Tweet Нравится Archbishop Mark and Protopriest Alexander Lebedeff Participate in the Fourth Meeting of the Inter-Council Presence of the Russian Orthodox Church December 27, 2011 On Decemer 26, 2011, the fourth meeting of the Inter-Council Presence of the Russian Orthodox Church convened at the Trapezny Chambers of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow, chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church opened the meeting by reading the agenda and outline of the main achievements of the Inter-Council Presence in 2011. His Holiness recalled that the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church held in February 2011 confirmed seven projects proposed by the committees of the Inter-Council Presence. From March to December of this year the committees drew up no fewer than 16 plans. Some of them were subject to examination by a review committee and were publicly discussed throughout the Church at large. Some drafts were already approved by the Holy Synod, and some are subject to review when it meets on December 27-28. The Primate of the Russian Church especially emphasized documents on youth, missionary work, catechistic activity, as well as social aid programs already approved by the Council of Bishops. “Parallel with the basic documents prepared by the Inter-Council Presence, Synodal departments prepared additional programs (for instance, standard labor regulations). We can now say that there is a theoretical basis for the development of the four aforementioned directions in the work of the Church,” said His Holiness. His Holiness also mentioned that the forthcoming Synod will review “Regulations on Ecclesiastical Approval for the Work of Orthodox Social Organizations.” Another document prepared by the Inter-Council Presence was “On the Coordination of Activity on Strengthening Church Unity and the Prevention of Schism,” which was already approved by the review committee and passed on to the Supreme Ecclesiastical Council.

Appeal of the Supreme Church Council of the Russian Orthodox Church Moscow, April 4, 2012 Appeal of the Supreme Church Council of the Russian Orthodox Church The Appeal was adopted as a result of the meeting of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Supreme Church Council held at the Church of Christ the Saviour on 3 April 2012. The Russian Orthodox Church, while fulfilling her mission of preaching the Gospel, demonstrates an active position on many burning issues and actively participates in the solution of many topical social problems. The help to the thousands of people during fires of 2010, fund raising and collections of material goods for disadvantaged categories of citizens, various kinds of work with children and the youth, and the coming of many thousands of people to venerate the Cincture of the Most Holy Mother of God, have shown the ability of the Church to unite millions of people in prayer, good deeds, and concern for people’s future. Regrettably, not all people rejoice and accept all this. The antichurch forces fear the strengthening of Orthodoxy in the country; they are frightened of the revival of national self-conscience and mass popular initiative. These people are not many, but some of them have influence and are willing to use their financial, informational and administrative resources for discrediting hierarchs and clerics, for engendering discord and alienating people from the church. Joining these forces are those who promote false values of aggressive liberalism, since the Church has an unyielding position of non-acceptance of such anti-Christian phenomena as the recognition of the same-sex marriages, freedom of expression of all desires, unrestrained consumption, and the propagation of permissiveness and fornication. Moreover, the attacks on the Church are profitable to those whose commercial interests are infringed by the programme of building new churches in the densely populated districts of Moscow and of other large cities. The confrontation between the Church and the anti-Christian forces becomes even more obvious and acute. The attacks were particularly noticeable in the pre-election and post-election periods, showing their political hidden motive, including an anti-Russian one. Various means are employed, and a planned campaign of systematic defamation is launched. Clergymen are involved in provocations; archpastors and priests are in the focus of close attention of the discontented who are seeking the slightest pretext to distort everything and to supply dirty arguments for information.

Thus, a Council is needed; and first of all we need to ask the governmental authorities to allow us to call a Council. However, someone needs to gather the Council, make the necessary preparations—in a word, lead the Church up to a Council. Therefore, right now, before the Council, an ecclesiastical body is needed. I have a series of requirements for the organization and the activity of this body which, I think, are common to everyone who wants good ecclesiastical order rather than disturbance of peace or some new confusion. I will point out a few of these requirements. 1. A temporary ecclesiastical body should not be essentially self-willed; that is, it should have the agreement of the Locum Tenens from the start. 2. As much as possible, the temporary ecclesiastical body should include those who have been delegated by the Locum Tenens, Metropolitan Peter (Polyansky) or the Holy Patriarch. 3. The temporary ecclesiastical body should unite and not separate the episcopate. It is not a judge, and not a punisher of dissenters—that is what the Council will be. 4. The temporary ecclesiastical body should see its task as modest and practical: the creation of a Council. The last two points require particular explanation. The repulsive ghost of the 1922 VTsU (Supreme ChurchAdministration) still hovers over the hierarchy and ecclesiastical personages. Church people have become suspicious. The temporary ecclesiastical body should fear like fire the least resemblance in activity to the criminal activity of the VTsU. Otherwise, there will only be new confusion. The VTsU was begun with lies and deceit. Everything should be founded upon the truth. The VTsU, an entirely self-appointed body, proclaimed itself as the supreme master of the destiny of the Russian Church—a master to whom ecclesiastical laws, and even common Divine and human laws, do not necessarily apply. Our ecclesiastical body will only be temporary, with the sole task of calling a Council. The VTsU persecuted all who would not submit to it—that is, all decent hierarchs and other ecclesiastical workers. Threatening punishments left and right, and promising mercy to the submissive, the VTsU evoked the censure of the government—censure that the government itself hardly found desirable. This repugnant side of the criminal activities of the VTsU and its successor, the socalled “Synod,” with its councils of 1923–1925, earned them deserved contempt, caused great woe and suffering for innocent people, brought only evil, and had only the result that a part of the hierarchy and some irresponsible Church people left the Church and formed schismatic groups. Nothing of the kind, not even the slightest hint, should be present in the activities of the temporary ecclesiastical body. I emphasize this thought especially, because I see a very great danger in precisely this. Our ecclesiastical body should convoke a Council. With respect to this Council, the following requirements are necessary.

