Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk and Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Central Asia meet with President of Tajikistan May 18, 2012 On May 17, 2012, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, arrived in the capital of Tajikistan with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. On May 18, he and Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Central Asia met with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rakhmon. Present at the meeting were Abdurakhim Kholikov, chairman of the Tajikistan State Committee for Religious Affairs, Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Yu. Popov and Erkin Rakhmatullaev, chief advisor to the President of Tajikistan. During his talk with the head of the Tajik State, Metropolitan Hilarion conveyed him greetings from the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church and said that he experienced a sincere joy over his visit to the republic. The DECR chairman noted that Tajikistan was actively reviving after a prolonged civil confrontation. Metropolitan Hilarion informed the President of Tajikistan about the aims of establishing a metropolia of the Russian Orthodox Church in Central Asia. It is established, he said, ‘because of the need to increase pastoral care for the Russian-speaking population in Central Asia states and because of the great importance that the Supreme Authority of our Church attaches to the development of church life in this region’. Mr. Emamoli Rakhmon, in his turn, underscored that the Russian Orthodox Church, being the second largest community in Tajikistan after the titular religion, has proved to be a true peacemaker and tireless preacher of humanism and tolerance. In the course of the meeting, which lasted over an hour and was held in a sincere and warm atmosphere, they discussed a broad range of issues concerning the situation of the Russian-speaking minority in Tajikistan, interreligious dialogue and cooperation and the need for people of traditional religions to oppose together extremism and radicalism. Michael Prokurat, Alexander Golitzin, Michael D. Peterson Скачать epub pdf HISTORIANS, ECCLESIASTICAL HISTORIANS, ECCLESIASTICAL. The first ecclesiastical historian whose works survive complete is Eusebius of Caesarea (q.v.). His History of the Church covered the first three centuries of Christianity and is still an invaluable resource. He incorporated into it other works, now lost, such as those of the 2nd-c. church historian Hegesippus, who wrote on Jerusalem and Rome, and probably gave us the list of early Roman popes found in Epiphanius (Haer. 27.6). Subsequent Church historians writing in Greek included: Socrates (d. 439) and Sozomen (d. ca. 450), who carried Eusebius’s story through the Trinitarian controversies of the 4th c.; Theodoret of Cyrrhus (q.v.), who continued into the Christological debates through Chalcedon (q.v.); Zachariah the Rhetor (d. ca. 550), who took the latter controversies through the mid-6th c. from the monophysite side; and Evagrius Scholasticus (d. 593/4), who represented the Chalcedonian side through to the century’s end. Lesser writers include Philostorgius (d. 395) and Gelasius of Caesarea (d. 425) from the Greek side and Joh n of Ephesus (d. 586), who wrote in Syriac (q.v.). Among the Latins, Lactantius (d. 330s) contributed an impressive history of the African Church’s persecutions under the Emperor Diocletian, while Rufinus of Aquileia (d. ca. 410) wrote perhaps the most impressive Church history by a Western writer until the Venerable Bede (d. 735) produced his remarkable History of the English Church. Augustine of Hippo’s (q.v.) City of God, while not a history per se, is nonetheless worth mentioning as the unique theology of history in the patristic age. Finally, Jerome compiled a bibliography of ecclesiastical writers and translated and updated Eusebius’s Chronicle, which is a summary of universal history with dates. Church history continued to be written throughout the Byzantine era (q.v.). But since Church and state (q.v.) came to be practically identified during Byzantium’s medieval period, the histories produced are as much histories of the Empire as of the Christian Church. Examples are the works of Michael Psellos (11th c.) and Anna Comnena (12th c.). Читать далее Источник: The A to Z of the Orthodox Church/Michael Prokurat, Alexander Golitzin, Michael D. Russian Gov " t Proposed to Bury Alleged Remains of Sts. Alexis and Maria Romanov/Православие.Ru Russian Gov " t Proposed to Bury Alleged Remains of Sts. Alexis and Maria Romanov September 11, 2015 Sts. Alexei and Maria Romanov      The Russian government recently offered to bury the alleged remains of Sts. Alexei and Maria Romanov, the Crown Prince and Grand Duchess of the last royal family of Russia. The remains are currently housed at the Russian State Archives, but could be buried on October 18 in Catherine’s aisle of the Peter and Paul Cathedral at