New Orthodox church consecrated in New York New York City, October 6, 2014      On Saturday, October 4, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York (the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia) consecrated the new Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in New York (Brooklyn, Sheepshead Bay). It can be said that for today this is one of the largest Orthodox churches in New York City and is inferior only to the St. Nicholas Cathedral on Manhattan (belonging to the Moscow Patriarchate) in respect of capacity and adornments. Most likely, only the Church of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia on 18th Avenue (the first of four Orthodox churches now active in this NY borough) can rival the newly consecrated church.      The new Church of St. John the Baptist now occupies the building of a former Methodist church; only a small, splendid dome and a distinctive cross above the entrance indicate that this is an Orthodox church. One can understand the joy of the church Rector Archpriest Alexander Belya, the parish council and all the parishioners, who over several years had to move from one rented premise of Brooklyn to another. Within the shortest possible space of time the church was repaired by the Kadar Elite Construction company, led by Michael Kadar. Benefactors and volunteers from among the parishioners actively helped in arranging the church. On Friday evening trowel men were still working here, and on Saturday morning the church was already receiving its parishioners and clergymen from neighboring communities, arriving to the celebration.      Clergy of the Cathedral of the Icon of the Mother of God “Of the Sign”, of the Church of St. John the Baptist, the Church of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, the Church of the Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos “The Inexhaustible Cup” as well as priests and deacons of other parishes of the diocese concelebrated with Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York at the Divine Liturgy and the church consecration. After the service the constructioin company director Michael Kadar and the churchwarden of the St. John the Baptist’s Church John (Ivan) Belya were presented with the highest award of the ROCOR—the Synodal Order of the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, 3rd Class. The active volunteer builders received diocesan diplomas. Pravoslavie.ru 6 октября 2014 г. Orthodox Church Destruction Fought in Morocco June 8, 2012 The Russian Orthodox Church is fighting the demolition of a church in Casablanca after a defrocked priest illegally sold it to a local developer, church officials say. The Dormition Church of the Mother of God sits on valuable land in the city " s downtown. Built by Russian emigres in 1958, it is one of only two Russian Orthodox churches in Morocco. The Dormition officially belonged to a Moroccan parish linked to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, an international synod based in New York. Sometime between late December and early January, the defrocked priest secretly sold the church to a Moroccan real estate firm using false documents, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia reported Friday. That former priest, French citizen Nikolai Semenoff, then hired local workers to enter the church and prepare it for demolition, the rector of the Resurrection Church in Rabat, Morocco, said in comments carried by the Orthodox organization " s website. " On Feb. 1, 2012, the church, recently renovated through the efforts of local parishioners, was entered by laborers who destroyed the valuable iconostasis, tore the old icons off the walls and tried to extract the holy items from the church to an unknown destination, but were stopped by the tenant of the parish property, " Priest Maksim Massalitine said. Police detained Semenoff at a Casablanca airport later that month. An investigation into the church " s sale is under way. Semenoff is prohibited from leaving the country during the inquiry. On April 16, the real estate firm sent an eviction notice to the building " s tenant, La Fondation Marocaine pour la Jeunesse, l " Initiative et le Developpement. The notice asked the tenant to vacate the building within three months so that it could be demolished. The Moscow Patriarchate has asked the Russian Embassy in Morocco to prevent the demolition. " We are attempting in every way possible to oppose the demolition of the church, " archbishop Mark of Yegoryevsk, head of the Patriarchate " s department for institutions abroad, said Wednesday, Itar-Tass reported. More than a hundred Russian Orthodox faithful who have relocated from Morocco to the United States have signed a petition to the Moroccan government to forbid the demolition, Itar-Tass reported. On Monday, several dozen worshipers joined by Christians and Muslims protested outside the church, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia reported. There is now a 24-hour-a-day vigil surrounding the church. The Moscow Times 8 июня 2012 г. ... Комментарии Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку

Archive Metropolitan Anthony of Borispol and Brovary: a ‘neo-Orthodoxy’ alien to the faith of the Church is being created now 11 August 2021 year 13:28 Metropolitan Anthony of Borispol and Brovary, chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, stated that it is especially important for the Orthodox Ukrainian to preserve faithfulness to the true faith now that attempts are made to introduce to the Church’s doctrine some innovations alien to it.  The church situation in Ukraine is not only a problem of the survival of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, but also a catalyst of the situation throughout the world when attempts are made to impose a ‘neo-Orthodoxy’ on the Church, he said in his comment to the ‘Pershyi Nezalezhniy’ (First Independent) Ukrainian TV news channel. According to His Eminence, faithfulness to the Orthodox faith has always helped Ukrainians to preserve their identity, but now the situation in the entire Orthodox world is dependent on this faithfulness. “Today, we see in the Orthodox world a tendency to substitute the principles of canon law, life of discipline and even the faith in order to shift key points”, he said, “And I would even say that what is being created is a certain ‘neo-Orthodoxy’, a compete novel to the Orthodox Church. Therefore, for Orthodox Ukraine it is now a matter of survival not only for us as Orthodox people in Ukraine - we are now generally a catalyst of the situation in the Orthodox world”.  Many are looking at Ukraine, at how the church situation will develop, he said. “Most of our people, thank God, are faithful to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and they testify to this by ‘their feet’ because people come to church; thousands and hundreds of thousands come to processions with the cross. It is a testimony [to the support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church] contrary to commissioned public opinion polls artificially created with the aim to convince our society that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is numerically decreasing, that we have no supporters”.  