Orthodox Church Destruction Fought in Morocco June 8, 2012 The Russian Orthodox Church is fighting the demolition of a church in Casablanca after a defrocked priest illegally sold it to a local developer, church officials say. The Dormition Church of the Mother of God sits on valuable land in the city " s downtown. Built by Russian emigres in 1958, it is one of only two Russian Orthodox churches in Morocco. The Dormition officially belonged to a Moroccan parish linked to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, an international synod based in New York. Sometime between late December and early January, the defrocked priest secretly sold the church to a Moroccan real estate firm using false documents, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia reported Friday. That former priest, French citizen Nikolai Semenoff, then hired local workers to enter the church and prepare it for demolition, the rector of the Resurrection Church in Rabat, Morocco, said in comments carried by the Orthodox organization " s website. " On Feb. 1, 2012, the church, recently renovated through the efforts of local parishioners, was entered by laborers who destroyed the valuable iconostasis, tore the old icons off the walls and tried to extract the holy items from the church to an unknown destination, but were stopped by the tenant of the parish property, " Priest Maksim Massalitine said. Police detained Semenoff at a Casablanca airport later that month. An investigation into the church " s sale is under way. Semenoff is prohibited from leaving the country during the inquiry. On April 16, the real estate firm sent an eviction notice to the building " s tenant, La Fondation Marocaine pour la Jeunesse, l " Initiative et le Developpement. The notice asked the tenant to vacate the building within three months so that it could be demolished. The Moscow Patriarchate has asked the Russian Embassy in Morocco to prevent the demolition. " We are attempting in every way possible to oppose the demolition of the church, " archbishop Mark of Yegoryevsk, head of the Patriarchate " s department for institutions abroad, said Wednesday, Itar-Tass reported. More than a hundred Russian Orthodox faithful who have relocated from Morocco to the United States have signed a petition to the Moroccan government to forbid the demolition, Itar-Tass reported. On Monday, several dozen worshipers joined by Christians and Muslims protested outside the church, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia reported. There is now a 24-hour-a-day vigil surrounding the church. The Moscow Times 8 июня 2012 г. ... Комментарии Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку

Archive Bishop Victor of Baryshev: Patriarch Bartholomew has never condemned the violence toward the Ukrainian Orthodox Church 12 August 2021 year 18:09 Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople has never publicly condemned the acts of violence, slander and malice aimed at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by representatives of ‘OCU’, underscored Bishop Anthony of Baryshev, head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Representation to European international organizations, in his interview to news-politics.com. It is not that the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church are against the visit of Patriarch Bartholomew for no particular reason but because it will bring suffering to millions of Orthodox Ukrainians, he noted. “Concerns have been repeatedly expressed that after the arrival of the Patriarch of Constantinople, a shift in the political vector will take place together with a return to the course that the previous government of the country followed until 2019”, the archpastor said. “This means that the number of raider seizures of our churches may considerably increase while the level of violence towards the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will grow as well”. According to Bishop Victor, the arrival of Patriarch Bartholomew in Ukraine will be taken by the nationalist radical forces as a call to action, and the Primate of the Church of Constantinople cannot fail to understand it. “If he speaks of love for all Ukrainians, then he should refrain from the planned visit”, His Eminence stressed. “On the other hand, the head of the Patriarchate of Constantinople […] could publicly condemn the acts of violence against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and call on his spiritual children from the ‘OCU’ to stop the vicious practice of seizing churches, beating up the Ukrainian Orthodox Church faithful. He could halt the purposeful flow of insults, slander and malice directed at our Church – but he never did this”, Bishop Victor stated. Therefore, the hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church stressed, the arrival of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople cannot evoke approval from millions of the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. “Nevertheless, we hope that having carefully studied the real, rather than the virtual situation in Ukraine, the head of the Church of Constantinople will make a wise decision so as not to exacerbate the existing problems in the religious life of our country”, Bishop Victor of Baryshev resumed. UOC asks Constantinople not to interfere in church affairs in Ukraine Moscow, August 13, 2015 The Ukrainian Orthodox Church criticizes officials of the Constantinople Patriarchate for interfering in church affairs in Ukraine. " Unfortunately, we see that hierarchs of the Constantinople Patriarchate, who have recently visited Ukraine and communicated with representatives of state authorities and representatives of unrecognized church structures, in fact ignore the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, " UOC chancellor Metropolitan Antony of Borispol and Brovary said in his interview posted on Thursday at the UOC website. He points out that the UOC is the major confession in Ukraine. As to the number of communities, this Church is one of the most numerous in the world. " So, we believe that our Church should be compulsory included in all possible negotiations on overcoming church schisms in Ukraine, " the metropolitan stressed. Thus, he commented on the recent visit to Ukraine carried out by the two Constantinople officials, when one of them backed up the idea to set up a local Orthodox Church in the country. Metropolitan Antony reminds that, according to the church canons, bishops of a local church can officially visit the territory of the other church only when it is approved by the church hierarchy working in the territory of the visit. Officials of the Constantinople Patriarchate did not coordinate their visit with UOC leaders. " Unfortunately, it is not the first time when bishops of the Constantinople Patriarchate visit Ukraine on Patriarch Bartholomew " s instruction, but they do not inform the Ukrainian Orthodox Church about the visits, " the hierarch said. He stressed that it is impossible to overcome church schism ignoring the only existing in Ukraine recognized Orthodox Church. " Experience shows that opening parallel structures of different local Churches on the same territory threatens both church and civil peace. We hope that in future leaders of the Ukrainian state and representatives