. Russian president Vladimir Putin took part in the ceremony.      “Now we are restoring the historical truth about World War I,” noted the president in his speech at the opening ceremony, “and countless examples of personal courage, military valor, and true patriotism of the Russian soldiers and officers and the whole Russian society are revealed to us. The role of Russia in that difficult, crucial time for the world, especially at the pre-war period, is coming to light. It clearly reflects the key character trait of our country, of our people. “Over many centuries, Russia stood for strong and trust-based relations between countries. It was the same on the eve of WWI, when Russia did its best to persuade Europe to solve the conflict between Serbia and Austria-Hungary peacefully and without bloodshed. But Russia was not heard, and it had to answer the challenge, defending its Slavic brothers and protecting itself and its citizens from the external threat”. “Russia fulfilled its allied duties. Its campaigns in Prussia and Galicia frustrated the enemy’s plans, enabled the allies to hold the front and protect Paris, and made the enemy throw a considerable part of its troops to the east, where the Russian regiments fought bravely. Russia managed to hold back this attack and then to take the offensive. And the whole world heard about the legendary “Brusilov breakthrough” (after the general Alexei Brusilov). “However, this victory was stolen from our country. It was stolen by those who had called for the defeat of their own motherland, their army, spread strife inside Russia, thirsted for power, and betrayed their own national interests”.      “Today we are restoring the link of times, the continuity of our history, and World War I. Its military leaders and soldiers will find their rightful place in it (as is popularly said: “better late than never”), and that sacred memory, well-deserved by those who fought in World War I, is beginning to dwell in our hearts. Justice is triumphing on the pages of books and textbooks, in media, in films; and to be sure, in such memorials as the one we are unveiling today,” noted Vladimir Putin. 7 августа 2014 г.
