Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations (DECR) and CMI rector, welcomed those present and reminded the audience that earlier the CMI held two patristic conferences devoted to the legacy of St. Isaac the Syrian and St. Simeon the New Theologian. In his paper on ‘The Teaching of St. John Cassian on the Eucharist and Communion’, Metropolitan Hilarion spoke about the life of the saint and his basic treatises. The first section of the conference on ‘The Biography and Works of St. John Cassian’ was chaired by the Revd Prof. Edward Farrugia, Pontifical Oriental Institute. The meeting was opened with a paper read by Prof. Jonut-Alexandru Tudorie, University of Bucharest, who spoke about St. John Cassian’s childhood in Schythia Minor and shared various points of view concerning the saint’s birthplace. D. Zaitsev of the Orthodox Encyclopedia church research center dealt with the theme ‘Chronology of St. John Cassian’s Last Days of Life and the Dating of His Works’. Archimandrite Irenaeus (Steenberg), dean of the Ss Cyril and Athanasius of Alexandria Institute of Orthodox Studies (USA), presented a paper on ‘A Monk and a Friend: Friendship and Monastic Ideal in St. John Cassian’s Works and in Orthodoxy’, which provoked a lively discussion. In conclusion of the first section of the conference, His Eminence Hilarion thanked all those present, saying, ‘I hope that the papers presented here will enrich the academic knowledge and help researchers discover new things in the works of St. John Cassian the Roman’. The conference on St. John the Cassin will last till November 21. The forum is attended by theologians from Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, USA and Russia. Monasticism is LIVED not studied. If you want to know about it - go and live the life. Institutionalising, academicising (!) the Church is increasingly intellectualising the " religion " . We don " t need a " religion " we should never have allowed Christianity to be turned into a religion. It is The Way - that is what Christ taught - not a religion. And monasticism is a further part of that Way. Hieromonk Michael Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку

Photo exhibition dedicated to 120th anniversary of Russian church in Jaffa opens in Tel Aviv Tel Aviv, January 17, 2014 On January 15, in the Russian cultural center, a photo exhibition, dedicated to the 120th anniversary of consecration of the Church of Holy Apostle Peter and Saint Tabitha was opened at the dependency of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Abu-Kabir in Jaffa - a south suburb of Tel Aviv. In the past, Russian pilgrims would arrive at the Holy Land through the Jaffa seaport. On January 29, 1896, the church was consecrated by Patriarch Gerasimus of Jerusalem in honor of Holy Apostle Peter, who has been especially venerated in Jaffa. Representatives of the Russian embassy in Israel and of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, church parishioners, Israeli residents and guests from Moscow were present at the opening of the exhibition. The organizers of the exhibition are the priest in charge of the dependency of St. Tabitha in Jaffa Archpriest Igor Pchelintsev, and director of the cultural centre Natalia Yakimchuk. The exposition includes historical and modern photographs that relate the history of the dependency, building and beautification of the church on the territory of the parcel of land in Jaffa, where there was the tomb of Tabitha, who had been raised from the dead by Apostle Peter (Acts 9:36). This parcel of land was acquired in 1868 by head of the mission, Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin, 1865–1894). Modern photographs of the Russian dependency and church interior, made by the professional photographer Reuven Brenner, are exhibited. Also some rare ancient photographs can be seen at the exhibition, which depict Grand Dukes Sergei and Paul Alexandrovich as well as Holy Grand Duchess Elisabeth Feodorovna, who were present in 1888 during the laying of the foundation stone of the future church, together with portraits of Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin) and other figures, associated with the history of the Russian church in Jaffa. Also photographs showing stages of construction of the buildings of the church and the house for pilgrims on the territory of the dependency, are displayed. It was founded so that pilgrims, on their arrival to Jaffa and making their first steps on the Holy Land, might rest, restore their strength, pray and go further to the Holy City of Jerusalem. The exhibition in Tel Aviv also contains color photographs, which were made at the dependency over last 20 years. This collection includes photographs that tell of the visit in 1997 of His Holiness Patriarch Alexei II of Moscow and All Russia, about gilding of bells and the present-day state of the church and the dependency. At present the Russian dependency in Jaffa is considered to be one of the most beautiful places of Tel Aviv. 22 января 2014 г. Смотри также Мы в соцсетях Подпишитесь на нашу рассылку

