Thiruvananthapuram, India to celebrate Christmas again on Saturday Thiruvananthapuram, India, January 4, 2012 Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios No marks to you if you thought next Christmas is on December 25, 2012. It’s on Saturday - January 7; in Russia and at Sreekariyam. Come Saturday, the Mar Gregorios Mar Baselios Syrian Orthodox Church, Sreekariyam, will resonate with prayers and hymns celebrating Christ’s birth - Russian style. Russian tourists in Thiruvananthapuram will join compatriots attached to the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) for special prayers and Holy Mass at the church at 11.15 am. Russians celebrate Christmas on January 7 rather than December 25. The Christmas celebrations are being organised jointly by the Honorary Russian Consulate in the city and the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church. ‘’Many countries following the Eastern Orthodox Rite such as Russia and Bulgaria use the Julian calendar, though many countries, including India, have replaced it with the Gregorian calendar. January 7 in the Gregorian calendar corresponds to December 25 in the Julian,’’ said Thiruvananthapuram Bishop of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church, Gabriel Mar Gregorios. Though it’s quite enthusiastic about the upcoming event, the Honorary Russian Consulate isn’t quite sure how many Russians are going to turn up on Saturday. ‘’We planned the event after inquiries came from Moscow as to where tourists can offer prayers on January 7. We’ve informed all the hotels in the city and in tourist hubs like Kovalam and Varkala. A notice has been posted at KKNPP also,’’ Honorary Russian Consul Ratheesh C Nair said.He said that this was the first time formal prayers and other celebrations were planned to mark the Russian Christmas here. Twice before, Russian Orthodox priests had come down for leading the prayers at KKNPP, which is an Indo-Russian project.Ever since the Communist USSR broke up, Orthodox Christianity has been on a revival mode in Russia. Today, Christmas is also a national holiday there. And in recent times, stronger ties have developed between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Syro-Malankara Orthodox Church in Kerala. ‘’The relationship between the two churches dates back centuries. Now it has strengthened,’’ Bishop Gabriel Mar Gregorios said. IBN Live 4 января 2012 г. ... Комментарии Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry press service earlier stated at its public council session that there are " no encroachments based on religion " in Ukraine, calling the information on such discrimination " accusations made by the aggressor. Thousands participate in Palm Sunday procession in Bucharest Moscow, April 12, 2017 Photo: Basilica.ro      Dozens of priests led a procession through the streets of Bucharest on Saturday, April 8, on the eve of Palm Sunday. Thousands of believers joined in the march from Radu Voda Monastery to the Patriarchal Cathedral, in celebration of the Lord’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, reports the Basilica News Agency . Photo: Basilica.ro    The priests and faithful, blessed palms in hand, were greeted on the hill of the patriarchate by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, who blessed an icon of the feast before addressing the faithful gathered with words of spiritual insight and encouragement for the coming journey to the Lord’s Passion and Resurrection. Photo: Basilica.ro      In his homily, His Beatitude explained the palms and willow branches as symbols of faith and of the virtues acquired through an active life in the Church, including fasting, praying, and frequent participation in the Holy Mysteries, and through good deeds. “They are bright flowers of faith that have gathered in our souls for forty days. We offer these flowers of faith and spiritual feats to our Savior as a sign of thanksgiving and as a petition to sanctify our life and to grant us the joy of Holy Pascha... A willow resembles a man who fasted for a long period, who knelt many times, who made many prostrations and who has inner spiritual beauty,” the Romanian primate expounded. Photo: Basilica.ro      Photo: Basilica.ro      The patriarch also noted that the traditional Palm Sunday procession had been banned in Romania for sixty years, from 1948 to 2008. Speaking of its revival, he proclaimed, “Thus, we have demonstrated that we are re-establishing a healthy Christian tradition.” He also noted that, living in a time of political freedom, believers have an even greater responsibility to use that freedom to draw nearer to God. Photo: Basilica.ro      “Here we are, the priests of the whole city of Bucharest, together with the parishioners of the churches in the capital, to confess our love for the Orthodox faith. It is as if we were in Jerusalem at the time of our Savior,” said then 84-year-old Fr. Nicholas Bordaiu at that historic procession. 12 апреля 2017 г. скрыть способы оплаты скрыть способы оплаты Смотри также Комментарии Подпишитесь на рассылку Православие.Ru Рассылка выходит два раза в неделю: Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку

