Some places are tolerant and open but some areas of Indonesia are very hard line Muslim. The Orthodox avoid those areas as it is dangerous for them to openly practice missionary activities. Fr. Daniel says that from time to time organized violence occurs against Orthodox Christians and it is hard to predict when and where. The Orthodox community in Indonesia lives in constant fear and discrimination. When Fr. Daniel opened the Orthodox mission in Indonesia there were many problems with the Indonesian police. Since he has joined the ROCOR the situation with the local administration has improved but Fr. Daniel states that “the police are not afraid of anything, they don’t care about anyone or anything”. Whenever his Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion visits his flock in Indonesia Fr. Daniel is required to report to the authorities that he is receiving a foreign guest for religious purposes. The police escort the Metropolitan from the airport and keep a close eye on him. International Aid from Orthodox Christian Churches Orthodox Missionary work in Eastern Indonesia Fr. Daniel travels to U.S.A every month and conducts fundraising activities amongst Orthodox Russians, Greeks, Serbs and Antiochians. The bulk of the financial aid that the Indonesia Orthodox Church receives is from donors in the U.S.A. In 2007 through the efforts of His Grace Bishop Mark of Egorievsk organized a link between the Orthodox Community in Indonesia and the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriachate. As a result of these ties Moscow supplements the wages of the Indonesian clergy but Fr. Daniel says that this is minimal and not enough- “The help is not enough, not all of the priests receive help”. For Orthodox priests in Indonesia it is very difficult to live, being such a strict Islamic country the Orthodox clergy cannot and will not be employed by anybody. Indonesia is the largest Islamic country in the world and the Orthodox clergy are heavily discriminated against. Orthodox Baptism in Papua Projects of the Indonesian Mission The Orthodox Church in Indonesia needs financial help to continue printing Orthodox literature, buying land and building churches. Fr Daniel quotes, “The possibilities for the growth of Orthodoxy in Indonesia are huge, for a small investment into missionary work; the returns are evident through the large number of Indonesians converting to the Orthodox Church.” The Indonesian Orthodox People love the shepherd of their spiritual flock Metropolitan Hilarion Ordinates Fr. Athanasius from Papa - (Left to Right) Fr. Daniel, Reader Alexander Paramonov, Metropolitan Hilarion, Fr. Athanasius " We all love Metropolitan Hilarion so much. He is so fatherly and humble and understanding. He helps us as much as he can in the way of financial needs, but with more help we can bring many more Indonesians to salvation in the Orthodox Church. Archive Metropolitan Nicholas of Akhalkalaki and Kumurdo: Alarming is an assertion that Patriarchate of Constantinople has the exclusive right to interfere in the internal affairs of any Local Church 11 January 2019 year 10:04 In an interview to the InterPressNews Georgian news agency, a hierarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Nicholas of Akhalkalaki and Kumurdo, said that in order to take a decision concerning the actions of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in Ukraine, a thorough examination of this matter is needed. Speaking about the newly created structure, Metropolitan Nicholas emphasized, in particular, that “in the current situation it is very important to ascertain the canonicity of ordination of those who are now referred to as the Ukrainian Church, since some of them were anathematized, and all the Orthodox Churches, including that of Constantinople, recognized the anathema.” According to the Georgian hierarch, some of these people have no apostolic consecration and therefore are self-proclaimed bishops. “How will these hierarchs con-celebrate the Divine Liturgy with us? We cannot recognize such religious figures without canonical consecration,” Metropolitan Nicholas added. The hierarch mentioned that this issue had been discussed at a session of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church and noted that the official letter concerning the Ukrainian issue, sent by the Patriarchate of Constantinople, “contains a rather alarming phrase that the Patriarchate of Constantinople has the exclusive right to interfere in the internal affairs of any Local Church.” “For me personally it is unacceptable, for it can cause many difficulties in future,” Vladyka Nicholas said. The members of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church decided to continue the examination of this issue during next meetings. As Metropolitan Nicholas of Akhalkalaki and Kumurdo noted, the participants in the session found it advisable to study the exact text of the tomos granted in Istanbul, as well as to hear opinions of other Local Orthodox Churches on this matter. At the same time, Metropolitan Nicholas pointed out that the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church would not raise principle objections of the episcopate of the Georgian Patriarchate, “but it is necessary to take into account on what conditions this autocephaly is being applied.” DECR Communication Service /Patriarchia.ru Календарь ← 7 December 2023 year