the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg, reports Interfax . Members of the Romanov family have been invited to the ceremony. In July 1991 a grave with nine bodies was found near Ekaterinburg, with the remains being identified as the Tsar-Martyr Nicholas II and the Tsaritsa Alexandra, along with their children, the Grand Duchesses Olga, Tatiana, and Anastasia, and their servants Evgeny Botkin, Anna Demidova, Alexey Trupp, and Ivan Kharitonov. Two more remains were discovered in a grave seventy kilometers south on July 26, 2007 which many analysts believe to be the remains of Sts. Alexei and Maria. The Russian Orthodox Church has not recognized the remains in the Peter and Paul Cathedral as those of Tsar Nicholas and his family, nor has it accepted the identification of the newer remains with Sts. Alexei and Maria. The Russian Investigative Committee, the Forensic Medical Center of the Russian Health Ministry, and the Vavilov Genetics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences are prepared to offer additional research at the request of the Russian Orthodox Church. The Church has remained cautious about the identification of the remains, as the true remains of Tsar Nicholas and his family would constitute holy relics to be venerated, as the entire family has been canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church. 14 сентября 2015 г. Michael Prokurat, Alexander Golitzin, Michael D. Peterson Скачать epub pdf ECCLESIOLOGY ECCLESIOLOGY. The word means the study or rationale of the Church. Never rigorously discussed in its own right in the earlier centuries, the Church emerged a theological subject of first importance only in the 20th c. and as a result of the ecumenical movement (q.v.). Orthodox theologians in this century, following and attempting to articulate the hints present in the New Testament and Church Fathers (q.v.), have sought to define the Church fundamentally as sacrament, i.e., as the presence in this world and communication of the Kingdom of God, the body of the risen Christ animated by the Holy Spirit (q.v.). In particular Russian theologians such as Nikolai Afanasiev, Georges Florovsky, Joh n Meyendorff, and Alexander Schmemann, together with Greeks such as Joh n Zizioulas and the Romanian Dumitru Staniloae (qq.v.), have advanced an ecclesiology based on the Eucharist (q.v.) as central-to the other sacraments (q.v.) and the Church’s historical self-understanding, e.g., the evolution of the three sacred orders (sacramental ministers). The contribution of these men has been admired by and influenced other Christians, notably Roman Catholics; but they have raised the legitimate question that Eucharistic ecclesiology does not address the political reality of the universal Church, i.e., the Christian Church is a worldwide society whose unity requires an officer charged with the responsibility for the whole. They see this office in the “petrine ministry” exercised by the papacy (q.v.). The question of primacy is perhaps the burning issue facing the Orthodox Church as it approaches the 21st c. The old relations between Church and state (q.v.) that obtained in the Christian East up until the opening of the 20th c., wherein the Church’s unity was in great part the responsibility of the Christian state, now no longer apply. Recent initiatives on the part of the Ecumenical Patriarch (q.v.) allow some hope that contemporary Orthodoxy is moving toward a possible resolution of the question. Bishop Markell: " Moldavian authorities under pressure from EU that tries to undermine the position of the Church " Kishinev, September 3, 2013 Bishop Markell of Beltsy and Falesht has spoken with harsh criticism of the authorities of Moldavia, accusing them of antinational policy. " After 2009, when parties, financially and politically supported by the European Union, came into power, there have been insistent attempts by the state authorities to change the Moldavian people’s way of life, especially regarding their attitude to the Church, " writes the Bishop in his article published on Interfax-Religion website on Tuesday. The Bishop noted that the state, under the insistent pressure from the EU, wishes to undermine the authority of the Church, to depreciate its historical role in eyes of the people, and to minimize its influence in society, limiting its functions in every possible way. " The rhetoric of the Moldavian bureaucrats, who are not supported or trusted by the population at all, is directed utterly against the Orthodox Church, the institution trusted by the overwhelming majority of Moldavian citizens. Isn " t it strange? Doesn " t it indicate that they are waging a war against their own people? " asking the author. According to him, on the legislative, administrative-executive levels and on the level of everyday life, " The most impertinent and pernicious experiment is being carried out with the people: to eradicate the image of the Church of Christ from its historical