St. Theodore the Archbishop of Rostov Commemorated on November 28 Saint Theodore, Archbishop of Rostov, in the world John, was the son of Stephen (brother of Saint Sergius of Radonezh), who occupied an important post under Prince Andrew of Radonezh. Left a widower, Stephen became a monk, and together with his twelve-year-old son, he went to the monastery to Saint Sergius, who foreseeing the ascetic life of the child John, tonsured him with the name Theodore on the Feast of Saint Theodore the Hair-Shirt Wearer (April 20). After Theodore attained an appropriate age, he was given a blessing to be ordined to the priesthood. With the blessing of Saint Sergius, Saint Theodore built a church in honor of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos and founded a monastery on the banks of the River Moskva, at the place called Simonovo. Soon the monastery began to attract a throng of people. Saint Theodore built a cell five versts from the Moscow Kremlin, and pursued new ascetical labors, and here disciples gathered around him. Saint Sergius, visiting this place, blessed the founding of a monastery, and Metropolitan Alexis blessed the construction of a church in the name of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos at Novoe Simonovo, which also had its foundations laid in 1379. The old Simonov monastery remained the burial place of monks. Because of his virtuous life and strict asceticism, Saint Theodore became known in Moscow. The Metropolitan Saint Alexis elevated him to the rank of igumen, and Great Prince Demetrius of the Don chose him as his father confessor. Saint Theodore journeyed to Constantinople several times on church matters for the Russian Metropolitan. On his first journey in 1384, Patriarch Nilus made him an archimandrite. The Simonov monastery was put directly under the Patriarch, thus became stavropegial. In 1387, he was consecrated archbishop and occupied the See of Rostov. Being the igumen, and then the archimandrite of the Simonov monastery, and despite being occupied with churchly matters, Saint Theodore stalwartly guided those in the monastic life and counted many great and famous ascetics among his disciples. Saints Cyril (June 9) and Therapon (May 27), the future founders of two famous White Lake monasteries, were tonsured at the Simonov monastery. Saint Theodore occupied himself with iconography, and he adorned with icons of his own painting both the Simonov monastery, and many Moscow churches. At Rostov, Archbishop Theodore founded the Nativity of the Virgin monastery. The blessed death of the saint occurred on November 28, 1394. His relics are in the Rostov Dormition cathedral. Saint Theodore is also commemorated on May 23. The Orthodox Church in America 7 декабря 2016 г. Wooden Churches in the Russian North British architectural photographer Richard Davies is exhibiting a series of stunningly beautiful images of endangered, centuries-old Wooden Churches in the Russian North at the Museum of Finnish Architecture from March to May. Here’s a selection of the photographs that will be on display. If you can’t make it to Helsinki, be sure to stop by his website for more. Kosmozero, Karelia region, Church of St Alexander Svirsky (1769) Turchasovo, Arkhangel region, Church of the Transfiguration (1781) From the exhibition catalogue: “Old postcards made the English photographer Richard Davies travel to northern Russia in 2002 to find out what was left of the wooden churches depicted in the cards. The churches had been photographed by the Russian artist Ivan Bilibin in 1902–04, and already then the photographer was worried about their condition. Davies followed Bilibin’s footsteps on several travels in successive years. Tulgas, Arkhangel region, Church of St Blaise (18th C) Polya, Karelia region, Church of the Prophet Elijah (18th C) Many churches had been lost and many were threatened by destruction. Still, much was left to celebrate. The integrity between the landscape and the architecture was as striking as before, the simple log cabin construction with extravagant decorations was just as startling, and even in decay these churches had a spiritual presence commanding respect. With his pictures Davies wishes to help preserve this extraordinary cultural heritage.” Rakuly, Arkhangel region, Church of the Resurrection (1766) Podporozhye, Arkhangel region, Church of St Vladimir (1757) “Many churches have been saved by dedicated specialists and enthusiasts, whose untiring work goes on. We hope that the photographs in this exhibition will help raise public awareness of the plight of these wonderful buildings and that more restoration projects will attract the funding they deserve. Imzha, Arkhangel region, Church of the Virgin Hodigitria (1763) Izma, Arkhangel region, Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour (1679) During our travels, the story of the hardships of the last century has been unavoidably felt – a story of Revolution, War, Communism and severe Northern winters. The photographs also tell of the lives of resilient people who have lived through extreme times in extreme places – a story of the Russian North.” Matilda Moreton, Richard Davies London August 2007 Arkinet 18 февраля 2011 г. ... A second expansion dates back to