| Русский – для меня иностранный язык, а видеть свой труд на чужом языке – это хорошее напоминание, что «наш» труд, на который мы привычно распространяем права обладания, на самом деле нам не принадлежит. Этот опыт отчуждения, напоминающий явления вроде эмиграции, плена или изгнания, вновь возвращает нас к двойственности языка. Мы ли говорим нашим языком, или язык говорит нами? К этим кратким комментариям мне хочется добавить еще одно замечание личного характера: сказанное только что о языке можно приложить и к нашим именам – ведь каждый из нас зовется своим именем, но также можно сказать, что каждый из нас призван к своему имени. В конечном счете, это даже трудно назвать «своим» именем, ведь многие из нас названы в честь других людей. Имя, данное мне родителями, – Джон (Яннис) – принадлежало святому, который родился в Киеве, воевал в Русско-Турецкой войне 1710 г., был взят в плен и прожил остаток своих дней в чужой земле и чужой языковой среде. Даже теперь, через много лет после смерти, его нетленное тело покоится на чужом для него, но родном для меня острове Эвбея, где он широко известен как св. Иоанн Русский.
