Archive Administrator of Moscow Patriarchate parishes in East and South-East Asia begins his trip to Philippines 22 June 2018 year 12:50 June 22, 2018 – the administrator of the Moscow Patriarchate parishes in East and South-East Asia, Archbishop Sergiy of Solnechnogorsk, has arrived in Davao, the administrative center of Mindanao Island in Philippines. At Francisco Bangoy international airport, he was met by Hieromonk Pitirim (Dondenko), secretary of the administrator of the Moscow Patriarchate in East and South-East Asia and senior priest at the Dormition church in Singapore; Rev. Stanislav Rasputin, permanent priest of the Moscow Patriarchate parish in General Santos city; Hieromonk Corniliy (Molev), permanent cleric of the Parish of the Blessed Matrona of Moscow in Davao; Rev. Siluan Thompson (Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia), rector of the church of St. John of Shanghai; wardens of the Moscow Patriarchate parishes on Mindanao Island, and staff members of the missionary center at the St.  Matrona church. Archbishop Sergiy visited the St. Matrona church, in which he was welcomed by the Philippian students undergoing training before entering St. Petersburg Theological Academy. The young people greeted His Eminence and presented him with a basket with Philippian fruits. Later that day, the archpastor celebrated vespers at the St. Matrona church at the Davao missionary center. Through the efforts made by an initiative group of priest since 2015, Christian communities in Mindanao, founded in the early 20th century by Grigorio Aglipay, began to join the Moscow Patriarchate. From 2015 to 2016, the work was carried out to catechize the Philippians who embraced Orthodoxy; the Russian Orthodox clergy celebrated divine services; new churches were built; liturgical and sacred texts were translated into the Sebyano language. Due to a lack of possibility for permanent pastoral care for the parishes by Orthodox priests, missionaries taught wardens to celebrate using the lay order. The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, by its decision of October 21, 2016 (Minutes 99), appointed Archbishop Sergiy of Solnechnogorsk as administrator of the Moscow Patriarchate parishes in East and South-East Asia including in the Republic of Philippines. In fulfilling the will of the Supreme Authority, Archbishop Sergiy has worked to revive the Parish of Our Lady of Iveron in Manila, which has functioned since 1934. He has also organized pastoral care for Orthodox compatriots residing in Philippines and for converted local communities. At present, an administrative and religious education center is being created in Davao for coordination of pastoral care for members of the Moscow Patriarch communities in Mindanao, catechizing those who decided to embrace Orthodoxy and training candidates for studies at theological schools of the Russian Orthodox Church. Скачать epub pdf Bishop Raphael Hawaweeny was canonized in the Spring of this year, 85 years after his dormition. The decision was made by the Synod of the Orthodox Church in America, working in close connection with the local Archdiocese of the Antiochian Patriarchate. The religious press and especially the Orthodox Church in America have thoroughly described the event and my intent is not to duplicate materials already published on that subject. I would like only to share some thoughts with the readers of Jacob’s Well about the contemporary significance of the recent canonization for Orthodoxy in our country. The life of St. Raphael reflects accurately the catholic unity of the Church and his pastoral ministry remains an example for priests and bishops everywhere. I do not intend to recount his life which has been published together with the liturgical service in his honor, but I would like to shed light on some points which have nowadays a special significance for the Orthodox Christians living in America. Undoubtedly his ethnic origin and the religious education he received seems to have predestined St. Raphael for his future ministry as is rightly emphasized in a phrase of his kontakion where he is called «son of Syria and glory of North America.» Then the idea of overlapping episcopal jurisdictions had not yet come to maturity. Such an attempt against Church order had been solemnly condemned by a council held in Constantinople in 1872 which coined that heresey as ethno-phyletism (ecclesiastical nationalism). The missionary work in North America had been initiated and organized by the Russian Church during the eighteenth century. St. Raphael took care primarily of the Arabic-speaking Christians in North America while belonging to the Russian Church which was, according to the canons, the only existing jurisdictional entity. Moreover, he publicly stated in front of St. Tikhon, his archpastor that the latter had been sent to America «to tend the flock of Christ: Russians, Slavs, Syro-Arabs, and Greek. Having passed away in 1915, he did not witness the devasting impact of the Bolshevik Revolution on the life of Orthodoxy in North America. To be sure, the Revolution was not the only facto of the ensuing canonical disorders in our country. Nevertheless, it was the starting point in the process of jurisdictional fragmentation and the very fact that such deficiencies have not already been overcome should be a matter of reflection. Holy Hierarchs are praised in the Church as Rules