the mid 19th century, during Bulgaria’s National Revival period, when residents of the then village of Boyana funded further construction. After Bulgaria’s National Liberation from the Ottoman Empire in 1878, local residents wanted to tear down the Boyana Churchin order to build a bigger one in its place but was saved by Bulgaria’s Tsaritsa-Consort Eleonore (1860-1917), the second wife of Bulgarian Tsar Ferdinand (r. 1887-1918). The unique murals of the Boyana Church also date back to different periods. The oldest layer is from the 11th-12th century, while the 240 most valuable mural depictions from the second layer date back to 1259 AD. There are also murals from the 14th century, the 16th-17th century, and 1882. The world famous murals from 1259 AD, which have been described by many scholars as Early Renaissnace or precursors of Renaissance Art, are the work of the unknown Boyana Master and his disciples who are believed to have been representatives of the Tarnovo Art School in the Second Bulgarian Empire(1185-1396 AD). They have sometimes been described as belonging to the tradition of the so called Byzantine Palaiologos (Palaeologus or Palaeologue) Renaissence. In addition to the many biblical scenes, themurals at the Boyana Church feature depictions of Sebastokrator Kaloyan and Sebastokratoritsa Desislava as donors, as well as of Bulgarian Tsar Konstantin Asen Tih (r. 1257-1277 AD) and his wife, Tsaritrsa Irina. Two other small churches preserved in today’s Sofia are also attributed to thedonorship of Sebastokrator Kaloyan. The frescoes of the Boyana Church were restored several times between 1912 and 2006. The Boyana Church was first opened for visitors as a museum in 1977. Archaeology in Bulgaria 13 января 2016 г. Протоиерей Андрей Ткачев В интереснейшей и очень древней книге с непривычным названием «Лавсаик» есть одна история. (Вообще там множество историй, одна другой слаще и удивительней). Remembrance service for Prince Dimitri Romanov held at Russian church in Copenhagen      A remembrance service for Prince Dimitri Romanov, the oldest relative of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, was held on Tuesday at Saint Alexander Nevsky Church in Danish capital Copenhagen. The 90-year-old prince was taken to a hospital in Denmark last week suffering from serious health problems. He died on the evening of December 31. Numerous representatives of the Russian diaspora, as well as Danish officials came to the church to bid final farewell to the late prince. The requiem service was led by the head priest of the church, Father Sergius. Russian Ambassador to Denmark Mikhail Vanin read out a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin. " The President of the Romanov Family Association, he maintained indissoluble spiritual ties with his Homeland throughout his life. He made a huge contribution to spreading abroad knowledge about our country’s history and culture, about the heritage and traditions of the Russian Imperial House, " the message said about Prince Dimitri Romanov. " Throughout all the recent years, the thoughts and deeds of Dimitri Romanovich were with Russia, " his widow Princess Theodora said. Dimitri Romanov was born on May 17, 1926, in Cap d " Antibes, France, where his parents lived in emigration. He was a direct descendant of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, as his father, Roman Petrovich Romanov, was the Emperor’s second cousin and godson. I walked several times over every inch of space, and as I was near one of the columns, I felt a slab moving under the carpet. I shuddered at the thought that maybe I stepped over one of the Byzantine Emperors’ graves. A beautiful Corinthian capital, probably older than the church itself      After such destruction and desolation, the place where once was the sanctuary treasures now only one preserved fresco. The fresco depicts Empress Theodora kneeling with her arms open and praying to the Mother of God, Who has her right hand reaching towards the Empress and her left hand holding Christ the Savior. Christian fresco from the former sanctuary      Although initially I was scandalized to see the rotunda became a bazaar, nevertheless I must appreciate the work of Mr. Mustapha, the archaeologist who, back in 1987, made many efforts to preserve the monument. Certainly, most of us will be sad to see the church transformed into a mosque, but that may be the only reason for this building to be still standing. I tremble when I imagine the monastery 100 years ago – a garbage dump, buried under earth and rocks…      Just before I leave Vlaga, I turned around to catch a final glimpse of Myrelaion Monastery. There are many who claim this is an architectural copy of legendary Nea Ekklesia – it is undoubtedly one of few remaining examples of Macedonian Dynasty’s ecclesiastical architecture. This architectural style gained a new period of flourishing only after the fall of Constantinople and later became the constructive template par excellence of the Byzantine churches. Therefore, I visited one of the original buildings of this architectural style – and, leaving aside certain disappointments and dilemmas, I said a deeply moved farewell to Vlaga neighborhood.