Ted 10 февраля 2016, 04:00 The EU has no business legally or otherwise making demand on the Holy Mountain. When Greece entered the then European Community, Athens specifically raised the issue of Mount Athos and agreements were reached that excluded the Holy Mountain from European laws applying elsewhere throughout the European Community-Union. Ultimately, the EU demands on Mount Athos have nothing to do with law but with political correctness and secular intolerance. The prohibition on women has nothing to do with discrimination and everything to do with tradition and the Monastic ways of life that have governed the Holy Mountain throughout history. The Holy Mountain is dedicated to the Holy Theotokos the Mother of God, so none can reasonably claim the Monasteries are against women. There is also an appalling history by the Europeans interfering in the internal affairs of Greece and much of the time much damage was done to the Orthodox Church of Greece whose internal affairs were violated. Remains of Tsar Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Are Authentic Say Investigators November 11, 2015      According to several articles released by Interfax-Religion the first stage of the forensic testing on the supposed relics of Sts. Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra has been concluded. Vladimir Solovyov, senior investigator with the main Criminalistics Department of the Investigative Committee, stated on Wednesday: " At this stage, we faced the task of identifying the skulls of Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorovna. The studies have confirmed that they indeed belong to them. This identification has been completed.” " The samples exhibited heteroplasmy, a rare genetic mutation present in Nicholas II samples, " Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said. Additionally, DNA extracted from the alleged lower of jaw of the Empress Alexandra yielded rare mitochondrial DNA which matches that found in descendants of her grandmother, the British Queen Victoria, Markin stated. Although investigators are already convinced that the samples are genuine, further tests will be conducted in an attempt to provide irrefutable evidence of the veracity of the remains, including comparisons with blood samples taken from the clothes worn by Emperor Alexander II on March 1, 1881, the day of his assassination, which have been kept in the State Hermitage Museum. For its part, the Russian Orthodox Church will wait until all investigations have been concluded before making a decision about the veracity of the alleged relics. " I think we should wait for the results of these tests and then the Church will weigh all available information and will make its decision in good time, " Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, head of the Synodal Department for Church and Society Relations, who is also a member of the working group on issues relating to the study and reburial of the remains of the tsar " s family, stated on Wednesday. The House of Romanov, headed by Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna who lives in Spain, hopes to become privy to the findings of the DNA investigations. Royal House lawyer German Lukyanov stated, " The Russian Imperial House has a right to become familiar with the results of the tests and all conclusions drawn by experts. We are hoping that it will happen after the investigation is completed and the criminal case is closed.” A burial ceremony for St. Alexey the Tsarevich and St. Maria the Grand Duchess may be celebrated in February, according to Russian State Archive head Sergey Mironenko. Schismatics forcibly seize Orthodox church in Rivne region Village Khodosy, the Ukraine, September 24, 2014 Representatives of the self-declared “Kyiv Patriarchate” with support of the nationalists have seized the Church of the Image of Christ, “Not Made by Hands”, in Khodosy village of the Rivne district of the Ukraine’s Rivne region. This happened on September 20, 2014. “Several automobiles arrived and tough guys got out of them. Some of them were wearing black camouflage clothing with yellow bands on their hands. Most likely these were representatives of “The Right Sector”,” relates the local Priest, Roman Ignatyuk, an eyewitness of the incident, cited by the Rivne