Archive An exhibition of Orthodox icons opens in Mar del Plata 20 July 2021 year 19:00 With a blessing of Bishop Leonid of Argentina and South America, an exhibition of Orthodox icons has been arranged at the Gallegas center through the efforts of the Parish of the Holy Passion Bearers in Mar del Plata, Argentine. The grand opening was attended by Bishop Leonid of Argentine and South America, Bishop John of Caracas and South America, ROCOR; Ms. Maria Florencia Ranellucci, director general for international relations between communities and religions in Mar del Plata; Yu. N. Kuznetsov, Russian Federation honorary consul in Mar del Plata, Nikochea, Provinces of Chubut, Rio Negro and La Pampa; representatives of the Naval Prefecture, Argentinian air, naval and land forces, and public figures in Mar del Plata. Mr. Yu. N. Kuznetsov and Ms. Ranellucci greeted the participants in the event. In his address, Bishop Leonid noted in particular, “The attitude towards icons was not always the same in various periods of history. Thus, in 730, Emperor Leo III the Isaurian prohibited the veneration of icons. The iconoclasm resulted in the destruction of thousands of icons as well as mosaics, frescoes, statues of saints and decorated icon-screens in many churches. The clergy, monastics and ordinary people were persecuted for the veneration of icons, were thrown into prisons, tortured and even killed. “The 787 Ecumenical Council approved he doctrine of the veneration of icons. After that, all the convicts for the veneration of icons were rehabilitated and released from prisons. But, unfortunately, iconoclasm raged for some more decades gradually dying down. “I am very glad that now Christians have an opportunity to pray at sacred icons without obstruction, to kiss them and place them at home. The speeches were followed by the performance of popular Russian romances. The event was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Exhibition on Christianization of Europe in middle ages opens in Germany Paderborn, August 2, 2013 The exhibition " Credo: Christianization of Europe in middle ages " has opened in the Paderborn Diocesan museum in Germany, reports Sedmitza.ru . The Christianization of Europe happened not as a linear process but as a dynamic phenomenon that went in different ways in different regions of Europe. The exposition describes achievements and failures of missionaries, facts on missionary activities associated with the military expansion and other coercive actions. The exhibition " s organizers hope that those who observe the exhibition will think about the meaning of Christianity today and its role in the process of forming of national states. About 800 exhibits from around 230 museums, libraries and private collections of various European countries--from Iceland and Italy to the Ukraine as well as the USA have been collected for the exhibition. Among the most valuable objects are the text of St. Paul " s Epistle to Romans of early medieval period (kept at the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin) and also " The Petersburg Gospel " from the Russian National Library, which is rarely exhibited. A well-known " Epos of Charlemagne " that describes the meeting of the king of Franks with Pope Leo III in 799 in Paderborn (kept at the Central Zurich Library) will also be on exhibition as well. Moreover, the organizers have brought with them artwork from the Art History Museum in Vienna, San Marco in Venice, and also treasures from the National museum of the Ukraine and the Marienburg castle of Poland that were not exhibited in Europe before. They include the Byzantine decorations and elements of decor from the former residence of the Great Master of the Teutonic Order. A separate part of the exhibition tells of recent archeological finds, shedding new light on the history of the spread of Christianity in Europe. Specifically, the exposition includes finds from the burial of an Anglo-Saxon prince, the so called " Prince of Prittlewell " (ca. 700) that was discovered in 2003. Now restored and kept at the Southend-on-Sea museum (Essex), the burial vault was first reconstructed outside Great Britain. The exhibition is held under patronage of the president of Germany Joachim Gauck and is organized jointly with the Paderborn administration, the Archbishopric of Paderborn and the Regional association of Westhalia-Lippe. This is the third successful joint national exhibition project after the exhibitions, " The Carolingian Culture and Arts " and " Canossa that Shook the World " . 6 августа 2013 г. ... Tweet Нравится Christian Family from Syria Being Held in Detention Camp in U.S. Source: ChristianHeadlines.com December 18, 2015      A Christian family who left Syria for the U.S. has been in a detention camp for more than a month. According to Christian Today, Samer and his family left Syria to come to Texas just days after the Paris attacks. The family was taken to an immigration center near San Antonio. Samer has a wife and two sons, ages 2 and 5. " My very small children are in prison, " Samer told reporters. " I had no idea that the political climate was so against Syrian refugees. If I had known that it was so terrible here I wouldn " t have brought my family. " Christian Today reports that the family has undergone a background check but are not security threats. “They have followed every rule, completed every step in the process that results in asylum seekers being released to live with their families and told to report to court, but they are being treated differently ... the saddest thing about these cases is that these people fled from a government that singled them out because of who they were – Christians,” said Jonathan Ryan, their attorney. “They came to our country seeking protection only to find that we are doing the same thing because of their national origin.” The debate over refugee immigration into the U.S. has continued to grow. About half of the governors in the U.S. have said they oppose settling Syrian refugees in their states. U.S. evangelical leaders released a statement this week saying that “voices of fear” cannot dictate immigration policy. " Moments like these are when Christians cannot remain silent and still. In light of this crisis, we commit ourselves and our churches to actively care for and minister to global refugees with mercy and compassion, both here and abroad, based on God " s compelling concern for all people in need and especially refugees.