of other local Churches will consider the position of hierarchs, clerics and believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, " the metropolitan said. Some places are tolerant and open but some areas of Indonesia are very hard line Muslim. The Orthodox avoid those areas as it is dangerous for them to openly practice missionary activities. Fr. Daniel says that from time to time organized violence occurs against Orthodox Christians and it is hard to predict when and where. The Orthodox community in Indonesia lives in constant fear and discrimination. When Fr. Daniel opened the Orthodox mission in Indonesia there were many problems with the Indonesian police. Since he has joined the ROCOR the situation with the local administration has improved but Fr. Daniel states that “the police are not afraid of anything, they don’t care about anyone or anything”. Whenever his Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion visits his flock in Indonesia Fr. Daniel is required to report to the authorities that he is receiving a foreign guest for religious purposes. The police escort the Metropolitan from the airport and keep a close eye on him. International Aid from Orthodox Christian Churches Orthodox Missionary work in Eastern Indonesia Fr. Daniel travels to U.S.A every month and conducts fundraising activities amongst Orthodox Russians, Greeks, Serbs and Antiochians. The bulk of the financial aid that the Indonesia Orthodox Church receives is from donors in the U.S.A. In 2007 through the efforts of His Grace Bishop Mark of Egorievsk organized a link between the Orthodox Community in Indonesia and the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriachate. As a result of these ties Moscow supplements the wages of the Indonesian clergy but Fr. Daniel says that this is minimal and not enough- “The help is not enough, not all of the priests receive help”. For Orthodox priests in Indonesia it is very difficult to live, being such a strict Islamic country the Orthodox clergy cannot and will not be employed by anybody. Indonesia is the largest Islamic country in the world and the Orthodox clergy are heavily discriminated against. Orthodox Baptism in Papua Projects of the Indonesian Mission The Orthodox Church in Indonesia needs financial help to continue printing Orthodox literature, buying land and building churches. Fr Daniel quotes, “The possibilities for the growth of Orthodoxy in Indonesia are huge, for a small investment into missionary work; the returns are evident through the large number of Indonesians converting to the Orthodox Church.” The Indonesian Orthodox People love the shepherd of their spiritual flock Metropolitan Hilarion Ordinates Fr. He is so fatherly and humble and understanding. He helps us as much as he can in the way of financial needs, but with more help we can bring many more Indonesians to salvation in the Orthodox Church. Ukrainian Nationalists seek to forcibly rename Ukrainian Orthodox Church Moscow, April 12, 2017 Photo: RIA-Novosti      Leader of the nationalist “Freedom” association Oleg Tyagnibok intends to have the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) renamed to the “Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine,” thereby expanding the influence of the self-proclaimed “Kiev Patriarchate” (“KP”), reports RIA-Novosti . The UOC-MP is a self-governing Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, recognized by and in communion with the entirety of the Orthodox world. Ukraine is also home to the “KP” and the “Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church,” which are both self-proclaimed, and outside of communion with the Orthodox Church. In its turn, the UOC-MP has long complained about the harassment of its faithful, and the invasion and takeovers of its temples by representatives of the “KP,” often with the assistance of local authorities. This problem has been noted by international platforms at various levels. “We intend to achieve a renaming of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate to ‘The Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine,’ so that everything would be clear. And it should receive the status of a foreign Church,” declared Tyagnibok. In his words, it would be a “great and noble task” to spread the influence of the “KP” throughout Ukraine. These remarks came in a talk with parishioners of the Holy Ascension Church in the village of Kozelets in the Chernigov region, which was transferred by local authorities to the “KP” eighteen months ago, before which it had been home to a museum. In the assessment of Vasily Anisimov, head of the UOC-MP press service, “Freedom” has no chance of achieving such a change, as it is a political party, and Ukraine officially has separation of Church and state. “The Church does not rename ‘Freedom’ to ‘Extremists,’ ‘Parasites,’ or anything like that. And, of course, political parties cannot rename the Church. It is a gross violation of the constitution,” he said. The UOC-MP has more than 12,000 parishes, while the “KP” has about 1,400 communities. 12 апреля 2017 г. скрыть способы оплаты скрыть способы оплаты Смотри также Комментарии Подпишитесь на рассылку Православие.Ru Рассылка выходит два раза в неделю: Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку

Orthodox Church Denies Seeking to Prosecute Russians for Heresy/Православие.Ru Orthodox Church Denies Seeking to Prosecute Russians for Heresy Moscow, July 14 The Russian Orthodox Church has never pushed to make heresy a criminal offense and described media reports about this as a part of " smear campaign " against the Church, a source from the Church " s press department said on Wednesday. On Tuesday, several online editions reported that the Russian Criminal Code would soon be amended. They quoted Vsevolod Chaplin, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church " s press office, as saying the new article would punish heresy with imprisonment of up to six years. The influence of the Russian Orthodox Church has risen dramatically over the last decade. Opposition journalists and non-Orthodox religious groups criticize the Church for actively implanting its ideology in schools and universities as well as for lobbying government business interests. " Even when the power of the Orthodox Church was at its peak and the Church persecuted dissidents, even in those medieval times, introducing criminal prosecution for heresy was impossible, " the source told RIA Novosti on condition of anonymity. " This report is absolutely untrue, Mr. Chaplin could have never said such things, " the source said, calling the report " part of a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing the image of the Russian Orthodox Church. " The source suggested Chaplin " s words might have been seriously distorted in order to misrepresent the Orthodox Church amid heated debates over the controversial Forbidden Art-2006 exhibition scandal, the source said. Religious groups accused the show " s curators of defacing religious symbols and fueling national hatred. Many of the exhibits featured blasphemous images of Jesus Christ. In one, he had a Mickey Mouse head and in another his head had been replaced by an Order of Lenin medal. The exhibit organizers were fined a total of RIA Novosti, by Tsvetelina Miteva 14 июля 2010 г.