Archive Пн Patriarch Kirill presides over a regular session of the Supreme Church Council 13 June 2018 year 13:22 On June 13, 2018, His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, presided over a session of the Supreme Church Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, at the Supreme Church Councils hall of the Cathedral Church of Christ the Saviour.  Opening the session, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church addressed himself to the participants in the meeting with remarks on the agenda and the forthcoming World Football Championship in Russia: ‘We are gathering together on the eve of a major event for our country – the World Football Championship. Many people will come from various countries of the world, and, as it happened in the situations when major international events are held in our country, many will visit Orthodox churches. For this reason, I would ask that we all should be ready to offer hospitality at the church platforms to those who will turn to us, who will ask questions and show interest in church life. In the first place, it is the duty of hospitality, but in addition it is our pastoral duty to answer questions from those to address them to us. I hope this major event will be a success and make a positive impact on the feelings of our people. Certainly, to a great extent it will depend on the performance of our football team. It remains only to pray that everything may right and proper and, of course, to hope for the good precondition of our sportsmen’. After the introductory remarks of Patriarch Kirill, Archpriest Maxim Kozlov, deputy head of the Education Committee, made a report on ‘Reforming the Theological Education System: Rising the Level of the Educational Process’. The Church Council saw video-reports from inter-disciplinary examinations held in theological seminaries in St. Petersburg, Ryazan and Vologda as examples of distance control over graduation examinations and defenses of graduation papers. An Education Committee member, being in chart, has an opportunity, if needs be, to ask questions in the capacity of the examination commission member who takes part in evaluating the level of graduate’s knowledge and papers.

Tweet Sunday of the Fathers of the First Six Councils The Sunday between July 13/26 and July 19/August 1 First Ecumenical Council In the Ninth Article of the Nicea-Constantinople Symbol of Faith proclaimed by the holy Fathers of the First and Second Ecumenical Councils, we confess our faith in " One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. " By virtue of the catholic nature of the Church, an Ecumenical Council is the Church " s supreme authority, and possesses the competence to resolve major questions of church life. An Ecumenical Council is comprised of archpastors and pastors of the Church, and representatives of all the local Churches, from every land of the " oikumene " (i.e. from all the whole inhabited world). The Orthodox Church acknowledges Seven Holy Ecumenical Councils: The First Ecumenical Council (Nicea I) (May 29, and also on seventh Sunday after Pascha) was convened in the year 325 against the heresy of Arius, in the city of Nicea in Bithynia under StConstantine the Great, Equal of the Apostles. The Second Ecumenical Council (Constantinople I) (May 22) was convened in the year 381 against the heresy of Macedonias, by the emperor Theodosius the Great. The Third Ecumenical Council (Ephesus) (September 9) was convened in the year 431 against the heresy of Nestorius, in the city of Ephesus by the emperor Theodosius the Younger. The Fourth Ecumenical Council (Chalcedon) (July 16) was convened in the year 451, against the Monophysite heresy, in the city of Chalcedon under the emperor Marcian. The Fifth Ecumenical Council (Constnatinople II) (July 25) " Concerning the Three Chapters, " was convened in the year 553, under the emperor Justinian the Great. The Sixth Ecumenical Council (Constantinople III) (January 23) met during the years 680-681, to fight the Monothelite heresy, under the emperor Constantine Pogonatos. The fact that the Seventh Ecumenical Council (Nicea II) is not commemorated today testifies to the antiquity of today " s celebration. The Seventh Council, commemorated on the Sunday nearest to October 11, was convened at Nicea in the year 787 against the Iconoclast heresy, under the emperor Constantine and his mother Irene.