Diocese’s website. A prayer service then was being performed at the church. The group of arrived people gathered outside and started holding a meeting and vote on the subject of the jurisdiction of the church. The faithful Orthodox locked themselves from inside. “A real taking of the church by storm from outside began. They attempted to cut off the main doors’ lock by circular saw. Then they tried to take other doors off their hinges. And in the end they brought a crowbar and simply wrested the side doors of the right choir open,” the message reads. The priests more than once called to The Ukrainian Security Service and the police, asking to come. Among the attackers there was a police officer who, however, did not interfere with the aggression. As the message states, the faithful became a human shield, “not letting the unrighteous people go through the broken doors”. The activists forced the central doors and, taking the priest, who was trying to stop them, by his liturgical vestments, threw him outside. “They then grabbed my arm and leg and also wanted to throw me out of the church. But this time they did not succeed in that. I got away with only torn-off button and tab on my cassock,” writes Fr. Roman. According to him, the schismatic priests, who were among the group, justified their actions by the alleged “vote” of the village community to go over to “the Kyiv Patriarchate”. 28 сентября 2014 г. Tweet Нравится Patriarch of Jerusalem: no sacrilege in opening Lord’s tomb; believer should not seek for signs Moscow, December 15, 2016      His Holiness Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem has responded to criticisms that restoring the Lord’s Sepulchre constitutes an invasion of a holy space and a sacrilege. Speaking in an interview with the press service of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem he stated, “The fact is that restoration has been ongoing in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for many years already; the only part of the church that remained untouched was the Edicule, which therefore was in need of restoration, particularly of the burial cave of Christ, that is the Holy Sepulchre.” He noted that restoration is being done on the entire complex, which therefore necessarily includes the very funeral bed of the Lord. Head of the restoration project Professor Antonia Moropoulou of the Athens Polytechnic University stated that the marble slab was removed to gain access to the historic masonry underneath which was swollen from decades of rainwater falling through a hole in the roof of the tomb. The walls were restored and water damage fixed. The patriarch further noted that the corroded drainage system, dating to Ottoman times, is also to be restored in the future, to prevent further water damage to the Edicule. Addressing circulating gossip of mysterious occurrences over Jerusalem—the blast of angels’ trumpets and supernatural phenomena in the sky—at the time of the opening of the Lord’s tomb, His Holiness denied such stories, saying, “This is nonsense. There were no such phenomena. Moreover, the Orthodox faith … is reasonable worship… Believers should not ask such questions—it is totally unacceptable.” The patriarch also noted that work is moving according to schedule and they expect to celebrate Pascha 2017 at the Sepulchre. 15 декабря 2016 г. This meeting took place on April 22 at the NATO’s headquarters.      “Moscow has noticed the recent media reports on the meeting of the NATO’s First Deputy Secretary-General A. Vershbow with the so-called primate of the uncanonical “Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiyv Patriarchate”. “It seems that the alliance, realizing the utter futility of the “traditional” steps taken by the bloc in order to stir up the massive anti-Russian propaganda, is ready to overstep any moral and ethic principles, even intruding upon the spiritual sphere and shamelessly trying to cash in on the feelings of believers. At the same time the objectively existing religious and confessional reality is being openly ignored”. “Does NATO really not understand that the very fact of holding of such a meeting, to say nothing of its militaristic content, not only does not make for settling of the present conflict and finding of common ground inside the Ukrainian society which is now split, but may also become a “a delayed-action mine” under the process of the peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis based on genuine national dialogue and reconciliation?” the comment by A. Lukashevich reads. 