memory and to transform the spiritual and moral foundation of the Moldavian ethnos, based on Christian values, confessed throughout the centuries, to the level of brute, ‘animal’ instincts and vices " . The hierarch mentioned " the authorities’ pushing of an extremist version of Islam " in the registration of the League of Islam and the " shameful adoption by the parliament of the scandalous law " On equality of chances " that gives the sexual minorities unprecedented rights to propaganda of perversions and corruption in the upcoming generation " . Besides, as Bishop Markell stated, under pressure from the non-governmental organizations sponsored by the West, the Orthodox Church, to which, according to his information, 94% of the population of the republic belong, now shares equal rights with other religious organizations, " including destructive and totalitarian ones " . " Any unwillingness to base society on Western values, any open expression of sympathy with Russia, Russian language and culture, or any willingness to establish closer relations with the Eurasian Union are interpreted by the authorities as an attempt to prevent the process of the country " s European integration. The administration is pursuing a dirty anti-Russian policy and is persecuting (specifically persecuting) dissenters, " write Bishop Markell in the article. Pravoslavie.ru 5 сентября 2013 г. ... Metropolitan Nicholas of Fthiotida on immigrants: “When the flame blazes up, it will be too late” Fthiotida, March 24, 2015 In his interview with the Paraskinio Greek newspaper Metropolitan Nicholas of Fthiotida has commented on the relations established between the Greek government and the Orthodox Church and has noted that uncontrolled immigration poses a threat to Greece, reports AgionOros.ru .      Answering the question, “have the relationships between the Church and the state changed since formation of the new Greek government?” Metropolitan Nicholas said the following: “Despite what they said during the election campaign and the position declared by the Syriza ruling party, the relationships between the Church and the state have not worsened. We are collaborating with this government no less than with the previous one. It is obviously explained by the fact that the Independent Greeks party is a part of the governing coalition, and it declares its opposition to the separation of the Church and state”. Metropolitan Nicholas has stressed that “today the Church representatives are waiting. They do not believe that radicals in the government will accept the status quo. I want to emphasize that the process of separation of Church and state started many years ago and is being realized cautiously and step by step, with the Church’s consent on many issues”. In conclusion, the hierarch touched upon the problem of uncontrolled immigration: “I am seriously concerned about the superficial and irresponsible attitude of Greek society towards the incursion of immigrants into our country. When the flame blazes up, it will be already too late to respond. The pseudo-intelligentsia is lulling our vigilance with “the anti-racist lure”, but we will wake up when the fire of catastrophe breaks out around us. Who could think that in the 21st century Christians would be persecuted by Muslim extremists and their suffering and torments would be like those of the first Christians?” the Metropolitan said. 26 марта 2015 г. Primate of Russian Church celebrates Liturgy at Novodevichy Convent in Moscow and leads consecration of Archimandrite Antony (Sevryuk) as Bishop of Bogorodsk on the feast day of Iveron Icon of the Mother of God Source: DECR Communication Service October 26, 2015      On 26 October 2015, the feast day of the Iveron Icon of the Mother God, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia visited the Novodevichy Convent in Moscow. The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God. Concelebrating with His Holiness was an assembly of archpastors and pastors of the Russian Church. The wonderworking Iveron Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, which was brought to Russia from Mt Athos in 1648, is kept at the convent’s Church of the Dormition. When in the Soviet times the convent was closed, the icon became a part of the collection of the State Historical Museum. On 6 May 2012, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, returned the icon to the Russian Orthodox Church. During the Liturgy, Archimandrite Antony (Sevryuk) was consecrated as Bishop of Bogorodsk, a vicar of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.      