Михаил Аксенов-Меерсон От автора Это книга о русской религиозной мысли нового времени, теме давнего интереса автора, который познакомился с этим уникальным и не вполне еще исследованным феноменом в давние советские времена, в середине 60-х годов, когда прочел по-английски книгу Николая Зернова «Русское религиозное возрождение XX века», и потом в сотрудничестве с тогда еще молодыми друзьями и единомышленниками (Сергеем Хоружим, Мариной Бессоновой, Евгением Барабановым и др.) перевел ее на русский язык и даже библиографически дополнил для русского издания. 1 Русская религиозная философия XX века была тогда запретным и забытым плодом: запретным в Советском Союзе, незамеченным в целом русской эмиграцией, мало известным на Западе. Выросла эта книга из моей докторской диссертации, защищенной в 1996-ом году в католическом Фордамском университете в Нью-Йорке. В диссертации я проследил зависимость нового западного богословия троичности от русской религиозной философии и богословия, с одной стороны, и связь самой русской религиозной мысли с западной средневековой традицией умозрительной мистики – с другой. На базе этой диссертации возникло две книги. One of those projects is the Patriarch Tikhon Russian-American Music Institute (PaTRAM) which is dedicated to promoting high-quality Church singing, through private instructions and also through Master Classes throughout America. September 2 —6 the institute offered its first Master Class in Russia, at the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra Podvoriye in Moscow, where Institute co-founder Maestro Vladimir Gorbik, of whom Benedict spoke, is choirmaster. Singers from America, Canada, and Russia came together for an intensive workshop in Slavonic choral music, as well as several pilgrimage-outings, under the direction of Maestro Gorbik. We spoke with Isaac Crabtree of St. John Chrysostom Orthodox Church in House Springs, MO, one of the thirty-five participants in the Master Class, about the experience. His thoughts and reflections are a testament to the work of PaTRAM and give us insight into the depth of the Orthodox choral tradition, and what can be accomplished both technically and spiritually when we give our best effort and our first fruits to the Lord. —Give us a run-down of the daily schedule of the conference. —This was a four-day Master Class, Wednesday—Saturday, that also included several planned excursions to holy places. Our final practice was on Saturday afternoon and we sang the Vigil at the Podvoriye Saturday evening, and the Divine Liturgy on Sunday. Each day was scheduled differently, but all were a combination of rehearsals or divine services and either planned or informal excursions. |

The relic is being brought to mark the 100th anniversary of the tragic events surrounding the 1917 Russian revolution which eventually led to St. Elizabeth’s martyrdom, and that of millions more, including the Royal Family. The sacred relic will remain at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the St. Alexander Nevsky Lavra from May 5 to 9, and at the Cathedral of the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God in memory of the 300th anniversary of the House of Romanov from May 9 to 11. St. Elizabeth’s hand will be ceremoniously met on May 5 at 12:30 at the St. Alexander Nevsky Lavra. A Moleben will be served before the relic, sung by the diocesan youth choir, after which all desiring to may venerate the relic. The reliquary is being brought to St. Petersburg with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of New York and Eastern America (ROCOR), and Metropolitan Barsanuphios of St. Petersburg and Ladoga.
