Some time later, after some deviations in their route, the travellers decided to pass through that village again and without fail to visit the priest; and it so happened that they came to the village while the bells were ringing for the Liturgy on Sunday morning. The people, gathered in large numbers at the church, saw the approaching Elder and almost took him from his cart and carried him into the church. The priest, gladdened by his arrival, was serving the Proskomedia. With tears the Elder thanked the Lord for such a grace-filled change, noting that the church was full of people. The people with reverence crowded around the Elder to receive his blessing, and the priest, having celebrated the Divine Liturgy, and embracing the Elder, indicated to him their mutual joy and told those who stood nearby that such a great gathering of people was the fruit of Fr. Nazarius’ prayers. The church could no longer hold the multitude of people, who filled even the church steps. Having spent some time in that village, Fr. Nazarius begged both the pastor and his flock to continue and grow from this good beginning, devoutly fulfilling their obligations. Then Fr. Nazarius made ready to depart. He was accompanied with tears by the priest with all his parishioners, who had gathered to bid farewell to their Elder, Father, and benefactor (for so they began to call him). They accompanied him for several miles from the village, and the priest remained in correspondence with Fr. Nazarius and to his very death took advantage of his counsels. 7 марта 2017 г. Something my great-grandfather did out of necessity, I hope to do by choice. He left his country to find new opportunities in another country; I hope to leave mine to represent it abroad. My goal is to be a Foreign Service Officer — a diplomat representing the United States. For my great-grandfather, life in the United States meant economic security, freedom and safety from the sectarian clashes of the old world. For me, the modern American life makes it difficult to build something enduring while racing from job-to-job and city-to-city searching for that elusive promise of economic security. The two pictures that I’ve seen of my great-grandfather are of an austere, well-mustachioed young man about my age and another from the late 1950s, as a wrinkly, smiling and proudly toothless old man bouncing my father on his lap. At the very least, it’s comforting to know that the life of an immigrant-soldier-autoworker can lead to happiness — which, when I’m feeling cynical, I think is restricted to those getting the “starting street” salary in their first year out of the Business School. I’ve never been to Lebanon. The country of my ancestors (for full disclosure, half of them) is still wracked by violence and plagued by a weak government. A century after my great-grandfather left Lebanon, the Maronites and Muslims have flipped demographics, but it’s still a very divided country with an unfortunate penchant for never-ending retaliatory rocket attacks. Eventually, maybe, I’ll get there. For now, it seems about as distant as America must have seemed to my great-grandfather. 3 октября 2013 г. ... Archive Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea visits the Monastery of the Holy Trinity 26 May 2021 year 17:45 On May 23, 2021, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Mr. Park Byeong-seug visited the St. Sergius Laura of the Holy Trinity. The high guest was accompanied by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Russian Federation Mr. Mr Lee Sok-bae, the speaker’s wife Ms. Han Myung-hui and elected members of the National Assembly. The guests were welcomed to the Trinity monastery by the Patriarchal Exarch for South-East Asia, Metropolitan Sergiy of Singapore and South-East Asia, and the father superior of the Laura of the Holy Trinity, Bishop Thomas of Sergiev-Posad and Dmitrov. They were joined by L. Slutsky, State Duma member; D. Petrovsky, secretary for inter-Orthodox relations of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations; Archimandrite Jeremias (Solovyov), a novice of the Laura; Hegumen Varnava (Fyodorov), assistant to the dean of the St. Sergius Laura of the Trinity; and Hierodeacon Polikarp (Tibanov), head of the Pilgrimage Center of the St. Sergius Laura of the Trinity. In his welcoming speech Bishop Thomas said, “The Laura is not just the largest acting monastery, but also Russia’s spiritual center, the heart of Russian Orthodoxy. We hope that a little part of your heart will remain in our holy monastery. “As His Holiness Patriarch Kirill noted, thanks to the help given by Korean Christians at the hard time of the economic crisis of the 90s, a printing house was created in the St. Sergius Laura of the Holy Trinity, which made us independent from the state in publishing religious literature. On many occasions, the