After the Litany of Fervent Supplication, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church offered up a prayer for peace in Ukraine. After the Liturgy, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill said a thanksgiving before the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God and addressed the worshippers with a Primatial homily, saying in particular: “I cordially greet all of you with a feast of particular importance for the city of Moscow and the whole Russian Orthodox Church. Today we have offered up fervent prayers before the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, the protectress of our capital.” The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church congratulated Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna on his 80th birthday and wished him many years of life and spiritual and physical strength to celebrate the Divine Services and perform his ministry entrusted to him by the Church. Later that day His Holiness Patriarch Kirill visited the Church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist, which is being reconstructed near the eastern wall of the Novodevichy Convent. 30 октября 2015 г. Archive In Ukrainian Polesye one more church building of the canonical Church is seized with assistance of local officials 15 March 2019 year 10:35 On March 13, 2019, in Selets village, Dubrovitsa district, Rovno region, Ukraine, the OCU supporters cut locks off the doors of the Church of St. Nicholas of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Although the religious community has all the documents confirming its property right to the building and the land, people were turned out of the church. The vandals, who by their actions desecrated the church, immediately fastened their own locks, not letting the parishioners in and intimidating the rector, Archpriest Nikolai Ivanichko. As the Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports, citing the Press Service of the diocese, these are not the first unlawful actions committed against the property of the canonical Church’s parishes, in which the local officials are involved. On March 12, clergymen and laypeople of the Dubrovitsa deanery, Polesye diocese, Ukrainian Orthodox Church, gathered for a prayerful vigil at the district state administration of the city of Dubrovitsa, Rovno region, and expressed their protest against the violation of their constitutional right to the freedom of religion. An unprecedented pressure is being exerted on them to give effect to the forced “transfer” of parishes to the newly-created schismatic structure called “the Orthodox church of Ukraine.” Despite the pressure, the Orthodox Christians in the Polesye region remain faithful to their Church and its Primate. So, there was nothing left do for the authorities but to illegally take away their places of worship. For instance, through personal efforts of the head of the local district state administration, N.M. Petrushko, three churches in Dubrovitsa deanery were closed. As spokespersons of the diocese note, the local authorities “incite religious enmity in the region and turn a deaf ear to all the appeals of the Orthodox faithful.” DECR Communication Service /Patriarchia.ru Календарь ← 7 April 2024 year

The Church calls upon the authorities not to discriminate against those who refuse to accept electronic documents Moscow, March 24, 2015 Thousands of citizens of Russia, the Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and other countries are sending appeals addressed to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for Relations between the Church and Society, reports Patriarchia.ru. The letters express their concern about use of electronic documents and innovative technology in interaction between citizens and the authority, which leaves no alternative. The Church is talking about these issues with government agencies, urging them to take into account and understand the position of the faithful, calling upon them to respect the voluntary nature of identity provision and to give people the opportunity to opt for traditional methods of identification. The Church representatives have stated that respect must be shown for citizens’ constitutional rights and that those who refuse to accept electronic methods of identification must not be discriminated against. In many cases the state authorities heed the words of the Church and the citizens, taking specific steps aimed at ensuring of the equality of rights and respect for religious convictions of believers. Thus, in November 2014 a citizen of the Chelyabinsk region A. V. Kurilova made an appeal to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia with the request to help her obtain free medicine for her little son without registration of Insurance Number of Individual Ledger Account. This document was forwarded to the Department for Relations between the Church and Society for execution. A petition, signed by the Department’s chairman, was sent in to the governor of the Chelyabinsk region B. A. Dubrovsky with the request to assist in obtaining the medicinal product. At the end of February the Department for Relations between the Church and Society received a response from the first deputy governor of the stating that the boy will be provided with the drug preparation until the end of 2015”. 30 марта 2015 г.