of Faith and Images of Humility. Let us fervently pray to St. Raphael in order that he supplicate the Lord God for the good order of His Church in America. Читать далее Источник: Peter, archbishop (Paul L " Huillier). Encyclical of Greek Archbishop Stylianos of Australia Concerning Same-Sex Marriage Concerning the impending address of the Federal Parliament concerning same-sex marriage, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia Archbishop Stylianos has issued na encyclical to his Australian flock: To the Reverend Clergy and the honourable Administrative Committees of the Parish-Communities of our Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Dearly Beloved, Further to our Encyclical of 28th May 2013, in relation to a law which the State proposes to vote upon with regard to Marriage between persons of the same gender, we write to you once again because the Federal Parliament is expected very soon to deal with the redefinition of the concept of Marriage. You might appreciate, then, should such an Act be legalized, what destructive consequences this will have on the institution of Marriage, but also on the institution of the Family more generally. As Orthodox Christians, therefore, we are obliged, once again, to express in the strongest possible terms, our objection to the enactment of such legislation, as this will assail the sacredness of the Sacrament of Marriage and the Family, as has been taught to us through the ages by our holy faith and by the Fathers of the Church. In the first instance, of course, our reaction must be through prayer to God. That is why the period of the August Fast for the Dormition of our Lady, which is about to commence, is the most appropriate time to beseech the Theotokos, of whom we ask, as " a fervent advocate and invincible battlement, fountain of mercy and sheltering retreat for the world, " to protect the People from such an aberration. We are also called upon to protest by gathering signatures, requesting the defeat of the proposed legislation. Our protest may be expressed by signing the relevant petitions or via the online internet page of the Archdiocese (marriage.greekorthodox.org.au). You shall receive detailed instruction from our Reverend Clergy. Hopeful that none of us will show indifference to such an important issue, I thank you for your cooperation in this matter and pray that the abundant blessings of God be upon you all during this blessed period of the Sacred August Fast. Sydney, 17th July 2015 With fervent fatherly prayers Archbishop Stylianos Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia PS—To be read in the Churches at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy on the Sundays of 26th July, 2nd August and 9th August. 29 июля 2015 г. As the atheistic times began to wane in the 1980s, the Soviet government transferred in 1988 the area of the Lower Lavra, with the Far Caves, to the possession of the Ukrainian Church of Russia in commemoration of the one thousandth anniversary of the Baptism of Rus " . With the return of the Lavra to the Church the monastic and spiritual life was slowly restored. During 1998 to 2000 the city of Kiev rebuilt the Dormition Cathedral and returned it to the Church . As new monks have joined elderly monks who have returned to the Lavra, the cycle of services has been re-established, building on the primary duty of the monk of never ceasing prayer. 15 сентября 2015 г. Holy Fire to be delivered to Russian churches in London for first time Moscow, April 12, 2017 Photo: s-nbcnews.com      For the first time ever, the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society (IOPS) will deliver the Holy Fire from Jerusalem to Russian parishes in London, head of the IOPS youth department Maria Korovin told RIA-Novosti on Wednesday. The Holy Fire appears annually on Holy Saturday, descending from Heaven to light the candles of the Orthodox Patriarch Jerusalem praying and waiting in the tomb of the Lord, and from there is distributed to churches throughout the Orthodox world. This year the flame will be carried in specially-made lampada-capsules on a direct flight to London, and immediately brought to the Dormition Cathedral of the Sourozh Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, and to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia Cathedral of the Dormition and the Holy Royal Martyrs. “It is gratifying that by the efforts of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society the area of care for Orthodox believers will be expanded this year, now including the British Isles. The Russian diaspora in England is constantly being replenished with young people, which undoubtedly speaks to the preservation and enhancement of the cultural and spiritual foundations of our faith. If before the Holy Fire was brought to Russian benefactors in Belarus, Ukraine, and other CIS states, then now we can proclaim the Paschal joy in European countries: in Great Britain, Serbia, Italy, Latvia, Estonia, Germany, the Czech Republic,” said Korovina. “The Holy Fire will not only unite Jerusalem, London, and Moscow, but will also sanctify special pages in the history of our countries,” she added. The history of the IOPS, celebrating its 135th anniversary this year, is inextricably bound to the British royal family, as Grand Duchess Elizabeth Romanova, the second chairman of the IOPS, was the granddaughter of Queen Victoria.