Laura’s pilgrimage center took part in exhibitions in Seoul to present booklets about the monastery printed in the Thai language in this very printing house. “Through the intercession of St. Sergius, may our good relations develop for the good of both our two countries”. Hierodeacon Polikarp organized for the guests a tour of the monastery and its main churches - the Refectory Church, the Church of the Trinity and the Church of the Dormition and showed them the Laura’s sacristy museum, in which they were guided by Ms. S. Nikolayeva, deputy general director of the Sergiev Posad preserve museum. The guests were moved by the generous welcome, expressing a wish to visit the St. Sergius Monastery once again in the future. Earlier, on May 22, a meeting took place at the Church of Christ the Saviour in Moscow between His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, and the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Park Byeong-seug. When I read during the early 1980s in samizdat Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future and Signs of the End Times, I was stunned by his ability to connect and place into Christian context the scattered and multi-faceted phenomena of modern times. This permitted the Glinsk Hermitage to function for a short time – from 1942 to 1961, when it was once again shut down – as a manifestation of unusual spiritual strength, at whose center were the elders © 1999-2016 Православие.Ru

Interesting note: in American Orthodoxy, we use the Menaia published by Sophia Press, a Byzantine Catholic publisher (we surmise because the Orthodox either cannot or will not spend monies to publish these readings)! Their bias is all too clear inserted into the Vesper and Matins Irmoi: the two brothers corrected the error of the Moslems (!!) - nowhere mentioned is the problem with the " german " Latin Bishops who imprisoned and tortured St Methodios! We celebrate the two Sts Kyril and Methodios as our patrons in our own outreach to those in the Latin-western errors who live among us and name the name of the Lord Jesus Christ while knowing so little about Him! In Christ Jesus, in the glory of His sending of the All-Holy Spirit at Pentecost!! Tweet Are you Christian? Forget about doing Yoga! The Church would like people to replace Yoga with Prayer June 17, 2015      The Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church reacted to the UN’s decision to designate June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014. The Holy Synod’s statement says that the practice of yoga has “no place in the lives of Christians” since it is a fundamental aspect of Hinduism and as such is not considered a “form of exercise” but of worship! Though praised for its calming effect and wellness, Christians are urged to seek the same comfort in God – not hindu practises. After all, the postures of yoga were created as adulation to 330 million Hindu gods. The postures are viewed in the Hindu faith as offerings to gods that in Christianity are considered to be idols. Furthermore, a third of yoga is concerned with emptying the mind – a contradiction to what Christianity teaches. In the Christian faith, there is free choice and transformation through renewal. Furthermore, astral travel that yoga guides people into is a practise that the church continues to frown upon. “For this reason, yoga is totally incompatible with our Christian Orthodox faith and it has no place in the life of Christians,” the statement said, even though it added that the the Church respects religious freedom. What is the point here? Is it concern for ritual convention or is it a genuine relationship with God? From the point of view of some people (not only atheists but also some educated Christians), this is the irrational zeal of the semi-literate, not understanding the true values behind human life. For others, this is the podvig of true Christians, not denying Christ or their Faith even under torture. Because the question here, or course, is not about meat. I would not be too dramatic about the situation with uncatechized people. Of course, thank God, much is being done, including by our monastery, by our publishing department, to instruct people in the Faith. And this is essential. But if you only knew how many people I have met who are uneducated in religious concepts, who have not taken dilettantish catechetical classes, but sincerely love God, know Him, and are faithful to Him! It is such people that God seeks. - Father Tikhon, some priests are saying that the hurricane and the financial crisis in America are divine punishment for its actions against Russia. This topic is being discussed so keenly that I can’t help asking you the question: Is it really divine punishment? - To be truthful, I am more interested in whether we are pondering over the causes of our own crises and disasters.