According to Metropolitan Anthony, the church, divine service, procession with the cross - all this testify to the true situation in Ukrainian Orthodoxy; for most Ukrainians are parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Archive Two communities, victims of OCU raids, celebrate Pascha in new churches 4 May 2021 year 11:31 Pascha 2021 has become special for two communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, who have been deprived of their churches seized by the ‘OCU’. After a raiding attack made by schismatics, who captured on 21 February 2019 the church of the Nativity of St John the Baptist at the Bronitsa village, Kamen-Kashirskiy district, Volyn region, the canonical Church’s community driven away from their church, had to assemble for divine services at an adjusted facility, but this time they celebrated the feast of the Radiant Resurrection of Christ in a new church erected for very few months. The office of the foundation laying was accomplished by Bishop Afanasiy of Kamen-Kashirskyi, vicar of the diocese of Volyn, on November 8, 2020, and already on March 27, 2021, the cupola crosses were blessed and installed on the church dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God ‘Swift to Hearken " and built by the community instead of the captured one. The photos of the first Paschal Liturgy were published in Facebook by the rector of the community, Rev. Nazary Priymak. The parishioners of the St. Michael community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Nesvich village, Lutsk district, Volyn region, also celebrated Pascha in a new church build instead of the church taken away by the ‘OCU’. The photos of the Paschal service were published in Facebook by the rector of the community, Archpriest Nikolay Kovalchuk. It is still necessary to carry out a great deal of construction work but the parishioners already assemble in it for divine services. As the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported on its website, because of the raiding actions of the ‘OCU activists, the local St. Michael community of the canonical Church has lost access to their own church since March 4, 2019. Already on March 18, by an order of the head of the Volyn regional state administration, the parish was re-registered in favour of schismatic and later by another order the church, which is an architectural monument, was transferred for use to a newly formed community of the ‘OCU’. At first, the aggrieved community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church assembled at the church house near the church but the people were pushed from it as well. For a long time, the parishioners, who remained faithful to the canonical church, assembled for worship in a tent installed near the church but when colds came, the fellow-villagers were let in her home by one of the parishioners. Archive Faithful in Zhytomyr region stand in prayer protesting against illegal transfer of a Ukrainian Orthodox Church community to OCU 31 May 2022 year 10:23 On May 29, 2022, in the village of Popelnya, Zhytomyr region, the faithful have been standing in prayer protesting against the illegal transfer of the community of St. Nicholas’ church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to OCU, the Union of Orthodox Journalists reports with reference to the press service of the Zhitomir diocese. The parishioners of the church in Popelnya have been ardently praying for several hours straight. The diocese reports that thanks to the resistance of parishioners it was possible to avoid a conflict with an initiative group which organized the signatures collection for the community’s transfer to the OCU. The parishioners belonging to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the OCU supporters agreed to clear the territory of the church. The police and representatives of the territorial defense unit stayed to stand guard over the church building. The signatures collection was initiated by Vasily Zarechny, a local resident. He called on Archpriest Pyotr Lis, rector of the church, to transfer to the OCU. The rector told the faithful that it was impossible to change the Church as it is impossible to change mother and wife. “This is the Church of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. Our native Ukrainian Orthodox Church is the only one true canonical Orthodox Church in our land,” he said. The day before the standing in prayer, the cars with loudspeakers were running along the village. The local people were called to come to the church and put their signatures for the transfer to the OCU. Some locals who responded to the call said they had not understood for what they came to vote. Among the signers there were former parishioners of the church and people who called themselves non-believers and even Buddhists. The diocese asks how these people who have nothing in common with this church can seal its fate. “It is interesting to note that contrary to the standard practice of signatures collection, exact residence address was not put next to the signer’s name. Therefore it was impossible to ascertain the identity of the large part of those advocating for the transfer to the OCU,” the diocese points out and adds that issues pertaining to church life must be resolved exclusively by religious community. Archive Zakarpattia: parishioners of the canonical Church have to worship outdoors in winter 16 February 2021 year 18:16 Even a cold weather that has recently set in did not prevent the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s community at the Delovoye village (Zakarpatska Oblast, Ukraine), who have been deprived of their church because of the raiding of schismatics. On February 15, 2021, the feast of the Meeting of Our Lord, a great number of parishioners worshiped during the Divine Liturgy next to a tiny chapel that has become now a place for the community’s worship. The service was streamed live by Archimandrite Benedict (Khromey) on his page on Facebook. It was reported in 2019 that the re-registration of the canonical Church’s community at the Delovoye village to an ‘OCU’ schismatic structure with the help of public agents who had swindled out the statute documents from the priest. However, at that moment, the actual capture of the church by schismatics failed as parishioners succeeded in defending the church of the Dormition from raiders. There are few proponents of the ‘OCU’ in the Zakarpattian village while the community of the canonical Church is large in number. During the raiding attacks several hundreds of the faithful came out to defend their church. At present, judicial processes are going on in which the Orthodox community contests the actions of the authorities by pointing out that the re-registration of the church building took place on the basis of actually stolen documents. However, one of the court decisions in favor of raiders from the ‘OCU’ has come into force. And despite an appeal filed after the ‘OCU’ representatives resorted to the executive service on February 3, 2021, the church of the Dormition was blocked by OMON (Special Purpose Police Unit) and later representatives of the schismatic structure were allowed to enter the building. The following day, the schismatic ‘service’ at the captured church was attended only by some 20 people, while the large community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, deprived of their church, had to assemble for worship in the open despite the February cold. The community will continue using legal methods to defend their church while considering a possibility for building a new church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - the decision to give a plot of land for such construction has been made by one of the women parishioners.