Exhibition, " Overcoming: Russian Church and Soviet authorities " opens in Yaroslavl/Православие.Ru Exhibition, " Overcoming: Russian Church and Soviet authorities " opens in Yaroslavl Yaroslavl, October 8, 2013 The exhibition of exclusive historical materials, " Overcoming: the Russian Church and the Soviet authorities " began its work on October 8 in the gallery of the Dormition Cathedral, reports Sedmitza.ru . The exhibition with this name twice amazed the visitors both in Moscow and Italy and now it has come to Yaroslavl. From October 8 to 22, residents of Yaroslavl will be able to familiarize themselves with the exploits of Orthodoxy during the difficult Soviet period. Unique archival documents, displayed on the exhibition stands, are supplemented with local materials as well—extant items and documents of clergymen and their family members. The exhibition displays the objects that tell exclusively about the earthly life of the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Yaroslavl land. The materials that underlie the exhibition were prepared by St. Tikhon " s Orthodox University and the Museum of modern history of Russia. “Fortunately, the time of persecution of the Church in our country is now in the past. But that difficult time is still remembered by those few people who survived beyond repressions, after exiles in labor camps and prisons, together with their descendants. Our duty is to tell the story it in its true colors, " noted Archbishop Veniamin of Rybinsk and Uglich at the press-conference the day before opening of the conference in the Dormition Cathedral. “This exhibition enjoyed great success last autumn in Moscow: it was visited by more than 7,000 people, and it even had to be prolonged three times,” said a co-author of the " Overcoming " exhibition, senior researcher of the Modern Church History department of St. Tikhon " s University Lidia Golovkova. “In August of this year, in Rimini, the Italian version of this exhibition was presented and it broke all attendance records. And this is symbolic: " a time to gather stones " has come, and it means that interest in culture and history is growing in our society.

John Anthony McGuckin Myrobletes Saints JOHN A. MCGUCKIN The term Myrobletes derives from the Greek for “emitting myrrh.” It describes a category of saint (and sometimes designates an icon, too – such as that of Christ, or the Virgin, or one of the saints) whose relics emit a sweetly and gently fragranced oil after their death. These relics (often but not solely the skull) are frequently kept separately in the catacombs (many examples are preserved in the Kiev Pechersky Lavra, for example, or at Mount Athos) and can be recognized as such by the dark brown character of the bone. The perfumed oil is not always emitted, but is so on a regular basis, and often across many generations. If a perfume only is emitted (such as on the occasion of the opening of a grave of a saint) it is technically called Euodia. The perfume from the phenomenon of myrobletes relics is quite unmistakeable when experienced, and is widely taken in the Orthodox Church as a sign of the great sanctity of the saint in question, and their bestowal of blessing on those who have come to venerate them in pilgrimage. Shrines of the Myrobletes saints are frequent sites of Orthodox pilgrimage, where pilgrims gather to seek the saint’s intercession and cures, for themselves or for family members. An icon can become a Myrobletes if it starts to emit perfume, oil, or tears. This phenomenon is often a temporary one. It is widely understood in Orthodoxy to mean that the sacred figure whom the icon depicts is giving a special blessing, or drawing attention to some notable thing transpiring, or delivering a warning to the faithful. The most notable of myrrh-gushing icons is perhaps the (Myroblitissa) icon of the Dormition of the Mother of God in the Malevi convent in Arcadia. Throughout the history of the Orthodox Church such things have been extensively recorded, understood as thaumata’(or signs to cause “wonderment” and spiritual reflection), and are still a regular feature of Orthodox life. The most famous of the Myrobletes saints is perhaps St. Dimitrios of Thessalonike, the Great Martyr. St. Charbal (Makhlouf), the 19th-century Maronite saint, is perhaps the most famous of the 20th-century Myrobletes, whose perfumed myron accounted for numerous cures all over the world, making his shrine in Lebanon one of the great pilgrimage sites of the Middle East in recent times. Српска bepзuja English version Подписаться на рассылку Сретенская духовная семинария Tweet Нравится Monument to King David gifted by Russian charity dismantled in Jerusalem Jerusalem, March 27, 2018 Photo: newsru.co.il      A monument to the holy King David, installed on Mt. Zion almost a decade ago by the Russian Charitable Foundation of the St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, was dismantled today. The statue had previously been vandalized several times, reports newsru.co.il . The reason for the monument’s removal is not yet clear, and no response has yet been offered by the mayor of Jerusalem. St. Nicholas Foundation director Nikolai Goryachkin stated that he was not aware of the dismantling but is very concerned about what is happening. He noted that as the monument was a gift to Israel, it does not belong to the foundation anymore, but its donors are still concerned about its future. The statue has suffered damage several times, with repairs not always being carried out very quickly. Attackers knocked off fragments of King David’s face several times, and the damage remained visible even after repairs. The monument was installed in October 2008 near the Tomb of King David, under the walls of the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos. The bronze statue was received by Israeli authorities as a gift from the Russian charitable St. Nicholas Foundation. A 120-person Russian delegation arrived for the consecration of the monument at that time. The cost of creating and installing the monument was about million. From the very beginning, the installation of the monument in the old section of the city, realistically depicting the holy King and Prophet David, was negatively received by many representatives of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community. Foundation director Nikolai Goryachkin confirmed that the monument had been installed with the full consent of the Israeli authorities and the blessing of the Russian Orthodox Church.