29 апреля 2015 г. God sent Tamar a sign when He was ready to receive her into His Kingdom. Then the pious ruler bade farewell to her court and turned in prayer to an icon of Christ and the Life-giving Cross: “Lord Jesus Christ! Omnipotent Master of heaven and earth! To Thee I deliver the nation and people that were entrusted to my care and purchased by Thy Precious Blood, the children whom Thou didst bestow upon me, and to Thee I surrender my soul, O Lord!” The burial place of Queen Tamar has remained a mystery to this day. Some sources claim that her tomb is in Gelati, in a branch of burial vaults belonging to the Bagrationi dynasty, while others argue that her holy relics are preserved in a vault at the Holy Cross Monastery in Jerusalem. Exalted among the saints, O Holy and Righteous Queen Tamar, thou didst erect churches atop the highest peaks, strengthen the armies of the Christ-fearing Georgian nation by thy prayers, and defeat the Muslim armies with thy right hand. Intercede with Christ God to save our souls! Tweet Нравится 14th century fresco pieced together from debris to be returned to Novgorod’s St. Sophia Cathedral Moscow, January 16, 2017      The fourteenth century ”Mother of God Enthroned” fresco, restored from its various parts, is to be returned to St. Sophia’s Cathedral in the Novgorod Kremlin, reports TASS . The uniqueness of the fresco’s restoration, according to Novgorod museum-reserve director Natalia Grigorieva, consists in that experts gathered its pieces literally from debris, covered in seventeenth century plaster. “Scientists discovered the fresco fragments during excavations,” first in 1956, then in the 1990s during restoration of the cathedral she explained. The “Mother of God Enthroned” icon, presumably dating to 1466, depicts the Mother of God seated on a throne with the Christ Child, flanked by the archangels Michael and Gabriel. The museum director clarified that the fresco will be returned to a pillar in the cathedral in 2017, in coordination with the Russian Ministry of Culture and with the blessing of Metropolitan Lev of Novgorod and Staraya Russa. “The image is very beautiful and expressive, painted with the traditional colors of that time: the Mother of God in a blue coif and tunic of the same color with white trimming, and a bright blue background. The archangels in ochre, here characterized by fine detail, right down to the fingernails,” stated artist-restorer Tatiana Romashkevich. The fresco, 5 ft. 7 in. x 3 ft. 2 in., will be placed in its historical place, in the southern half of St. Sophia’s Cathedral. 16 января 2017 г. Конечно, основные принципы, определившие облик надгробного комплекса преподобного Зосимы, возникли не на Соловках, а были порождены более или менее общими представлениями людей того времени о том, как должно быть оформлено место упокоения святого. И проведенное выше исследование свидетельствует, что сходные принципы с большей или меньшей последовательностью получили воплощение в формировании подавляющего большинства надгробных комплексов русских святых XVI – начала XVII вв. Alexander Melnik Museum of the Rostov Kremlin The tombs of saints in Russian churches in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries The saint’s shrine, which was undoubtedly one of focuses of the religious life, played a great role in the Mediaeval Russian society. Common people, princes, and tzars address to it their prayers asking for intercession. To have an idea how these shrines actually looked like i s of great importance for better understanding of several cultural phenomena. The earliest period giving us an opportunity of a proper reconstruction is the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, though no shrine complex has been preserved intact. Until recently an issue of the shrine complex as a whole has not been examined, each item was studied separately. The present paper demonstrates that the inventories of Russian monasteries with some data from the hagiography, chronicles and other documents provide a lot of information concerning the arrangement of the saint’s tomb. The paper deals with more than thirty of shrine complexes in most of the regions of Russia, which provide quite representative picture. In this period relics of the Russian saints either were kept in reliquary-tombs over the floor, or an empty tomb was displayed over the place where the saint was buried. Most of the shrines of that time were made of wood or stone, rarely of silver or of gold if the saint was especially venerated by the Grand Princes or Tsars. The reliquary-tombs could be situated in the naos of a church, as well as in the porch, in the narthex, in the podklet (on the underground floor), or in a special side chapel. Sometimes the saints’ tombs were put in special buildings named in the documents grobnitsa (tomb-chapel). Though the shrines could be situated in different places of the church, one may notice the preference of the location near the eastern part of the south wall, “on the right side” as the sources usually indicate. This part of the church was associated in Russia with the idea of‘Paradise’ and the Salvation on the Doomsday.
